00:00The kickoff to come from the 40 and it was dropped into the landing zone. He got that short return and near fumble and the Bears will start at their own 23 down by a point as they hand to DJ Moore and DJ Moore on first down brought down by Wagner after a gain of four for the commanders. They turn the ball over each of their first two drives that turned into 10 points for Chicago.
00:28They led 13 to nothing moments ago. Luke McCaffrey gets his third touchdown over the last four games and the commanders have their first lead of the ballgame late third quarter. Yeah, the commanders, they've kind of gotten accustomed to getting behind by double digits. Haven't always overcome them, but they did last week 10 points and after being down, like you said, 13 points in this game.
00:54Swift breaks through and gets hit by Reeves, but a big carry by DeAndre Swift as he gets 14 yards.
01:07Jonah Jackson, number 73, the right guard, does an excellent job. He kind of helps out there initially with his center and then he goes up to the second level.
01:16But I've seen so many holes in this game, much more than what they had gotten in the other four games combined.
01:23This offensive line has really done a nice job overall.
01:28Here's Mononga on a screen, blocking in front, down inside the 35.
01:36Roma Dunze was out there blocking, delivered a good block and a 25-yard catch and run.
01:42Yeah, just the key to when you run screens, the key to making them work is just timing it up.
01:49And the offensive line, look at the rushers that are let go and here they come.
01:53And they're all converging then on Caleb Williams and you got a convoy then out in front.
01:59And a lot of blockers could have actually, if he had hung in there and maybe bounced it to the outside, could have gotten even more out of that.
02:05block.
02:08B.J. Moore is getting attention on the sideline.
02:12Play clock down to two, one, they get it away on first down.
02:17Williams steps up and throws too high for Olamide Zaccheaus.
02:26Off his hands, incomplete second and 10.
02:28Yeah, that's like playing shortstop, trying to make a throw there.
02:34As he gets outside the pocket, it was tough trying to deliver the football,
02:40but there was a lot of heat on this throw as well when it came off his hand.
02:53Second down and ten.
02:58Quick throw, Burden.
03:05Luther Burden is a yard short of a first down.
03:08He got nine.
03:10Wagner out there to make the stop as they try to flex Burden more into this offense.
03:17Had a couple of nice catches in this game.
03:19Well, one of the things you see, Caleb Williams' speed, he's got his left foot up,
03:23and it was a big discussion point coming into this season.
03:26He used to keep his right foot up, and Ben Johnson was adamant that the quarterback has his left foot up.
03:31And the reason being, primarily, is that you're able to make those types of throws that quick.
03:37It's just a lot easier to do it.
03:39It's more efficient.
03:40Paid off on that last play.
03:44The snap juggled, and down goes Caleb Williams at the end of the third quarter.
03:49And Kron Martin was in there for the stop, along with Bobby Wagner.
03:58A bobble with the snap at a loss of five.
04:06And off to the fourth quarter we go in a one-point game.
04:11Here in Maryland.
04:12The snap from center was a little wide and a little hot out to the left.
04:24Caleb Williams could not corral it cleanly, and on a third and one play, a loss of five
04:29to bring up fourth down and six.
04:31And the field goal unit comes on for Ben Johnson as a result.
04:35Well, you see the look on Ben Johnson's face.
04:37And the first thing, it wasn't perfect, but the first thing you got to do is you got
04:40to secure the football as the quarterback.
04:43And, you know, it was off to the side.
04:46It was hot.
04:47But, you know, and you do, as a quarterback, you don't want to have to battle that.
04:51You took advantage of it.
04:55Well, what a night this could be for Jake Moody.
04:58His first game as a Chicago Bear.
05:0048-yard drive.
05:04For the lead.
05:07And blocks.
05:13Blocked by Washington.
05:17And they stay out in front by one.
05:29That kick certainly looked like it came out low.
05:32It really low, Joe.
05:33It didn't look like there was all that much push inside.
05:38And, you know, it came off so flat.
05:40And two of the big guys in the middle might have been Kinlaw.
05:49Kinlaw got an arm on it.
05:51And Dan Quinn celebrates his special teams play.
05:56And to Ron Payne, the two big guys in the middle got up and got their arms on that football.
06:02It looked like, it looked like they could have blocked it without even jumping.
06:06You know, it was that flat.
06:07And so the Commanders stay out in front by one.
06:14And then Charlie Finns and the team plays.
06:15Scott Merritt gets a few up to the 40.
06:20First blocked field goal of the season for the Commanders.
06:28And it comes here at the start of the fourth quarter to keep the lead for the home team.

11:53And the team that trailed by 13 now leads by 8
11:57Next week we'll bring you two games again on Monday Night Football early.
12:08It's Tampa Bay and Detroit at 7 o'clock Eastern on ABC and ESPN and then at 10 o'clock Houston and Seattle on ESPN.
12:17Both games available on the all-new ESPN app.
12:21Talked about Baker Mayfield earlier in the ballgame, 12 touchdowns, one interception for the season and at one point yesterday, he and they were without their top four receivers and got a win at home over the 49ers.
12:36Nice return here by Duvernay.
12:40And let's go down to Laura Rutledge.
12:42Well, Joe, as you guys might imagine, Caleb Williams has been frustrated, especially in the second half, but he has a great support system down here.
12:50JT Barrett is quarterback's coach as well as Case Keenum is down here.
12:54He's almost like a coach even as a backup quarterback, encouraging Caleb throughout as Caleb has complained about some of the mistakes, showing him even on the film where there are open opportunities and guys where he can take advantage of matchups.
13:07Also encouraging him to fight back.
13:09That's been the message here of late.
13:12Yeah, I mean, it's all out there in front of him here still.
13:15It's an eight-point game.
13:16They called an illegal formation on that kickoff, and so that moves the ball, the penalty, up to the 39, good starting field position.
13:28They're down by eight.
13:29Yeah, it was a pretty tough return, you know, to get what he got, but then with the penalty, it sets this drive up perfectly.
13:36And here's Swift on a delayed handoff, fighting, and he's had a nice, nice toad going.
13:42He's got three tacklers on it, and able to get six.
13:46First guy there was Jacob Martin.
13:49This cues tonight for Chicago.
13:51They had a touchdown nullified by the illegal formation.
13:54They had that incompletion on fourth and one at the Washington 31.
13:58They had a field goal block.
14:00By the way, as you see what they've done on third down, one for seven.
14:03They've crossed midfield six of seven possessions and have scored only one touchdown.
14:09Yeah, this was an offense coming into this game that had been good on third down.
14:15Caleb Baiss time, airs it out.
14:17Odunze!
14:19Incomplete.
14:20Never had a chance.
14:23Savage and Quan Martin were back there for the commanders bracketing Rome Odunze.
14:28Yeah, you don't know what exactly Caleb Williams is being told or what they're going to do when they come in the game.
14:34But, you know, do you say, hey, we're going to take our shot, give him a chance?
14:37But there was no chance that this ball, you know, you got two defenders and they were there the whole time.
14:43And, you know, okay, you give Odunze an opportunity to go up and make a play, and that's fine.
14:48But I would have maybe liked him to come underneath and take the sure thing, especially there on second down.
14:57Yeah, now third down and four.
14:58Play clock is a two.
15:02They just got it away, and it's Swift with a catch.
15:06And still going!
15:08DeAndre Swift veers into the end zone.
15:12Juan Martin missed a tackle along the way.
15:25They needed four.
15:27On third down, they get 55, and they barely got this play away before the play clock expired.
15:33They barely get it off.
15:34D.J. Moore, he's going to take out two guys.
15:36So as he pushes up, he runs one defender, and he's a defender who's supposed to be covering DeAndre Swift.
15:42And that's why Swift was as open as he is.
15:44And then you make one guy miss, and now with his speed, he's off to the races.
15:49So just some luck on Chicago's part.
15:54It really wasn't so much intended to be a pick, but it turned into that just based on how it was defended.
16:01Now the two-point try to try and tie it.
16:030 for 1 on the season, two-point tries, and Williams in trouble.
16:12Throws back, man! Incomplete for Zaccheaus.
16:18So they get the touchdown, cannot convert on the two-point try.
16:23The 55-yarder to DeAndre Swift.
16:28With the rain coming down again in Landover, it's a two-point game.
16:32Take a look at that last play.
16:39Here's Kyle Munungai, the tailback, and he's going to go to the flat.
16:42And that's typically the first read.
16:43And if Caleb goes right to him, he's got it.
16:46You know, just put it in his hands, and he's going to get it in the end zone.
16:50But his eyes were kind of up the field here or here.
16:53I'm not sure exactly where he was looking.
16:55And also the other part that people don't understand at times, that tackle right here, he can get in the line of sight for the quarterback.
17:03And sometimes he blinds the quarterback in being able to see that guy in the flat.
17:08But something kept him from going to Munungai immediately because that was really his only place to go with the football.
17:16The Bears 0-2 this season on two-point tries.
17:21Not good since the start of last year.
17:24But new coaching staff, new personnel, same story.
17:28And with this windy night, the ball is knocked off the tee as Moody will kick it away.
17:34DeAndre Swift with 141 total yards and a touchdown on 11 touches in this game.
17:40Took it 55 yards on the catch and run, but the two-point try fails, and it's a two-point lead for the Commanders.
17:48Well, DeAndre Swift, when he's had good blocking for him, whether in Detroit or in Philadelphia, he's been productive.
17:55And he wasn't so much here.
17:57But he's had space tonight, he's gotten the ball in space, and he's done a lot with it.
18:02Here is McCaffrey, co-head of steam, up to the 40.
18:05Back to where Jaden Daniels.
18:12And we'll look at some of the highlights from tonight.
18:16This is not one of them for Jaden with a pick.
18:20DeBrisker, this is a spinning catch by Chris Moore for the touchdown.
18:25McCaffrey was all alone for the go-ahead points.
18:30And then Ertz, last time they went down the field, Zach Ertz took it in.
18:35They started to hit their stride.
18:37We've talked about it.
18:38I like the fact that Jaden Daniels, you know, he didn't get flustered when they got behind.
18:43I know Dan Quinn would like to see this team get off with some faster starts, but I sure like the way that they continue to play and continue to battle.
18:52Daniels was four for four on that last touchdown drive, and he's going to try and outrun two defenders.
18:58And he turned that into a decent little pickup by spinning inside Stevenson and Edmonds and getting three.
19:09And now it starts to become a defensive battle as far as who's going to be able to make a stop.
19:14Obviously, so much time still left in this fourth quarter.
19:16But the Washington Commanders, they started this drive with outstanding field position after that return.
19:28Second down and seven.
19:30Time runs out.
19:40Daniels breaks the tackle.
19:42Out to his right and not able to outrun Dominique Robinson, who forced him out.
19:49That first tackle was missed by Brisker.
19:52A gain of two.
19:53So third down coming up.
19:55Yeah, I think Dennis Allen tonight, he's just continually tried to come up with different ways to just manufacture a little pass rush.
20:05And, you know, with Jaquan Brisker, I mean, he was close, just not able to make a play.
20:11Wendy Damp-Knight, third down and five.
20:14Daniels gets hit low and the pass is incomplete.
20:26And because of that low hit, it's going to be a call against Brisker.
20:35Personal foul.
20:36Welcome to pass to defense number nine.
20:3815-yard penalty.
20:40First down.
20:40Right into the legs of Daniels, who is, well, he looks like he's okay, but limping a bit after this hit by Brisker.
20:49Yeah, you can see Larry McTunsell, the left tackle.
20:52He gives him a little push at the end of this.
20:54I'm not sure that that had a lot to do with him going low.
20:57It's kind of hard to tell.
20:59But it seemed to me, Russell, that Brisker had an opportunity to not take him so low.
21:05I agree, Troy.
21:06It looks like he dives at the legs.
21:09That push may have had a little to do with it, but not enough.
21:13That's on him.
21:13That's a good foul.
21:14That is a fourth time a Bears penalty is given the commander's first down.
21:19Remember, it was a sprained left knee that Daniels suffered in Green Bay that cost him two games.
21:25Second game back.
21:26Hand-off is to Crosby Merritt, and he's met by Tremaine Edmonds.
21:32No game.
21:42And here's the injury week two against the Packers.
21:49And the sprained left knee was the result.
21:52Wearing a brace on that knee.
21:53We talked about that in the first quarter.
21:55He doesn't like it, but I'm sure right now, glad he's got it on.
21:59Second down and 10.
22:01Daniels throws between two receivers.
22:04Jalen Lane and Zach Ertz.
22:06Third and 10.
22:14I couldn't tell if Montez Sweat, I think it was number 98, I couldn't tell if he got a hand on this.
22:20Oh, yeah.
22:20He sure did.
22:21Say, if you don't typically see Jaden Daniels, this guy's quite like that.
22:32Would be a 58-yard drive from here.
22:34Commanders need yards here on third down and 10.
22:38Pressure, trouble.
22:40And Daniels just throws it away.
22:42All kinds of pressure from Montez Sweat.
22:51He was back there.
22:52Dayo O'Dangbo was there, and it's fourth down.
22:55Yeah, they bring a five-man rush.
22:57Just, again, trying to get the ball out of his hands quick.
23:00Maybe they can get home to him and, in effect, you know, what they try to do, but they finally
23:07are able to force him out, and he just has to throw it away, like you said, Joe.
23:11This will be the first Washington punt of the night.
23:16Nice job by the Bears.
23:17Do not give up any yardage on that third down and 10.
23:21Tim Tress Way, trying to pin him deep.
23:27Duvernay with a fair catch.
23:29Fished inside the 10.
23:31ESPN's presentation in the NFL on ABC.
23:34Back after this, from our ABC stations.
23:41Two seconds to go.
23:43We're going to need a miracle now.
23:46Dameron, he's just going to have to let one fly.
23:49Heads towards the end zone.
23:51Just more and more good things happen for the Commanders after that week eight matchup
24:09between these two sides.
24:11Tyreek Stephenson on the left.
24:13We'll get into that in a second.
24:14Jaden Daniels, who threw that 52-yard Hail Mary that was tipped and caught by Noah Brown.
24:21Gave the Commanders the win.
24:23It started a 10-game losing streak for the Bears.
24:30Worst starting field position for Chicago here.
24:33This one is dropped for Komet, and he's able to fight his way for 11 yards at a first down.
24:39Able to drop it right over the defender.
24:41And Cole Komet with a catch and run.
24:44And now Flag is down the far side of the field.
24:51Offside.
24:52Defense number two.
24:53That penalty is declined.
25:00Correction.
25:01The foul is on the offense.
25:03Offense number two.
25:04Lined up in the neutral zone.
25:06It's going to have the distance to the goal.
25:07Still first down.
25:09Well, Caleb Williams, to start that, went to grab a different helmet.
25:13And when he got into the huddle, he just made that completion to Cole Komet for 11 yards.
25:19But D.J. Moore lined up offside for the Chicago Bears at the beginning of the play.
25:24And that wipes away a first down catch by Komet.
25:27Yeah, you just, you can't have it.
25:29You know, when you're in a game like this, Ben Johnson knows it.
25:32It has been something that has plagued them going back to training camp throughout preseason
25:39and into this year.
25:41But, yeah, it's a veteran receiver that knows better than that.
25:46But on guy gets stood up.
25:49And met in the backfield.
25:51A loss of one on the play.
25:53Johnny Newton was in on the tackle.
25:55Wagner, of course.
25:56He's always there on that first and 14.
26:00Jonah Jackson, he gets beat, turns around, he kind of helps make the tackle when it was
26:05all said and done.
26:06But, you know, the way they've run the ball, kind of thought, you know, hey, maybe they
26:10can lean on the run game here and get something going.
26:15Such a great way to start this drive on first down with the completion.
26:19But then immediately get behind the chains with the penalty.
26:23Second down and 16.
26:25From the three.
26:27Williams over the middle.
26:28And now a drop by Zaccheaus.
26:30Wow.
26:32He might still be running if he caught this ball.
26:38This is, everything's perfect except the catch.
26:43It just gets on him.
26:44It hits up on his high shoulder pad, the breastplate.
26:47But here he comes across the field and you can see there's, I mean, it's going to be a foot
26:52race.
26:53There's, there's nobody there on that side of the field.
26:56That's the first drop of the season for Zaccheaus and what a time for that.
26:59And they got locked up on Bobby Wagner and that was one of the areas they were hoping
27:04to isolate him.
27:05They finally are able to do it.
27:09And Zaccheaus just not able to secure the ball.
27:12Blake Clark was about to inspire Zaccheaus with a catch and now he's short of first down
27:17yardage.
27:17With over six and a half to go.
27:21It is fourth down.
27:23Jeremy Reeves with the tackle and the punt team comes on for Ben Johnson.
27:29Boy, if there was ever a time where Corey Taylor needs to just bomb one, this would be it.
27:35Jalen Lane is waiting.
27:38Very dangerous rookie returner for the Commanders.
27:48And he hits a good punt.
27:50Lane from just outside the 30 to the 40.
27:5553-yard punt and a 10-yard return.
28:01And Zaccheaus, you can see him yelling at himself after that drop over on the sideline.
28:06A couple of mistakes on top of many mistakes tonight for the Chicago Bears.
28:11No doubt.
28:11And I mean, a lot of them for the Chicago Bears.
28:14And they just haven't been able to capitalize.
28:16And that was not, obviously, a good possession.
28:20But Olamide Zaccheaus, I mean, like I said, it was the perfect call against a great defense.
28:26And they're just not able to execute it.
28:28So now it comes down to this defense and whether or not they can make another stop
28:33or at least even hold them to three points and leave some time for their offense
28:38to see what they can do.
28:41Krosky Merritt in the backfield.
28:44They marked him down lane at the 39.
28:46And Bill takes it across the 40 and ends up picking up four.
28:51Well, and if you're Washington, you'd like to just keep giving the ball to Bill.
28:55Krosky Merritt and let him run this clock down and methodically move it down the field
29:03and punch it in the end zone and close this game out.
29:07Remember, no Terry McLaurin, no Noah Brown.
29:11Bebo Samuel in this ballgame.
29:14Four catches, just 15 yards.
29:19And yet a two-point lead for Washington.
29:21Daniels is swallowed up and brought down back near the 32.
29:27Dominic Robinson was there.
29:29Jervon Dexter.
29:32And a big play by this Chicago defense.
29:35They're going to give Daniels forward progress.
29:39Back across the 35, it's third and long.
29:42Well, they bring Kyler Gordon off the slot.
29:44And they pick that up, do an excellent job there.
29:47And just leak coverage or leak protection in the middle.
29:51But still with that, it looked like Jaden Daniels, as he slides up,
29:55just not able to go anywhere with the football
29:57and really know where to throw the ball either.
30:00Third down and 13.
30:06Daniels underneath McNichols.
30:09He's got the first down.
30:1115 yards to Jeremy McNichols.
30:21Oh, man.
30:22They rush four.
30:23He's going to come at the late, or excuse me, inside guy.
30:27But they've got seven in coverage.
30:29They drop it off, which is what Chicago wants.
30:32Now you've got to rally to the football.
30:33And he just goes and gets it.
30:35But they did everything perfectly, except rally to the ball
30:40and tackle him short of the first down.
30:44Good effort by McNichols to get 15.
30:47Really good.
30:48Knowing exactly what he had to do once he caught the ball.
30:54McNichols stays in, carries it here, and gets a yard.
30:58Under four to go.
30:59You know, right here, second down.
31:04You know, if you're conservative, you'd say,
31:06well, okay, we'll run the ball again.
31:08But I'm not so sure they do here.
31:10Cliff Kingsbury, I would expect them to throw it.
31:15You missed, right, right.
31:17Yes, yes.
31:18Turn it off.
31:23Hey.
31:28Hey.
31:28Hey.
31:29What's up?
31:32Daniels makes a move, takes off, and dives near the 40.
31:38He's going to be a yard short of first down yardage.
31:41He got eight.
31:43He's going to throw it.
31:44It's a play fake.
31:45He's going to throw it.
31:46Montez Sweat, and this, you just can't defend it.
31:49I mean, he gets up the field.
31:50Sweat does, but it's just Jayden Daniels making a play.
31:54They've got guys out in the route, and as soon as he plants his foot,
31:58he sees that opening and just goes turn, really, there wasn't a lot there into a really positive play.
32:05Bears take a timeout.
32:07And that's their first of this second half before a third down and one.
32:15Bears started this season 0-2.
32:21They got wins at home against Dallas and at Las Vegas.
32:25They're coming off their bye.
32:27They've had opportunity tonight.
32:28They've made mistake after mistake.
32:32Penalties have really hurt him.
32:33At one point, took a touchdown off the board on a catch by a Dunze with their left tackle, Theo Benedett.
32:41Not lining up on the line of scrimmage.
32:44They just had that possession that had a first down eliminated with D.J. Moore lining up offside at the beginning of the play.
32:55So there have been opportunities here tonight for Chicago on the road trying to win their third straight.
33:00Now they try and defend a third and one with two timeouts left in just over three minutes on the clock.
33:07Yeah, the drop by Olamide Zaccheaus as well.
33:10And a lot of self-inflicted issues for Chicago that they've been working through, as I said.
33:19They're coming off the bye week.
33:21Hopefully, you know, maybe that time would allow them to open things up and clean up some things.
33:28And overall hasn't happened.
33:34They're down and one.
33:35Ball's on the ground.
33:37And it's recovered by Nashawn Wright.
33:45And that is takeaway number three for the Chicago defense.
33:51I'm not sure Krosky Merritt ever had it.
33:54The snap was fine, but watch the handoff.
33:58It looked like it was almost thrown into his stomach.
34:01Well, he didn't quite have it yet.
34:03Jayden Daniels never quite had it with, you know, this miss that continues to fall.
34:10And he doesn't have it.
34:13And then Krosky Merritt, he doesn't know what's happening because he never gets it positioned in his belly.
34:19Wow.
34:21So the wet ball, Daniels didn't secure it.
34:27And that is the third turnover tonight by the Commanders.
34:32And there is life for Chicago.
34:34Two timeouts, 3-07 on the clock.
34:37Starting at their own 44.
34:40They hand to Swift and he got two.
34:45And it's worth bringing up again that they do not have Cairo Santos, who's out with that quad strain.
34:52They are playing tonight with Jake Moody as their kicker.
34:56He is three out of four.
34:58Had his last try, 48-yarder come out low.
35:02And it was blocked.
35:04Former third-round pick for the 49ers.
35:07Cut loose on the Bears practice squad.
35:10And acted tonight for the first time.
35:13Second down and eight.
35:15Swift.
35:15Cut down just short of midfield as he gets three by the Commanders.
35:24Preston Smith was in on the stop.
35:30Ron Payne as well.
35:32And we are coming up on the two-minute warning.
35:39Bears hurry to the line.
35:41And we've hit the two-minute warning.
35:47Third down and five when we come back.
35:50Take a break.
35:53As this game hangs in the balance.
35:56It's been a three-take-away night for the Chicago defense.
36:00Given the Bears hope, can they cash in?
36:03They're down and five.
36:11Two downs to get five yards to keep hope alive here for the Chicago Bears.
36:17How would you go about trying to do it?
36:18Yeah, first of all, they're going to have two downs here.
36:21But if you're anticipating man coverage, Joe, I just really think that I like their receivers.
36:28You go with whoever is covering or whoever's lined up opposite Marshawn Lattimore.
36:33That's the matchup that I'd be looking for if you're getting a man look in one-on-one.
36:41Two minutes left.
36:42Two timeouts for Chicago.
36:48You know, considering it is two-down territory, it's not necessarily a passing down.
36:53Williams fires, and he's got a first down to the rookie, Loveland.
37:07Able to secure the catch, gets six.
37:10And the clock continues to run.
37:12Yeah, good job by Loveland.
37:14They don't go man coverage.
37:15They play zone.
37:16Loveland comes off and does a good job of just sitting down
37:19and giving his quarterback an easy target for the first down.
37:24You can see that he just holds the space and put it on him.
37:31Here's a toss to Swift.
37:33Able to dive forward after that initial hit.
37:38And a timeout is taken by Washington.
37:41Their first.
37:44And we'll get a little look ahead and send it to Scott Van Pelt.
37:48Scott.
37:49Joe, thanks very much.
37:50Coming up on the nationwide postgame after the game,
37:53we'll visit with one of the stars of the game inside the winning locker room
37:57for the second week in a row.
37:59That is very much in doubt at this point.
38:01We'll also show you Atlanta's big win over Buffalo.
38:04Joe, Troy, back to you.
38:07All right, Scott.
38:08Thank you.
38:09This is another good one.
38:11Second down and six.
38:13If you're wondering what the career long for Moody is, 57 yards, former third-round pick by the 49ers.
38:22It would be a 59-yard try from here.
38:24And if you're Ben Johnson, you don't even want to see a long field goal try here.
38:29You're trying to get yards.
38:30You're trying to make this as sure a bet as you can.
38:32Yeah, and his career long in the NFL, you're right, Joe, is at 57.
38:38Career long, college, 59.
38:40So he's right there.
38:42But, yeah, Ben Johnson, he doesn't want to see Jake Moody.
38:45He wants this in the end zone.
38:49Second down and six.
38:50Swift over the right side.
38:52Got to the edge.
38:53And goes down with a first down.
38:57And the Commanders spend their second time out.
39:02But a first down pickup on that 10-yard run by DeAndre Swift.
39:06What a big night for number four.
39:08Yeah, and what a good night for this front.
39:10Garnell Wright, good to have him back.
39:12He makes a key block there on the edge.
39:14You've got D.J. Moore, wide receiver.
39:17He's doing the job on the outside as well, which, you know, those are the things you have.
39:22When you're going to run the football the way that the Bears have tonight,
39:24you've got to have all those things working.
39:26And then DeAndre Swift has had his best night in creating some things as well.
39:34Bears led 13 to nothing.
39:39Washington took the lead at 17 to 16.
39:43They've led since now in a two-point game.
39:45And the ball sitting at the Washington 31.
39:57They fake it to Swift.
39:59Williams, out to his left, will slide down.
40:03Smart.
40:04Smart on his part.
40:05They talked about it, you know, in the huddle.
40:07And, you know, they're going to see if they can't get an easy completion, some easy yards.
40:12And good job, Caleb Williams, understanding the situation, staying inbounds to force Washington to burn their last time out.
40:18That's exactly what they did.
40:25Williams with his eyes downfield.
40:27It's not there.
40:28So to the edge he goes and to the grass he goes.
40:31Yeah, so looking at this now, and now he very much wants to see Jake Moody.
40:36So they're going to, they'll play this close to the vest and kind of tee this thing up.
40:41And I'd still like to see him get more.
40:45Boy, I would too.
40:46I mean, I think on a night like this, it's windy, it's wet.
40:50You know, Jake Moody, as I've said three times already, he's a former third-round pick.
40:55But he has been wildly inconsistent in the NFL.
40:59That's why he's no longer a San Francisco 49er.
41:03That's right.
41:04So if you're looking at a field goal, 48, 49 yards, that is not a layoff for Jake Moody.
41:10Right.
41:11So, but what I'm saying is that they're not going to put the ball in harm's way as far as trying to throw it.
41:15I mean, they got a chance to, I mean, they might throw it, but some that's high percentage and see what they can do and get more yardage.
41:23But they're not, I don't anticipate them being overly aggressive because they want to take some time off.
41:29You know, still a lot of time left as well.
41:32It's second down and 12.
41:33They move the ball back a yard with replay assist.
41:37The ball sitting at the 33 now.
41:42Toss to Swift over the right side.
41:44Big play.
41:45And now down inside the 20.
41:49What a night for DeAndre Swift.
41:51And in turn, it may be, what a night for the Chicago Bears.
41:54A run of 15 yards.
41:57And the ball is sitting at the 18.
41:59Well, Darnell Wright, again, leads the way.
42:02He helps make a big block.
42:04DJ Moore, once again, he's out there.
42:06Drew Dahlman, the center.
42:08Number 52.
42:10He's leading the way.
42:11I mean, that's just a lot of guys getting involved in this run game, knowing what's at stake.
42:18Clock continues to run.
42:20Coming up on 30 seconds left.
42:23And now Ben Johnson wants a timeout.
42:28And he's still got one in his pocket.
42:30Talking about Darnell Wright, who was questionable all week.
42:33He did not play in the Bears' last game.
42:37And he's got an injured right elbow, wearing a brace on that right elbow.
42:42But able to go here tonight.
42:44And he's been out leading the charge quite a few times for DeAndre Swift.
42:49Yes, he has.
42:50And they missed him last week, or the game he missed two weeks ago.
42:54They had the bye last week.
42:56But he's been playing well.
42:58You know, their only real issues up front has been at left tackle.
43:02But even Theo Benedett, you know, he got called for the one where he wasn't up on the line of scrimmage.
43:08But overall, his strength is run blocking.
43:10And from what I've seen tonight, he's been really good in that department.
43:23And Caleb Williams will go down at the 20.
43:26And this clock will continue to run.
43:28A loss of two on the play.
43:29Turnover department, it's been Washington's turned it over three times in this game.
43:35The Bears have not turned the ball over.
43:38And this is going to come down to the right foot of Jake Moody.
43:43His first day on the active roster as a Chicago Bear.
43:45He's hit from 47, 48, 41.
43:54The last try, 48-yarder, was low and blocked.
43:58And this will be a 38-yard try for the win.
44:02Yeah, and even in perfect conditions this year, you can't depend on anything.
44:07Here's the one that was blocked.
44:08He came out awfully flat.
44:13Now, this is a much shorter distance.
44:15But in these conditions, as we've already seen with Jayden Daniels trying to, which led to this with the fumble,
44:22anything can happen with the snap and the hold.
44:24All right, three seconds left.
44:36Out goes the ball that's been sitting there on the damp grass.
44:40In comes a kicking ball.
44:43And here is Jake Moody.
44:45Snap a bit high.
44:58Kick is good.
45:01And the Bears win.
45:03Jake Moody, a hero tonight.
45:04The Bears will move to three and two.
45:27The Commanders fall to three and three.
45:28And Moody, in his first night on the active roster for the Bears, kicks four field goals in a one-point win.
45:40Here's the fumble that gave Chicago the opportunity, as Jayden Daniels could not secure the snap, that wet ball.
45:50And now the snap on the field goal.
45:52Try a bit high.
45:53The good place by Torrey Taylor.
45:56And Jake Moody knocks it through from 38 yards out.
46:00Well, whoever didn't win this game was going to walk off this field thinking of all the opportunities that they left out here
46:05and failed to make in order to pull off the win.
46:09Chicago, they were able to get the takeaway at the end after the miscue with Jayden Daniels in the snap.
46:15And to their credit, they were able to run it down here and put it in position for Jake Moody, and he nailed it.
46:20Three wins in a row for Ben Johnson.
46:22And the Bears scored off all three Commanders' turnovers tonight, put up 13 points.
46:30Let's send it down to Laura Rutledge with Caleb Williams.
46:34All right.
46:34Thank you so much, Joe.
46:35Caleb, you just were able to embrace Jake Moody.
46:39What can you say about what you thought when that kick was good?
46:42Yeah.
46:44I really didn't know who he was when he first joined the team.
46:47And then I saw him kick a, like, 65-yarder in practice.
46:51And, you know, for what he was able to do coming here, I know he's had some tough times recently,
46:57but been able to come in here, rainy, windy, all of this, and come through for us.
47:02Proud of him, happy for him, and happy for us as a team.
47:06And you were able to set up that opportunity for him thanks to your defense giving the ball back to you again.
47:11What can you say about their performance tonight?
47:12Yeah, they played a hell of a game.
47:13That's a great offense over there.
47:15Obviously, I know the offensive coordinator, head coach, and obviously the quarterback,
47:19and they got explosive players and things like that.
47:21So for them to be able to hold up and, you know, do their part, you know,
47:24it was only right for us to be able to, you know, have that moment to do ours.
47:27I know there were some mistakes tonight, right?
47:29But what can you say about the way that you guys were able to fight back and get this big win,
47:33now three straight wins?
47:35That's who we are.
47:36We fight.
47:36That's what coach said.
47:38You know, we went 0-2 the first two games.
47:41We tied it back up, went 2-2, and now we're 3-2 because of our fight,
47:45because of, you know, how we face adversity and how we come through and come together.
47:49Congratulations, Caleb.
47:50Thank you.
47:50Let's go to Lisa Salters with Jake Moody.
47:52Thank you, Laura.
47:53Jake, Jake, the most made field goals in a Bears debut.
47:58Just what is this night feeling like to you after the year you got?
48:03I mean, it feels amazing, you know, to get, you know, all that support after the game
48:07from all my teammates.
48:09You know, I got here not too long ago, but for everybody to embrace me and, you know,
48:13take me in as one of their own, it's an amazing feeling.
48:16What were you saying to yourself after things kind of went sideways in San Francisco?
48:22Yeah, I mean, it's always good to have a fresh start, you know,
48:27and I always believed in myself, believed in my teammates,
48:32and, you know, shout out to Scott and Tori.
48:35They made that operation really easy on me.
48:38The same with the O-line up front, protecting great on that last one that
48:41you can't draw it up any better.
48:43You missed an earlier one, so what were you saying to yourself
48:46as you lined up the game winner?
48:48I mean, I like to say you're only as good as your next kick,
48:52so you can't dwell on the past.
48:54You got to move on and focus on the next kick.
48:56This one has to feel pretty good, though.
48:58Yeah, thank you.
48:59Congratulations to you.
49:00Joe.
49:01All right, Lisa.
49:03Jake Moody was cut by San Francisco on September 9th.
49:07He was signed to the practice squad of the Bears on September 12th.
49:12And now here he is tonight, kicking four field goals
49:16and the game winner from 38 yards out.
49:1825-24 the final.
49:20Bears win it.
49:21They're now 3-2, Commanders 3-3.
49:23Monday night postgame presented by Nationwide with SVP starts now.
49:28Joe, thanks.
49:30Coming up over on ESPN, we will visit with one of the stars of the game.
49:35Go all-access inside that winning Chicago Bears locker room.
49:38Visit with Joe and Troy as well on what they saw this evening.
49:42Next on ABC, it is your late local news.
49:44I'm headed over to ESPN right now.
49:46I invite you to join me for all of the postgame coverage.
49:48ESPN, thanks for watching this presentation of the National Football League.
