Harvesting Dreams: The rise of a young entrepreneur in Benguet

In the cool highlands of Benguet, tucked along the scenic Labey-Lacamen Provincial Road in Tublay, lies a hidden gem that’s slowly gaining recognition—Polig Farm, also known as Polig’s Berry Farm. What started as a modest family initiative over eight years ago has grown into a thriving destination for berry picking, eco-tourism, and local flavors. At the center of this transformation is Grail Polig, a young entrepreneur and proud daughter of Benguet, who now plays a key role in running the farm’s business and creative side.

00:00Hi, hello, good morning, good evening, another Sunday.
00:30For business mentor talks, alam niyo ba today, Sunday, ay mapakikita natin how a young entrepreneur from Binget was able to help and make a difference.
00:43And so much so that natuto siyang to really help the community and also make the brand.
00:53And in fact, yung kanilang farm ay naging Department of Tourism Certified.
01:00So without further ado, alamin natin, let us hear from Grail Pollig of, again, a young entrepreneur.
01:09Good Sunday to you, Grail. Kamusta ba ang Sunday ngayon?
01:12Yes, sir. Okay naman po, sir. Malamig lang po.
01:17Malamig, no? Alam mo naman, ang binget eh. Parating always on the high side, no?
01:36Anyway, yeah, anyway, Grail.
01:39So yung paano ka nagsimula magnegosyo?
01:42Tell us, how did you start your journey sa entrepreneurship?
01:47Nagsimula po ako, sir, nung high school pa po ako.
01:54Oh.
01:55High school pa.
01:56And then, actually, elementary po kasi may nakikita po akong ano.
02:02So gumagawa po ako. With the help of my father po,
02:13Marshmallow na coated with yung chocolate, deep.
02:30And you're high school, high school, ganun ha?
02:33Nagbibenta ka na.
02:35Bakit mo nakita?
02:37Ang parents mo ba ay entrepreneurs talaga?
02:42Yes, po sir.
02:44Okay.
02:44My mother is po.
02:47Aha.
02:47So I heard that you, gumawa ka ng jam na kinignan ng the sister.
02:55Sina yung sister from Good Shepherd?
03:39So yun po yung ginawa po for her.
03:42Aha.
03:43So kinumbain mo ngayon yung blueberry and honey.
03:47Kasi it will appear as less sugar.
03:50Diba?
03:51Yes.
03:51No sugar.
03:52Almost no sugar.
03:54Kasi natural ano yan.
03:56But ano-ano mga products pa ang din-evelop mo at together with your mother?
04:53But this time, recins strawberry.
04:54Strawberry.
04:55Aba, ang sarap dyan ha.
04:58Nakaka-inspire.
05:13Meron tayong preserve.
05:15Pero, ang mga ito po is least sugar po tayo.
05:20Then, wala po tayong anti-amag na ginagamit.
05:25At saka food coloring.
05:26So, parang sasabi mo talaga, parang sinabi mo grail, talagang all natural ito.
05:34And, ang nasabi mo noon eh, tinesting mo na because you are a family with diabetes.
05:40You are a diabetic family.
05:41So, parang na-test mo na because your father himself was telling na it is effective.
05:50So, tell us more about the polling farm.
05:51I'm really interested kasi everybody is talking about the polling farm.
05:57At yung, ano ang tawag doon?
05:59Yung malaking sa inyo na takure.
06:02No? Yung takure.
06:05A lot of people have been talking about your farm.
06:09It is, ilang hectares ang farm ninyo?
06:12Ang polling farm?
06:34Ah, so, the 3 hectares.
06:36Tell us about ano makikita ngayon ng mga tao sa 3 hectares ng polling farm.
06:40Our future is mga berries po siya.
07:00Pero, meron po kaming steel walk sa may malaking bato.
07:05Wow! Ang galing ah. Ang galing.
07:07So, talagang pinor...
07:08Pero, yung sinabi mo nga makikita yung mga berries.
07:11Eto ba? May strawberry picking?
07:13Ah, or blueberry picking?
07:25Pero, dito pong mismo siya farm, we have the blueberries.
07:29Yung local po.
07:31Masarap naman.
07:32Maliliit po siya sa sa imported.
07:35Pero, mas masarap naman po.
07:37Ah, okay.
07:38Ah, we call it ayusit.
07:41Ito po yung parang natural.
07:43Ah, ah, hindi po siya na...
07:46Anong tawag nito?
07:47Ah, yung parang ano po ng dengue.
07:51Ah, pero meron kang...
07:53Oo.
07:53But, Creel, may nabalitaan na po.
07:55Meron daw kayong century cacao.
07:58Tell us about it.
07:59You know, alam mo sa mga Manila Times viewers natin.
08:03Ano ba yung century cacao?
08:45Wow.
08:46So, ano-anong kinaibahan?
08:47Tell us, ah, how does it taste?
08:49Ah, any difference between a century cacao and a regular cacao?
08:54Meron bang difference talaga, Creel?
09:36This, for our viewers here in Metro Manila and other parts,
09:40ah, eto ba, meron kayong Facebook page?
09:43Ah, meron ba kayong, ah, where they can probably make a booking?
09:49And then, ano ba eh, day trip lang ito, no?
09:50Day trip lang ang visit, no?
09:52Sa, sa Polig Farm.
09:56Okay.
09:56Day trip lang po, sir.
09:58Then, ah, sa Baguio, we are, ah, 21 kilometers away from Baguio.
10:38Ah, so merong, merong pwedeng contact in.
10:42So, pwede bang mag-walk-in din?
10:44Ah, kung halimbawa nasa Baguio na, yeah.
10:49Yes, sir.
10:50Always walk-in po kami, sir.
10:53Ah, okay.
10:54So, I'm sure marami nagpapakuha ng litrato niya sa, ano, no?
10:59Ang takore, no?
11:00Ah, nagiging, nagiging Instagramable na, no?
11:03Nakita ko ka, dami naman ang nagsi-selfie at lahat-lahat.
11:07Anyway, Greil, ano kaya ang mapapayo mo for people who are really starting a business?
11:19Kasi, you grew up in a family and you are able to enhance the community.
11:39So, ang isa po pong may papayo is uniqueness of the products.
11:44Ah.
11:53So, at least, uniqueness of the product.
12:47Sa health, about the health po.
12:51Healthy, healthy innovation and addressing the need of meaning.
12:56Diba?
12:56Kasi, pag medyo may mga bawal, eh, minsan masarap kumain ng bawal, eh, no?
13:02Pero, dapat bawal, diba?
13:04So, I think you're offering an alternative solution.
13:07So, again, Grail, thank you, thank you very much for this short interview.
13:21So, yeah, again, thank you very much for this Sunday morning interview over Manila Times.
13:29Again, thank you, thank you very much.
13:31Have a nice day.
13:32Thank you very much.
13:32God bless.
13:34Okay, bye-bye.
13:35Bye-bye.
14:05Bye-bye.
14:07Bye-bye.
14:09Bye-bye.
14:11Bye-bye.
14:13Bye-bye.
