00:01This is mad.
00:03At a time where young and old have never been further apart...
00:06I'm going the wrong way.
00:08..six young Brits who have never travelled alone before...
00:11It's nothing like Wales.
00:13..are being paired up with six pensioners
00:15who thought they would never travel again.
00:17You're my team mate!
00:18..to embark on an epic treasure hunt across Japan.
00:21Oh, yes!
00:23Bloody hell, this is going to be hard.
00:25..in a social experiment to challenge assumptions...
00:28..and prove that age is just a number.
00:31She's a bit too old.
00:32I beg your pardon.
00:33..they will need to work together as one.
00:36Colin, you're amazing!
00:38..following clues across the country, they'll take on challenges...
00:41Oh, my God.
00:43Jesus Christ.
00:44..minging.
00:45..combining their experience and strengths...
00:48You're right, it's just like riding a bike.
00:50..to win coins.
00:51Goodbye!
00:52I'm baking like a baked potato.
00:54..collect the most coins and they will walk away
00:56with a life-changing cash prize.
00:5950 grand, guys!
01:0050 grand!
01:01I've never seen that amount in my life.
01:03..come two generations...
01:06I love you so much, Tony.
01:07..worlds apart...
01:09Why do you know that?
01:10TikTok.
01:11..but with so much to offer each other...
01:13I've never taken a selfie in my life.
01:15Really?
01:16..bridge the gap...
01:17What?
01:18She's like the older version of me.
01:19..and work as one.
01:21I can't do that.
01:22Give me up, give me up.
01:23What is this game?
01:25Money isn't everything,
01:26but winning could change her life for the better.
01:30And I really want that for her.
01:36Tokyo, the capital of Japan.
01:39The world's most populated city
01:42and home to over 37 million people.
01:49Making their first steps in this swarming metropolis
01:52are six young Brits.
01:54Never eat shredded wheat.
01:57I've only lived in my little area for 25 years.
02:00I haven't seen outside of Swansea.
02:02Nothing like this is completely different.
02:05Well, I'm left, so I'm going with the left vibes.
02:07Let's go.
02:08Sorry.
02:09Sorry.
02:10How many countries have you been to?
02:12One.
02:14Spain.
02:15Went with my mum.
02:19Head west to Yogi Park.
02:21Look for a place to go if you're caught short.
02:24They're all following clues on an electronic guide.
02:28There's signs.
02:29They're in Japanese.
02:30That will lead them to a pin
02:32identifying the location of their challenges.
02:35I have no idea where I'm going.
02:38Every task they face will test them on their general knowledge.
02:41Half of everything I've never seen in my life before.
02:44As well as their skills of observation.
02:46There's a temple!
02:48So they'll need to take in their surroundings.
02:50I've never seen this many people.
02:52To look out for clues to help them win coins.
02:56But the first treasure they'll have to find is their new team mates.
03:03Six pensioners who are all patiently waiting to be picked up.
03:08And unaware of who they're about to be paired with.
03:11Well, I can't believe that I'm going to be 70.
03:13I don't know what 70 is supposed to feel like.
03:15But I don't feel like it.
03:17Now, is this shot here?
03:20Or down here as well?
03:21Here?
03:22It's from, like, here.
03:23Up.
03:24Yes, so I've propped these up as though I've got them.
03:27As though I've got me a bra on and I haven't.
03:31If I see an opportunity, I'll grab it.
03:34Every time I get a chance to do something,
03:36a new experience, go for it.
03:40Looking forward to meeting my partner.
03:42I hope we're going to have a lot of fun together.
03:44But it's a strange situation not knowing who you're going to meet.
03:53Closest to hunting down his senior team mate is Lawrence,
03:56a 24-year-old HR apprentice.
04:00Hi, sorry.
04:01Do you know Yogi Park?
04:03Oh.
04:05Thank you, thank you.
04:06I'm going the wrong way.
04:07I need to head back this way,
04:09the way I've just come.
04:10It's so different to anything I've been doing, you know?
04:12I've been stuck in an office on a nine-to-five for the last three years
04:15and prior to that, it's like little trips here and there.
04:18I have no idea where to go.
04:19The notification said,
04:21look for a place to go if you're caught short.
04:25Well...
04:28Maybe it's like fishing?
04:30Waiting for Lawrence is 68-year-old widow Rosie.
04:34Push.
04:35Push.
04:36That's not too difficult.
04:37We can do that.
04:39What do we do now?
04:42Oh.
04:43That's clever.
04:45I need my partner to be super intelligent.
04:48Because I'm not.
04:49Super fit.
04:51Because I'm not.
04:52I see tennis court.
04:55So maybe if I'm caught short,
04:57I think I may have got here, guys, possibly,
04:59but I can't see a question mark anywhere.
05:02Travelling, for me,
05:04it means that I can get to speak to people.
05:08Because I sit at home in my bungalow
05:11and don't actually physically talk to somebody for a week,
05:14maybe two weeks at a time.
05:17Are you my teammate, maybe?
05:19I'm Rosie.
05:20Nice to meet you, Lawrence.
05:21Hi, what's your name?
05:22Can I give you a hug?
05:23Yes, I am.
05:25Lawrence.
05:26Yeah, nice to meet you.
05:27Oh, how lovely.
05:28Sit down, Lawrence.
05:29Oh, it's lovely to finally meet you.
05:31I was actually looking for somebody my age.
05:33Oh, no way.
05:34So I thought you was here with maybe, like,
05:35a child or a grandchild, perhaps.
05:37I'm completely unsure.
05:39But I got a clue to tell me to go to Yoyogi Park
05:42and a place to go if I'm caught short.
05:45I had no idea.
05:46I was thinking, like, tennis courts or football, maybe, but...
05:48Caught short.
05:49Toilet.
05:50Oh, wow.
05:51See?
05:52It's clicked.
05:53They're, like, see-through.
05:54I wasn't very academic in school.
05:56Yeah, go ahead.
05:57Let's go see.
05:58Do you want to try...
05:59Hold on to this and I'll run in.
06:00My mum would be, like, dropping me to school
06:02and I wouldn't be going to school.
06:04I would be at the skate park all afternoon.
06:06What do I do?
06:07Use the lock.
06:09Whoa!
06:10That's crazy!
06:11I'm definitely, like, playing catch-up or, like,
06:13trying to get on top of what I'm missing out on so much
06:15as a kid, in a way.
06:16Oh, it's just pinged off again.
06:17Oh, OK.
06:18Go to Chuo.
06:19Chuo?
06:20You were looking for a temple to technology.
06:21Technology?
06:22No idea what that could be.
06:23I've got confidence in you, Lawrence.
06:24Likewise.
06:25So, let's go.
06:26It's not what I expected.
06:27I expected somebody of a similar age to me.
06:28Shall we go?
06:29But he's a lovely man and I'm really happy that we've been paired together.
06:46I've learnt something today, for sure.
06:48Caught yourself short means you need to go to the toilet, which, to be honest, to me,
06:51I never knew that.
06:52So, you know, every day is a learning day.
06:55Fingers crossed we find it.
06:58Searching for her senior team-mate is 18-year-old Emma.
07:03If I had the opportunity, I definitely would have travelled more.
07:06But being in care has definitely helped me back for travelling
07:10because you've got to go through so many people just to go anywhere.
07:12Like, if I went missing, even for a day, they would call the police,
07:15like, straight away.
07:17Waiting to be found is 69-year-old Tony, a retired doctor.
07:23My life has changed in the last few years.
07:25Sadly, my marriage came to an end, so I am now making a new life
07:30and meeting new people.
07:32And travelling is part of that.
07:34And having this opportunity says to me, life is to be lived.
07:38Hello.
07:39Hello.
07:40We meet at last.
07:41We meet at last.
07:42How are you?
07:43Yes, absolutely.
07:44Lovely to meet you.
07:45You are?
07:46And Emma.
07:47And I'm Tony.
07:48Hi, Tony.
07:49From Manchester.
07:50Manchester.
07:51Blackpool.
07:52Northerners together.
07:53Northerners together for life.
07:54First impression is that he's a very lovely person.
07:57He's not what I expected, so I'm hoping that he knows the stuff
07:59that I don't know.
08:01Oh, shall we see what we've got?
08:03Yeah, go on.
08:04Welcome to Japan.
08:05Here are some rules to live by.
08:07Like all of the teams, they've been given a device
08:10to help them navigate their journey in Japan.
08:13Be prepared to bow out a lot.
08:16She's a great personality and she's very enthusiastic,
08:20so I hope that she can bring us the success that we're looking for.
08:24Find the Hagiwara building in Ebizu.
08:28Get ready for a meal to remember.
08:30To remember.
08:31Wow.
08:32Oh, okay, so we're eating.
08:33So, is it that way or is it that way?
08:35I'm going to say left.
08:36Go on, let's go.
08:37Let's go for left.
08:40Excuse me.
08:41Hi.
08:42Excuse me.
08:43Excuse me.
08:44Harupu.
08:45But I've never been here before and I can't speak Japanese either.
08:47Konnichiwa.
08:48Probably that's it.
08:49Pretty sure that means hello.
08:50Don't quote me on that, but I'm pretty sure it does.
08:53.
08:54.
08:55I'm not going to be here.
08:56Oh, I'm going to be around.
08:57Ah.
08:58Right, we'll try again.
08:59Everyone's in a rush, everyone's busy.
09:00Yeah.
09:01They're all very friendly.
09:02Let's try and find someone who, erm,
09:03isn't off to work.
09:04Whenever I've got my mind of something,
09:06I'll definitely push for it
09:07and do every single route that I possibly can to get to it.
09:09Excuse me.
09:10Excuse me.
09:11Excuse me.
09:12Excuse me.
09:13pretty sure it does we have to find this place we don't know how to pronounce it
09:17okay genuinely as soon as I step out the door I'm lost really you know I think no
09:26matter where I am I'm gonna be lost you speak English you are here yeah I guess
09:38we have to find a temple don't know about what you think but to me a temple to technology says
09:45an apple store ah now that is a good idea I was thinking an actual temple I think it's
09:55round to the left oh yeah on the other side of town first to find their challenge destination
10:00are Tony and Emma well it's right there the key to success for this pair will be found in a nine
10:07course tasting menu served up in traditional Japanese crockery minazuki tofu served in a
10:15kabachi bowl so they'll need to pay close attention to everything they're presented with Japanese sake
10:21throughout the meal I'm guessing that's the cup you're gonna drink it out cheers so how are you
10:28feeling about being so far away from home you know what I haven't really had a home that makes sense
10:35that like a place to call mine so I don't know how I feel about missing home and I grew up in foster
10:39care so when I was eight I went into care for the first time I don't really know why I went into care
10:47because it can always happen like the police were there I got put in a car and then I was in a random
10:51strangers house for Christmas it was it was all a lot my mom was a single mom it was just her and us so if
10:59like she didn't really know how to handle all like trying to get a job but also having to be of us all
11:05the time I had to look after my siblings when she was at work so it was it was a lot in that sense but
11:12I would say that was probably a little bit of the reason why we're into care there was were you well
11:16looked after I had actually had a male carer called Tony oh right and then any chemical mark who you
11:23remind me quite a lot of actually I moved around quite a lot and how did that affect you and I feel
11:30like they didn't get to know me enough I needed that family moment of just getting to grow up and
11:36being looked after for a little while I'm sure that whole experience must have been extremely difficult
11:44difficult for you talk about us coming from completely different worlds meeting somebody
11:51who's come up through foster care and the breakup of her family and everything and I think she's
11:59amazingly resilient as a result of it and I feel deeply for her that you know she's got that to
12:05contend with so I'm I'm feeling much more motivated now towards wanting to do well oh can you find the
12:13following swamic dishes in the flea market so wait a minute these are things we've just eaten
12:18all right so we need to move on we'd find the flea market with most of the young Brits still struggling
12:27to hunt down their teammates where the bloody hell is this place like technology store Rosie and Lawrence
12:34have tracked down their pin at a super-sized electronics store now this looks like a technology
12:40store in a city renowned for its electronic innovation that's good yeah that's good it's
12:47giving my legs a little bit of a cuddle the pair will need to combine their knowledge of technology
12:55can you match the device to the year it was first released for each correct match you will receive a coin
13:09Rosie and Lawrence will need to use their years of experience to match five different Japanese
13:14electronic devices to the year they were released that's actually quite difficult there's the pioneering
13:23Game Boy Canon's first 35 millimeter compact camera the Tamagotchi virtual pet Sony's first portable CD player and the Nintendo Wii
13:34age might come into play here possibly what do you think I can't say that my age would help in this game because I have no idea I wouldn't know the years for sure I wouldn't want my partner to be indecisive because I'm like really indecisive myself so I think if like they didn't know and I didn't know we'll just be stood there lost like completely so yeah hopefully someone is good at making decisions
13:57um Game Boy so it could be one of them two maybe
14:07I think this might be where it was supposed to be
14:09yeah you think oh my god
14:11six miles away at the Shibuya market Tony and Emma are hunting out ceramic dishes from their nine course tasting menu
14:18this is so hard isn't it yeah we didn't pay enough attention did we each item they correctly identify will help them secure their stay in Japan and their chance of winning a life-changing prize
14:32wait this is the bowl that we had the chicken soup in yes I think we're happy with that on 100% happy that it was deep it was fake
14:41I am very competitive if I lose I hate life I want to I always want to be the winner of everything I at least don't want to be the first person eliminated that's it that's all I'm asking for
14:55I'm stressed out like it's actually making me itch
14:58I think the sake came in something like that
15:02I would say if they wanted the sake it would be this one
15:05I honestly don't know I wish I'd paid more attention to the menu because I'm realising that what we're being asked to look for is the crockery that was used but I don't want to go home
15:19you wasn't even born in these years were you not even 2006 or you were born in 2000
15:262000 so that's the only one that's in your lifetime
15:30back in the tech store Rosie and Lawrence are still trying to work out which year each electronic item was released
15:37yeah cameras have been around longer than all of this
15:40oh yeah that's it so camera here
15:41just like Tony and Emma every successful answer will help extend their journey in Japan and bring them closer to the 50,000 pound prize
15:52if I was to win the money I it would be life-changing you know that's
15:57like most people's yearly salary and this time of what you think my daughter was born in 1975
16:0585 so she'd be 14 right so I think most do the other way around
16:11for every item they've correctly paired with its year of release they will earn a coin
16:16I mean I'm happy with this if you're happy with it I'm happy with this the team with the least amount of coins at the end of each city challenge will be eliminated from the competition
16:25correct that was clever
16:31oh that's all
16:36oh
16:48I think it was the Tamagotchi thing that I couldn't see my daughter being 21
16:54and having one of those I still can't see that we could have had three coins you know and we slipped up on the last one with like the Tamagotchi
17:02the fact we got to like it is quite saddening in a way you know like we could be going home tomorrow effectively but I guess what can we do you know
17:10the next one we will smash it for sure yes 100% definitely 100%
17:15ah
17:16this wasn't the this is what we had I know but it doesn't usually rest inside it's usually a tight seal and that's kind of just
17:22no it didn't it did
17:24right but that could be an option
17:26back at the flea market Tony and Emma are trying to remember the dishes they were served lunch in at the local restaurant
17:33I'm excited but I'm also very nervous but I can't tell if that's my stomach because of the eating or if I'm actually nervous
17:39I'm baking like a baked potato
17:41do you want to lock in the sake
17:43do you
17:44I think so
17:45okay
17:46can we get this please
17:47okay
17:48thank you
17:50right
17:51I'm not feeling supremely confident that if we've scored maybe three out of the five that I think we'll stand a chance of staying in
17:59well that's one
18:02we did it
18:03this is so nerve-wracking
18:05oh my god
18:07no
18:11no
18:12no
18:13oh no
18:15panicking now
18:18we scored two out of five and I know that we both feel disappointed
18:23I think on the positive side we made the decisions jointly but we're still here and we hope that we're not in the bottom one
18:39in the bustling metropolis of Tokyo Japan
18:42this district
18:43a treasure hunt to win a £50,000 cash prize has already begun
18:48stop
18:50to win challenges teammates who have never met before and are from vastly different generations
18:55will have to work together as one and share their knowledge to complete each task
19:00my ideal partner would be
19:03someone who has a sense of humour
19:07intelligent
19:08they have to have a good work ethic
19:10a fit gay man
19:15do you know where your yogi park is?
19:20no English
19:21searching for her senior teammate is Katie a 21 year old from Warrington
19:26the main reason I haven't travelled is because of money
19:30I think because I grew up with not a lot of money
19:32I like to know that I've got enough to keep you going
19:35a question mark
19:37that is what I'm looking for
19:39I am a community support worker
19:41I'm working with older people
19:43I absolutely love my job
19:46they're so lovely as well
19:47I'm very honest
19:49obviously there's people passing away but
19:52you get to experience a piece of them before it happens
19:55waiting to be found in the centre of the city
20:01is 80 year old widow Barbara
20:04this is the first time I've travelled alone
20:08I love getting out and about
20:11but the thing that I miss is
20:15when I come back
20:16there's no one there at home to tell
20:19you know where I've been, what I've done
20:22I was married for 47 years
20:26and Colin and I loved travel
20:30since Colin has passed
20:33my children have said to me
20:36why don't you try travelling solo
20:39but erm
20:40I just hadn't got the confidence
20:43oh
20:46hello
20:51hi you alright
20:52hello
20:53I'm Kate can I give you a hug
20:54hopefully I won't bend down
20:56because I'll end up flashing someone back
20:57hi you're fine
20:58yes thank you
21:00have you had a long trip
21:01well
21:02it's been fine
21:03I love your eyelashes
21:05that'll be good aren't they
21:06good
21:07they're amazing
21:08I love this top
21:09this is amazing
21:09god bless you
21:10shall we have a little sit down
21:11I think so yes
21:13I can't believe I'm here
21:15I really can't believe it
21:16I know it's surreal
21:16I've never been on holiday before
21:18so I had no clothes
21:19this is my mum's
21:21oh you look amazing
21:22thank you
21:23well not as nice as you
21:24oh
21:24she's absolutely great isn't she

21:28she is amazing
21:32I mean that now
21:33she's amazing
21:34and she's my type of gal
21:36oh we have a message
21:39head to
21:40Sumida
21:41and look the path
21:43to enlightenment
21:45come on then
21:46while Barbara and Katie's treasure hunt begins
21:52whoa
21:53feel like I'm in like
21:54Kung Fu Panda

24:42in one of Tokyo's popular sushi restaurants
24:45oh

24:53how'd you know that?
24:54TikTok
24:55oh I'm not the TikTok generation
24:58for their first challenge
25:00they'll need to keep an eye on what the sushi looks like
25:04rather than what it tastes like
25:06me and my mates
25:08we're big foodies
25:09like we love food
25:10what is this?
25:13what did we order?

26:03it was minging
26:0413 miles away
26:08Barbara and Katie have finally found their path to enlightenment
26:11and the location for their first challenge
26:14it was obvious
26:16they'll need to immerse themselves in the ancient teachings of Buddha
26:20do we have to bow?
26:22I can just do a little bow
26:23to win coins and stay in the treasure hunt
26:26what are the birds?

26:41and which are Hollywood movie quotes
26:44get busy living or get busy dying
26:53with great power comes great responsibility
26:57I don't know
27:00I really thought I'd remember a lot of phrases and this that and the other
27:06but when you're placed in this position it's not how you imagined
27:11you know I do tend to forget
27:13what's what
27:15in terms of a Buddhist mind though
27:18would power be admired?
27:24I don't know
27:24I don't know
27:25back at the sushi restaurant
27:28oh
27:29Val and Aaron are about to compete in their first challenge
27:32can you tell real sushi from fake sushi?
27:36for every real dish you correctly identify
27:39you will win one coin
27:42in restaurant windows across Tokyo
27:46ultra realistic plastic models of their dishes are displayed to tempting hungry diners
27:52there we go
27:54to bring the pair closer to the £50,000 prize
27:58they must identify which sushi dish is real and which is a display version
28:03they can look at each plate but they aren't allowed to touch them

28:20really?
28:20yeah the one that was here
28:22is that that colour?
28:23it's all new to me
28:25but I am a quick thinker
28:26or I used to be
28:27I'm able to kind of see things
28:30and decide quickly
28:32whether it's the right decision
28:34who knows
28:34but
28:35I thought it was yellow
28:37no coin
28:42damn it
28:43I'm okay
28:44okay
28:44we've got to lock the colour in this time
28:47okay

29:55the miracle is not to walk on water
29:59the miracle is to walk on this
30:01back at the ancient temple
30:04Barbara and Katie are still trying to work out which of the quotes are Buddhist proverbs
30:09I reckon this is Buddhism you know why?
30:13the miracle
30:14yeah
30:14not to walk on water
30:16that's Christianity
30:17every correct answer will earn them a coin
30:20and further their chance of remaining in the competition
30:23my brain is just racing
30:25the miracle is to walk on earth
30:28that's Buddhism
30:29I reckon Barbara would do it
30:31she must know something
30:32definitely knows something
30:34something more than me anyways
30:36get busy living or get busy dying
30:38I don't think they would purposely bring up dying
30:41final answer
30:44fingers crossed my darling
30:45no we've got this
30:46maybe work
30:54oh it's five

31:02we got all of them right
31:03oh I'm in the bedroom
31:06thank you we got them all right
31:09we got five coins
31:12I definitely trust Barbara
31:14she's a very intelligent woman
31:16Oh, they're winning!
31:18Oh, I feel like crying. I'm so proud of us.
31:21I hope it's not a false start.
31:24I hope, you know, the winning, if you like, will continue,
31:27but we can only do it at this.
31:40I think I'm looking for a question mark, I think.
31:43In the heart of Tokyo City...
31:46Do you speak English? No English.
31:49..the final two young Brits are still looking for their neat team-mates
31:53to begin a treasure hunt together across Japan.
31:56Tokyo is crazy.
31:58Like, I've never seen anything like it in my entire life.
32:00It's so different to Swansea.
32:02To win challenges and a £50,000 cash prize,
32:06they'll have to work together and share their knowledge.
32:09I don't know west, north, south, east, somewhere.
32:12On the verge of tracking down her new companion
32:15is 25-year-old Charlotte.
32:17I work in Asda on the check-out,
32:20which is not the best job in the world,
32:21but it does pay the bills.
32:23So pretty! Oh, my goodness!
32:25I always get told off because I chat too long
32:28and my scan speeds go drastically low,
32:30and I've always got the queue, it's, like, the back of the aisles.
32:33Find a way to cross the tracks.
32:36Busy, busy train station.
32:38A lot of my money is to take care of my parents,
32:41take care of my parents' disability,
32:43do everything for them.
32:45Please be obvious.
32:47I can only do obvious.
32:49I'm supposed to win this.
32:50I would buy my mother an electric wheelchair
32:52because I don't want to push her around forever.
32:54Do you know what I mean?
32:54It's knackering.
33:00Waiting to be picked up by his junior team-mate
33:02is 73-year-old Colin.
33:04I think a lot of the younger people think we're useless.
33:35We've had our time, we've passed it.
33:38What are we still doing here?
33:39So is that your suitcase?
33:40It is.
33:41No, that's mine, yeah.
33:42What is it?
33:43It's an antique.
33:44Oh, wow!
33:45A bit like me, but, you know.
33:46Oh, no!
33:47How old would you, if you don't mind me asking?
33:4873.
33:49You don't look 73.
33:51You look very young.
33:52Oh, my goodness, he's the cutest guy ever.
33:54He's got a giant suitcase with him.
33:56He gave me, like, a giant hug when I met him,
33:58which instantly, good vibes.
34:00Head to Takashita.
34:03Take a shit.
34:04OK, Takashita Street.
34:07Look for someone dressed to impress.
34:10I think we're the dream team.
34:11I think we're going to smash this competition.
34:13Takashita Street.
34:16I've done really well getting her as a team-mate.
34:19We're so friendly and bubbly.
34:21We'll be really good together.
34:26Last to find his new partner is 19-year-old Tende.
34:30I feel like I've seen this place, like, on TikTok or something.
34:34I have never been traveling without my dad or without my mom.
34:38Um, I thought, like, this could be an amazing opportunity
34:42to get the chance to try and do things by myself and for myself.
34:47Uh, it's, it's supposed to, do any of you speak English?
34:52Oh, no?
34:54No.
34:54Is there any, like, river or, like, water near here?
34:58Water?
34:59Water?
34:59Water?
34:59Water?
35:02Waiting patiently is 73-year-old karaoke host, Julie.
35:08I hope whoever I'm partnered with has got the energy to keep up with me.
35:11The adrenaline junkie in me, doesn't matter how old I am,
35:14wants to do something exciting.
35:16I'm full of joie de vivre, which means the joy of life, in French.
35:22Hi!
35:23Hi!
35:25How are you?
35:26I'm good.
35:27I'm cool.
35:28I'm Julie.
35:29I'm Tendi.
35:32How old do you think I am?
35:33Gotta be 19, 20, yeah?
35:36Yeah, I'm 19.
35:37I'm 73 in a, in a 20-year-old's body.
35:40Yeah.
35:42She said she was 73.
35:43She seemed, like, a lot younger.
35:45I feel like she has more energy than me.
35:47It's quite small.
35:48Oh.
35:48Go to Chofu.
35:51Look for a place where you can go nowhere fast.
35:54Nowhere fast, I'm thinking transport.
35:56Hmm.
35:57OK.
35:59I think we'll work well as a team.
36:01We're going to have a good sense of humour,
36:04and that always helps when you're doing anything to laugh.
36:07On the other side of the city, Colin and Charlotte are heading towards the location for their first challenge.
36:17Have you been anywhere like this before?
36:18Never.
36:19This is, like, completely out of my culture zone.
36:22Yeah.
36:22Crazy.
36:23Oh, I think Charlotte's amazing.
36:26She's not what I thought young people were.
36:29Young person these days is someone who walks around with a hand like that, and the phone is there.
36:36And when they're not doing that, they're sat at home on the computers doing this social media stuff.
36:43Everyone's so smart, aren't you?
36:45You're going to keep your eyes open, haven't you?
36:47Yeah.
36:47Oh, my God, the question back!
36:50Hi!
36:51Hello!
36:52Nice to meet you.
36:53Nice to meet you.
36:54Niko.
36:55Niko.
36:56Nice to meet you.
36:57Niko.
36:58Let's go.
36:59having found someone who's dressed to impress the duo are about to get their
37:04first taste of kawaii culture a famous Japanese trend centered around embracing
37:11cuteness that influenced the design of emojis the new teammates will be tested
37:18on their collective knowledge of these digital icons in their first challenge
37:24can you figure out which idiom the emojis represent what's an idiom first
37:31question I hated school it's the worst ever I had four GCSEs though and one of
37:37them was drama so I'm proud of that idioms a group of words put together that
37:43can give something a meaning it's like a catchphrase sort of thing okay oh thanks
37:49call I got it now I hope for every emoji idiom the pair correctly identify they
37:57will win a coin and be a step closer to the 50,000 pound prize
38:03oh thank you so much thank you it's beautiful I think we're all right with this one do you think I
38:26got it storming a teacup unlock that one in yeah God for you is that like
38:42Viking Stadium on the outskirts of the city and then turn right and turn right
38:48Julian 10 day are hoping to close in on their challenge location a place to go
38:53nowhere fast one of a few velodromes located in the city the Tokyo Oval Keokaku is
39:04home to the Japanese national cycling obsession Kirin do you look through these
39:12in every race to help gamblers identify riders their shirt color and number are
39:21always the same unbeknownst to Julian 10 day this is the key to winning coins in their challenge go
39:28for it go for it away from the track they'll need to put their combined memories to the test
39:34to pair the riders numbers with the correct colors we both have got different strengths I'm
39:41sure he's got youth on his side and I've got experience on mine so hopefully that'll gel well
39:47for each number and color they match they'll win a coin and a better chance of continuing their journey
39:53together in Japan red was three black was two at the end of every city challenge the pair with the
40:02least amount of coins will be sent packing green came third and it was seven three six so it has to
40:10be six which leaves five yellow I'm happy with that are you happy with that yeah oh my gosh
40:25sure turn I got the last one despite a strong start clap in a mask Colin and Charlotte are struggling to
40:34work out the meaning of their third emoji idiom that single could be praying that's what I'm
40:39thinking that's a disguise at the end yeah I think that's to do with praying so it could be a prayer in
40:45disguise oh that actually sounds good blessing in this guy lesson in this car of course it is car
40:56yeah that's it never mind we'll get the next one we'll get the next hundred percent in my day there
41:03was no technology we didn't have mobile phones computers didn't exist I'm out of my depth with a lot
41:09of technology as most people my age are doctor something is cast maybe I'm not up to date with
41:19emojis I've seen them but I don't know what they are afterwards you look at the answer anything I
41:25should have got that but at the time your brain just doesn't take it in I should break yeah I wish we
41:32go catch a break after an epic treasure hunt across Tokyo two of the six teams have only won two coins
41:49and are under threat of leaving Japan add insult to injury never would have got that wouldn't you know
41:57that's not even a catcher is called Jeremy so the outcome of Colin and Charlotte's emoji game and
42:03Julie and 10 days Kieran challenge is crucial to their fate I'm happy with that are you happy with that
42:11yeah when it comes to challenges I'm very competitive
42:27if I always want to win I have to say to me there's no point in going in for something if
42:37you don't want to win it I'm very excited to have won five out of five my biggest fear was being the
42:51first ones to leave so hopefully it doesn't happen I can't do that
43:04money muscle leg back in the Harajuku district Colin and Charlotte have got one more chance to
43:11increase their coin total from the current lowest score of two
43:15cash muscle leg cost an arm and a leg Colin you're amazing
43:23Colin is amazing oh my goodness he's hooked the rope on this one and I kind of like sat back and watched
43:36you'll carry us through I think thanks
43:39you're amazing I'm hoping three coins are enough to keep us in the game because we're
43:45not ready to go home yet we're enjoying ourselves too much
43:48here we go oh my goodness having done all they can in Tokyo all six teams must now meet to discover
43:59which intergenerational duo has won the least amount of coins and we'll be out of the running for 50,000 pounds
44:06all right we worked hard for those honestly I think we've done so well yeah we got this yeah
44:14I think we're doing none of the teams yet know how many coins their rivals have won
44:20going into the coin count today I'm feeling very um nervous because we have no idea what everyone else
44:26has got we really really want to stay we don't want to go home we know somebody's got to go but
44:32we don't want it to be us hello okay look at you have been free do you want to see how many we've
44:38got yeah yeah grand reveal one two oh wow Val and Aaron are next to show their hand of four four that's
44:54amazing i'm feeling a bit nervous now followed by julian tende no way you've got five
45:02and barbara and katie with a full five coins
45:10as things stand at the moment two fives a four a three and a two so obviously we are in the in the
45:17danger zone at the moment last to reveal their coins are rosie and lawrence if if we went home
45:29i would actually be gutted oh wow we want to stay we do want to stay so hopefully yeah
45:35one right two
45:49and that's us okay so you've got the same
45:55so there's a chance like you might be going home
45:58when i saw all the coins on the table i was literally gobsmacked oh
46:12rosie and lawrence tony and emma you are the teens with the fewest coins
46:20those with the fewest coins are at risk of having their adventure cut short savage
46:33the first team to leave japan
46:36i do not want to go out
46:39will not be judged on one game alone what
46:42your coins will roll over to the next destination nobody will be going home today
46:57now all of you pack your bags because kyoto is calling
47:03all of a sudden it's i just felt elated that we weren't going to be going home after the first
47:15challenge we'll be there for each other obviously and yeah we're off to kyoto so we can just make the
47:21most of that i love him i just love how positive he is it's absolutely wonderful yeah with the competition
47:28well underway let's go the treasure hunt continues
47:32aaron hang on hang on
47:36spanning the far reaches of japan never quite seen anything like it
