Ollie Westbury brings you his analysis as Shrewsbury Town kicked off their new League Two campaign with a goalless draw at home to Bromley.
Transcript
00:00Shrewsbury Town 0-0, Bromley 0-0. Shrewsbury get a point on the opening day of the League 2 season at the Crowdmeadow, a ground bathed in sunshine.
00:11There were five debutants from the start today, we expected there to be quite a lot of debutants and five was the number.
00:20Some talk over, the big talking point before kick-off was whether Eli Harrison was going to, the Manchester United loanee was going to make his first Shrewsbury Town appearance in a league match.
00:29His Football League debut would have been as well, but unfortunately for him, he was ruled out with a badly bruised foot.
00:35Hopefully he will be okay, so Toby Savin played in goal, that was the big talking point.
00:40Savin was perhaps a little bit nervy and a little bit edgy, maybe understandable given what happened last season.
00:48The game itself was a little bit disjointed, probably Bromley had more shots, where Shrewsbury had more of the ball.
00:55Town tried to play some football and in the main, they did okay, just kind of broken down a little bit as they got to the edge of the penalty area.
01:03They didn't really create a chance worthy of note, which was probably the biggest disappointment from a Shrewsbury perspective.
01:10The game was broken up by a 17-minute delay in the first half after the referee, I'm not sure whether he was ill or injured, if you think he was injured.
01:18Sorry, not the referee, it was the linesman, so there was a change and the players left the field, which was in a quite bizarre and, frankly, unprecedented kind of situation.
01:30The teams came back out after half-time, Shrewsbury probably stepped up the gas, but still couldn't really carve out that real clear-cut opening that would have led to a goal.
01:42They kept a clean sheet, which is something that they did not do very often last year, so to tick one of those off on the first game of 46 is always a positive start.
01:50There were some good performances in there. Most people just did okay, I think that was it, it was okay.
01:55It was a 6 out of 10 day, 6 out of 10 probably performance from the team.
02:00They won a little bit more going forward, but in the main, they never really looked, Toby Savvy never really had to make a save,
02:06and they never really looked like they were going to lose the game.
02:09So there's some positive signs there, Bromley a side that finished in the top half of League 2 last year,
02:15and Michael Apperton saying himself that if Town can find that extra 25-30% that he believes they have,
02:22then if they've got a 0-0 draw against them when they're still quite a bit off the pace,
02:26then things will be okay this season.
