00:00So, Nick Valtemada is salancing the Doubters one game and one goal at a time.
00:05Now, of course, he's impressed since he's come to Newcastle.
00:08You know, I think Newcastle United fans, the vast majority were willing to give him a shot.
00:12Big money move from Stuttgart, of course, and not too much football behind him.
00:16So, it was a risk for Newcastle United, but we all know, watching him from his debut against Wolves
00:21to the last game against Nottingham Forest, how well he's settled in at Newcastle,
00:25how much he's impressed.
00:26You know, just thinking back to the goals, he scored two headers, brilliant headers, really.
00:31That flick against Union Sandro was, will not get the attention it deserves.
00:35I think people have already forgot about it.
00:36That was brilliant.
00:37And, of course, the penalty against Nottingham Forest, absolutely fantastic.
00:41But there were, or there have been, doubters from Germany about the money Newcastle paid.
00:45A lot of those doubts, those criticisms came from Bayern Munich.
00:48I think the fact that they missed out on a player that they tracked and probably believed that they just,
00:52I would guess, Bayern would assume that they sort of would guarantee to sign him.
00:57But, of course, Newcastle swooped for him, got that deal over the line.
01:00And whilst he's impressed in England, there has been dealt as in Germany.
01:03And before last night, so Monday night, he hadn't actually scored for the Germany national team.
01:08He impressed greatly during the under-21s in the summer, during the under-21 Euros,
01:13but hadn't got that first goal for the national team, the senior national team.
01:16But he did that against Northern Ireland with yet another header.
01:20I say header.
01:21It did come off his shoulder.
01:22It was a corner in and he got in front of his man and it did come off this part of his shoulder.
01:28The VAR checked it whether it was handball.
01:30It was, they said it wasn't handball and the goal counted.
01:34So, you know, it was a striker's goal.
01:37Was it the most conventional?
01:38Did it come directly off his head?
01:39No.
01:39But it doesn't matter how the ball goes in the net.
01:41Of course not.
01:42And you want your striker, especially a tall man like Volker Marder, to be getting in those positions,
01:46getting above his defender and getting that first contact.
01:48And that's exactly what he did for that goal.
01:50And it was an important goal as it meant, you know, give Germany the win in a really important match.
01:55Heading into that game, they had Germany, Slovakia and Northern Ireland all on six points from three games.
02:01So that goal has helped really give Germany the march on the other teams in that group
02:06and puts their destiny to qualify for next summer's World Cup.
02:09But one, Volker Marder will, of course, be desperate at playing in their own hands.
02:13So whether those complaints from Germany die down after that goal, I'm not sure.
02:17You know, I think that they probably hold him to a really high standard
02:20and maybe he'll have to do more for the national team before those doubts
02:24and before those criticisms sort of reduce.
02:26But right now, we all know, as Newcastle United journalists, as fans,
02:30how special of a talent Volker Marder is
02:32and how well he's adapted to life in the Premier League so far.
02:35He's obviously got a lot more to go, build his fitness levels and all that.
02:39But it's really exciting times for him, for Newcastle United fans.
02:42And of course, hopefully, Johan Visser can come back if it's not before the next international break
02:48and certainly after, before the busy, you know, run of festive fixtures.
02:52If they can have him back in the team to not just play instead of Volta Marder
02:57and give Volta Marder the break he needs, but actually to play with Volta Marder.
03:00We all know how well he likes to link up and we've seen that in glimpses.
03:03We can get Johan Visser in around him as well.
03:05Well, that'll be fantastic.
03:06But yeah, Volta Marder just game after game impressing.
03:09And whatever he seems to touch, you know, goes to goalings now.
03:12And it's brilliant to see.
03:13And hopefully, long may that continue, especially the weekend against Bryan
03:18because that's a very difficult game for Newcastle United.
03:20It has been a notoriously difficult place for them to go to.
03:23And hopefully, he can hit the ground running then,
03:25especially with the Champions League game against Benfica to come as well on Tuesday.
03:29And the best way you can stay up to date with all the latest negativity in news
03:31before those games and after those games and everything in between
03:35is, of course, with the Shields Gazette.
