Are the Pats for real? This week will tell us. Betting insider, Nick Kostos joins!
Transcript
00:00Let's start with the Pats this week. How are we feeling?
00:03I feel like we're going to find out one way or another how real the Patriots are.
00:07I do think the Patriots will make the playoffs when it's all said and done.
00:11Maybe even when the AFC East and this week can maybe go a pretty long way towards deciding that.
00:16I think the thing that I feel most confident in as far as the Patriots go on Sunday is that they're going to score.
00:23Drake May is absolutely legit, and you guys know I've been saying it since last year that I think he's going to be awesome.
00:29And he obviously is awesome and is a deserved MVP candidate.
00:33I guess my consternation on this game comes on the Tampa side, where Tampa's offensive line should be the healthiest it's been all season coming out of the bye week.
00:43And I'm curious if Emeka Igbuka is going to have the same type of success against Christian Gonzalez that Drake London did last weekend.
00:49You know, if Parker Romo makes that extra point, maybe Atlanta wins that game.
00:53And I know they had a chance at the end with the ball.
00:55But who knows if the game is tied as opposed to trailing, like how differently that goes.
00:59I feel like Drake May is going to play well in the game.
01:02I don't know how well the Patriots defense is going to hold up against Tampa's offense.
01:07I don't think I'm going to bet the game.
01:09If I had to, I think I would lay Tampa.
01:12I'm going to be watching this one with a keen eye.
01:15I think we'll learn a lot about both these teams on Sunday.
01:18And obviously for your audience cares way more about the Patriots.
01:21I think the question we'll be able to answer, like come January, how legit are the Patriots actually going to be?
01:29And can they actually stand toe to toe with some of the best teams in the league?
01:33I know they won at Buffalo on Sunday night about a month ago.
01:36But on this win streak that they're on, it's been mostly cupcakes.
01:39Go beat the Bucks in Tampa and we can have a different conversation about this team moving forward.
01:43I was just going to say, just a reminder, last week you were completely off when it came to the Pats.
01:49I said the Falcons were going to win.
01:51They missed an extra point to tie the game with like two and a half minutes left.
01:53No, you said you bet the Pats hammer 16 if they're going to win.
01:58No, no, no.
01:58Well, hold on.
02:00If you're going to quote me, quote me properly.
02:02What I said was, if you like the Patriots, because this is what Atlanta does, then I would lay Patriots alt.
02:08What I want to do is bet the Falcons to win the game because Atlanta is such a high variance team.
02:14So on the New England part of it, I was wrong.
02:16But what I said was, I'm going to bet Atlanta money line.
02:18And look, I was wrong about that also.
02:20But obviously the extra point gets made and maybe we have a different conversation.
02:23Look, I lost the bet.
02:25I'm not trying to say I won the bet.
02:26But I thought that part of it at least was pretty spot on.
02:29And actually had a we had a very high, not the head coach, but a person high up in the Patriots front office who came in and first words were, wow, that Costos guy was wrong.
02:41I think it was the Bills one that really got everybody.
02:44I think Costos, you were like, KC is going to really separate from the Bills.
02:49I think that was the one that people were kind of putting your feet to the fire a little bit on.
02:54Yeah.
02:54And that's and look.
02:55Like, I'm going to be wrong.
02:58Everybody's going to be wrong.
02:59I think that's a kind of like it's not an excuse.
03:01Right.
03:02Like I say all the time on the show, if I won all my bets, like I wouldn't be doing this interview like I'd live on.
03:07I'd be on a yacht somewhere.
03:09And that's kind of like the dirty little secret about the sports betting media is all the people that are doing sports betting media.
03:15If we all won our bets, all of them like we'd be on an island somewhere.
03:19Right.
03:20So I'm I'm I'm going to be wrong like it's going to happen.
03:23And and that's OK.
03:24Like no one wins all the time.
03:26You win 55 percent of the time, 57 percent of the time that you're doing great.
03:29Look, I loved Kansas City last week.
03:32Buffalo, like shove them in a locker.
03:34And I'll give the Bills a ton of credit, Wiggy.
03:35Like they won the game by seven.
03:37That's a flattering final score to Kansas City with how well the Bills defense played in that game and how they really kind of push them around up front.
03:46Now, I'm not going to like take the result of that game and move off my chief's opinion.
03:51I still think the chiefs are the best team in the league.
03:53And by the way, not that this is indicative of what's going to happen, but it's funny.
03:56Right.
03:57You wake up on Monday morning, the chiefs get creamed by Buffalo and guess who the Super Bowl favorite is like it's still Kansas City.
04:05And now there are two and a half games behind the Broncos.
04:07They play in Denver next week.
04:08And the betting market's just doing like the shrug emoji.
04:11Like, OK, great.
04:12They're five and four.
04:13Same record as the Panthers.
04:14Also team most likely to win the Super Bowl.
04:16So I was wrong last week about the chiefs and pretty spectacularly like the Bills killed them in the game.
04:22I still think when it's all said and done, the chiefs are going to win the Super Bowl.
04:25Well, Nick, here's the one for me, because I think at the before the season, I had them maybe winning the NFC or at least in the NFC championship game.
04:34The Green Bay Packers, they're going to be hosting the Eagles.
04:39I know they lost last week.
04:41The Packers lost to Carolina on a last second field goal.
04:45So where are the Packers?
04:46Are they for real or what's this game going to tell us?
04:50Yeah, they're a Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde team, right, where they have stretches like early in the season, the second half against the Steelers a couple of weeks ago on Sunday Night Football, where you can watch them and say, like, this is the best team in the league or at least the team that's most likely to win the NFC.
05:08Like, they have that gear that they can hit.
05:11But then they'll have these games where they lay like Humpty Dumpty sized eggs.
05:14Like, losing on the road in Cleveland in week three and up big at the end of the game and blowing it and losing 13-10.
05:21Last week against Carolina, like, these are like unconscionable, like unforgivable losses by the Packers with how talented they are.
05:28And the way they outplay these teams and find a way, like, the tie on Sunday Night Football against the Cowboys was ludicrous.
05:34So, almost like, what do you do with this team?
05:36A team that, when they take the field, any given, you know, Sunday, Thursday, Monday, you know, Christmas could be played on a Wednesday and the NFL will play a game.
05:43That's just my part.
05:44I hate the war on Christmas by the NFL.
05:46But anyway, where the Packers can take the field and be the best team on the field no matter who they're playing.
05:51They also can take the field and make, like, the Cleveland Browns look really good.
05:55So, I think Monday Night, for me, is going to come down to trust when I bet this game.
06:00I trust the Eagles way more than I trust the Packers right now.
06:03Like, this iteration of Green Bay, while acknowledging, Wiggy, that the Packers, if the Packers play their A-plus game and they're at home, like, they should be able to win this game by three or more.
06:15I don't trust them, so I'll back the Eagles.
06:17Will I be shocked if the Packers win?
06:19No.
06:20But will I bet on Green Bay?
06:21Also, no.
06:22I'll have some money on Philly on Monday Night.
06:24Uh, Kostos, you just said the NFL's war on Christmas, so it begs the question, are you a, as soon as Halloween's over, I'm in Christmas mode guy?
06:32Or are you a, I need to wait until after Thanksgiving guy?
06:35Because you strike me as a big fan of Christmas.
06:37Oh, I love, yeah.
06:38I, so this is not meant to be an insult to Thanksgiving, which is a great holiday.
06:43I kind of look at, like, Thanksgiving as, like, an appetizer for Christmas.
06:47Yeah.
06:47Like, Thanksgiving is, like, the first 10-pole event, like, in the Christmas season.
06:51So, I have already started, and, like, my wife, like, loves it also, which is great, because we love this time of year.
06:57Like, for, like, my daughter, like, she's, she's still really young, but, like, I can't wait to enjoy Christmas with her.
07:01Yeah, like, we, I already, I'm listening to Christmas music.
07:04And I know, like, a lot of people, oh, how could you like Christmas music?
07:07Good, good.
07:08Do whatever the hell you want.
07:09I don't care what you do.
07:10What's your go-to Christmas song?
07:13Oh, wow.
07:14If you had to just pick one.
07:15Um, so many good ones.
07:16Nat King Cole, the Christmas song, is, I think, the gold standard.
07:20Oh, wow.
07:21But, um, but I will say, I, I generally trend towards more, like, the religious Christmas songs, and that doesn't mean, like, church version.
07:30So, like, my second favorite Christmas song, I would say, is Andy Williams' version of Oh, Holy Night.
07:36Right.
07:36Which I, which I would encourage people to listen to.
07:38Right.
07:38I, yeah, this is, Christmas music is one of my favorite things.
07:42So, I recently, my wife and I, like, right around Christmas time, are going to a string.
07:47So, it's all going to be, like, like, violin, like, cello, etc.
07:50Like, an hour and a half long concert of Christmas carols, and, like, famous Christmas songs, and church songs, like, done on strings.
07:57Like, I, like, I love this stuff.
07:59It's one of my favorite things.
08:00May I suggest the Glee version of the Christmas album?
08:05They do, like, um, a bunch of different church songs, but Glee version.
08:10I think you would really enjoy.
08:11Costos is a total Glee.
08:12I have no doubt.
08:13Yeah.
08:14I, I don't, I don't, like, I've never watched that show, but I am sure that I would enjoy, like, like, what you're talking about.
08:20Yeah, it's the, it's the green album cover.
08:22If you could give it a listen this week, and we can, we can circle back.
08:25We just did, we just did, like, we listened to the Buble album recently, which I don't think is one of the best, but it's very good.
08:30The Michael Buble album.
08:31I would also recommend for a nice night out, Costos, uh, Brett Eldridge, the country singer, does an entire Christmas-specific tour.
08:38Big band, the whole thing, he's got the crooner voice going on, the tuxedo, the whiskey.
08:43Yeah, I love it.
08:43It's a nice night.
08:44I would say for people, like, obviously, like, Nat King Cole's The Christmas Song is really famous, and it's really spectacular.
08:50It's my favorite.
08:51If we're gonna go Nat King Cole, it's Oh Come All Ye Faithful.
08:53Oh, well, that's, see, but here's, here's the, like, there are, there are no bad choices when it comes to Nat King Cole's Christmas album.
09:01I agree.
09:01Like, I'll tell you what, the most underrated song on that album is I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing In on Christmas Day in the Morning.
09:08It's super underrated.
09:10Um, I would tell people, if you want to get in the Christmas spirit, listen to, it has to be Andy Williams' version and not the live version, the album version of Oh Holy Night.
09:20We'll get you right in the Christmas spirit.
09:21I'll listen to Andy Williams' version, and I like Christmas music, too.
09:24Me too.
09:24Maybe it's cold outside.
09:26Can we play that now?
09:26No, cancel.
09:27Is that Dean Martin song still canceled?
09:28I think they took it back.
09:29Well, no, they, no, they, you, I, I hear it on the radio, and just as far as, can I give a take on, like, on, on Dean Martin very quickly, or do we, okay.
09:38Okay, so, like, Sinatra is obviously the gold standard, and I, I love all this type of music.
09:45Dean Martin is the 1A to Sinatra's 1B, and I wouldn't, and I don't know how hard to take that is.
09:50I think people really like Dean Martin.
09:51The, uh, the best Dean Martin song is On An Evening in Roma, and I would encourage people to listen to that as well.
09:57Dean Martin, just, like, a notch below Frank Sinatra on this scale.
10:01All right, well, there you have it.
10:02Nick Costo's not only giving us betting advice, but also Christmas song advice, and that's why we love you.
10:07I, I love you, too.
10:08I appreciate it.
10:09All right.
10:09Is that it?
10:10Do I do my catchphrase now, or you have more?
10:11Uh, no, that's it.
10:12I would, I would love to hear your catchphrase.
10:14Uh, great.
10:15Wishing everybody minimal sweats, winning bets, the absolute very best of luck, and allow me, I'll steal a Chris Berman line here, of which I have stolen many in my career.
10:22Allow me to be the first to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas.
10:26Great, there you go.
10:27There you go.
10:27Thank you so much, Nick.
10:28And that was your host of You Bet or You Bet, uh, the Odyssey Sports Betting Insider, Nick Costo.
