00:52Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Sophie Fernández from the Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:57We'll begin with the news. Stay with us.
01:14In Vatican City, Saint Peter's Basilica is ready for the canonization ceremony of the first Venezuelan saints,
01:20José Gregorio Hernández and Mother Carmen Grendiles, this Sunday, October 19th.
01:25On the eve of this event, portraits of the blaze were displayed in the facades of Saint Peter's Basilica.
01:31They will remain there for the faithful to see during the solemn Mass to be presided over by Pope Leo XIV.
01:36The ceremony will be a historic milestone.
01:40José Gregorio Hernández, the doctor of the poor, and Mother Carmen Grendiles, founder of the Congregation of the Servants of Jesus,
01:47will become the first Venezuelan saints.
01:50Regarding Dr. Hernández, Pope Leo XIV highlighted his life,
01:54emphasizing how he combined his high medical competence with a deep dedication to the most vulnerable.
01:59Meanwhile in Venezuela, devotees celebrate the historic canonization of Dr. José Rodrigo Hernández,
02:12the doctor of the poor and Carmen Grendiles.
02:15After 76 years of walking the path to sainthood, the Catholic Church elevate Dr. José Gregorio to the altars as Saint José Gregorio Hernández.
02:23In various churches and squares across the country, Venezuelans have gathered for a vigil,
02:29where they are offering prayers and other activities as they want the canonization.
02:33The canonization ceremony will be held in Saint Peter's Basilica, officiated by Pope Leo XIV.
02:39In addition, this ecclesiastical recognition will not only honor the legacy of faith and service of these two figures,
02:46but also marks a transcendental milestone as they are the first Venezuelans blessed to ascend to sainthood.
02:51In Venezuela, faithful believers of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández and mother Carmen Grendiles are preparing for the official canonization ceremony of these Venezuelan blessed individuals.
03:07To be a saint, there's no need to even be born in Trujillo.
03:13The great message that our Dr. José Gregorio Hernández does to everyone regardless, and I believe that we, the residents of Trujillo, we must elevate and multiply this great message to the rest of Venezuela and the world.
03:25I believe the ceremony will take place at 10 o'clock a.m. Vatican official time for 30 a.m. herein is no two.
03:41It is perhaps one of the most important events for the past 150 years in the state of Trujillo.
03:49This is a dream of all Venezuelans, Jose Gregorio is universally known.
03:58But for us Trujillo residents, the land of his birth, it is a moment of great joy, representing reunion, peace, hope, and faith.
04:09After over 70 years of trying, finally witnessing the canonization of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, fills us with great emotion and joy.
04:23We invite all the peoples of the world to join this great global campaign for Jose Gregorio Hernández.
04:39We have achieved it, but that achievement will not stop us.
04:44That achievement will continue.
04:46And we will defeat that which does not serve us as a people.
04:55As part of the events leading up to the canonization of Dr. Jose Gregorio, an image of him will be taken to Bocano, Trujillo State in Venezuela.
05:04The reason why we give thanks to God, and are in this moment officially blessing the image to be taken to Bocano.
05:10It is a historic moment, but also a historic event, not only for the moment the Church and the world are experiencing, but also for the canonization of Dr. Jose Gregorio Hernández.
05:22In other news we go to Colombia, where Senator and President of the Colombia Humana political movement, Gloria Inés Flores Scheiner, condemned the government of the United States' actions against Venezuela in a statement.
05:35The communique begins by saying,
05:37In these hard times where war drums are beating, we in the Caribbean are committed to beating the drums of peace for the dignity and joy of the peoples.
05:46Today, more than ever, the world must raise its voice and firmly reject the threat of military intervention against our sister Republic of Venezuela, and against all of Latin America and the Caribbean.
05:57The statement continues.
05:58The actions of the US government not only constitute a dangerous military escalation in one of the few areas of the world that has been declared a continent of peace, but also violate international public law and international human rights law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, which expressly prohibits attacks on civilian vessels in international waters.
06:19It concludes,
06:20It concludes,
06:21We demand an immediate end to this imperialist aggression, and all forms of interference in the internal affairs of our region.
06:28We do not want to see the CIA destabilizing countries again, nor do we want to relieve dark chapters of Latin American history, such as the Planned Condor, the coup against Allende, the intervention in Grenada, the invasion in El Chorrillo in Panama, Playa Girón, and so many other interventions that left death, dispossession and desolation in the country.
06:49It is urgent to defend the right of the peoples of our America, and the world to sovereignty, self-determination, and peace.
07:03Meanwhile, in Trinidad and Tobago, on behalf of the Assembly of the Peoples of the Caribbean, Assemblymember David Abdullah requested a meeting with the heads of the government of CARICOM to adopt a position regarding the threat posed by the United States military deployment.
07:17I said the Caribbean that we must stand firm, that the Caribbean must remain a zone of peace, that there should be no U.S. intervention. We declared that the sovereignty of the nation states of our region is not and must not be up for sale.
07:35That regional unity and integration are crucial to our development and survival in the context of a changing global order, and therefore call on CARICOM heads of government to meet urgently on this emerging situation and to adopt a unified position against its...
07:53David Abdullah also condemned the alleged creation by the United States of an international coalition to intervene in Venezuela.
08:00...as it is the seed of an alliance of a minority of states in this hemisphere that would be used to create some cloak of legality under the OAS to intervene in Venezuela, as was attempted and failed through the so-called Lima Group.
08:24And we further call on these governments not to allow the U.S. to use their countries as a military staging point to attack any sovereign state.
08:34And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember to join us on TikTok at Telesur English, where you will find news in different formats, news updates and more.

12:09which has been going on for almost three weeks.
12:12This is the third mass mobilization since President Trump's return to the White House.

12:37Meanwhile, hundreds of U.S. citizens gathered in Spain's capital city to condemn President Donald Trump's actions.
