00:00Our Patriots Monday regular guest, Marcus Jones, joins us.

00:04Marcus, how are we doing this week?

00:07I'm doing good. I'm doing good. How are you?

00:09How was that post-game locker room? I think the kids would say it was lit.

00:15Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was great, you know, especially getting a win on the road

00:21and another hostile environment and everything.

00:24So it was great to get the win for sure.

00:26Marcus, what were some of the challenges presented to you following up

00:30what was easily the biggest win of this season, probably of your Patriots career,

00:34and I would say of the decade thus far in Buffalo,

00:37and then going on the road against a team you were favored against in the New Orleans Saints?

00:44Yeah, first off, I'm going to give a lot of credit to, you know, a great football team.

00:49You know, the Saints, they have a lot of great players on both sides of the ball

00:54and everything, and Raves talked to us about the situation of, you know,

00:58playing our football, making sure it's our standard, and then playing up to our standard.

01:02Of course, you know, there's corrections on film that will get corrected and everything,

01:06but it was just great to end up taking that long flight down there

01:10and getting that W and coming back home.

01:11Marcus, from afar, it appears you're playing the best football of your career on defense.

01:17You're very active, pass defenses. You had a sack. You're knocking balls out.

01:21Do you agree with that? First of all, do you feel like you're playing some of your best football of your career?

01:25And if so, why? Is that scheme? Is that experience?

01:29What would you attribute that to?

01:33I attribute it to just the situation of being able to take advantage of the plays that, you know,

01:39that I'm playing, you know, being able to be in the right spot,

01:42you know, trusting the players that surround me and everything like that,

01:47doing my one of 11, and just making sure I keep my head down and just keep going.

01:51You know, it's a long season, of course, but just taking it one play at a time and everything

01:55and then kind of going from there.

01:57But, you know, always trying to go 1-0 each week is the most important thing, honestly.

02:02Marcus, obviously, we've been watching you since you came into the league out of Houston in 2022.

02:07And this season, sure, the, you know, forced fumbles, the interception, but also, you know, a sack,

02:13a lot of hard hits, a lot of intense contact.

02:17Would you say that your play style has intensified either since you came into the league

02:21or in particular this year under Mike Vrabel and Terrell Williams and Zach Kaur?

02:27I would say I've always been from the sense of never scared to stick my nose in

02:33and everything when it comes down to making tackles and, you know, doing different plays

02:38and everything like that.

02:40When it comes down to how our scheme is and stuff like that, you know,

02:43we do try to put people in the right position to where they can succeed

02:47and basically making sure that we go out there and play fast.

02:53You know, we communicate with each other.

02:55We have a lot of trust when it comes down to the captains

02:57to let people know the standard that we're playing at.

03:01But at the end of the day, you know, on defense, all 11 are trusting each other

03:05and making sure that we make plays on the ball.

03:08Marcus Jones, Patriots cornerback, joining us here on a Patriots Monday on WEI Afternoons.

03:13Along those lines, there's this phrase that often gets thrown out there,

03:16and often it's with your position, cornerbacks, business decisions, right?

03:20They choose to kind of dive at a guy's feet instead of taking him on high

03:23or make the tackle on a running back or a bigger player.

03:27Is it safe to say you don't really consider that, that you don't make business decisions

03:32and you just kind of throw your body out there and don't worry about it?

03:36Yeah, I feel as though we're all out there trying to make plays.

03:39So at the end of the day, you know, I don't care who has the ball.

03:43I'm trying to either get them down or get the ball out of their hands.

03:46Now on the subject of business decisions, Marcus, this is the final year of your rookie deal,

03:54and you're having a probably, I think it's safe to say, as a returner, specialist, cornerback, etc.,

04:01you're having a career year.

04:03Have you and the Patriots top contract at all, and would you like to continue your career in New England?

04:08As of right now, I'm just focused on, you know, the season.

04:15That stuff will handle itself out whenever it comes down to it,

04:17but as of right now, I'm just keeping my head down and, you know, focusing on the season.

04:22If I asked you what do you like about playing in New England right now,

04:25what would the answer to that be?

04:28Oh, yeah, first off, man, the fan base.

04:30I love the fan base here when it comes down to all the sports teams out here

04:34and then the connections in the sense of people that I've met, you know,

04:38the people that help us out and everything like that through a lot of stuff,

04:42whether it's community and a whole bunch of things like that, man,

04:45that's the thing that sticks out a lot when it comes down to the Northeast.

04:50So coming up, going to be obviously an intense week last week coming off the Buffalo game,

04:56getting ready for New Orleans and no letdown.

04:59Now you have your coach going back to where he used to coach,

05:02so there's going to probably be a little extra incentive on his mind.

05:05Are you guys ready for however Coach Vrabel ramps things up this week?

05:11Yeah, I feel as though, you know, it's going to be an important week

05:15because it's the next week.

05:16You know, Vraves isn't too, you know, too into the situation of like,

05:21oh, okay, this is where, you know, I was before and everything.

05:24Like, we all understand, you know, when it comes down to this business,

05:27you might work or play for one organization and you go to the next.

05:30So at the end of the day, you know, we're going to treat this game,

05:34you know, as it's a normal game and make sure we key in

05:37and lock into the things that we need to lock into.

05:40Speaking of Vrabel, I referenced that video from Patriots.com

05:43that they put out post-game locker room where he emphasized

05:45we're never going to not celebrate a win.

05:49What did that mean to you that he emphasized how much you put into it

05:52or he's telling you guys turn up the music and enjoy the win?

05:56What does that mean to you?

05:57It means a lot because he's, he has been a player before.

06:02So he understands, you know, the grit and the determination

06:05that you have to have in order to win in the National Football League.

06:10Because any given Sunday, you know, you can win a game

06:13and you can lose a game.

06:14So it's very important.

06:15So, you know, I definitely appreciate the situation of him saying,

06:19you know, we're going to celebrate wins

06:20because we all know how hard it is to win in this league.

06:22Marcus, you are one of six team captains for the 2025 New England Patriots,

06:28which is something I imagine means an awful lot to you.

06:31But also we recently, as media and fans, heard about the game captains as well

06:36that Coach Vrabel goes about selecting for unique reasons each and every week.

06:40Am I correct that Kyrus Tonga, who's having a terrific season,

06:44was the game captain yesterday but was too shy to go out before the game?

06:50Yeah, he was the game captain.

06:53I don't know too much about the situation of him being too shy to go out.

06:58But I know Tonga, he's a hard worker, man.

07:01Great personality.

07:02Happy to always be at work.

07:04And he's always doing his job to the best of his ability when it comes down to it.

07:08But I don't know too much of him being too shy to go out.

07:12Marcus, we are seeing some of your wide receiver teammates

07:15really evolve before our eyes, blow up,

07:18putting up really impressive numbers, making big plays.

07:21You know, Stephon Diggs had a couple hundred-yard games.

07:23Booty yesterday, a couple touchdowns.

07:26Pop Douglas should have had a couple touchdowns.

07:29He got screwed by a call by the officials.

07:31I was wondering, from your perspective on the practice field

07:33and your experiences, who's the toughest Patriots receiver to cover?

07:38I feel as though, you know, that's a great question.

07:42Everyone has their different ways.

07:45You know what I mean?

07:45Like, Kayshawn, you know, he has his deceptive speed.

07:50When it comes down to it, Pop has the quickness and everything to get open.

07:54Diggs has the strong hands.

07:56So I feel as though it's not just one.

07:59You know, they all have their top of the line, you know,

08:03great attributes when it comes down to a receiver.

08:05This is a little bit of a kind of a curveball question,

08:11but we asked Drake May earlier.

08:13Marcus, are you into horror movies at all?

08:17Oh, no.

08:18See, me, I'm not big into horror movies.

08:21I'm not big into scary stuff.

08:23I don't watch no scary movies.

08:24You know, I like to keep my dreams the way they're happy and stuff.

08:29I'm the type that messing around and have nightmares at night.

08:31So I'm not crazy about horror movies.

08:34Do you have a favorite kind of movie, though?

08:36Like, you know, if you're going to go to a movie,

08:38are you going to Netflix and chill?

08:40Marcus Jones likes what?

08:44Netflix and chill.

08:47When it comes down to it, that's a great question.

08:53I don't really have an answer right now, but I've watched plenty of movies.

08:56I would say, like, one movie, this doesn't have anything to do with horror,

08:59but I like Avatar, even though people are crazy about how long the movies are

09:04and everything like that.

09:04I feel like they put a lot of detail and, you know,

09:07there's a lot of VFX when it comes down to movies like that,

09:10but I was really intrigued on how they, you know, put everything together.

09:13One last football question before we let you go.

09:15I apologize here.

09:16I'm sure you saw or will be made aware the Titans actually fired their head coach

09:21in Brian Callahan.

09:22He's also their offensive play caller and coordinator.

09:25From a defensive perspective, when a team changes play caller,

09:29offensive head coach is fired, does that make this week even more of an unknown?

09:34And what challenges does that present getting ready for the Titans?

09:39Yeah, I feel as though, you know, when it comes down to something like that,

09:45it does make it an unknown a little bit.

09:47But then again, we're in the midst of the season,

09:49so I feel as though they can't change a whole bunch of things because that would make it difficult

09:53for them.

09:56But I feel as though, you know, there's always unknown if you go into every game.

09:59Of course, you know, you watch film and you see tendencies and everything like that.

10:02But, yeah, that's what I would say about that.

10:05All right, Marcus, congrats on the win this week.

10:07Stay healthy.

10:09You know, you made that one play, the pass defense,

10:11where you were like parallel to the ground about five feet in the air

10:14and you hit really hard.

10:15And I know you were a little slow to get up.

10:16Not too many more of those.

10:17We need you for the full season.

10:19So try to pick your spots with those crazy plays, okay?
