Cam Jones, he has a hip also, he's been evaluated.
00:03
Same thing with Garrett.
00:05
All right, so Garrett had a couple things that happened in the game.
00:07
He went back in the game on one with his hip,
00:10
and he came out again in that same situation.
00:13
So I'll figure out what that is.
00:15
Disappointing game.
00:18
Man, I thought our guys fought their asses off.
00:21
Obviously wasn't good enough.
00:24
It's tough being close.
00:26
At some point, we've got to finish one of these here,
00:29
and that's been something that we talk about, about how we finish.
00:34
And we didn't finish the way that we needed to to go and get this win.
00:37
Give those guys a lot of credit.
00:40
Defensively, they were all over the place when it comes to their defense.
00:44
But I thought our defense played well.
00:47
It was probably our best game, you know, our defense.
00:50
Guys, the takeaway, I think we were on the better end of the penalties,
00:55
which is positive on both ends.
00:57
But offensively, I mean, they gave it to us, and we all saw that.
01:03
I don't know how many yards we averaged per rush,
01:05
maybe three-some yards a carry.
01:07
I know we ran the ball quite a bit.
01:10
Our passing game was nonexistent,
01:12
and that's something that we've got to get better at.
01:13
Those guys did a really good job of pressuring our quarterback,
01:16
and they are a team that pressures quite a bit.
01:18
So we knew that going in, and it was tough.
01:23
It was tough.
01:24
But there were a lot of good things from a defensive perspective,
01:27
from a special teams perspective that we're going to build on,
01:32
and maybe we're going to go back to the drawing board
01:33
and get some things cleaned up on our offensive side
01:35
and get ready to go to the next game.
01:37
So we put ourselves in this hole.
01:39
We're 0-6, and we claim that.
01:43
But we're going to continue to work and get better.
01:45
That's what we have to do.
01:47
That's what we have to do.
01:48
All right, any questions?
01:49
How do you process being 0-6?
01:52
I might imagine this is not something to force off.
01:55
The same way I process it when I was in Detroit,
01:59
and we were at that.
02:00
It is what it is, and you've got to keep working.
02:03
And no one's going to feel sorry for you.
02:06
So in the same way a lot of these other coaches
02:08
that I've talked to that was in this situation, same thing.
02:13
It's not like this hasn't happened to other teams before.
02:16
We have to keep fighting our ass off,
02:17
and we've got to keep building on the positive that we've shown
02:19
and keep working.
02:21
I know you like to watch the film before you fall to the value,
02:23
but I'm passing him by minus, so I'm in net yards, I think.
02:26
That speaks for itself.
02:27
But Justin in particular, do you feel like he was hesitant
02:30
to go in the way?
02:31
I want to see it.
02:32
I want to see it.
02:33
I will say this.
02:35
When you have a team that pressures that much
02:38
and play that much man coverage,
02:40
sometimes you've just got to give you guys a chance
02:41
to win a one-on-one.
02:43
Again, I don't want to just stamp that,
02:46
but I will think, because of the way they play,
02:48
and I know how advance calls a game,
02:50
that sometimes you've got to give you guys a chance
02:52
in those one-on-one situations.
02:54
Can you tell us what happened at the end of the first half
02:56
with not running a play?
02:59
Yeah.
03:00
So I knew we were getting the ball back,
03:02
and I think it was like third and seven or third and eight.
03:05
And at that point, we didn't know if we got the first down or not,
03:08
because I know one ref was saying yes, and the other one was no.
03:10
So once we got the fourth down, guys,
03:11
I'm not about to sit there and try to get a playoff,
03:14
and they will get the ball back.
03:15
And I think they had a timeout left
03:16
and give them a chance to kick a field goal.
03:18
I don't think that's the smartest thing to do.
03:20
So let's just end the half, we get the ball back,
03:22
and see if we can get a chance to score.
03:23
Do you think you showed enough urgency on that drive,
03:27
even before that play?
03:28
Just, you got the ball back with three minutes left.
03:31
Do you think there was enough urgency altogether on that drive?
03:33
On the last drive?
03:34
The last drive in the first half.
03:35
The last drive in the first half.
03:36
You know, I think we did show enough urgency.
03:39
The thing is, I knew that we were getting the ball back.
03:42
And we talked about this as a staff.
03:43
I want to put us in a situation to where, man, let's go,
03:46
let's try to get some points at halftime and we get the ball back
03:49
in the second half, then we'll try to get points again.
03:52
So that was the whole mindset of that.
03:54
The thing I didn't want to do is give those guys the ball back.
03:57
You know, it happened to us, I think it happened to us last week.
04:01
We ended up giving the team the ball back.
04:02
And I don't want to put our guys in a situation like that again.
04:05
So I think the smart thing to do was, man,
04:07
can we run this clock all the way down?
04:09
Can we get points?
04:10
And then can we come back to the second half and get points again?
04:13
Garrett seemed pretty upset when he was walking off the field.
04:15
At the end of the first half, was that what it was about?
04:17
And what did you talk?
04:18
It seemed like he calmed down.
04:19
I mean, he's a competitive person.
04:21
I mean, who wouldn't be pissed when, you know,
04:26
when things are not going right, you know, on the offensive side of the ball.
04:29
So, I mean, you guys know how he is.
04:30
I mean, that's not going to change.
04:31
I like that about him.
04:33
You know, when things are not going right, he gets pissed.
04:36
In the final two-minute drive, you just got in the first down.
04:40
The passing game wasn't going well all day.
04:42
Did you think of running it on that first down?
04:43
I think Justin got sacked on that.
04:45
Yeah.
04:46
I think, again, I think we were having like three yards a carry.
04:50
I mean, yes, I can easily say we couldn't ran the ball.
04:53
And that's always hindsight.
04:54
But, man, we were trying to get ourselves in the position to where we can get to
04:57
that 35-40 and get a chance to give us a field goal in that situation.
05:01
Where is the line for the field goal there, A.G.?
05:04
Is that a field goal?
05:04
Well, 35 for us.
05:07
Yeah, 35 for us.
05:08
I mean, I know our guy, he kicked a 58-yard.
05:11
That was his career long.
05:13
So, man, we can get to the 35.
05:15
We felt like we were really good in that situation.
05:16
Is there any consideration there on you guys where I think it would have been 64?
05:20
Yeah, so it would have been 64.
05:21
I mean, yeah, that's tough.
05:24
Again, we just said his line was 35, and we're talking about nine yards back.
05:27
I'd say, like, if his career long was 58, which he did this year.
05:30
We were 58, and I think we was, I think it was with the wind and all that.
05:35
So, I just thought that was tough.
05:38
A.G., I understand you probably want to watch the film.
05:40
Yep.
05:41
But Justin's numbers are not good for this game.
05:44
Is he going to be your quarterback next week?
05:47
Come on, man, what kind of question is that?
05:48
Well, you did not have a good game.
05:50
I mean, I think it's a fair play.
05:51
There's a number of guys that, you know, I mean, sometimes this league is like this,
05:55
and there are guys that have bad games.
05:57
That doesn't mean you just bench them.
05:59
Come on, you know better than that.
06:01
The struggles have been, you guys are on six, though.
06:03
Yep.
06:03
This isn't, you know, a team that's two and three or three and three.
06:07
No doubt.
06:07
The quarterback has a bad game.
06:08
It's been, Justin's played a role in some of these offensive struggles.
06:11
No doubt.
06:12
Everybody's played a role in that.
06:13
So, it's not just Justin, because I understand where you guys are trying to take this.
06:17
But, listen, there's a number of other guys that, you know,
06:20
got to pick their game up, too.
06:21
So, I don't want to sit there and pin this all on Justin.
06:24
The broadcast, the television broadcast, is showing a lot of plays where Justin had not been sacked yet.
06:30
The ball's in his hand, and guys are open.
06:32
Yeah.
06:32
Well, I got to see it on tape.
06:34
I don't know where they are on the reads.
06:34
But if he's not pulling the trigger,
06:36
don't you kind of owe it to the rest of the guys on offense to give a guy another chance
06:40
to be the one to throw the ball to?
06:42
Well, I don't see that, you know.
06:44
Sometimes we've got to get him to operate a certain way.
06:47
I mean, that happens to a lot of guys.
06:49
You just can't sit there and say, oh, man, we're going to bench him because this.
06:52
I thought some other games he's played well.
06:54
So, I'm not looking at this as just, man, he played a bad game.
06:57
I'm going to bench him.
06:58
I don't see it that way.
06:59
Last one.
07:02
Before the first game, you told us, last four minutes of each half are the head coaches.
07:06
Absolutely.
07:07
Last four minutes of the first half didn't go great for you guys today.
07:10
Last four minutes didn't go great today.
07:12
Yeah.
07:13
I see it last week in Dallas, first half.
07:15
Yeah.
07:15
How do you feel like you've done it?
07:17
I think the decisions have been the correct decisions.
07:21
You know, sometimes we just didn't execute it.
07:22
And that's okay.
07:23
Just like today's decision was, man, I do not want to give this offense the ball back
07:27
after 49 with a timeout.
07:29
I mean, with time on the clock.
07:31
I don't think that's smart.
07:32
I think what we did, no one was going to get the ball back at second half.
07:35
Man, let's keep it.
07:35
You know, even on this one, we ended up moving the ball, you know, fairly well.
07:40
You know, we just didn't get a chance to, those guys sending a whole lot of pressure
07:43
and sack our quarterback.
07:44
So, we didn't execute.
07:45
I think, you know, I didn't want to put a 45-yard field goal, a 65-yard field goal on our kicker,
07:54
and he's never done that.
07:56
You know, we set the line with the 35.
07:58
So, listen, I do know this.
08:01
I can improve in those situations too, though.
08:03
You know, I'm not going to sit there and just put on the player.
08:06
That's on me also, you know, a number of things.
08:11
But we all have to work together to get better at those things too, though.
08:13
Thanks, everyone.
08:14
Justin's coming in next.
08:15
All right.
08:16
Okay.
