00:10Milton Williams, thanks for joining us here on Jones & Keefe.
00:13Joining us here on Jones & Keefe on WEI Patriots Friday is Patriots defensive lineman Milton Williams.
00:19Milton, thanks so much for taking the time. We appreciate it.
00:22I appreciate y'all having me on.
00:24How's year one in New England going for you so far leading up to week one of the regular season?
00:30Year one, it's going good. We've been getting some work in.
00:35Coach has been pushing us every day.
00:37Just trying to get better every day, every time we step out there on the practice field.
00:42Making sure that we're getting better at something.
00:46Perfecting our techniques and just building the team.
00:50Like I said, it's been good. I'm ready for the regular season to kick off.
00:54What about some of the off-the-field stuff, Milton?
00:57Milton, just four years in Philadelphia. It's now year one. You've only been here a few months.
01:01How has the adjustment been up here in New England?
01:04New facility, new everything, new surroundings. How's that been?
01:09It's been good. It's been good.
01:10Most of the time, I spend most of my time up here at the facility.
01:14The facility is cool.
01:15I hear we're getting a new one next year, so that'll be dope next year.
01:21But yeah, no, it's been pretty cool.
01:25It's kind of, I'll tell everybody, Foxborough kind of reminds me of my college town in Ruston, Louisiana,
01:32where it's really not like, it's a football town.
01:35Not really that much to do in the city, but it's all like football.
01:40You know, the fans die hard out here, and they're going to let you know if you're doing something right,
01:45if you're doing something wrong.
01:46It's the same way in Philly, too.
01:48So it's kind of a lot of similarities for me.
01:52So it's been a smooth transition.
01:54You mentioned your college town.
01:55We know you went to Louisiana Tech.
01:57I'm curious, coming out of high school, what other options did you have,
02:00and how did you land on Louisiana Tech?
02:02So I wasn't that highly recruited coming out of high school.
02:06I was a two-star, two-star athlete.
02:11The biggest offer that I did have was Louisiana Tech, I think Tulsa, and I think UTSA.
02:20That was about it.
02:21A lot of the Texas schools, I was trying to get recruited from, like, TCU, Texas Tech, A&M.
02:31No, they never offered.
02:33So when you signed that new contract this year, you were probably thinking,
02:37hey, pretty good for a two-star.
02:39Hey, man, it was great, great for a two-star.
02:43And that's definitely a dream come true and a blessing as well.
02:46You said you haven't, or you spent most of your time at the facility.
02:50Have you gotten into Boston?
02:52And if so, I'm curious how you think that compares, certainly driving-wise,
02:57to places like Philadelphia where you played before.
03:01The only thing, I've been to Boston once.
03:04We went and got some neat out there at Ocean Prime, which was pretty good.
03:09Nice.
03:09So I might definitely be back around there picking me a steak or two.
03:15Are you a sports fan outside of football?
03:18Do you like basketball, baseball, any other sports?
03:22Basketball.
03:23Who's your team?
03:23So I don't really have a team.
03:28I like a lot of players.
03:30My favorite player is LeBron, but I like Tatum.
03:34Keith just made a face.
03:36Keith is not a LeBron guy.
03:37As a Celtics guy, I don't like LeBron.
03:39I know a lot of people do.
03:40I understand that.
03:40But Tatum, he threw Tatum on the list.
03:42That's good.
03:43No, Tatum, Tatum, Tatum one of them once for sure.
03:46Giannis, Embiid, Luka.
03:52Man, it's a lot of guys.
03:54Kawhi, like it's a lot of dudes in the NBA that I just like watching them play.
03:58Just watching them just perfect their craft.
04:02Kind of like how it's like me watching other defensive linemen do what they do.
04:06Watching those players has been so good for so long.
04:09I get a joy out of watching them.
04:11Speaking of watching other defensive linemen,
04:13what are you seeing out of your teammate Christian Barmore so far in camp?
04:17Oh, yeah.
04:17No, we're going to be ready to rock and roll.
04:22He's coming back off dealing with what he was dealing with last year.
04:26But when he's been out there, we've been trying to just get that chemistry,
04:30working off each other, and picking each other's brains.
04:34Seeing what he sees from his point of view, what he likes,
04:38what certain moves he'd like to do.
04:40We're kind of two different players,
04:42so we've got different styles of how we see things and how we play.
04:46So just feeding off each other, picking each other's brains,
04:49it's been good.
04:51We're going to be ready to rock.
04:53What about the offensive line on the team?
04:55You had a chance to go up against them quite a bit throughout training camp.
04:58How would you describe this offensive line?
05:02Inside, I see most of the guys inside.
05:04So Big Mike, of course, me and him have been having our battles through our camp
05:11and practice every day.
05:12Just him being one of the best guards in football, seeing him every day,
05:18you know, it's going to help me on Sunday.
05:20It's kind of how I was last year going against Landon Dickerson every day in practice.
05:25So pretty much the same there.
05:30Jared, on the left guard, he's a young player right now,
05:34but he's going to be, like I said earlier in training camp.
05:37He's got a bright future ahead of him.
05:39You know, he's still learning.
05:41He's going to have some ebbs and flows.
05:42That just trouble being a young player.
05:44But once he keeps, you know, keep working and keep studying,
05:48it's going to eventually click for him.
05:51And, you know, the sky's the limit.
05:54You know, you mentioned practicing against the offensive line for the Eagles last year.
05:58How often would you guys face the tush push in practice?
06:03And how would you go about stopping that?
06:07No, so we never practiced against them doing that.
06:10So they kind of like did their own,
06:14they had their own way of practicing and how they wanted to do it.
06:18But we never lined up against them doing that.
06:21Is it fair?
06:22Should it be allowed?
06:24Oh, I feel like that's probably, like, football, like, one-on-one, like, stop us.
06:34Like, if you want us to get out the field, you want us to stop us.
06:36Like, we got a strong quarterback, strong running back, big off the line.
06:40Like, stop us and we'll get out the field.
06:42So I feel like, you know, we got to figure out a way to stop them.
06:47I feel like they've been kind of perfected it over the past couple years.
06:52You know, we got to figure out a way to get it stopped whenever we get an opportunity.
06:57I definitely think it should be in the game because they're not the only ones that do it.
07:00But I feel like they definitely have perfected what they're trying to accomplish doing it.
07:06So that was a big part of the Eagles' identity, as was the defense.
07:11You're a Super Bowl champion.
07:12I don't know that the expectations externally here are quite that high for a championship this year.
07:19But we do have heightened expectations for the team this year.
07:22What are your expectations on the field?
07:25Oh, man, I'm expecting us to just go out there and just harp on what Coach has been harping on.
07:32Just playing harder than people, playing more physical than people, coming in and having people really,
07:37when they see us on tape, like, man, yeah, like, we want to bulk our chin strap up this week
07:42because E-Boys coming in here ready to do something and ready to hit somebody.
07:46So, you know, I want to see us just go out there, execute, play hard, play fast.
07:51And, man, that's really all you can do.
07:54Like, everything else is going to take care of itself.
07:56But you checking those boxes, being where you're supposed to be, winning one-on-one matchups,
08:01executing a call, hey, that's all we can ask for.
08:05And, you know, I'm pretty sure wins will follow that.
08:08Last one for me, very important.
08:10Last year you had five sacks.
08:12You have 11 1⁄2 career sacks.
08:14Do you have a favorite in your career?
08:16Favorite?
08:19I have to say that my favorite would have been the Super Bowl sacks.
08:23But I don't know if they count, if those count for the stats.
08:27Oh, good point.
08:27That was regular season sacks.
08:29So, yeah, it's got to be the Super Bowl sacks.
08:30Yeah, my bad.
08:31Yeah, yeah.
08:31Put that one down.
08:32You had two last year in the playoffs.
08:33You know what I'm saying?
08:33Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:34That counts.
08:34That's good.
08:35Good answer.
08:37Okay.
08:38Okay.
08:38I often try to see.
08:40If it wasn't that one, I'll probably say my first one.
08:43I'll give my first egg in Detroit versus Goff.
08:47Good one.
08:48Good one.
08:49All right.
08:50All right.
08:50Well, Milton Williams, we appreciate you joining us here on a Patriots Friday
