00:00I think it's a wonderful whatever I see of soil it's a I would say an institute
00:14with difference with the great value systems behind it and the kind of
00:18education is delivering is just beyond pure play academics it has a good
00:23combination of corporate plus also as I said the values which you bring in in
00:27terms of even alternative art which you're bringing in for students the fact
00:32that you know they are getting a lot of corporate exposure they're also getting
00:36a lot of spiritual education so I think that's a wonderful mix of what you know
00:41institute should be the values system that this institute is imbibing through
00:48the education's curriculum and the system that is being taught to the MBA
00:52students are something that would really help them to lead a life which is just
00:57beyond the corporate life but make them far more better human beings who are
01:03able to create a larger impact to the people as well as the organizations
01:08which I see a lot of miss in the whole education system when the whole MBA you
01:14know when the children's go and do their MBA across various institutes right they
01:18learn a lot of technical aspects but but this whole softer aspect which is the
01:23value system is something that they don't get exposure to right and later in
01:28their life they understand the value of those integral parts which are very
01:33important for them to lead their life far more better second I think you know the
01:38far more greater exposure to industry here right I see that the best of the
01:43industries come here and talk about and share their experiences right which is
01:48very important and unique because it helps the MBA students to really learn
01:53from the people who have experienced it and have been successful right so it
01:58really helps them to give a far more larger holistic view in terms of how they
02:03can be better at work as well as you know individuals in their life it's a school
02:08with a difference I find it very different from other business schools that
02:14exist in the country because what soil teachers is something very fundamental
02:19which is about leadership and not about management the whole ethos of soil which
02:23is to build well-rounded leaders who not only will contribute to corporates in
02:30India but also to society and I think that's what inspires me and every time I
02:36interact with soil students that's what I find is different about the
02:40the students who come here the way they learn they're anchoring in values both
02:46personal values and societal values and I think that's a huge differentiation for
02:50soil
02:54so I think this mentorship program is a very unique program and I think it's going to
02:58really help the students who really cater to the needs in terms of where they are
03:04right now and how they can transition into the corporate life far more
03:09effectively with clarity on what they should be doing what they should not be
03:14doing as well as also learn from the experiences in terms of what mistakes
03:19others did right or what they should not do I think the mentorship program is an
03:24absolutely outstanding opportunity for soil students especially as they're
03:31graduating and entering into the world of work to bridge that space between you
03:36know school and back in the workplace I would certainly encourage all soil students to use
03:44the time that the mentors have given and get the most out of it it's always interesting
03:49and it's very refreshing to hear what are the current problems that students are
03:55trying to solve what are the personal issues how are they negotiating their work life and
04:00their home life also if you get a peek into their life as they mature from a
04:06student into an early working profession and some of them now that who have
04:10mentored have moved on to pretty significant roles maybe even international
04:16assignments so I think it's been a rewarding journey I would say mentorship is
04:21very important because it allows a person to like I said bridge the gap between
04:25school and and the world of work but more importantly there are it gives you an
04:30opportunity to interact with a senior professional when you go out into the
04:34world of work you're going to have to interact with people who are you know
04:38fairly senior and how do you hold yourself and just being in the presence of a
04:42mentor and using that as an opportunity to interact and learn just even by being
04:48there I think makes a big difference because you learn the skills of even
04:52talking to someone who's not just your age group or not necessarily related to
04:56what you're doing but from an entirely different sphere which is what you're
05:01going to have to do when you start working right because you could be working and
05:04trying to influence across the hierarchy you might need to present yourself to
05:10people who are many levels higher than you for example and so just having had
05:16that experience working with people who in a mentoring relationship I think it's an
05:22invaluable experience see I've been mentoring soil students for the last four
05:29five years and I think it's a unique opportunity students get and a fantastic
05:35concept we do these things in the corporate but if you can start this early as a
05:42student nothing like it it really helps the student get a perspective which many
05:48times they lack when they are young and if you are able to shape their
05:51thinking early it makes a huge difference I have had mentors who are still in touch
05:57with me we still have mentoring sessions with them while they are still working in
06:01our corporates but I think as a process this is something very unique and really good for
06:08the students I've seen these people change I've seen these people grow I've
06:14seen that how they have benefited from this entire program I had a person who
06:19came from a small town caught a little lost in this Gurgaon and then moved to
06:25Mumbai but he always kept saying those initial conversations that we had helped me
06:30overcome my lack of confidence and now he's staying in Mumbai doing very well
06:37I had another person who wasn't very clear or what she wanted to do but through
06:42the conversation through the mentoring she found her purpose and that really
06:46helped her so there are numerous stories like this it's a very good combination of
06:51academia and industry expertise so we all are coming with for example I've worked
06:56for about more than three decades with best of the companies in the world but you
07:00know how do you translate some of that experiences to the students so it's also
07:04for us as executives who've worked with organizations to give it and pay it
07:09forward and it's a very good experience for us as mentors and for the mentees to
07:14probably gain from whatever our learnings were whether they were successful or
07:19whether some failures we learned from and probably they'll be more prepared as they
07:23enter the corporate world world is changing so fast and there's so much
07:26happening right now in the industry and there's so much flux in that it's also
07:30very important for a student to have that you know go-to person where he or she
07:36can very openly and without any judgments who can give them very honest non-biased
07:42view and I think mentoring therefore helps for a student to get a completely
07:47unbiased a judgment free view from an outsider who's worked and gone through the
07:52path and you know that that's what I think is good for the students and not what
07:58mentoring can offer I'm Anjali Cantla a second year PGDM student at soil talking
08:03about this mentorship program it is a great opportunity for me to learn and
08:07grow it will help me to ask questions get real feedback which will help me
08:12improve my skills and which will eventually help me do better in my
08:16interviews so I genuinely feel that this mentorship program will help me in right
08:21way to choose my right career path
