India and the United Kingdom have taken a major step forward in their strategic partnership as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer announced a $468 million defence deal in Mumbai. The agreement covers the supply of Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM) systems and a framework for maritime electric propulsion technology under India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to maritime security in the Indo-Pacific, joint defence design and production, and critical technology collaboration in AI, climate innovation, and renewable energy. The two leaders also discussed global stability, the Ukraine and Gaza conflicts, and the importance of democracy and the rule of law in the modern world.

The meeting also saw the launch of new initiatives including a Climate Technology Startup Fund, Joint AI Research Centre, and an Industry Guild for Critical Minerals. Modi called the partnership with the UK “trustworthy, driven by talent and technology.”
