00:30One incompletion, has two touchdown passes in the first half.
00:33He has continued the hot streak that he has been on so far,
00:36especially when it comes to working the ball deep down the field.
00:39Yeah, and for Cam Ward, I thought he had a very nice first half as well.
00:42You see the growth in maturity and understanding sometimes a play just isn't there.
00:46Don't force it and try and make something happen and have something worse take place.
00:50Also, I think in the second half, give him more shots downfield.
00:54Find ways to let him push the ball downfield with that big arm of his.
01:00Slides, kickoff, lands in the landing zone and fielded on a hop by Efton Chisholm.
01:06And Chisholm with a flag down is brought down at the 25-yard line.
01:15Three penalties called in the first half, all three on Tennessee.
01:18During the return, illegal block in the back, receiving team number 91.
01:27The 10-yard penalty, first down.
01:28First penalty today against New England and Elijah Ponder.
01:32And a moment ago, A.J. with Mike Grable.
01:33The season high.
01:39Drake May was surgical in the two-minute.
01:41What did you like about your balance in that first half?
01:44Well, I mean, I think that's what we've been searching for.
01:47I give our guys a lot of credit offensively.
01:49You know, we got to affect them a little bit more throwing the football on first and second down.
01:53Like we did there after the first couple drives.
01:56But, you know, offensively, we were able to, you know, make some personnel groups and be able to run the football.
02:01But then also, we hit a couple X plays.
02:03Thank you, Coach.
02:04From Andre Stevenson, stopped for a two-yard gain on first down by Cedric Gray as we open up the second half.
02:13Take a look at some of the halftime numbers in this game.
02:15The Patriots with 118 yards rushing.
02:20Their season high this year, 122 at Miami.
02:23So, looking to continue that pattern here in the second half.
02:27Remember when Mike Grable says X plays, he's talking about explosive plays.
02:31Those 15- to 20-yard variety plays downfield.
02:34Those big shots like the touchdown pass to Booty.
02:37Mack Hollins was trying to get Drake May to not take the snap.
02:41And that's why there's flags down.
02:43Because Hollins was moving on the play.
02:47Drake May did not see Mack Hollins doing that.
02:50And took the snap anyway.
03:01Illegal shift.
03:09Offense.
03:10Number 13-38.
03:11We're both moving at the snap.
03:13It's a five-yard penalty.
03:15Re-plicking down.
03:15So, the Patriots, the most penalized team in the NFL with zero penalties in the first half.
03:21Already two here in the second half.
03:23You see Hollins was saying, don't take the snap.
03:26They're both moving.
03:29And Tennessee has declined the penalty, which makes it third down and eight.
03:34They're looking at this is a situation for him to start this half off and get off of the football field.
03:42A mission to see whether Denard Wilson, a defensive coordinator, if he decides to bring pressure here
03:46and force Drake May to get the ball out before those guys can get to the sticks.
03:51Brought Jalen Harrell in.
03:52A good pass rusher.
03:53Number 92 for the edge.
03:55Good protection for May.
03:57Steps up and he's got a first down.
04:00Stephon takes across the 35 and up to the 38-yard line.
04:05A gain of 24 for Diggs.
04:08He had too much time to make a decision.
04:10Like, if you're going to have this play, and as you pointed out, Jason, you're taking that shot third and eight.
04:15Let's find a way to get off the field.
04:17Look at this offensive line and look at the protection for Drake May to do exactly what you've described him doing in this game.
04:22The ability to read, step up, find his target, and put the ball on it.
04:32Nine straight completions for Drake May.
04:37Play action.
04:38May over the middle.
04:39There's Hollins into Tennessee territory.
04:42Mack Hollins with a big play.
04:45He goes for 27, and the Patriots moving right down the field.
04:49Great job right here on the play action.
04:53You guys saw all of the space where Mack Hollins catches that ball in the middle of the field.
04:58That's all because of this run fake right here to Stephenson.
05:00All of these guys come flying up into the line of scrimmage to stop the run, and that opens it up.
05:06The play action.
05:07They do it about 30% of their drop back passes, and it was wide open there for Mack Hollins.
05:12The run fake works because Stephenson's already run for 74 yards today.
05:18Play action again.
05:20May to the outside.
05:22He's going to keep it himself.
05:24And he's trapped down by Roger McCreary.
05:26And May hit the turf hard.
05:34And will jog back to the huddle.
05:36Take another look.
05:38Watch on this tackle as he gets to the outside.
05:40Does a really good job of stepping up in the pocket.
05:43They were trying to get Mack Hollins down the field.
05:45McCreary's going to make this tackle.
05:47But watch Drake May's helmet as he goes to the back, and it slams into the turf right there.
05:52And he was a little slow to get up after it.
05:56Oftentimes when you see a play like that, there will be a buzz down from the doctors up top who are watching.
06:04But in this case, when they saw May get up and get back to the huddle, they felt like he was steady.
06:08Yep, there he goes now.
06:09Good call.
06:10Yep, there you go.
06:11He's going off.
06:12And also behind the play, LeJarius Sneed is being looked at by the Tennessee training staff.
06:18And Sneed is now just up and will slowly walk off.
06:25And there goes May to be examined.
06:29They're putting the blue medical tent up on the New England sideline.
06:31And Joshua Dobbs, who spent 2022 here in Tennessee, will come in as we take another look at the tackle by McCreary
06:40and how hard May's head hit the turf.
06:43And with Sneed going out as well, if May doesn't go off the field, I think Josh McDaniels finds Sneed's replacement
06:52and runs something at him right now.
06:54But with him off the field and May off the field, here comes Dobbs into the ballgame.
06:59I expect him to lean on Ramondre Stevenson in this situation.
07:02So not only did Joshua Dobbs spend a year here with the Tennessee Titans, but he played collegiately at Tennessee.
07:11Charles' alma mater.
07:13Had a big game last night, didn't he?
07:15Oh, that's how we're going to do it.
07:18Oh, that would hurt.
07:18That would hurt.
07:19Just ask him how Rutgers did, Charles.
07:21That would hurt.
07:22That would hurt.
07:23Oregon just scored again.
07:24Oh, man.
07:25But anyway, Dobbs at Tennessee, he was so smart that he was able to create his own curriculum for graduation.
07:33They'd never had aeronautical engineering before, and Josh Dobbs created it.
07:38Stevenson on second and four, and he does not get back to the line of scrimmage.
07:44It'll be third down with May still in the blue medical tent.
07:48And now we're being told that Jeffrey Simmons has been officially ruled out for the rest of the game with the hamstring injury.
07:58So Simmons out, May in the 10th, and Dobbs in the Patriots looking at third down and four.
08:03And this would be interesting to see what Josh McDaniels and Mike Grable are thinking.
08:10Are there two plays here to pick up the first down with Josh Dobbs on the field that maybe you don't throw it?
08:15And maybe you end up running it and possibly trying to go two times to get it?
08:23Dobbs to the air.
08:25Eludes the sack, keeps it alive, and throws for a first down.
08:29What a play by Josh Dobbs.
08:31Douglas reels it in for a gain of 13.
08:35Guys, at the end of the game last week, we saw Justin Herbert shake off a tackler
08:39and hit Ladd McConkie for the biggest play of the game to set up the game-winning field goal.
08:43Josh Dobbs does this in the third quarter, but it's a similar play.
08:47Shaking off a tackler, it looks like he's got him in the pocket.
08:51Cedric Gray, the linebacker, is having an exceptional season.
08:54But he shrugs him off and puts it right on him.
08:56It was a dart to Demario Douglas for a big first down for New England.
09:01Dobbs' first completion as a Patriot.
09:04Just the second game he's appeared in.
09:06He had mop-up duty in the route against Carolina.
09:08As Stevenson has stood up by James Lynch.
09:13And Drake May out of the tent.
09:15Back on the field to a huge ovation from the Patriots fans here in Nashville.
09:22A lot of Patriots fans here.
09:23As you saw Drake May coming out of the tent.
09:26This place erupted.
09:28But a lot of credit to Joshua Dobbs.
09:29Comes in the game.
09:31And Denar Wilson, the Titans defensive coordinator, dials up.
09:34A perfect pressure.
09:35Gets a guy unblocked to the quarterback.
09:37And he shrugs him off and comes up with a big first down.
09:41And when you get that out of your backup quarterback in a short sample to keep a drive like that alive,
09:46that's what you're looking for as a head coach.
09:49May to the air.
09:50Locates Stevenson.
09:52And Stevenson shoved out at the 15-yard line.
09:54That'll bring up third down.
09:56Darryl Baker on the tackle for Tennessee.
09:59Baker in the game.
10:01Once Lajarius Sneed exited with the trainers.
10:03And he gets his opportunity to come in and try to perform and stop this offense in the red zone.
10:09Baker's a former starter for them out on the corner.
10:12Lost his job when Jalen Armour Davis got to town.
10:15But he's a guy that they do like.
10:17And they just say he just needs to play with more confidence.
10:19He has good ability.
10:22New England three for five on third down today.
10:25May to Diggs.
10:31What a catch by Diggs.
10:33He's going to be short of a first down.
10:35Great hands by Stephon Diggs.
10:38Baker there for the tackle.
10:41And Mike Braybill is keeping his offense on the field.
10:44He's always been an aggressive guy when it comes to these fourth down situations.
10:48He trusts that they can go out there and execute it.
10:51And I agree with him.
10:52If I'm Braybill, momentum coming in this second half, I want to go ahead and punch this one in the end zone.
10:57That tells you how much he trusts his second-year quarterback.
11:00New England is eight for ten on fourth down this year.
11:04That's how empty said this could be a quarterback run play here.
11:07May threw it behind Douglas, who made the catch.
11:17What a catch by DeMario Douglas, and it's good for a New England first down.
11:23That was unbelievable by DeMario.
11:26Pop Douglas reaches back with the right hand.
11:30That is going to be a still shot that he hangs up in his room one day, sliding on the ground, and just reaching back and snagging that one.
11:38Unbelievable catch by Pop Douglas.
11:40The first off-target throw of the day for May, and Douglas turns it into a key first down.
11:47First and goal for New England.
11:50Ramondre Stevenson walks it in for a touchdown.
11:53Fascinating drive by the Patriots.
11:58You saw a little bit of everything there, and New England adds to its lead.
12:03The key players on the drive to me, Josh Dobbs, with the third down play.
12:07Yes, yes.
12:08And then Pop Douglas on the fourth down, picking it up.
12:11Not their superstars, not necessarily the guys you think of that you're going to get the ball to
12:16when you start dialing things up all the time,
12:18but they're the ones who kept the drive alive to let Ramondre Stevenson finish things off.
12:24Mike Rabel's reaction.
12:27New England trying to win its fourth consecutive game.
12:32As Boragallis comes out for the extra point, and it is good.
12:36So, Drake May feeling okay.
12:42Josh Dobbs getting the job done, and Ramondre Stevenson having his best day of the year.
12:4979 yards rushing.
12:51Drake May has thrown 13 straight completions.
12:55His career high, 16 last year here in Nashville against the Titans,
13:00and now the Patriots with a touchdown on each of their last three drives.
13:04They go up 24-13 on Tennessee.
13:07I don't think he had a completion as sweet as the one that left his hand,
13:11and he was like, oh, no.
13:13He knew it was off target, and Pop Douglas turned it into something.
13:17DK will take this one out of his own end zone.
13:20Fakes the toss and stopped.
13:24And that was Kristen Ellis making the play on special teams.
13:29Woo!
13:30Ellis flying around today.
13:35Hey, Saturday, 3.30 Eastern.
13:37It's another big-time college football matchup
13:39as the Golden Gophers travel to Iowa to face the Hawkeyes.
13:44College football today kicks off our coverage beginning at 2.30
13:47right here on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
13:51Minnesota won Friday night against number 25, Nebraska,
13:55and Iowa won by one against Penn State last night.
13:59Nice matchup.
14:01I was on Broadway.
14:02I didn't get to check those out.
14:04They weren't flashing the scores down there.
14:06Ward lost the football, scooped up by Chason, and it's a touchdown!
14:12There is a flag down, but Calavon Chason in the end zone with the football.
14:19That's been a big problem for Cam Ward.
14:21Let's hear what the call is.
14:24Holding.
14:26Offense.
14:27Number 17.
14:28That's going to be declined.
14:29There's open flag.
14:30It's a touchdown.
14:31Calavon Chason with the touchdown.
14:33And for Cam Ward, that's his fifth lost fumble of the year.
14:40Listen, you see all the ability in the world from Cam Ward,
14:44but he's had a turnover in every single one of the Titans games.
14:49He has to value the football more.
14:52You cannot have plays like this happen at the quarterback position
14:56because you don't allow your football team to have a chance
14:59when you're just losing the ball in a situation like that
15:02and giving up six points.
15:04And a great example of what Mike Vrabel told our teammate A.J. Ross at the half.
15:09We need more pressure on Cam Ward on first and second downs.
15:12Got right to him there with Chason right in his face
15:15before the ball left his hand.
15:17First NFL touchdown for Calavon Chason.
15:19The extra point by Boragales is good.
15:22And the Patriots have scored two touchdowns in the last 11 seconds.
15:29Cam Ward, another turnover.
15:33And Chason makes him pay.
15:39A look at bold moves presented by Wingstop.
15:43Austin Hooper, a great touchdown catch in the first half of the Patriots.
15:47Yes, Chason Booty did the same.
15:49Ramondre Stevenson, touchdown here in the third quarter.
15:53And then a moment ago, it was Cam Ward fumbling
15:56and Calavon Chason taking it in for a touchdown.
16:0231-13 in favor of the Patriots.
16:06How about Chason?
16:07Former first-round pick with the Jacksonville Jaguars 2020.
16:11Really didn't realize his potential there.
16:13But last year with the Las Vegas Raiders,
16:15really started to make a move.
16:16Five and a half sacks.
16:18I think he's really finding his niche here with the Patriots.
16:21Jason, would you say good, rotational type of a defensive player?
16:25Edge rusher?
16:26Yep.
16:26I think he's playing his best football of his career right now.
16:28Absolutely.
16:34Boragales to kick it off again.
16:37And D.K. backtracking.
16:39And he will take a knee.
16:41Let's go back to New York.
16:43Adam Schein has an NFL Today update.
16:46Oh, I do, Andrew.
16:47First pass out of halftime for Keele Tonga by Loa.
16:51And it's picked.
16:52It's a pick six.
16:53Tyson Campbell.
16:55It's all Cleveland.
16:57Ugly today for Miami.
16:5924-6.
17:00Back to you.
17:01Wow.
17:03Dolphins in trouble.
17:06Patriots won in Miami back in week two.
17:09Tyson Campbell getting more comfortable, what, a second week in Cleveland?
17:12Yep.
17:13After the big trade?
17:14That'll help you get acclimated.
17:17Fifth loss fumble for Cam Ward.
17:19Let's see how he responds here on this next drive.
17:21Hands off to Pollard on first down.
17:23And Tabai is there for the tackle.
17:26And you can see this Ward fumble really took the air out of the Titans fans here at Nissan Stadium.
17:38And so much promise and potential, incredible arm talent, but the turnovers continue to be a huge problem.
17:45Now nine turnovers on the year for Ward.
17:48And he's the one who said it this week.
17:55Ball security is job security.
17:56I have to be better.
18:00Ward over the middle.
18:01Power takes a big hit.
18:03That was Robert Spillane on the tackle as we check in with A.J.
18:07She's got an injury update.
18:09Yeah, Andrew, some unfortunate news for the Titans.
18:12Secondary corner, Legereus Sneed, I'm being told, has a quad injury.
18:15And his return to this one is questionable, guys.
18:18A.J., the quad was what limited Sneed to just five games a year ago.
18:23So that's not a good sign for Legereus Sneed.
18:29Let's go get it, let's go get it, let's go get it, let's go get it.
18:33On third and one.
18:36Play action, Ward in trouble, and he is buried.
18:40And that's Milton Williams with the sack.
18:47Worth every penny of that $104 million deal,
18:52he's signed in the offseason.
18:55You're absolutely right about that, Andrew.
18:57You're going to see Milton Williams right on the inside right here.
19:00And they're trying to go play action.
19:02They're trying to fool him with the run and then be able to boot out.
19:05But he beats Latham on the inside, keeps getting up the field,
19:09and Cam Ward doesn't even have a chance on that one.
19:11Third and short like that, even if you're going play fake,
19:14things have to develop a lot quicker.
19:16Three and a half sacks on the year now for Williams
19:18as Jones makes a nice sliding catch at the 38-yard line
19:23after just a 31-yard punt by Johnny Hecker.
19:27All pats here on CBS.
19:29On an NFL on CBS doubleheader with the early schedule headlined
19:34by Caleb Williams and the Bears meeting the Ravens.
19:37And then Dak and the Cowboys go on the road against Bo Nix and the Broncos.
19:41It all begins at noon Eastern with the NFL today.
19:44You can always count on Sundays with the NFL on CBS
19:47and streaming on Paramount+.
19:51Patriots will be back home next week to host the Cleveland Browns
19:59while the Titans are on the road to take on the Colts.
20:025.21 to go in the third quarter here.
20:05Here is Stevenson who's had a big day.
20:07Not this time.
20:08He's pushed back by Jalen Harrell.
20:10But the Patriots' offense has amassed 310 yards today.
20:17And they've done it on the ground and in the air.
20:19They started this game off on the first drive
20:22of just a ton of Ramondre Stevenson.
20:25Once they got that going,
20:26Drake May found some of his favorite targets deep down the field.
20:30That was Booney.
20:30And then this is Ramondre Stevenson running it in.
20:33This offense has been hitting on all cylinders this afternoon.
20:37A season high in rush yards for New England with 128.
20:46May ducks out of the pocket.
20:49He does a good job to turn nothing into something.
20:53We've seen that a number of times today for Drake May.
20:55Three-yard gain instead of what could have been a five-yard loss.
20:59Remember, there are two rookies over there on the left side.
21:01Rookie guard number 58, Jared Wilson,
21:04who played centers in his career at the University of Georgia.
21:08And, in fact, was simply a one-year starter
21:10because he's behind Cedric Van Praan Granger,
21:13who had played all those years there.
21:14And then on the left side there,
21:16the first-round pick this year,
21:17number four overall is Will Campbell, number 66.
21:20And Drake May has a lot of trust in those two youngsters
21:22early in their run.
21:24On third and seven, May.
21:32Pressure coming, and he is sacked.
21:35Brought down by Draymond Jones.
21:41Back-to-back games with a sack for Jones,
21:44and the Patriots will punt.
21:47I just talked about that left side,
21:49but Jones, 45 in blue,
21:51works a game with Cedric Gray, number 33,
21:53where Gray goes in first
21:55and essentially blocks for Draymond Jones
21:57to come off of his back side
21:59and get to the quarterback.
22:03So, Bear Ringer will punt for the second time today
22:06with D.J. back deep.
22:08And a flag.
22:14Paul Stark, offense,
22:17number 47, five-yard penalty,
22:19still fourth down.
22:20And they called that on the long snapper, Julian Ashby.
22:25They're not messing around with guys
22:26and moving the ball at the center position today, are they?
22:30We'll not have that.
22:34How about the Patriots?
22:36Draft picks at long snapper, punter, and kicker.
22:39Not something you get every day.
22:41The Patriots have done it multiple times in their tenure.
22:45Pressure coming, and Bear Ringer just gets it off.
22:48D.K. calls for a fair catch at the 23-yard line.
22:52With 3.05 to go in the third quarter,
22:54Patriots 31, Titans 13 on C.
22:59Mike Vrabel, six years as the Tennessee head coach,
23:04hired by the Titans in 2018,
23:07made three playoff trips
23:08and to the AFC Championship game in 2019.
23:14AP Coach of the Year after the 2021 season.
23:18And then let go by the Titans after 2023,
23:22his second straight losing season.
23:24Spent last year as a coaching consultant
23:27with the Cleveland Browns,
23:28and has done a great job here in his first year
23:31back in New England where he played.
23:32Ward on first down,
23:40and he's got Tyler Lockett,
23:43who runs out of bounds.
23:45And we talked with Mike Vrabel
23:47yesterday at the Patriots team hotel.
23:49He said, and he echoed this with A.J.,
23:51not nostalgic at all.
23:54Instead of driving my own car to the game today,
23:56I'll just take the bus,
23:58go in a different entrance.
23:59He said, we're not trying to win one for the giver today.
24:03And the quote that was echoed throughout during the week,
24:07it's interesting I'm coming back, but not important.
24:09And Drake May told us that message really resonated
24:12with the team this week.
24:13They didn't feel like there was any extra,
24:16even though May probably admitted that
24:18probably Vrabel feels a little bit extra.
24:21That pass falls incomplete,
24:22but it's been a very business-like approach
24:25for Mike Vrabel throughout the week.
24:27I like how he brought the gipper into it.
24:30I mean, when you win one for the gipper,
24:33that's a big deal, right?
24:34And he's like, nah, it's not about that
24:36and the whole deal.
24:38And I think Iowa Manor had a look
24:40and saw Duggar 23 and Carlton Davis 7
24:43bearing down on him.
24:44But we'll say this, guys,
24:46as we start coaching searches in the NFL,
24:48and we're going to have a few more,
24:50I believe, that are going to happen,
24:52people are going to use Mike Vrabel as a model
24:54about what they're looking for
24:56in their next head football coach.
24:59Why do you say that, CD?
25:00Because what he does with an organization
25:03that he pulls together everyone, right?
25:06Yes, he's known as a defensive coach.
25:08I get that.
25:09But the relationship he's forged with his quarterback,
25:12Drake May, who's playing at a really high level,
25:14lets you know that, okay,
25:16he's locked in on everything on this team.
25:19Special teams, offense, defense, the whole deal.
25:21Has his hands on everything.
25:22Every part of the organization and the pulse
25:24and the strength to stand up in front of us
25:27and really have us kind of kowtow to him
25:30in a press conference.
25:32That's a Parcells.
25:33That's a Belichick.
25:34See what I'm going with this?
25:36Plus the success on the field.
25:38He's like the antidote to all the offensive guys
25:40that we talk about every year getting jobs.
25:42Chase on with the sack.
25:45Getting Cam Ward to the ground on third down
25:48with a minute and a half to go in the third quarter.
25:53Well, Vrabel talked about in the second half
25:54they had to get more pressure on Cam Ward.
25:57They have everybody up here at the line of scrimmage
25:59before the snap, and they come with the blitz.
26:02Chase on comes off the edge and gets around more
26:04and is able to track down Cam Ward.
26:07And the last thing I'll say about Mike Vrabel,
26:11we use the word presence a lot with coaches.
26:14Anyone have more presence than Mike Vrabel?
26:17He's got it.
26:19Jones watched the punt go over his head.
26:22It bounces at the one and comes back inside the tent.
26:26So after a rough punt the last time by Hecker,
26:29he drills a beauty here of 53 yards.
26:33We'll be back in 30 seconds after this
26:35from Progressive Insurance.
26:38Um, okay, so hold on.
26:39We want three double chickens and fries.
26:42Sorry, three cheeseburgers with mayo.
26:45No, you said no mayo.
26:47Don't forget my strawberry milkshake.
26:48Hold on.
26:49So we want, we want four chickens with fries.
26:51No, sorry, three burgers.
26:52Trubisky, you're in.
26:54Mitch Trubisky, backup orderer.
26:56If only there were backups in real life.
26:58Combo three, no mayo.
26:59But at least there's Progressive
27:01to protect your home in auto.
27:03And one strawberry shake.
27:04Please drive forward.
27:05Guys, should we trade Danny?
27:06Ha-ha, very funny.
27:14Talking about Mike Braybill before that timeout.
27:16All class as well.
27:18He called Brian Callahan this week,
27:20who was fired by the Titans on Monday.
27:23He said, I know it's a tough feeling
27:25when you've got kids who are in school.
27:27And he said, nobody texts you or calls you
27:29when you lose, only when you win.
27:31And Braybill did reach out to Callahan earlier this week.
27:35May throwing on first down.
27:37And a nice catch along the sideline by Diggs.
27:41May dropped that one in the bucket.
27:43Andrew, I don't know if I've ever seen a quarterback
27:48just be this on the money
27:50with passes that are deep down the field.
27:53And Diggs does such a great job of what we call late hands.
27:57He's not running with his hands out there
27:59where the DP is trying to stare
28:00and get his hand in the pocket to break the pass up.
28:03At the last second, he puts the hands out there
28:06and is able to haul that one in.
28:0914 straight completions for May.
28:11They run it here with Stevenson.
28:12Stiff arm in the backfield.
28:14And then a second win by Stevenson
28:17gets him to the 28-yard line.
28:20And that should be the final play of the third quarter.
28:23Three quarters in the books here in the Music City.
28:35And the Patriots have a 31-13 lead on the Titans
28:39in Mike Braybill's return to Nashville.
28:45Start of the fourth quarter here at Nissan Stadium.
28:48Robert Kraft, chairman and CEO of the Patriots,
28:51watching with Jonathan Kraft,
28:53president of the Kraft group.
28:55And they have to be happy with what they've seen
28:56through three quarters.
28:5731-13 as Drake May and the New England offense
29:02start the quarter with second and six.
29:05And Diggs has a first down.
29:07Seventh catch today for Stephon Diggs.
29:14And I'll say this.
29:15We talked to Drake May yesterday before the game.
29:17And we asked him,
29:19what have you learned most being in this system
29:21that's helped you elevate your game?
29:23He said understanding why each play is called
29:26and what the objective is of the play.
29:29If it's meant to go down the field, look for it.
29:31If it's meant to be a short pass,
29:33get it out there quickly.
29:34But don't just hold on to the football
29:36and try to create on every single play.
29:39Here's Stevenson and Ramondre Stevenson across the 45 into the 46-yard line.
29:51A six-yard pickup for Stevenson.
29:53Now, the Patriots have gone 22 straight games without a 100-yard rusher.
29:59That's the longest active streak in the NFL.
30:02Stevenson now has 87 yards on the ground today.
30:05But Stevenson was the last one, correct?
30:08120 yards against Cincinnati.
30:09Opening game 2024 at Cincinnati.
30:13And tagging on to Drake May.
30:16Offense coordinator Josh McDaniel says
30:17he is just simply throwing the ball
30:19exactly where it's supposed to go each time right now.
30:22It means his reads are good.
30:25You mentioned the word decisive earlier.
30:28The why of the play understands it all,
30:31which goes into why he's making decisions that he's making.
30:36That offseason work with David Morris,
30:39the in-season work he's doing now.
30:41David Morris, his personal quarterback's coach,
30:43who also works with Daniel Jones,
30:46who I believe we'll see next week,
30:48is off to a really hot start.
30:50That training really worked well,
30:52and they've carried it over.
30:53Oh, let's go.
30:55Let's go.
30:55Let's go.
30:56Let's go.
30:56Let's go.
30:56Let's go.
30:56Let's go.
30:57Let's go.
30:57Let's go.
30:57Let's go.
30:58Let's go.
30:58Let's go.
31:01Third down and three.
31:03Pressure coming.
31:04May stands in there.
31:06Now on the move,
31:07trying to dive for the first down.
31:09We'll see where they spot him.
31:10Great effort by Drake Mayne.
31:13It looks like he might just have enough.
31:16Chased by Jahad Ward.
31:19Now there's any question he got the first down.
31:22Only way is if his foot went out of bounds behind him,
31:25but no way.
31:25He was diving,
31:26clearly had this first down and was out ahead of it.
31:32Great effort there.
31:34See, the foot stays in bounds as he uses it,
31:36uses the ball, gets out of bounds.
31:39First down.
31:40And the clock continues to tick.
31:46That's the second time the ball's got to come out when he's hit the ground.
31:49I guarantee Joshua Dan's going to be working on that next week.
31:52I want to see you have the ball all the way through.
31:54Got to clean up things before it becomes an issue.
31:58Travion Henderson with just his second carry today.
32:02And a lot of that is because of the way Stevenson has run the ball.
32:05They haven't really had a reason to take Ramondre Stevenson off the field.
32:09He's been very good at getting downhill and picking up yards,
32:13and he's ran extremely aggressive today, finishing runs with physicality.
32:18And that's something that we hadn't seen from this offense really thus far this season.
32:21And what's the one extra thing you would add with Stevenson?
32:24What have you not seen today?
32:26Ball security.
32:26Ball security is keeping that ball high and tight.
32:28Ball's not been on the ground.
32:29There's Mack Collins.
32:35And Mack following his blocks on the 43-yard line.
32:39To Vondre Sweat, who was just activated off of IR yesterday,
32:43makes the tackle for Tennessee.
32:47That's been a fun thing with this offense,
32:49especially in the wide receiver room.
32:51And Kayshawn Booty said it.
32:53Todd Downing has been the best coach he's had
32:56when it comes to the wide receiver position.
32:58And then right there, Mack Hollins gets it reversed.
33:01Their ability to spread the ball around to all of these guys
33:04and everyone getting an opportunity when their number is called.
33:09Third down and three for May and the Patriots.
33:17Over the middle, first down.
33:20May to Hunter Henry.
33:23And there is an injured Titan down behind the play,
33:25and that is Draymond Jones.
33:27So, already, without Arden Key,
33:31Jeffrey Simmons out for the game with a hamstring injury.
33:35LeJarious Sneed, questionable to return with a quad injury.
33:39And now Draymond Jones is down.
33:41A nightmare for Tennessee defensively.
33:44NFL on CBS is sponsored by Burger King.
33:49At BK, have it your way.
33:52You rule.
33:54Verizon, the best 5G network.
33:56There's only one best.
33:58And by The Home Depot.
34:01How doers get more done.
34:03How about our guy, Charles Davis, with his teammates last week,
34:12celebrating the 40-year anniversary of winning the SEC championship at Tennessee?
34:18Yeah, that was fun.
34:19That was a lot of fun.
34:19That was our first SEC title in 16 years in Knoxville.
34:22So, our fans were starved for it.
34:24We went to the Sugar Bowl, beat Miami 35-7,
34:28and finished number four in the country.
34:29But because it was such a magical season,
34:32we'll be forever known as the Sugar Volts.
34:34Back there in Tennessee lore.
34:35Thank goodness we have such great fans and people.
34:38And what a thrill to see my teammates last week.
34:40Very cool.
34:41May in trouble.
34:43And Tavondre Sweat brings him down.
34:45All 366 pounds of them.
34:50And this is big for Tennessee.
34:53Even though the score is 31-13,
34:55Jason, the development of Tavondre Sweat is key for them.
34:59A second-round pick, number 93.
35:02We know he can be a dominant run-stuffer.
35:04But can he push to pocket in passing situations and be that guy?
35:09If they can keep getting plays like that out of him,
35:12that's exactly what they're looking for and exactly what they need.
35:15Because simply playing the run in the NFL now for defensive linemen,
35:19it's not like playing in the 1980s.
35:21You got to be able to go get the quarterback and affect him.
35:23Second career sack for Sweat.
35:26May is going to step up and run right up the middle.
35:28And he slides down as Sweat was close to him again.
35:31And May wanted no part of that.
35:33Wisely getting to the ground.
35:35And now it's third down.
35:36Titans fans would love to see Tavondre Sweat make more plays.
35:39I think you'll enjoy that celebration,
35:41him rubbing that big old belly right there.
35:45They'll like it better when he can rub that belly when the score is reversed for them.
35:50That's for sure.
35:52For Denard Wilson now, a third down the last time.
35:55He had a lot of people at the line of scrimmage,
35:57but dropped out and only rushed four.
35:59We're going to see right here Cedric Gray.
36:01He's going to be lined up.
36:02And here is Barton lined up.
36:04Both of those guys mugged up.
36:05Pressure coming off the edge.
36:07May takes a shot.
36:09It was Kevin Winston, the rookie third-round pick out of Penn State.
36:14And May a little slow to get up.
36:15And now slowly heading back to the Patriots' sideline.
36:19And that's the beauty right there.
36:20When you have those two guys up in the inside,
36:23the offensive line is expecting them to come.
36:25Both of Barton and Gray drop out.
36:27And now Winston's able to fly off the edge, unblocked, and get home to Drake May.
36:33And boy, we're going to see a lot more of Kevin Winston in the weeks to come,
36:36coming back from an ACL injury.
36:38They are really excited about his potential.
36:41May had thrown 16 consecutive completions until that third down play fell incomplete.
36:47Tennessee getting the ball back.
36:49Fourth quarter here on Cedric.
36:51And our colleague Wes Archer will be watching tonight.
36:55Happy birthday to Wes.
36:57Hey, happy birthday, Wes.
36:59Well done.
37:01Well, the Titans this half have run eight plays for negative three yards.
37:07See what they can do here with 8.45 to go.
37:09Ward to the sideline.
37:13Did Helm get the feet in?
37:14Yes, he did.
37:15Nice catch by the rookie tight end out of Texas.
37:21This is a good job by Cam Ward.
37:24Gets to the outside, makes the throw.
37:27You can see the feet right there by Gunnar Helm.
37:29Gets him down, secures the ball, makes a nice catch along the sideline.
37:33I expect Helm's role to keep expanding as well.
37:36Fourth round pick out of Texas.
37:37Near Spears, an open space.
37:40Carlton Davis, the initial hit.
37:42And then Marte Mapu finished him off.
37:45And the Titans trying to go as quickly as they can.
37:48A no-huddle operation for Cam Ward right now.
37:56Ward, back to Helm.
37:59And Mapu is there.
38:01That's going to be very close to a Tennessee first down.
38:06And good enough.
38:07Jason, you had to deal with those tight ends your entire career.
38:14How important are those tight ends for a young quarterback?
38:16Gunnar Helm, Chico Conquero for Tennessee.
38:19Those are security blankets that we've seen him do a really good job
38:22of getting the ball out to them quickly this afternoon.
38:27Ward.
38:27And this one reeled in by Iow Manor.
38:32Carlton Davis on the tackle.
38:34So the Titans, who have said they enjoy going tempo.
38:38Now, obviously, with the Patriots having a lead,
38:40the defense is a little different.
38:41But Cam Ward has said he feels very comfortable going no-huddle.
38:45Titans have run the fifth most no-huddle plays in the NFL.
38:51Ward over the middle.
38:52And that one is incomplete, but a flag flies in.
38:56Carlton Davis had the coverage.
39:03And it's going to be on Davis.
39:06Pass interference.
39:07Defense.
39:10Ball, he's placed at the spot of the foul.
39:12Offers down.
39:13And Carlton Davis is arguing with the official.
39:23He's saying that Iow Manor got his hand up on him.
39:26But when the official saw Carlton Davis' hands wrap around the wide receiver,
39:31that's what's going to force him to make that call every single time.
39:35Where he got in trouble was he got jammed up flat-footed.
39:38Talked about Carlton Davis settling a flat-footed stance.
39:41And Iow Manor was able to play off of him.
39:43As you pointed out, he got caught wrapped around him.
39:47Spears.
39:49And he gets just inside the 40-yard line.
39:51Inside, seven minutes to go.
39:55Coming up, State Farm postgame show.
39:57JB, Nate, Matt Ryan, Coach Cowher.
40:00All the scores and highlights coming up on the State Farm postgame show.
40:04You can hear the wind whipping in our microphones.
40:08Ward, and that pass may have been deflected by Mapu.
40:12If not, Okonkwo was open over the middle.
40:16But Marte, Mapu, all six, three of them affected that pass.
40:23For safety from Sacramento State, who played safety and linebacker.
40:28And as you noted, Andrew, gets a couple of fingers on the football and alters the trajectory.
40:35And Okonkwo is going away.
40:37And the ball ends up behind him, and he can't haul it in.
40:39But Mapu settled in mainly at linebacker now with the New England Patriots.
40:43So I'll make that big interception late week two down in Miami.
40:48Third down for Ward.
40:50Pressure's coming.
40:50It's Harold Landry, the former Titan, getting it done against Tennessee.
40:58Five and a half sacks on the year now for Landry.
41:07So Landry coming from right here and coming off of the edge.
41:12Helms probably going to go out of pattern, but he tries to chip off him a little bit.
41:16And he works his way all the way back inside.
41:19We call that a long stick move where you come in, you stick upfield,
41:23and then you come long ways back inside all the way up into the pocket to take down the quarterback.
41:28Going forward on fourth and 14, Ward's got all day, has to take the check down to Spears.
41:34Can he get to the line to game?
41:35No.
41:35Mapu, another tackle, and the Patriots take over.
41:40So this Patriots defense has played very well today.
41:43New England had a total of four sacks in their last four games.
41:48Landry's sack on third down was the fifth today by the Patriots defense.
41:53In this second half, they have just completely shut down this Tennessee Titans offense,
41:59and that's to go along with a touchdown by K. LeVon Chason.
42:02You guys talked about Marte Mapu.
42:04He came into the NFL, and was he a linebacker?
42:07Was he a safety?
42:08Not really sure in the first few years.
42:10This year, they told him, you're playing just linebacker.
42:13He's carved out a role in passing situations.
42:17He's the linebacker that lines up next to Spears.
42:19It's amazing the depth the Patriots have at the inside linebacker position right now.
42:23A number of guys who can play.
42:26Terrell Jennings elevated off the practice squad for the second straight week.
42:30Takes the handoff here.
42:32That's his first touch of the season.
42:35And Mike McCoy calls a timeout for Tennessee.
42:38That's the first timeout of the game by either team.
42:42Kind of strange with 5.43 to go.
42:45Yeah, well, we finished that first half out,
42:47and we were waiting for the Titans possibly to use their timeouts
42:50to try to drive the ball down the field.
42:52They chose not to.
42:53Now McCoy's using them.
42:55We criticize them a little bit in the first half, but hey.
42:59See what's coming up for the Patriots.
43:01Home to Cleveland.
43:02The Cleveland team that's beating up Miami right now.
43:05And then the Patriots will be home the following week against the Atlanta Falcons.
43:09I saw that last part, easiest remaining strength of schedule.
43:13I just want to remind people, this is a franchise that won four games in four games
43:17each of the last two years before you start saying,
43:21hey, easy schedule, we're a juggernaut.
43:24Mike Vrabel understands that better than anyone.
43:26They're getting way better.
43:28They're playing at a really high level, but each week will be a test for them.
43:32Titans call timeout.
43:33Yeah, Stephon Diggs said we can't drink the Kool-Aid
43:36with a lot of people talking about first place in playoffs.
43:39Drake Mays said we have to ignore the noise.
43:42And look, they've played that way today.
43:46Tennessee came out sharp in the first quarter,
43:48but the Patriots have had the answers.
43:51And that's back-to-back weeks because last week in New Orleans,
43:53that was considered a trap game of coming off the big division rival win
43:58down up in Buffalo, and they got that victory.
44:01I think for fans, you're excited.
44:02You've seen the last few seasons of what this team has looked like,
44:06and regardless of the wins and losses right now,
44:08the product just looks a lot better.
44:11Movement up front.
44:14False start.
44:16Offense.
44:17Number 66.
44:18It's a five-year lead.
44:19Still third down.
44:20That's the fourth false start this year against the rookie, Campbell.
44:24This is a team that has quickly found a maturity under their brand-new head coach.
44:32Jason, it has to be a lot quicker than maybe what anyone possibly could have expected
44:37to be where they are right now, and you pointed it out.
44:40You window up at Buffalo.
44:41You're waiting for the letdown.
44:43They play tough and win in New Orleans.
44:45Could it be this week at Tennessee?
44:46Doesn't appear to be.
44:48They're maturing quickly.
44:50May finds a completion here.
44:52And that is Austin Hooper on the receiving end.
44:57And Tennessee will call its final timeout.
45:01And to your point, I love what Keyshawn Booty told us when we met with him yesterday.
45:05He said that day one, first team meeting, Mike Brable came in and said,
45:10I don't expect you guys to trust me right now, but I'm going to build that trust.
45:14Just stick with me.
45:16And Booty said he already has.
45:17We already trust him, and we love him.
45:19And just, I think Brable's ability to be honest and candid goes a long way in today's NFL.
45:26And that's such a great point, because Booty was a guy that said since college,
45:29he's had six years with six different head coaches.
45:32So he is a guy who's probably not ready to trust a head coach right away.
45:37A guy like Stephon Diggs said, this week, I don't know how he got me to,
45:40but he's got me to completely buy in.
45:42And that's a veteran who's been on multiple teams.
45:45Mike Brable knows what he's doing as a head coach.
45:50Titans are out of timeouts.
45:52It'll be Behringer to punt and DK, the deep man.
45:57That's a short one by Behringer.
45:59And DK goes for a fair catch at the 24-yard line.
46:0234-yard punt by Behringer.
46:07Coming up, State Farm postgame.
46:09All the scores it highlights from around the league on the State Farm postgame show.
46:14So Cam Ward, 19 of 26, 212 yards, a touchdown pass,
46:25and a fumble, which led to the chase on touchdown.
46:29Ward, and Pollard has that one.
46:47Let's go back to New York NFL Today update with Adam Schein.
46:50Andrew, when it rains, it pours for the Dolphins.
46:52Two and John of Arlo, a second pick of the day,
46:55led to Prince John Junkins, third touchdown of the game.
46:5931-6, Browns.
47:02Yikes, Miami.
47:03Back to you.
47:05And literally raining as well, Adam.
47:08Raining and pouring on the Dolphins in Cleveland.
47:11Pollard again, tippy-toeing the sideline out of bounds with a first down.
47:20Cam Ward told us that he feels for Brian Callahan, who was fired on Monday.
47:26He said he really helped him in his rookie year.
47:29He's the same Cam Ward who in the preseason said,
47:32you look at the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
47:34They all have coaching stability, and that's what we need here.
47:38Well, he already lost his coach in October.
47:41We asked Cam Ward, what do you want in the next head coach of the Titans?
47:47And he said, want someone who can connect with all sides of the locker room,
47:52and I trust the people here who will make the decision and get this hire right.
47:57And those people are Amy Adams-Strunk, Chad Brinker, president of football operations,
48:01and the GM, Mike Borgonzi.
48:04Chad Brinker will run point on the search, and they have all these weeks to work on it.
48:10You know, they won't necessarily name someone, like, next week.
48:13That's not going to happen.
48:14But they have all these weeks to work their way through the process
48:18to assess what they want in a coach
48:20and then be able to make their decision down the road after interviews.
48:26It was interesting talking to him, asking him, what, everything going on,
48:29a little bit of chaos.
48:30Like, do you have someone you lean on?
48:33And he said, the film.
48:34I just watch more football through all of this.
48:36Hey, what did he say?
48:38I love the quote, I want to watch too much film.
48:41Yep.
48:42Other people would say, hey, you might want to get away a little bit,
48:45and what have you.
48:46And he's like, I live my life through football.
48:48That's where I am right now.
48:55Tony Pollard has been busy on this drive.
48:58He now has six catches for the game.
49:00First down and 10 for Tennessee at the New England 43-yard line.
49:09And now Spears into the ball game at running back.
49:14These are all plays for experience right now.
49:16Can you get the ball to some of your youngsters
49:18and keep giving them opportunities
49:19as they continue to grow in the NFL game?
49:24Spears tackled immediately by Mapu
49:26as we approach four minutes to play.
49:38Ward's sideline incomplete.
49:40So the Titans, barring a miracle comeback,
49:50will lose their seventh consecutive game at home.
49:54That's the longest active streak.
49:56Their last win at home was week nine last year
50:00against the Patriots, a game they won in overtime.
50:03Ward, Jefferson, handling the sideline and picks up the first down.
50:16Christian Gonzalez on the tackle for the Patriots.
50:21Is that the first time you've mentioned Christian Gonzalez today?
50:24And I don't mean that in a negative.
50:26It's just, he is so good out at the corner.
50:30You're going to take pains to stay away from him
50:32most teams when you're playing.
50:38And that one's intercepted.
50:40Picked off by Marcus Jones on the return.
50:43And Jones with a deflection interception.
50:47And the Patriots defense continues to shine in the Music City.
50:52It's so fitting for it to be Marcus Jones that makes that play
50:57at the nickel slot position
50:59because he has been outstanding these last two weeks.
51:03Interceptions, pass breakups, sacks.
51:06And that's to go along with everything he does
51:07on the punt return game, CD.
51:09And it's always tough for a quarterback
51:10when it's a deflection interception,
51:12when it goes off the hands of your receiver.
51:14But that happened because he was so inaccurate.
51:16His receiver was trying to save the play.
51:19And the ball went off of his hands
51:20when it was thrown severely behind him.
51:22We've seen that a few times today
51:24where Cam Ward has just been off the mark with his pass
51:27and has to go along with the fumble he had today.
51:30So we said it earlier,
51:31Cam Ward has all the ability in the world.
51:33It's going to be the small things
51:35as he continues to learn how to play
51:37the quarterback position in the NFL.
51:39Really glad you brought up Marcus Jones, though.
51:41He's having a really nice season.
51:42Unbelievable.
51:45Josh Dobbs in that quarterback.
51:47So Drake May's day is done.
51:49Jennings lowers his shoulder.
51:51Terrell Jennings happy to get a carry here
51:55and making the most of it.
51:57He's one of those FAMU rattlers.
51:59He went ahead and hissed and struck on that one, didn't he?
52:03This plays like that when I'm standing in a booth.
52:05I'm like, man.
52:06Yeah, you're good.
52:06I can't believe I used to be out there
52:08trying to tackle people like that.
52:09Not only that, you stepped up in the hole and met him.
52:13Man.
52:15Now a flag down.
52:17You weren't back there waiting.
52:19You were closing gaps.
52:2012 men in the huddle.
52:22Offense.
52:22Five-yard penalty.
52:24Second down.
52:25Hey, when you're up 31-13,
52:26everybody wants to get in the game.
52:27Everybody's trying to get out on the field.
52:35So May's day appears to be done.
52:3721 of 23.
52:40For 222 yards and two touchdown passes.
52:43He also ran for 62 yards.
52:46And what's been a successful return to Nashville for Mike Vrabel.
53:10This has gone exactly, I think, how Mike Vrabel would have drawn it up.
53:14Coming back to Nashville in the fourth quarter and said,
53:17you know what, I'm going to have my backup quarterback in the game.
53:20Some of my backup offensive linemen
53:22because I'm going to be up so many points on my former team.
53:26The New England Patriots have done a great job weathering the storm
53:28because the Titans started this game off.
53:30Putting points on the board first and playing really well.
53:35Vrabel went exactly as he drew it up in his mind.
53:38He shot out.
53:4134.
53:41Or Jennings has spun down short of a first down.
53:44But this is close enough, I would say.
53:47And that'll take us to the two-minute warning.
53:57Jennings running hard.
53:58And the Patriots are two minutes away from improving to 5-2 on the year.
54:04It's to go in Nashville.
54:06Patriots up big.
54:0731-13.
54:08There's Wes, the birthday boy.
54:10Happy birthday.
54:11Hey, how many guys do you know have a birthday?
54:14And they're the ones who bring the gifts and the goodies for everyone else.
54:17He did.
54:17Thank you to your beautiful wife for the cookies.
54:20And thank you, Wes, for the banana pudding.
54:22On fourth down, Jennings.
54:24And that push gives him a first down.
54:27And the Patriots can now take a knee and send Mike Vrabel home with another win.
54:34And now this is just the second time in regular season franchise history the Patriots have won three straight road games in a three-week span.
54:48Only other time during the regular season was back in 1961.
54:53And they are chanting Vrabel here at Nissan Stadium.
54:58Oh, ho, ho, ho, ho.
55:00He downplayed his return all week.
55:20Stayed consistent with the message that it was interesting he was coming back, but not important.
55:27And his team responded with a huge win on the road, 31-13.
55:33Man, that's got to sting.
55:35Crowd here chanting Vrabel right after the Titans let go of Brian Callahan, the man who was hired to replace him.
55:42Not a pretty day in Nashville for the Tennessee Titans, that's for sure.
55:47Patriots win their fourth consecutive game.
55:57They improve to 5-2, remain in first place in the AFC East.
56:12What a fantastic job for this Patriots team, though.
56:15Three games on the road, second-year quarterback, all the emotions that went in with Vrabel coming back and all of the chatter.
56:23And all they do is come down here and take care of business.
56:26Two very good halves of football.
56:28Drake may, again, another game without a turnover, and they end up victorious.
56:33Mike McCoy takes the loss in his first game as interim head coach of Tennessee.
56:4831-13, the final score here in Nashville.
56:52Coming up next, it's the State Farm Postgame Show.
56:55So, for Charles Davis, Jason McCourty, A.J. Ross, and our entire crew, this is Andrew Catalan saying so long from Nashville.
57:07And we'll take you back to New York for all the scores and highlights right after this.
57:12We'll be right back.
