00:00Good morning, Nick. How are you?
00:01What's going on? Bill Belichick doesn't have dementia. He's just horny. That's it.
00:06That's it. Both can be true.
00:08That is it. He's letting the pee cloud his judgment.
00:11Listen, we've all been there. It's happened to the best of us. I get it.
00:15I saw your impassioned defense of Bill on the social medias,
00:18and it warmed my heart that the old Giants fan is still standing up and defending the wall.
00:24Yeah, well, I mean, just, well, because you know this, and you've already done this kind of,
00:28and we've been through this, because what's going to happen is his coaching career is going to be,
00:33and I hope this isn't the case, is going to be retconned by what's happened with North Carolina
00:38and then the last couple of years in New England.
00:40And all I would say is, while acknowledging, Curtis, that you're right that Brady's more to do with the success.
00:46There's no question about it, right?
00:48But Bill is still, and if you want to make the case he's not the greatest NFL coach ever,
00:52he's certainly on the short list.
00:54And prior to being the best head coach ever, or one of the best head coaches ever,
00:58he's probably the best defensive coordinator in the history of the NFL.
01:02And, like, I don't think that's arguable.
01:04And, you know, for younger football fans who don't know Bill Belichick as the defensive coordinator,
01:08like, watch Super Bowl XXV.
01:10Like, that defensive game plan's in Canton, in the Hall of Fame, where he said,
01:13we're going to let Thurman Thomas run for 135 yards, and that's how we're going to win the game,
01:18and they won the game.
01:19And so I just feel like I think he's going to get dragged through the mud,
01:22and deservedly so for some of this stuff.
01:24But I don't want this to become like, actually, he was bad.
01:27Because it's not true.
01:28No.
01:29And it's not deserved.
01:30And, Nick, and the one thing I said, and, you know, I was fortunate to be around both Bill and Tom,
01:35and I said this, and I'll say this, and I think Tom would also echo it.
01:39But if Bill gets fired after the first year in New England, he probably goes on to be a great defensive coordinator,
01:47and maybe even gets another opportunity.
01:50But we never know who Tom Brady is.
01:53Tom never gets a chance, because Bill gives him that chance.
01:56He probably just becomes a career backup, and he's, you know, fighting his way for any piece of scraps that he can get.
02:02But Bill is the one who, in 2001, when we, some of us on the team, were like, wow, damn, Bill, what is you doing?
02:09He said, we're going with Tom Brady as our starting quarterback over Drew Bledsoe, who we just paid a ton of money.
02:15And that ultimately led to Tom having the opportunity to be the player he is, or was.
02:21And I'll say this, just like, and I remember, and I've been watching football my whole life,
02:25so that's, you know, January 2002, I'm 18.
02:28And, you know, Brady gets hurt in the AFC Championship game in Pittsburgh,
02:33and Troy Brown obviously has a great punt return in that game,
02:36and Bledsoe comes off the bench, and like, I don't think he, like, wins the game,
02:38but, like, he's good enough, and the Patriots win.
02:40And I remember having a conversation with my dad and saying, like, they've got to play Bledsoe in the Super Bowl.
02:46Like, how do you not play Bledsoe now after he just came off the bench, and it was his job?
02:51And I remember thinking, like, when it was announced that Brady was going to play,
02:54not that, like, Brady, not that he sucks, like, that wasn't what I thought,
02:58but I remember even thinking they should go with Bledsoe.
03:01Brady plays in the game, and obviously, you know, the rest is history.
03:04They win 20-17, and they cheated, but they won.
03:06Sorry.
03:08But they did cheat, but they won.
03:11And then the rest is history.
03:12Wait, wait, who's they, just so we're accurate here, given who we're talking about?
03:15Not Jermaine Wiggins.
03:17I just like to know.
03:18Wait, hold on, but who's they?
03:19I mean, it's really not they, right?
03:20Who did?
03:21I guess it's Bill, or?
03:22Oh, okay, I mean, I guess it's Bill.
03:24Right.
03:25In what way?
03:25Because there's always this mysterious walk to us.
03:28Honestly, I'll just say this, Wiggy.
03:30I said that.
03:31I'm not, like, you know way more about this than me.
03:33I said that more as, like, as a joke than anything else.
03:35Oh, okay.
03:36I will.
03:36I am not bringing a knife to a gunfight here.
03:38I'm sure you are right.
03:39I will back off.
03:41Appreciate that one.
03:42I have a couple games I like, Costos.
03:43I know we'll get to our betting insider.
03:45What do you think about Lions plus two and a half this weekend?
03:49That's one I liked.
03:51So, I love the Chiefs.
03:53But we got to wait until this afternoon because Xavier Worthy, who is obviously, like, one of the most important players on the team on the offense,
04:01until Rasheed Rice comes back.
04:03And then Rice is the best player, not named Mahomes.
04:05He didn't practice yesterday, and that was a surprise because he practiced on Wednesday, and he played well for Kansas City on Monday night.
04:11So, my guess is that he'll practice today, but if he doesn't, and his status is kind of unclear going into Sunday night,
04:18then it changes things because the whole handicap as to why I like the Chiefs and for someone else to like the Chiefs would be,
04:24and Curtis, I think this is what's problematic for Detroit in this matchup, and it becomes way easier if Worthy doesn't play.
04:30Their secondary is in tatters right now, and we could just focus on their two top corners.
04:35DJ Reed's on IR.
04:37Terry and Ardell definitely missing this game, and we'll see how much longer he's going to be out for.
04:41And, you know, like the Chiefs lost on Monday, but Mahomes looks great throwing the ball.
04:46And this Chiefs offense, to me, looks like it did a number of years ago, not like what it was last year and what it's been thus far this year.
04:53I think the Chiefs put up a big number in the game.
04:55I love the Chiefs to win the game, but really need Xavier Worthy to play to really feel strongly about that on Sunday.
05:01Nick, do you stay away from the Niners-Bucks game, especially with Brock Purdy seemingly being out,
05:08and then now Mac Jones has this knee injury?
05:09So let's see.
05:11So Mac is going to play.
05:12Let's see where we're at.
05:13Okay, so the point spread of the game is three.
05:15The total is 47.5.
05:17I think everything here is correct.
05:20The total should be exactly what it is.
05:22It's exactly what I would say it should be.
05:24And I only say that because 41, 44, 47 key numbers when you talk about totals.
05:29It should be a little bit more than 47.
05:31I think both offenses have strategic advantages here.
05:34The Niners have no pass rush without Nick Bosa, none, zero.
05:38And they should be able to score a lot in this game.
05:40And on the flip side, think about what the Niners did last Thursday night against the Rams,
05:45just picking on those Rams linebackers relentlessly.
05:48They're going to be able to do the exact same thing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebackers in this game.
05:52So I think both offenses should have success.
05:54Make me bet the game.
05:56I guess I would begrudgingly take three with San Francisco because I feel like I might push.
06:00I will not have a bet on this game on Sunday.
06:03All right, Nick.
06:03I asked you last week.
06:04I had a cup of coffee down there.
06:07And Duval, are the Jacksonville Jaguars for real?
06:13They're going to be hosting the Seahawks.
06:15And I know the Seahawks had a shootout with Tampa Bay.
06:18Tell me what's up with Jacksonville, man.
06:21So I loved Wiggy Jacksonville coming into the year.
06:25So I bet them to win the AFC South.
06:28I bet them to make the playoffs.
06:29My thesis for Jacksonville was I felt like the offense with Liam Cohen coming over was going to be explosive with Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter.
06:38And really, they've gotten this done.
06:40They really should be 5-0.
06:42The loss to Jake Browning in Week 2 looks worse by the day.
06:45It's really been on the strength of this defense that's forcing tons of turnovers.
06:49Now, I'm going to throw out a nerdy statistic that honestly, like, I only know this because I listen to people way smarter than me talk.
06:57The Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night had an offensive success rate of, like, 100%.
07:03Like, the pick six changed the game.
07:07The Devin Lloyd pick.
07:07It was a great play by him.
07:09It was.
07:09It was like James Harrison in Super Bowl XLIII against the Cardinals.
07:12Kind of similar.
07:13But Kansas City's offense marched up and down the field on the Jaguars' defense.
07:19And while I think the Chiefs are better than Seattle, Seattle's defense is way better than Kansas City's defense.
07:27I'm not going to have a bet on this game, I don't think.
07:30But if you made me bet the game, Wiggy, I actually would bet Seattle to win the game on Sunday.
07:35Wow.
07:35All right.
07:35And because that's the one thing I've noticed.
07:37And, like, I've heard some, you know, you go to social media and see it.
07:41The whole Travis Hunter thing, like, he's really done nothing.
07:44And they don't know what to do with him, whether it's offense or defense.
07:48And I thought that they were going to really utilize him.
07:51But it's been the strength of their defense.
07:53If they just make him a receiver, he'd probably be awesome.
07:56I actually, now look, like, Wiggy, I'll always defer to you on this stuff.
08:00Because, like, you played and, like, won a championship at the highest level.
08:03My opinion, I actually, like, fully agree with Scheim.
08:05Like, it's too much for him.
08:07Right.
08:07Like, he doesn't, he only knows one position on offense right now, and it's slot receiver.
08:12He lines up incorrect.
08:13And it's not a commentary on him.
08:15Like, he's going to be awesome.
08:16Like, no one thinks he's bad.
08:18He just, like, he's playing, he's guarding Travis Kelsey on the first drive of the game on defense.
08:24And then he's expected to be, like, a stud receiver on offense in, like, his fifth game as a rookie.
08:28Right.
08:28And he's coming from a system in Colorado where, like, the offense was either, like, run past this guy or take a screen pass and run past, like, three insurance salesmen.
08:36So, like, I think it's going to be fine.
08:38If I were telling them what to do and no one's asking me for my opinion on this stuff, I would make him a full-time receiver this year and save defense for next year.
08:46Yeah, I would agree with you.
08:46Nick, I know you've been high on the Patriots this season.
08:50Is this week a trap game?
08:51By the way, I was right about Drake May, though, right?
08:54What I said last year.
08:56Stud?
08:57Absolute stud.
08:58Trust me, I have been on the Drake May bandwagon since before he was even a Patriot.
09:01Why do you always got to, like, jock me for credit, man?
09:03I'm the guest on the show.
09:04You can't just be like, great job, Nick.
09:05You got to be like, I said it, too.
09:07Hey, that's why I was giving you credit for being high on the Patriots this season.
09:10You were higher than me.
09:11He's a narcissist.
09:12Yes, he is.
09:15He takes one to no one.
09:16We've been talking about this all week.
09:18Is this a trap game for the Pats against the Saints coming off a big win against the Bills?
09:21Impossible to know until the game's played.
09:23I thought Stephon Diggs had an awesome quote this week where he said,
09:26this is almost a bigger challenge for us than last week was as a big dog on the road in Buffalo
09:31because now the expectation is that you're supposed to win.
09:35And in the betting market, not only is the expectation, guys, that they're supposed to win,
09:39but they have to win by margin.
09:41They're more than a three-point favorite, which means, like, more than likely, the game can land four.
09:46Like, they're going to need to win by, like, six, seven, or ten points to cover the spread in this game.
09:51I always talk about injuries because they're important.
09:53Do we think Christian Gonzalez is playing in the game?
09:56That hamstring, too.
09:57It's like, you've got to get away from that injury.
09:59That worries me.
10:00I think he plays.
10:01Yeah, I think he plays, too.
10:02So I also think he plays because he did practice in a limited fashion yesterday,
10:06but this is the kind of thing that gives you a little pause and a little concern, right?
10:10Make me bet the game.
10:12I'll take the Patriots.
10:13I would probably just put them in a Moneyline parlay.
10:16But I'm probably going to be on the sidelines on this one.
10:18What I would like to see from New England is let's turn the backfield over mostly to Travion Henderson.
10:26Let's see Stephon Diggs continue to look like he did on Sunday night.
10:29If the Patriots are the team I think they are and can be, I don't want to say, like, they should win by 50 or they should cover the spread,
10:37but they should win on – they are better than the New Orleans Saints.
10:41And I'm not going to bet the game, so I'm not interested in that.
10:45What I am interested in is someone who bet the Patriots to make the playoffs before the year.
10:49And over the win total, go and win the game on Sunday in a game that you should win on the road.
10:54All right, Nick, last one for me here.
10:56It's got a couple questions in there, but they'll be relatively quick.
11:01Did Dayball –
11:01It's your show, buddy.
11:02Whatever you want.
11:02Did Dayball save his job?
11:04And if you were the Patriots, would you be pursuing A.J. Brown very hard in a trade?
11:12Wow.
11:12Oh, I love that second question.
11:14So did Dayball save his job?
11:16Like, not yet.
11:17Okay.
11:17I mean, it was big for him, but what if they lose, like, every game the rest of the year?
11:20He's like, he's going to get fired.
11:21But, I mean, that was a great sign for him last night.
11:24And, like, there's a lot that goes into what happened last night.
11:26I'll just say, like, my sister actually texted me, like, a half hour ago.
11:30It was like, tell me about the game last night.
11:32And what I said to her is, and it's the truth, like, you can make a lot of excuses for the Eagles.
11:35Bottom line, like, the Giants kind of, like, kicked their ass.
11:38Like, they really did.
11:39It was a really impressive performance by the Giants.
11:41As far as A.J. Brown goes, should the Patriots consider it?
11:45Yes.
11:47And, like, Elliott Wolfe kind of said that they would consider making a move like that before the start of the year, right?
11:51He gave that nebulous quote, like, hey, if there's someone out there and we could trade a first or second round pick for him, we'll consider it.
11:57So, should the Patriots be interested?
11:59Like, definitely.
12:01I cannot imagine a world where the Eagles trade him.
12:04Really?
12:05I mean, they won the Super Bowl last year.
12:08Like, they're 4-2.
12:10Right, but sometimes it's addition by subtraction.
12:14And that locker room, and I've been in locker rooms before, that thing is fractured.
12:19A.J. Brown does not like Jalen Hurts.
12:23I don't care what anybody...
12:24But who cares?
12:24But he has the air of...
12:26A.J. Brown is the air of Devontae Smith.
12:29And it's almost like Devontae Smith and A.J. Brown versus Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts.
12:36And the offensive coordinator is not doing the right thing.
12:39And I think they want to remove A.J. Brown because he's a captain.
12:43Yeah, the offensive coordinator, Kevin Petullo.
12:46Disgrace to Italians right now.
12:49So, here's what I'd say about this.
12:51And why I...
12:52I guess, like, your overall point is correct, Wiggy.
12:55But in this specific instance, I pretty strongly disagree.
12:59Because...
13:00And, like, I'm a huge Jalen Hurts fan.
13:03Like, I think he's awesome.
13:05I think I'm one of, like, his biggest defenders.
13:07Not that...
13:08I don't think he needs to be defended anymore after winning Super Bowl MVP.
13:11But he gets killed a lot still by people in the media and otherwise.
13:15But, like, the thing that you could say that's true about Jalen Hurts, even if you're a big fan like I am, is...
13:20He needs, like, things around him to be going well in order to be playing at his optimum level, right?
13:25Like it was last year, like, down the stretch when they were the best team in the league and obviously won the Super Bowl.
13:30I don't think that Hurts...
13:32If we're talking, like, Mahomes, and you take A.J. Brown away...
13:36Okay, like, Mahomes is good enough to elevate everybody else on the team.
13:39I don't know if Jalen Hurts is that...
13:41While acknowledging he's still great...
13:42I don't even mean this as an insult.
13:44I don't think he's that player.
13:46And then you have to consider...
13:47Okay, if A.J. Brown's gone...
13:50Like...
13:51Okay, so if they make this trade with the Patriots...
13:53Do the Eagles get Stephon Diggs back?
13:55No.
13:56Like, do they get Kyle Williams back?
13:57No.
13:58Do they get Kayshaun Booty?
13:59Do they get DeMario Douglas?
14:01Like, who do they get back?
14:02Because then your two-wide receiver set is Devontae Smith and Jahan Dotson.
14:06Dotson's not scaring anybody.
14:08Okay, great.
14:08Now you're a defensive coordinator and your job's way easier.
14:11Now we just take Devontae Smith out of the game.
14:13How do they have a passing offense?
14:15You don't have one.
14:16Like, you have to have A.J. Brown on the field because without him, like, you have nothing else.
14:20He draws so much coverage away.
14:22That's what makes Devontae Smith have these shots down the field.
14:24Or Dallas Goddard open down the seam.
14:26I think the offense becomes infinitely easier to defend without A.J. Brown.
14:30And the other thing is, is the offensive line is way worse this year in Philly than it was last year.
14:35And that's why they can't run the ball.
14:36It's not because Saquon shot.
14:37Like, Landon Dickerson's hurt.
14:39The guard Tyler Steen that replaced Mekhi Becton isn't any good.
14:42Lane Johnson's not 100% healthy.
14:44I think if you take A.J. Brown out, that's like the piece in the Jenga tower.
14:48That son of a bitch comes crumbling down.
14:49So if the Patriots could swing it, hell yeah, man, you do it.
14:53I can't imagine the Eagles would want to do that.
14:55Kostos, greatly appreciate your time.
14:57We are way late.
14:58I know you've got a catchphrase to get to, so let's get to it.
15:00And thank you, my friend.
15:01Have a great weekend.
15:02Wishing everybody minimal sweats, winning bets, the absolute very best of luck.
15:05Go Giants!
15:05Go Yankees!
15:06Peace!
15:07That's it.
15:08That's it.
