00:00Welcome to the incredible underdog story of the Indiana Fever's 2025 season.
00:06The Indiana Fever faced significant challenges due to injuries during the 2025 season,
00:11particularly at the point guard position. On August 7 in Phoenix, the team was already
00:15dealing with the absence of all-star point guard Kaitlyn Clark, who was out for the season due to a
00:20groin injury. Compounding their difficulties, both of the Fever's remaining point guards,
00:25Aerie McDonald and Sidney Coulson, suffered injuries that would also end their seasons.
00:30This situation posed a serious threat to the Fever's chances of making the playoffs.
00:34However, the team managed to navigate through this adversity, largely thanks to veteran guard
00:39Odyssey Sims. Shortly after the injuries, Sims signed a hardship contract and played a crucial
00:45role in guiding Indiana not only into the postseason, but also very close to reaching the
00:49WNBA finals. Sims, a former All-Star, had demonstrated her value as a player in the
00:55previous season, starting 11 out of 12 games for the Los Angeles Sparks in the first half
01:00of the season, where she averaged 9.8 points and 3.5 assists per game. Unfortunately, the Sparks
01:06released Sims on July 2, which opened the door for her to join the Fever. The Fever found themselves
01:12in urgent need of reinforcements, and Sims was available to sign. Upon joining the team,
01:17Sims faced a challenging situation as she was tasked with managing the offense, while simultaneously
01:22adapting to a new system and learning to collaborate with unfamiliar teammates. Initially, head coach
01:28Stephanie White utilized Sims as a bench player for two games. However, following two consecutive
01:34losses, she quickly promoted Sims to the starting point guard position out of necessity. Sims embraced
01:40this challenge, making a significant impact in her first start on August 17. In an overtime victory
01:46against Connecticut, she recorded 19 points, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds, playing an impressive 42
01:53out of 45 possible minutes. On August 26, Sims continued to shine, contributing 22 points and 6
02:00assists in a win against Seattle. Just three nights later, she faced the team that had previously released
02:05her, and she was determined to make a statement. In a thrilling finish, she hit a three-pointer to tie the
02:10game in the final minute, and then scored the game-winning floater with just 13.6 seconds left,
02:17securing a crucial 76-75 victory for the Fever. Sims concluded that game with 21 points. Sims recorded
02:256 rebounds and 3 assists during her performance. Although she had a solid regular season, Sims
02:31significantly raised her performance during the playoffs. She scored in double digits in 6 out of
02:368 playoff games, with her scoring average increasing by almost 4 points per game, compared to the
02:42regular season. In the first round of the playoffs, the Fever faced the third-seeded dream in Atlanta
02:48for a decisive Game 3. Sims made a notable impact, contributing 16 points, 8 assists, and 3 steals.
02:56She also assisted Aaliyah Boston for the crucial game-winning shot with just 7.4 seconds left on the clock.
03:04During the semifinals against Las Vegas, Sims scored 17 points in Game 1 and 18 points in Game 4,
03:12helping the Fever secure victories in both matches. In Game 5, with Mitchell leaving the game in the
03:17third quarter and Boston fouling out late in regulation, Sims played a vital role in keeping
03:23the Fever competitive until the end. She led the team, with 27 points, shooting 7 for 14 from the field,
03:30and an impressive 12 for 13 from the free throw line, while also providing 7 assists. The eventual
03:36WNBA champion Aces were the team that eliminated Sims' squad. As the off-season approaches, Sims is
03:43preparing to enter free agency. With 12 years of experience in the league and having played for
03:48six different teams, she demonstrated during her brief but significant time with Indiana that she
03:53remains capable of performing at an elite level. So do you believe Odyssey Sims proved she's still a vital
03:59force in the WNBA?
