00:47a grinded out win
00:48and you know i i understand that a lot of missed opportunities if you saw the game we we had
00:53the
00:53ball inside the 10 yard line five times really didn't do a whole lot and so we have to do
00:58better
00:58in the red area but it's always good to win bill when you look at uh a game like that
01:04where you're
01:05playing in an fcs school um and then obviously the you your following game is against a an acc opponent
01:12is there do you think when you have a game like that where it plays out where i watched the
01:17game
01:17and it was kind of like you know you were missing out on some of our opportunities you sometimes think
01:21that some of the guys might be looking at past the team like maine
01:27you know i think about that all the time um wig when we in all the you know years i've
01:33been coaching
01:34in the different places in college where you know you're playing a a a team that is in a so
01:39-called
01:39lower division i really feel like we had a good week of practice you know i just do i just
01:45think that
01:45like i've told people in the past you know there's a small margin for error no matter who we play
01:51at
01:51boston college we cannot turn it over we have to score touchdowns in the red zone we have to convert
01:57fourth and ones and we didn't do that i don't think it was like a lack of effort or anybody
02:01wasn't
02:02focused on the game i just know that we can play better and it's up to me to get us
02:06to play better
02:07bill wiggy brings up the acc opponent for this week virginia tech they're they're three you know on
02:11the season and they their offense has put up a lot of points in those three games what does your
02:16defense have to do to stop them this week i think we got to limit the passing game you know
02:20what i
02:20mean we have to do a good job of understanding uh they have a really good quarterback uh grunken
02:27meyer who was at penn state and coach franklin brought him to virginia tech they've got uh they've
02:32got a really good tight end who's actually a massachusetts guy uh luke reynolds who's an nfl tight
02:38end really good player kind of like the tyler warren guy they had at penn state and then they
02:42do have good running backs they're very good in the running game and we'll always be able to
02:47challenge the running game we've got to be able to to limit the passing game i think they're averaging
02:52over 300 yards game passing the guy's got seven touchdown passes no interception so you know we've
02:58got to do as good a job as we can with that bill there there may be no one more
03:03qualified than you
03:04to weigh in on this so can can you just help me out because we have had this ongoing debate
03:10and i
03:10know you get to watch here and there you're not looking at film or whatever this ongoing debate
03:14about the new england patriots two weeks in and whether their issues offensively are mostly on drake
03:22may or on josh mcdaniels and whether the play calling is is very conservative what just if you could
03:32from using that that that oc brain of yours uh what are you seeing so far when it comes to
03:39their
03:39issues the one thing that i learned uh from being in the nfl is it's it's very difficult to really
03:48know
03:49who your team is you know really early in the season right and so i have not watched every play
03:56of
03:56every game but i've seen some some of the game you know some of the plays in the games and
04:00things like
04:01that i i believe that every year is different right i just want to i don't want to be too
04:06long-winded here so this year's team is very different than last year's team i mean last year
04:11you know you had you know different guys on the offense you had even i think you had a couple
04:17different guys on the offensive line so it takes a little while to gel i don't there's no way that
04:21i
04:21would josh mcdaniels i will just tell you is is one of the best coaches to ever call plays in
04:27that
04:28league he's got a he if you look at his statistics stats over the years you know he he's an
04:34aggressive
04:34play caller when when it calls for that uh he's someone that really understands defense he knows
04:40how to attack defenses and drake may is an extremely talented guy who who is only in his what third
04:47year
04:47you know so look he's gonna he's gonna develop he's gonna get better and and they're really really
04:53good on defense so they're managing these games and they only allowed three points all you got to
04:58do is score a touchdown and you win that game so in the end i think they're managing the game
05:03and
05:03they're doing what's best for that team bill could you explain to someone who has never been a part of
05:08that offense or been anywhere near an offense that would be in the nfl why it is so difficult for
05:14certain players to know and understand especially at the receiver position the mcdaniels o'brien
05:19patriots passing offense it's difficult it's a great question by the way it's it's difficult
05:26because at the end of the day there are choices to be made at the line of scrimmage
05:31and that just doesn't include the quarterback getting you into the right play it's also like
05:36at wide receiver for example if you have a certain route and they give you a certain look
05:40you know your route might change and you have to think and be on the same page with that quarterback
05:46on every single play that's called and that takes a lot of time that takes a lot of work and
05:52the
05:52new rule well not really new rules but the rules that are in play now in the nfl you don't
05:56get a lot
05:57of off-season time to gel like that and so the patriot so i'll give you an example when we
06:02we signed
06:03ocho cinco in 2011 and i think all of us would agree that ocho cinco was a great football player
06:09in
06:09the nfl we're a very productive player he came from a system in cincinnati where everything was numbered
06:14right so it was 585 628 786 and he was always the first number and so he needed to know
06:21eight routes
06:22and they never changed right these are nine routes they never changed and a nine was a go and eight
06:27was a post the seven was a flag a six was an in cut and on the way down the
06:32line wiggy can understand
06:33what i'm saying yep so then he then he comes to the patriots and it's all words so it's you
06:38know this
06:39you know parachute means this and this word means this and so now you have to and sometimes it's
06:44hard to adjust and and so i think that's something that that josh does a great job of he's an
06:50he's
06:50excellent teacher but it takes a while it takes a while to teach that and i think that um they'll
06:56get it going i i really have a a lot of faith i do think losing a.j brown is
07:00a big deal i really do
07:02because a.j brown is such an awesome player but i do think they'll they'll adapt and they'll adjust
07:08bill there was a video that went around social media from last weekend of what the stadium looked
07:13like uh for the game uh last saturday could you speak on that at all like does that affect your
07:19players that that students may not be showing up for when they run out of the tunnel and when the
07:23game starts and how can you fix that i think that we have to you know we have to win
07:31consistently
07:31courtney you know when i first got here three years ago i was like oh you know you know if
07:36you call
07:36yourself a super fan you got to be in the state well i i do understand look i think the
07:40students
07:41are fantastic i i really do i think the students show up i think we'll have a no matter what
07:46the
07:46weather is on saturday i do think the students will show up but but i also think that we have
07:51to produce a consistently winning program that's fun to watch and so we we we've done that at times
07:57we've been fun to watch like we were you know we had tommy castellanos i believe we were fun to
08:02watch we had you know last year at times we you know we threw the ball around a little little
08:06bit
08:06but then it wasn't very good and so we have to be more consistent with how we play football and
08:12i
08:12think if we do that people will come watch a winner but until we actually are more consistent
08:16and putting out a really good product you'll you'll see crowds like that i'm just that's just my
08:21opinion it's probably a question for somebody above me but i'm i'm usually the one answering the
08:27question so that's just my opinion maybe relax some of those tailgate restrictions over there bill no
08:33greg no question and i'll probably get in trouble for this but like i mean it is unbelievable i mean
08:39even my wife who you know and my son have come to every game i mean they they gotta you
08:45know it's like
08:46they they get checked at this checkpoint then they get checked at this checkpoint then they get checked
08:50at this checkpoint and then the parking lot doesn't open until two hours i mean it's ridiculous
08:55it's absurd you gotta put you have to leave your you have to leave your cooler in the car when

09:01know i know you can't you can't use charcoal like is this i have to have a real id is

09:24college police state police all these it's really it isn't really as much of a fault of boston
09:30college to be honest with you it's kind of all these different law enforcement agencies that get
09:35involved in how we want to tailgate relative to the neighborhood that we're in well we wish you
