00:00Good evening, Shrewsbury Town fans, and wow, don't pinch yourselves, you've won a home game. Brilliant.
00:07Yep, the first of Michael Appleton's time in charge. The first, actually, since the 1st of February, and that was in League 1, at home to Mansfield.
00:15And wow, long overdue, I think it's fair to say, and to be perfectly honest, entirely deserved.
00:22Goals from George Lloyd and Will Boyle, who captained the side today in John Marquis' absence.
00:27And it was Marquis, actually, who dropped out the side for Lloyd, who came in up front and was just incredibly hard-working.
00:35And that's actually how his goal came about. Putting Michael Morrison under pressure, forcing the mistake, and finishing calmly.
00:43Which is all you can really ask for, for your number 9. And he just did that all game, really.
00:48And again, it was his hard work. About 35, 36 minutes in, they forced a corner, Sam Klukas, left foot, outswing.
00:56And there was Will Boyle, with the captain's armband, like I say, to power home, a header.
01:01And from there, Shrewsbury didn't really need to do anything more.
01:04They were actually only two shots into the game, until about the 75th, maybe 80th minute.
01:11Like I say, it was clinical, it was efficient, and it was entirely what they needed.
01:15And Michael Appleton, after the game, delighted. He said he actually woke up this morning feeling like they were going to win.
01:22Feeling like today was going to be the day they got the monkey off his back, is the words he used.
01:26And they've certainly done that. It's, like I say, a huge win for them.
01:30They're out of the relegation zone after Cheltenham, Steve Cottrell's Cheltenham, conceded a 95th minute equaliser at Gillingham.
01:37And with a home game against Crawley, who sit just one place above them next weekend, feels like the time for Shrewsbury to really kick on and get their season underway.
01:46Like I say, there's a lot of positivity today.
01:48And I think the message from Michael Appleton was that everyone needs to enjoy it, but they've really got to build on this now.
01:54And George Lloyd said the exact same after the game.
01:57You know, he was delighted to score, delighted to be back in the side.
02:00Didn't actually see it as a moment to impress.
02:03He actually just said he was buzzing to be in because he loves playing football.
02:06And I think you could tell that with his performance.
02:08A really strong performance, along with many others.
02:11I thought Sam Stubbs at the back was really good.
02:14Will Boyle as well.
02:15And Taylor Perry in midfield doing what he usually does.
02:18Tom Sang.
02:19I mean, I could name so many of them, but yes, a delightful day for Shrewsbury Town.
02:26I'm buzzing to have been able to cover it.
02:28And all the reaction can be found on ShropshireStar.com.
