00:00That was actually a really significant day, and the social media bit brings that to life
00:12and shares it. I have done amazing ambassadorial work, so much so.
00:16We'd be delighted to give you the next vehicle which needs a little bit of Hammond TLC.
00:26Let's make it happen. After four rollercoaster years in the classic car restoration business,
00:34that worked. I'm going to claim my thought of everything. It seems I've finally cracked it.
00:38Happy customer, that's a good feeling. We've dragged our PR department.
00:43You're going to get your asses over here damn quick. Into the 21st century.
00:47Our reach on that day was 317,000 people. And as brand ambassador,
00:53if you happen to have a car in the UK ever, I'm leading the charge.
00:58Hey, this is brilliant. At least that's what I thought.
01:03If you've over promised, you can't under deliver. Until my mum arrived.
01:09They won't listen to me. They'll listen to me.
01:12And it turns out that once again, I'm in deep trouble.
01:16I'm going to have to do something. I'm going to have to do something big.
01:19Oh, my God.
01:20Right now, it's good times. The workshop is buzzing. Everybody's ronds are falling into place.
01:42Me as the ambassador. Just back from Jordan. It's a slow burn, but work will come from there.
01:48Lewis's job in social media, it's making a difference. And we've got great cars in the shop to work on.
01:55And because I'm living that bit closer to work now, I get to dig out my otherwise seldom used classics
02:00and commute in them. Like this. 1967 Mustang 390 GT in Highland Green.
02:06Basically, it is a bullet car. I've owned it, I don't know, 21 years.
02:11I love it, and I've got to work in it. This is actually good.
02:30Morning. How's it going with this? Morning. Yeah, not too bad. Getting there.
02:34Yeah, we're getting there slowly. Good, good. How are you doing, Isaac? Good.
02:38That is an Aston Martin Lagonda. Really rare car.
02:41It belongs to Roger Dudding, owner of the largest private classic car collection in Europe.
02:47Good grief. Aston Martin Lagondas. Wow.
02:52After we repaired one of the more modest cars in his collection,
02:55there was a dent and there was some damage to the paint on here.
02:58Beautiful work. Can't see it at all.
03:00That's lovely. Roger and his wife, Emma, entrusted us to repaint one of their prized
03:05Lagondas a classy pink. Customer care in this game, especially in the case of
03:12high-profile VIP customers like Roger Dudding with Europe's biggest car collection. It's about
03:19knowing about their cars, which in this case is quite easy because it's a car you can't help but love.
03:27It's the Aston Martin Lagonda. So it was a work of a guy called William Townes and he'd produced the DBS.
03:35And you can kind of see where he was going. So he took this, which is all curvaceous and soft,
03:39rounded edges and sharpened it up. And then he obviously decided, hey, sharp lines. I like this.
03:46And then he went berserk with his roller and made this, the Aston Martin Lagonda.
03:52It was a controversial car. And our car is going to be even more controversial,
03:59which is where young Lewis comes in.
04:04Lewis!
04:08Yo, we called. Come in.
04:11Pecky's, are you? Right. I wanted to talk to you about what I think is an opportunity,
04:15that massive great Aston Martin Lagonda, the big blue car down there.
04:18They quite bore him on.
04:20Mate, they were a legendary car.
04:22I mean, I'd never seen one before.
04:23All right, but can we make some social media stuff around it?
04:26Wow. Okay. The power of social media is coming into play there.
04:30That's going to be quite hard.
04:31And this is why I wanted to talk to you. Because the owners, they want us to paint it pink.
04:36That's a lot of pink.
04:37Yes, it's several acres of pink.
04:39Okay, that's quite interesting.
04:40See?
04:41Obviously, there's quite a lot of pinks in the world.
04:43What sort of pink?
04:44Like a ruby pink?
04:46All they've said so far is classy.
04:48Oh, okay.
04:49Have a think about that as well. Have a think about the actual, a classy pink.
04:53Oh yeah, because you could go quite, you could go deep.
04:55Yeah, don't think about it now.
04:57Oh right, sorry.
04:57Yeah, fine.
04:58Think about it somewhere else.
04:59Not here.
04:59When you're thinking about how you can make social media out of this, what shade of pink might work.
05:04We can't, it's their call.
05:05They're call.
05:05But we've got to offer them some options.
05:07Yes.
05:07But some call options.
05:08Yes.
05:09Take that and your sweeties with you and think about what you can do.
05:12I've got a present for you.
05:15Cheers.
05:15It's just, I do enjoy having the energy of youth.
05:19Yeah.
05:20Oh God.
05:21I do enjoy having the bouncy energy of youth around, but it makes me feel old.
05:36Back a bit.
05:37They're not the lightest, are they?
05:41No, I think they're almond.
05:46This is a massive job, because this guy is huge.
05:49So everything's taking a bit longer, but it's completely stripped down and it's complete
05:53respray.
05:54So the pressure's on.
05:55It's got to be perfect.
05:57Which way are we going now?
05:58Out?
06:00Yeah.
06:04Ready?
06:04Yeah.
06:05Oh my God!
06:10Oh, that's the last door then.
06:11Let's have a look at that side.
06:14You hear that?
06:15It's nice, that is.
06:16It's like an hourglass.
06:18Yeah, you can see all the rust inside, but
06:20and you wait till we start rubbing it down.
06:23Oh, that looks nice.
06:25Half the car's on the floor.
06:27It's gone back to nature.
06:29And it virtually turns to sand.
06:31Look, you can see it's just disappearing.
06:35Should we stop scratching it, because there's going to be nothing left?
06:37Yeah.
06:39Classic cars.
06:40We love them.
06:45This used to be my secret storage barn, where I stored all my personal cars.
06:50But, well, I thinned them out.
06:52I had to sell a load to keep the business going.
06:54But what it needs to become is our waiting room, with cars waiting to go into the workshop.
06:58So I need to clear space.
07:00This is where I'm going to start.
07:02My dearest friend, Les, we restored his Riley at the workshop, best part two years ago.
07:08I haven't got round to returning it to him.
07:10That sounds like an excuse to go to the Lake District.
07:12So I'm delivering this back to him, and Izzy's coming with.
07:15Do we tell him about the surprise tomorrow?
07:29Do you know, I think we keep it a secret.
07:31Do you?
07:31Yeah.
07:32I'm telling him.
07:33I'm excited.
07:34No, because then he'll be so excited, he won't sleep tonight.
07:38I met Les when I first came here to Buttermare.
07:41I was just 17.
07:43I fell in love with the place, and we've been friends ever since.
07:47Let's look.
07:48Hey, upiz.
07:50Hi.
07:51Long time no see.
07:52Hello.
07:53How are you doing, sweetheart?
07:54Nice to see you.
07:55Hey, up, mate.
07:56Hi, mate.
07:57Come here.
07:57Hi, Pop.
07:58Hi, long time no see.
07:59Ah, Monka, hello.
08:00Ted, how are you?
08:01Hello.
08:02Ah, you actually have my camera.
08:03Yes, we have brought it.
08:04Fantastic.
08:05Finally.
08:06Um, just an idea.
08:07Yeah.
08:07Can I leave it on?
08:09We've had a little idea for something to do tomorrow that you quite enjoy, and I think it needs doing.
08:12Right, right.
08:13Good, good, good.
08:14For which he needs to stay on the trailer for now.
08:15Okay.
08:15And if we were to sidle broadly pubwards.
08:19Yes.
08:20I'd be much happier.
08:20I know where that is.
08:22Why don't we go there?
08:23We'll do that.
08:23Dolkin Cuphead.
08:24Let's do that.
08:24You'll take the giant hound with us.
08:25Yes.
08:26Okay, Iz, have you ever milked a cow before, love?
08:34Never.
08:34Let's bat on and do it.
08:35Let's do it.
08:36Hello, cow.
08:37This is Jasmine.
08:39Hello, Jasmine.
08:41You hold it upside down and then put those on.
08:58Yeah?
08:59You're going to go do that?
09:00Am I?
09:01Okay.
09:01Yeah, yeah.
09:04That's it.
09:06How's dad doing, love?
09:08He's all right.
09:08Yeah, he's good.
09:09I think he's very happy to be in Buttermere.
09:12Yeah, yeah.
09:12It is his favourite place in the entire world.
09:14And it's nice for me to come down, because I haven't been here in...
09:17No, I haven't seen you for years.
09:18Three years?
09:19Yeah.
09:19Three years, I think it's been.
09:20And how's mum?
09:21Yeah, she's good.
09:22She's all right.
09:23She's good, bless her, yeah.
09:26Les is the most chilled out human being I know.
09:29He's so relaxed.
09:31He's so kind.
09:32I think this is one of the reasons why Rich loves coming down here so much.
09:35Seeing someone like Les, who just is so down to earth, so genuine,
09:40they can just sit and chat for hours about nothing or everything,
09:44which I think for Rich is really nice to have.
09:51Good morning, sir.
09:55Hello.
09:55Morning, T.
09:56Right, so the plan for today is...
09:58Yes.
09:59Um, you know M Sport?
10:01Yes.
10:01The motorsport place just...
10:02Oh, yeah, yeah, Cockermouth, just inside the Cockermouth.
10:04Over there, yes.
10:05Right.
10:05Well, we had a bit of an idea.
10:07Right.
10:08Yeah.
10:08You'd probably quite like to go there.
10:10Really?
10:10Have you been?
10:11No, never.
10:12It's really cool, because they've built a test track, like, brand new.
10:15It's amazing.
10:16And we've got you permission to take that round, so we can give it a shake down.
10:19Yeah.
10:20Oh, wow!
10:21I didn't see that one, we're going on the track, we're going on the track.
10:24So we're going to go to M Sport, and then you can get that off the trailer and give it
10:28a proper shake down and see how it feels.
10:30Do you want to have a go, Iz, in my stupid car?
10:32Um, maybe I can be a passenger.
10:34Let's do it, we're going right.
10:35Okay, fantastic.
10:36You're in the back, because we're chauffeuring you, so get in the back.
10:38Okay, I'll get in the back.
10:51So, this is the Nagonda bonnet.
10:56Looking at this, it makes the problem with the doors look like a walk in the park.
11:02Yeah.
11:02You can see the leading edge is completely gone, where it's corroded away, because it's a steel
11:08frame and it's got aluminium wrapped around the steel frame, which is a massive no-no.
11:13As soon as they have contact with each other, it's instant chemical reaction, which causes the
11:19steel to rust and the aluminium to corrode.
11:21So I've arranged for Dan over the road to come and weld this up, because it is a specialist job
11:27to weld aluminium.
11:28The front end of this Lagonda bonnet is so iconic, we cannot get this wrong.
11:33It's got to be perfect.
11:35Hiya, Dan.
11:36You all right?
11:37Thanks for coming over, mate, to help us out.
11:39So what are your plans?
11:41I'm going to get this piece of aluminium that I've cut, and this is just going to slot over that there.
11:47That's going to look perfect.
11:49Right, I'll leave you to it, Dan.
11:50Yeah, no worries.
11:59Anyone can weld, but this, you can't get it wrong, because this will warp the panel, because aluminium
12:05is so thin, and you've just got to be so careful with the heat.
12:08It is a really specialist job, and luckily for me, Dan's the man, and obviously it's wowed in, and
12:17it's superb.
12:30Here we are.
12:31It's quite exciting to take them and shake down here, where they shake down like mega race cars.
12:39Oh my God, look at that.
12:45Oh yeah.
12:46Look at that.
12:46The speed of the thing.
12:48So they're testing these, ready to take them out to Monte Carlo.
12:51Yeah.
12:52Listen to it.
12:53That's the overrun.
12:54It's so cool.
12:57Right, so I think what we need to do is get your car warmed up, ready.
13:00When they give us a window, ping, off you go.
13:02Come on then, let's go do it.
13:05With everything that's going on in Richie's life right now, it's just the last thing in the world
13:09I expected him to want to pull out of the bag, really.
13:12I didn't even know this place existed.
13:15I think the day is going to be great.
13:19Are we ready?
13:20Be careful with my little girl in there.
13:32It's so cool.
13:34This is 90 years old, this year it is.
13:3790.
13:38And you tend to feel really quite alive in it.
13:42Whee!
13:53It's brilliant.
13:55Warm up in one of those slightly emotional moments all unexpectedly.
13:58I am.
14:00Never thought I'd be watching Les at nearly 60.
14:04Drive my daughter in her mid-20s around a test track.
14:10That's a happy thing.
14:12That's enough, please.
14:16I don't mind, I'm loving it.
14:18Yeah?
14:20That's the biggest surprise of all is Izzy, taking all of this on.
14:23She loves it, and yet growing up, if you ask her, she'll tell you it's because she's a girl.
14:31And society just doesn't expect that.
14:34But now suddenly she's realized, hang on, that world's for me as well, and I can be part of it.
14:39And now she is.
14:42I've never pushed her towards this, ever.
14:46She found it for herself.
14:47That's so quick!
14:52That means there's a whole lot of fun that's just been opened up.
14:55I think they want us back in this lap.
15:00I think they want us back in this lap.
15:04OK.
15:09Look at that.
15:10How can that not make you happy?
15:13That looks so cool!
15:14Well, I think we can chalk this up as a successful day.
15:20That was brilliant.
15:21Brilliant.
15:21Thanks for that, mate.
15:24I'm on a bit of a high.
15:25The last thing in the world I expected today was to be bringing it to a small circuit so near home.
15:30And I can't thank Rich and his enough for setting it all up and letting me bring the little thing here.
15:35That was so much fun.
15:37And watching Les is just brilliant.
15:39He was being a proper test driver.
15:41Like, you could tell that he was working out what he needs to do to make that car even better.
15:46It was really cool.
15:48Now, I know I have a tendency to get carried away,
15:52but it's hard not to when you discover that your own flesh and blood shares the same passion as you.
15:57I feel like a whole new chapter might be about to begin.
16:18Seeing Les and Izzy having so much fun on the track for that testing has reminded me how cool racing is.
16:25It is good for the brand, and it also is good for motivation.
16:30Yeah, it all got a bit expensive last time, but I've done a bit of digging,
16:33and I've looked into something called the Pomeroy Trophy, the POM, everyone calls it.
16:37And it, well, it sounds a bit nuts, but it is competitive.
16:42It's a form of racing.
16:43It would be good to show off the brand on track and to motivate everybody.
16:47And it's open to just about any car, which means we could have multiple cars in it.
16:52So we could have Anthony in the race car, the MGB.
16:55It needs a bit of work.
16:58Izzy could do it with her new bubbling enthusiasm for all things motorsport in her little track day mini.
17:05Then I've just got to work out something for me to go in, but I've had an idea.
17:09I've got to work out something for me to go in, but I've got to work out something for me to go in.
17:27Lewis!
17:29Yeah?
17:29I refuse to knock at your door.
17:31It's just, I'm not knocking.
17:32I'm not knocking at your door.
17:34Right, conversation.
17:35Thank you, Chris.
17:35No, thank you.
17:36Okay, fine.
17:37So, long and short, I want us to go racing again.
17:40Oh, winner.
17:41What stopped me last time was inevitably the expense.
17:44But there is a way we can dip a toe back in the waters.
17:47Okay.
17:47There's a thing called the Pomeroy Trophy.
17:50It is competitive, but it's not like a straight race.
17:53But you're on track.
17:54If our car's branded, which it is, it can get seen so people will see our name.
17:58You can magnify that with social media.
18:00Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
18:01And I want to do it in this.
18:03Think about it, we can have multiple cars, Ant in the MGB, Izzy in her track mini, and me in this.
18:09I mean, you're not really going to fit in that.
18:11Well, no, I'd do it in the real one, obviously.
18:13It's currently in Margate.
18:14What?
18:15At the Corgi Museum.
18:16Oh, it's still on display?
18:17Yeah, but...
18:18Oh, that's a problem.
18:19That's okay.
18:19It's not a problem at all.
18:20We can solve that.
18:21Absolutely.
18:22It's your not a problem.
18:23Yeah, fine.
18:24I can put a plan together to get it back.
18:26Solve that.
18:27Get it back.
18:27We'll use it.
18:28Brilliant.
18:28Perfect.
18:29Perfect.
18:30Thanks, boss.
18:30Exciting times.
18:33Wow.
18:50Dan has really impressed me with this one.
18:52That looks absolutely like factory.
18:54You would never know.
18:56We'll have to prep and prime that, which is minimal prep, because it's been wowed so well.
19:00The lad's been busy sorting out all the corrosion and rust on the door, so that's fantastic.
19:05That's all done now.
19:06And then, literally, we are waiting on the colour then.
19:08So, as soon as Emma decides which pink she wants, we crack on and get it painted.
19:15What's up, JP?
19:29What are you doing?
19:29We're trying to find a pink for this Lagonda.
19:31Oh, okay.
19:32The pink.
19:33Look how many pinks there are.
19:34Oh, my God.
19:35It's just going to look classy, hasn't it?
19:36Yeah.
19:36Would that be a deep ruby pink or like a hot Barbie pink?
19:42I don't think a hot Barbie pink.
19:43We're going to have to give her a variation, aren't we?
19:45We're going to have to do some samples.
19:46It's all good you're looking for colours on here, but let's make it a bit more interesting.
19:50Yeah, that's fine, mate.
19:51Right, so I'm going to film you having a look around the workshop, okay?
19:54Come on.
19:55Let's get some pink.
19:56Let's see if we've got anything in here that's pink.
20:02There's not very much pink in the workshop, so he's going to have his work cut out.
20:05But, I mean, if you can find a lid off it, it just shows that he's trying, I guess.
20:11Oh, there we go.
20:12That's some of pink.
20:14I don't know if that's a classy pink or not.
20:16There's pink.
20:20Perfect.
20:20First one.
20:22Lovely.
20:24Whose is this lunchbox?
20:26There's our food in there.
20:30Might come back empty.
20:45Isaac.
20:46Yes.
20:47Can I ask a favour, mate?
20:48Yeah.
20:49Would you be able to stay on and give me a hand and get the engine out of this?
20:52Oh, we may as well.
20:52Yeah.
20:53This is the after hours now.
20:55So, Richard wants a good show in the Pomeroy, and we've decided to take three cars along.
21:01I'm going to be using the MGB, which I'm so excited to use.
21:04But, recently, she's been sounding very poorly.
21:07But, if I can get the engine up quick, get it up to Rick Wood, who is our engine
21:11and master mechanic that can actually rebuild it for us.
21:15Hopefully, he can fix it in time, so I can actually use her again.
21:21Time's against me.
21:22Mrs is waiting at home, so I'd best get cracking.
21:25I want it done within an hour.
21:28I might even start a timer.
21:31Right, it's started.
21:3259 minutes.
21:33Lewis has given me binoculars and a balaclava.
21:45Ever have the feeling you're being led astray?
21:49Right.
21:50Lewis, we're pretending to steal my car from Corgi.
21:53Yes, because if you think social media, the start of the video, Richard Hammond gets back RS2000.
22:01With a picture with you and the binoculars and a balaclava, people are going to be like,
22:05what's that?
22:06Boom.
22:06All right, so what do I actually do?
22:08So, we're going to exit the car, walk towards the building.
22:11At that point, I want you to chuck your balaclava on.
22:14What do I do with these?
22:15As you get out of the car, you're scooting around.
22:16What kind of burglar gets out of the car with the binoculars and does that?
22:21Well, my other thing was, because we've got a vehicle that's not really obvious,
22:24you'll be hidden behind the really not obvious truck.
22:26Okay.
22:28Thank you very much.
22:31Okay.
22:33Ready.
22:43I'm sneaky-peaky.
22:44Good.
22:45Is that good?
22:46That's good.
22:46Jump down, pull your balaclava around and walk towards me.
22:53Yeah, come around now.
22:56Can't see a thing, mate.
22:57That's great.
22:59Yeah.
23:01That's it.
23:01I'm sneaking.
23:03Is this sneaky?
23:04Yes.
23:04Right.
23:05And then go.
23:07Perfect shot.
23:08I bet you've never done something like this before.
23:10Well, no, I'm not a burglar.
23:11Doesn't it feel great?
23:12No.
23:17Oh, come on.
23:2030 minutes.
23:21Oh!
23:22That's a head gasket gone, isn't it?
23:37Yeah.
23:38It's half an hour just getting the ramp down.
23:40That works.
23:41Oh, my God.
23:42Because the bottom of the bottom of the arm would stick down, didn't it?
23:45I reckon there's eight minutes left.
23:47OK.
23:48Yeah.
23:49Keep going?
23:50Yeah.
23:53I'm going to come up as high as that goes.
23:55All right, Ben.
23:57Not enough to clear?
23:58Clear.
23:59There you go.
23:59Whoa.
24:00Left on the hour timer, two minutes 50.
24:03New record.
24:04Less than an hour, she's out.
24:06Told you we could do it.
24:07We've got time for a break and everything.
24:11Just think of the music that's going to be with this.
24:12Like proper gangster vibe music.
24:14Yeah.
24:23OK.
24:23Right.
24:24Are you sure this is OK?
24:26Yes.
24:27Absolutely fine.
24:29So, nicknames.
24:32I was just going to go for shorty.
24:34No way!
24:36And I'm just going to be boss.
24:37Yeah.
24:38Great.
24:40No!
24:40Yes.
24:41Lewis.
24:42Yes.
24:42Why are we still whispering?
24:46Right.
24:47So?
24:48Yeah.
24:49They do know they can just take the car, don't they?
24:54OK.
24:54Here we go.
24:56If I crash it now, am I insured?
24:59Probably not, no.
25:11Back in the real world, I'm off to see Roger and Emma Dudding with samples of some classy pinks.
25:20I could have sent them in the post, but the Duddings are important clients, and I'd give any excuse for another peek at their classic car collection.
25:27I came in here once and there were 20-odd Aston Martin Lagondas, which is most of them in the world.
25:40So, I don't know what we've got today.
25:43If you like cars, this is how to arrive.
25:46Do you want to say?
25:47Or not?
25:49Oh, he's been select.
25:52Lancia Zagata.
25:53Lambo Countess at the back.
25:57That AC is incredibly rare.
25:58Dino, Citroen Deus de Capitabla.
26:03And I bet that's a flat floor E-type.
26:05It will be.
26:06How's my favourite couple in the whole world?
26:07Hello.
26:08How are you both, Roger?
26:09How are you, sir?
26:09Very nice to see you again.
26:11Hello, Richard.
26:11How are you?
26:12Lovely to see you as a joy.
26:14Glamorous as ever, both of you.
26:17How you been?
26:17We've been well.
26:18Good.
26:18Really well.
26:19So, the point of this visit, it's time to choose a colour.
26:23I wanted you to see them for real.
26:25That's a positive colour.
26:26That's a very positive colour.
26:28Oh, wow.
26:29Rather than a flat piece, this is a better way of judging what they look like on curves and form.
26:33Oh, my goodness.
26:35So, well.
26:36Wow.
26:39You change your mind, you want it blue.
26:40Okay, I'll go home.
26:42No, no changing minds.
26:46Richard, what do you think?
26:47The only thing I would say is imagine it on an Aston Martin Lagonda like yours.
26:53where you've got roughly eight acres of it, because there's a lot.
26:58If you go that far, it's in danger of looking funny.
27:02Yeah, absolutely.
27:04Out of the three of them, I would have to go for that now.
27:07This is the one, without question.
27:10I agree.
27:10It just looks beautiful, timeless, elegant.
27:15I think this one.
27:16I think that is an elegant colour.
27:18Yeah, shall we settle on that now?
27:19And I think it'll look amazing.
27:22This is defining.
27:24Yeah.
27:25Oh, exciting!
27:26It's going to be mind-blowing.
27:28It's going to look great.
27:45Anthony?
27:45Yeah, Rich.
27:46Oh, it's got an engine in.
27:47That's good.
27:48Yeah, a new one.
27:49And?
27:50Running lovely.
27:50Rick's done a real good job on this one.
27:52So it's going to be ready for the pop.
27:53Yeah.
27:54And then we've got Izzy's little track car.
27:57It's all shaping up to be really exciting, but I've just,
28:00while I'm talking to you on my mind, well, you've done quite a bit of racing now.
28:05Yeah.
28:06So you know what it's like out there.
28:07You're a father.
28:08Yeah.
28:09Of daughters.
28:10I'm just letting my daughter go racing, should I?
28:13It's terrifying.
28:14I don't know.
28:15If I had to let my daughter go out, but are you going to stop her?
28:19You raise a good point, and I've got to let her have these experiences.
28:22Yeah.
28:23The thing is, if she wants to experience it, you've got to let her do it.
28:26Let her fledge.
28:26Let her do what she wants.
28:28If you had a son, would you let your son do it?
28:29I'd be just as worried.
28:31Or would you let him?
28:31Probably more worried.
28:33Yeah, so there you go then.
28:34You'd be less worried if Izzy's doing it.
28:36My son would be an idiot, so I'd be more worried.
28:39Whereas my daughter is terrifying, but not an idiot.
28:42Okay.
28:42So I'm less worried about my daughter racing.
28:44There you go.
28:45So I should stop worrying.
28:46Yeah, stop worrying.
28:47Thank you for your logic.
28:48I appreciate your input.
28:48No worries.
28:52Jamie, it's time to think pink, because I've been to the Duddings and they have chosen
29:05the pink for the Aston Martin Lagonda.
29:07Which one?
29:08Ah, well, is it this one?
29:09Hopefully not.
29:12No, they went for that one.
29:13Oh, the one we...
29:13The one we wanted to, exactly.
29:14It's going to look, well, unique.
29:17I think it's a nice crisp colour.
29:18Yes.
29:19Right, I'm going to leave you those.
29:20Can you please make that gigantic car that colour for the customers?
29:24Well do.
29:24Just doing the final masking now before we put the colour on.
29:42And it's going to change the look of this car forever.
29:44Hopefully, Emma will be happy because she's chose the colour.
29:50But it's different from choosing a colour that big to then seeing a car.
29:56It's like, you know, when you go and choose a colour for your living room,
29:59you get a little tester, put a little bit on and you're like, oh yeah, it looks brilliant.
30:02You paint the wall and it's like, it looks awful.
30:05So, hopefully, we don't have that reaction.
30:13There's no turning back now.
30:15Let's go in this colour.
30:16Right, here we go.
30:20Let's get this car pink.
30:33I had three sisters growing up and now I've got four daughters.
30:47So, I've seen a lot of pink stuff in my time.
30:49But I know for one thing, if my kids saw that, they'd absolutely love it.
30:53What do you think?
30:54It's different, look.
30:55It's very pink.
30:56It's very pink.
31:18Morning, team.
31:19Morning.
31:19Morning.
31:20And we are a team, are we not?
31:21We are.
31:21Three cars, three drivers and the rest of us.
31:23I know.
31:24Cars look fantastic.
31:26Look how it's come up, doesn't it?
31:28It's got our logo on.
31:29It's proper.
31:29To be honest, it looks very smart.
31:30Where is our social media guru, Lewis?
31:33Where's he?
31:33Probably still in bed knowing him.
31:34Well, he should be gathering stuff for this today.
31:36Um, so we've got everything we need.
31:38The cars are ready.
31:39You're ready.
31:39Yep.
31:40Oh, you're in social media.
31:47God.
31:48Oh, that's got...
31:51That's got a number on it.
31:52He's got a race suit on.
31:53You are joking.
31:56Are we now four cars?
31:57We are now four cars.
31:58Oh, that's good.
32:00Oh, my God.
32:01And you're taking that one.
32:02Okay, that's going to be fun.
32:04That is going to be a laugh.
32:04That will be...
32:06It's madness, but it'll be a laugh.
32:10The smallest cog is back on track.
32:15And this father and daughter team at Silverstone
32:18should be great for the socials.
32:30I'm on the circuit.
32:32I've touched the circuit.
32:33Look at these perfect socials.
32:34It's amazing.
32:34Look, I'm off.
32:35It is a day out, and it's supposed to be fun.
32:37That's good.
32:38But you are doing social stuff.
32:40Yeah, look.
32:41So this is...
32:42Look casual.
32:44There you go, look.
32:45No, like...
32:46The follow is going to eat it up.
32:55Today's quirky event has been going since the 1950s,
32:58and was the brainchild of author, designer,
33:00and president of the vintage sports car club, Lawrence Pomeroy.
33:04Right.
33:06What happens now?
33:07You get measured.
33:08Ooh.
33:09He was determined to celebrate the touring car,
33:13and today's time trial involves a rather odd handicap system.
33:17Success.
33:18Yep.
33:21According to the rules, a proper grand tourer should be able to whisk one's spouse
33:26to the south of France in comfort with room in the boot for two suitcases.
33:30Brilliant.
33:31Maximum points of what?
33:33Do I get a trophy?
33:34No, not yet.
33:34Oh.
33:36If the cases don't fit, you get slapped with a points penalty.
33:40I'm not going to run.
33:42Friends.
33:42Friends.
33:4420 points.
33:4420 points.
33:4520 points.
33:46That's 40 gone straight away.
33:48On time.
33:49From Miz now, 40 points down against the rest of them.
33:53Good starting.
33:55Stitched up at the start.
33:56So we've got 40 minutes out on track.
34:04The whole thing about this is have fun and be safe.
34:06Come on then, let's go.
34:12To be honest, I really don't care where I end up, or even if I finish.
34:17I'm not in the mood to speak right now.
34:19Are you nervous?
34:19I feel like I'm going to throw up in my helmet.
34:23Because I've just realised that I've allowed my daughter to enter a time trial at Silverstone.
34:29Right, can you do her lid up? I've got to go and get mine on.
34:33Izzy, I'll see you out there.
34:34Hold on, snow, copy, sorry.
34:37I just hope Izzy's okay.
34:40I think it's because I really want to be good at this and like prove that I can be good at this.
34:44What if I'm rubbish?
34:48Sorry, I've forgotten to talk because I'm just thinking about Izzy.
34:53God, I hope she's all right.
34:54If I do this, I can do anything. If I do this, I can do anything.
35:01And I think we are moving out.
35:0340 minutes ahead of us once we get these two formation laps done.
35:07There's my daughter Izzy in her little mini. I cannot believe it.
35:14Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. I'm on Silverstone racetrack.
35:20I'm so nervous.
35:22I feel actually quite sick.
35:30We started? What's going on?
35:34Oh my god, I wasn't ready!
35:40Ha! I knew they'd come.
35:41Oh my god, what's wrong with you? Why are you doing that?
35:56Oh Izzy, I hope you're okay though, darling. I really do.
36:00If you want to overtake, just go. Just literally go.
36:07Right, Izzy, you're in a mini and it will grip. Trust it.
36:12Hopefully Izzy has found some clear air like I'm in now, as we're all broken up a bit,
36:17where you can just concentrate.
36:18Okay, I'm getting better at this. I'm getting better at this.
36:27I think I might be quicker than this car. In front.
36:32Oh, I think I see Isabella.
36:35My little angel is still out here.
36:37You star!
36:38I don't want to overtake you. It feels really rude. I might actually have to and I'm so sorry.
36:46I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm going to do it. I'm sorry. I've overtaken you.
36:51Sorry about that.
36:54Right, Iz. I'm coming at you, darling. That'll be nice.
36:56Oh my god, it's rich! That's my dad!
37:07That is my dad! Yay, now I can follow him!
37:12Right, well Izzy's settled in. That means I can have some fun.
37:16All a bit late on braking there. Asking a bit much of my front wheels. Got carried away.
37:34This is amazing! I'm having the best dive ever!
37:42This is fun!
37:46Anthony is hard on my tail in the MGM.
37:54I can't do anything! Oh no! I've just been overtaken by my own racing car.
38:10Oh what?
38:1412 laps and that is the end!
38:16That was amazing!
38:22I'm so sweaty. I can't. I don't want to take this off because I'm a hot mess under this.
38:34Today has been a roller coaster. An absolute roller coaster.
38:37To have like five cars coming at you at the same time, like either side, is a little bit scary.
38:44But when I got that under control, I was okay. It was really fun and I think I would do it again.
38:52If the aim was to publicize the smallest cog, well we did. We made a load of good social stuff to push the image.
38:59And we had a brilliant time. And I'm really, really pleased and proud of the whole team.
39:04I just need to think of more ways of doing this. More ways of reminding ourselves why.
39:10Why we do it. And keep that energy going.
39:21I'm trying something new. I've gone the extra mile to give Roger and Emma their Aston Martin
39:34Lagonda back. The pink car. Because I mean, it's quite a statement. So it needs a statement.
39:39So I found out they were lunching here. I'm outside the Grevenhouse Hotel in London. So any
39:45minute now, hopefully, Isaac and Lewis are going to arrive with the car in a trailer. It's all put on
39:52my ambassadorial role, taking things to the next level. We're going to be in the way. And being in
40:01the way is my least favorite thing in the world. Needless to say, speed and accuracy are paramount.
40:07Yes. No pressure on young Isaac reversing this, but he's got to do it quickly, but very accurately.
40:16Keep coming. He's locked it. Safety first.
40:21Are you sure? Push the button. Yeah, it's locked. I think.
40:25Oh, no, it's not. I'm just being weak. It's not locked.
40:28We're going to get this off as quick as we can. It's quite slippery.
40:32OK. Oh, it's pink. It's very pink.
40:56It's in position. We're still blocking the driveway of one of London's biggest hotels.
41:01At lunchtime. But it's in. Giving you a bit of a pep and a polish and a dry,
41:08and I think I need to get Isaac on the way. And Isaac, you'll need to clear off out the way,
41:12or we'll stop London. I mean, I know the circumstances aren't the best right now,
41:18but it's great for the socials.
41:19So, in my, uh, husk of getting the car out and making it look beautiful. What have you done?
41:27I might have left my phone in the truck to take this social media content. Could I borrow your phone?
41:32Yes. Really, to do your job, you need two things.
41:34Yeah. A duster. Yes. And a telephone.
41:36A telephone. And you're lacking 50% of them.
41:38Yes. Right, there you go. Thank you very much.
41:40Oh, hello. They're here. Oh, they're here. Perfect timing.
41:42Good. I'll escort them in.
41:51The two colours look brilliant together.
41:53Oh, my goodness. Good afternoon, team. How are we?
41:55We are well. We are well.
41:57Thank you so much. I'll give you some of you.
42:00Thank you very much, Richard.
42:01I think so. Great, right?
42:03Oh, my goodness. It's beautiful.
42:05It's staggering. I mean, it's very striking.
42:08It is very, very striking. Oh, my goodness.
42:12Wow. It's a movie car, isn't it? It's beautiful.
42:15We're very pleased to present it to you, your fabulous pink as one of one.
42:19It's beautiful. One of one in the world.
42:22It's absolutely zero chance you'll ever see another one.
42:25Wow. That's my first reaction. I was really nervous to see what it would turn out like,
42:30but it's absolutely beautiful. It really, really is.
42:33I think it's really timeless. It's really elegant. And it's the only one in the world.
42:38It's done a beautiful job on it. It really is superb.
42:41I think that worked. Yeah, it was. That was fantastic.
42:43And I think she genuinely liked the colour because my sudden thought was,
42:46if she got out of the car and realised she didn't like the colour,
42:48she'd be embarrassed because everybody in London can see it.
42:50Yeah, there you go. Thank you.
42:52How many did you do? What's the socials?
42:54My whole phone is full of pink.
42:56Do you have airdrop? Shall we add this?
42:59Yes. Oh, OK.
43:00I do know what airdrop is.
43:04I think we're learning that happy customers are more than just
43:07doing a good job. I mean, these guys are happy with that car,
43:11but also happy that we went the extra mile to present it to them here.
43:15If we can keep the work coming, keep doing it well,
43:18and keep delivering it with a bit of panache,
43:21well, we can make it.
43:21How can we go from 250 hours of labour to 1,250 hours of labour?
43:32What am I going to say?
43:33Hi, darling. Nice to see you.
43:36Are you ready for your day in the office?
43:37I am.
43:38Now, the type didn't include the VAT.
43:41You lost 20% on that one. It's not looking good.
43:45It's not looking good.
43:48Coming through!
43:49Coming through!
