00:00We do have some news.
00:01Kyle Shanahan is speaking on his conference call right now on Fred Warner.
00:05He has confirmed it is both a fractured and dislocated ankle.
00:09Surgery is set for tomorrow.
00:11When asked about a timetable for return, he said we're not expecting this year.
00:15On Ricky Pearsall, who did not play again,
00:18he said they're still evaluating the knee.
00:20On Brock Purdy, he said he's hopeful to get him to do more in practice this week.
00:25On George Kittle, he said that the team hopes he returns to practice this week.
00:32That's all the big stuff.
00:33Hopefully he returns to practice.
00:34Okay.
00:37And I'm also being told, we'll look this up,
00:39but did Schefter report that Kittle is expected back this week?
00:44Yeah.
00:45Shanahan says he's hopeful.
00:47Hopeful or expecting?
00:48Those are two very different words.
00:50I heard Shanahan say hopeful.
00:52Okay.
00:52Hang on.
00:53According to sources.
00:56Go to Adam Schefter's Twitter.
00:57Adam Schefter's Twitter says Kyle Shanahan said he expects George Kittle
01:03to return to practice this week ahead of Sunday's game.
01:07Okay.
01:07Practice.
01:08Right.
01:09We're talking about practice.
01:10I guess that's the expectation, and they're hoping that it stays that way.
01:13Okay.
01:14Okay.
01:14Yeah.
01:20My guess would be Purdy and Kittle both play.
01:23You think Purdy's going to play?
01:24Yes.
01:25That's my Monday prediction.
01:27Is this your Monday morning quarterback?
01:28Yeah, it is, and it has nothing to do with Mac Jones.
01:31It has everything to do with the fact that Brock Purdy was able to run around a little bit last week,
01:37and I do think that he's in a better spot, and I think he's closer to being able to play,
01:42and I think he's going to play.
01:44And even if he doesn't, you're 4-2.
01:46You're tied for first in the division, and you are still having a great year, no matter what is happening.
01:53One-third of the year is done.
01:55Six weeks down, 12 weeks to go.
01:57There's no urgency yet about anything.
02:01You'd love to beat Atlanta, of course, but you have the Rams the next week.
02:05No.
02:06At Houston.
02:07Then the Rams.
02:08Okay.
02:08At New York.
02:09Then the Rams.
02:10Then the Rams.
02:11Really?
02:11I thought the Rams were coming right up.
02:13No, but those are your pre-trade deadline games.
02:20I actually do think there's some urgency this week,
02:22but I don't think that has anything to do with who you're starting at quarterback.
02:25You start, again, we talk about this all the time.
02:29I think it's funny sometimes that we do it so much.
02:31You start who's ready to play.
02:33If Brock's ready to play, this is Brock Purdy's job he plays.
02:36If he's not ready to play, and Mac's ready to play, then Mac plays.
02:39If neither of them are ready to play, then Adrian, I'm going to get it right all week,
02:44Martinez plays.
02:46That's how this works.
02:48So, anyway.
02:49Okay.
02:50There's your update.
02:51More on that in a second.
02:52888-957-9570 is the number.
02:55Patrick in Danville is with us on Willard and Dibs.
02:57Hey, Patrick.
02:58How are you?
03:00Hey, I'm doing all right.
03:01A little depressed like everybody else, but I've got a question for you.
03:05What's up?
03:05You've got all these guys out of it, you know, Ayuk and Kittle and Fred Warner and Purdy.
03:10I mean, these are the highest-paid guys on the team.
03:13Is there anything in the NFL where they give them some salary cap space to maybe find some
03:18other guys that's going to ask here?
03:21Here's the way, and as a non, Patrick, thank you, as a non-salary cap expert, I do think
03:29there are a couple things that you can do in the framework of injury exceptions and whatnot,
03:38and that can maybe create a little bit of space in the moment.
03:42However, it pushes things down the road a little bit, so I don't know if the 49ers have done
03:48that.
03:48I don't know if they will do that, but in a general sense, like the way you asked it, Patrick,
03:54I would sort of answer no.
03:56Like, is the NFL going to come in with a big fruit basket and be like, we're so sorry that
04:03this has happened, so here's a bunch of money so that you can replace those people?
04:08No, no, I'm pretty sure the rest of the league would flip their lid if anything like that
04:13would happen, so there are things that they can do, and they have a lot of cap space, but
04:19they're trying to keep as much of it as possible.
04:21They'd like to roll it over to next year when Brock's deal kicks in, so it'll be interesting
04:24to see what they would do.
04:26For me, as far as how this hits the trade deadline, I eliminate anybody who is in a contract
04:32year.
04:32To me, yesterday signals a hard no on Trey Hendrickson, because Trey Hendrickson was a
04:40move solely for and only for this year.
04:44That's why, like Trey is on a one-year deal, I'm not giving up draft capital to basically
04:50go all in on this season when I am missing this many key players.
04:55If there are people you can acquire that can help you now that will also help you next year
05:00and going into the future, that's a different story.
05:03I think the Niners can still make those phone calls.
05:05I think you can make all the phone calls.
05:07I mean, if Trey Hendrickson's price goes down or if the draft capital is not that steep,
05:12then go ahead and do it, because I look at where you are, you're 4-2, and yeah, you don't
05:16have Fred, and you won't have Nick Bosa, and your offense is going to suddenly be getting
05:21better here in the next week or two or three or four or maybe all of it.
05:26You're going to get Brock Purdy back, and you're going to get George Kittle back hopefully
05:30this week, and we don't know the timeline for any of these guys, but if the offense becomes
05:35the real standard barrier, then go ahead and add somebody on the defense, and if the Bengals
05:40are continuing to be in this sort of a free-fall mode and the price for Hendrickson goes down,
05:46then go ahead and go out there and be in that market.
05:49I do think that if you had a pass rusher, your secondary would be a lot better than what
05:54we saw yesterday, and yesterday for me was, it was bad.
05:58They were not good.
05:59It was terrible.
06:00It was terrible.
06:01Just to circle back to Hendrickson, there is a quote directly from Kyle Shanahan just
06:05moments ago about this.
06:06I'll read it to you in just a sec, but when you say, for instance, if the price goes down,
06:11I don't know why it would.
06:12There are going to be a lot of teams after Trey Hendrickson.
06:16The Colts are in need of a pass rusher, for example, and they've got something to protect
06:20here.
06:21They're 5-1.
06:22I think there are other teams that will be interested.
06:25Even if the price were to, quote, come down, which I don't think it will, you're still talking
06:30about, like, there's no way you're in that conversation for less than a second-round
06:33draft pick.
06:34That's not something I would give up for this year.
06:37You don't, like, that's something you do if you think you can win the bowl this year,
06:43and I think that thought is getting hard for even the most optimistic person in the world,
06:48hi, my name's Mark, like, how the hell can you even see that through all the weeds that
06:54have been created?
06:55Here's what Kyle Shanahan just said on the idea of, quote, aggressively pursuing pass
07:01rushers via trade and how Fred's injury impacts that from Kyle, quote, I don't think we were
07:08being that aggressive in the first place.
07:10Not having Fred makes it harder.
07:13But I don't see the situation that much different from before the game to now.
07:19That's Kyle's answer on that idea.
07:21Right.
07:22In other words, we're just going to try and do what we do with this year's crew and hope
07:26for the best.
07:27And you know what?
07:28If we make the playoffs, great, but we don't think that we're going to be a Super Bowl team
07:31anyway.
07:32I think that's a little...
07:34A little bit of a quitter answer to me.
07:36I don't...
07:37Is what I hear that.
07:37No, no, no, because the word was aggressively.
07:40In other words, I think the 49ers will bolster the group.
07:43Passively.
07:44I don't think they're going to do it at the top of the market.
07:46Right.
07:46That's not passive.
07:48Passive would be going out there and getting somebody off somebody else's practice squad.
07:52No, no, no, no, no.
07:52No, I think that they could acquire some people, some actual players.
07:56I just don't think they'll be on a one-year deal.
07:58And I don't think they're going to give up first or second round capital.
08:01But if you can start doing stuff for fifth and sixth rounders, conditional picks, pick
08:05swaps, whatever, to grab somebody off of the Jets or teams that are...
08:10Like the Bengals getting Flacco.
08:12That was a fifth and a sixth and...
08:15No, that's...
08:15Yeah, exactly.
08:16But that, you know...
08:17Like that, I think the Niners will do...
08:20I think they will do something.
08:21But I think they'll be smart.
08:22And I agree with that.
08:24Like, what are we trying to do here?
08:26I think they'll be smart.
