00:00I just got home my back door is kicked in and my girl ain't answering the phone okay what's your
00:22name my name is Christopher Jackson my son's inside with her and everything I'm about to go
00:27in is your is going on okay why don't you just wait for officers I'll get them over there all right
00:32thank you every suspect accused of a crime has the right to remain silent many agree to be
00:43interrogated anyway but they can stop the interview at any moment making it a race against time
00:50justice hangs in the balance
00:54when officers arrived on scene they saw Christopher Jackson standing in the driveway he reported that
01:14he had just arrived home from working the overnight shift and found that his back door
01:19was kicked open he was upset very anxious Chris stated that his fiancee Angela was inside the house
01:28and also their young son he believes is still in the house you could just see the the look on Chris's
01:34face that he knew something was wrong and he was fearing the worst officers found the back door of
01:41the house appeared to be kicked in there was a noticeable boot print on the white door the doorframe
01:49itself was fractured broken splintered there were four of us that went inside we don't know what's going
02:02on in there we don't know if someone's being held hostage we don't know if someone's waiting around the
02:07corner so we just went room by room the officers made their way into a living room area they did
02:13not notice anything that would be considered out of the ordinary it was fairly clean and picked up
02:20they went down the hallway where they found two bedrooms one was locked they searched the other room
02:28across the hall and that's where they found the young child inside of his crib he appeared to have
02:33been sleeping wasn't harmed he was seemed in good condition one of the officers picked up the child
02:38took him outside and brought him to his father he was relieved to see that his child was unharmed but
02:46that very quickly changed to concern about why isn't Angela out after that was completed is when we
02:53prepared to enter through the locked door I stood next to the door while another officer kicked the door open
03:00they could see a large bed and as you walked in you could immediately see that there was blood on the bed
03:12and there appeared to be somewhat of a scuffle
03:19as I turned the corner between the bed and the wall I saw a younger white female laying on the floor
03:28she was laying on her back appeared to be wearing sleeping clothes covered in blood
03:32it became apparent that she had suffered multiple stab wounds
03:40they were able to determine that the victim was uh Angela Wilder and that she was in fact deceased
03:49Angela grew up in Alabama she was very southern always nice always polite I don't think there was one
03:56time where she didn't call me miss crystal she ended up in Minot North Dakota and that's where
04:02I met her in nursing school she had a full scholarship for nursing it was like fulfilling a dream
04:11she liked interior decorating I said the only thing I have hanging on my walls is a clock and she
04:18said I could totally come over and hope you figure out where to hang all your pictures
04:24she always talked about how Chris is so sweet and he took the brunt of a lot of the household things
04:29because she was so busy with nursing school she always said nice wonderful things about him and her children
04:37she did talk about her kids a lot and how much she loved them
04:40she had so much more than just a bright future ahead of her she had her children's lives to watch
04:48them grow up when they looked at Angela's body they could see blood coagulating behind her head on the floor
05:16and on the back of her neck which told us that she had been dead at least some hours
05:24it appeared there might have been some possible dna underneath her fingernails it appeared that she
05:29may have scratched or at least fought briefly with her attacker so they collected swabs
05:36with the amount of times that she was stabbed we definitely knew that whoever attacked Angela
05:41had anger and definitely wanted her dead
05:52it did raise a red flag to me that Christopher Jackson did not go into the home when he initially
05:57arrived home that morning we all feel the first thing we would do would be rush in and check on our
06:03loved ones so at this point we told him we wanted to speak to him and asked him to voluntarily come down to
06:10the police department
06:20where are you
06:26um
06:39um where do you work at walmart walmart ok what do you do at walmart stock
06:45talk okay what are the hours gonna my hours are like 10 7. okay so you're going to work at 10
06:53does she give you a right to work then yeah okay so walk me through what happened this morning
07:00i always call her on break okay just to see how she's doing just to talk to her
07:07because over the nights what times break break is five did you call her at five yeah okay and how
07:16did that call her it did i figured okay she's just tired but she always picks up whenever i call her
07:26what time does she usually heat you up from work she's usually there about seven and she's not out
07:33there this morning and i keep calling her and she's not picking up the phone
07:43so i call the taxi i get to the house so i walk around back and the door is open
07:53there's something in my stomach just felt wrong so i called the cops
08:07my guys go in and they come back out there's still no angela
08:23looking at chris the way he's sitting right there he's pretty open it's not like he's trying to hide
08:29anything you know he's not crossed legs not crossed arms he seemed genuinely hurt in that and heartbroken
08:36at that point was angela working at that point no she just got to go nursing home you guys argue
08:41oh yeah of course room relationship oh i'm in your home you guys leave the doors unlocked except for the
08:48front door and the back door always leave a room
08:51how was your relationship now with angela oh it was very stable
09:00okay okay um we went up to billions
09:05like earlier this week because she was excited because she got a pregnancy test
09:14so
09:20she was trying to keep it a secret from me for uh christmas
09:27she kind of glowed a little bit so
09:30i could tell by the way he talked about angela that he really did love her
09:35his reactions his emotions everything seemed very appropriate
09:41i had no evidence that led us to believe that there was anything toxic in his relationship with angela
09:49my initial gut feeling at that point was that
09:52he probably was not the one who
09:55murdered angela
09:56what's your guys typical evening like before you go to work
10:00we're shut nothing seems out of place
10:02you want by the front window in between the front
10:05there's people that might not like her but i don't think anybody would be to that point
10:11i know that you said that the dispatcher told you not to go in the house that officers were on their way
10:18did you go into the house
10:20something in my stomach say not
10:23okay so last time you were in the house was when you left for work last night
10:27yes ma'am
10:28who would harm angela if that's the case
10:33chris told us that richie wilder was angela wilder's ex-husband
10:40they also shared a biological child together as well as angela's firstborn child was
10:48adopted by richie while they were married
10:51and they shared custody of the children
10:53what's her relationship like with richie
10:58if you can name it they probably
11:03didn't worry with
11:04he doesn't like her she doesn't like him
11:08he was in the military and he got kicked out because he was
11:13and then we got divorced over
11:15is he still living in my home
11:18no we don't
11:18we always have to take kids up to um marketplace foods sunday at five
11:24and not going in there so angela didn't have to
11:27the sunday the custody exchange then
11:30is that every week
11:31every week
11:32ritchie wilder and angela wilder had a very volatile relationship there was abuse that was documented he had a motive for this crime with the custody of the children
12:00and at that point they really put richie on our radar as a person we we need to talk to him
12:07that morning i was driving to school and drove by her house and her house is surrounded in yellow tape
12:28i called got no answer texted right away and said are you okay got no answer
12:36the next day i learned that she was gone
12:42that angela was gone
12:44it was an extreme shock
12:48she was one of the most compassionate caring people you'll ever meet
12:52it was heartbreaking
12:54when's last time you saw richie
13:14last sunday
13:20the custody exchange then
13:22yeah
13:23okay
13:23we get there and cindy's sitting over there
13:26freaking honda
13:27who's cindy
13:28cindy's richie's wife
13:30cindy sits there and scowls at us the entire time
13:34i walk the kids in and tell them i love them and everything
13:36each time we get the kids back
13:40it's always something about richie said this or did that
13:45it's always putting us down and just calling us trash
13:49okay
13:50okay
13:52i'm gonna step out for just a second
13:54do you need anything
13:55no
13:55are you done with your water
13:56is it smart
13:57no
13:57okay
13:58i'll give you some more water
13:59once we were done talking to him
14:03he also agreed to take the polygraph and he passed that
14:07we contacted his employer
14:12we were able to get the video of all the cameras in this in the business
14:17and we were able to confirm that chris never left his job that night
14:23mr jackson's alibi was solid
14:27at that point i was very confident that christopher jackson was innocent
14:31so we definitely wanted to get richie wilder into the police department so we could see what his story is
14:37see where he was at and see what he had to say about all of this
14:41just right here's okay
14:58do one second
15:00oh yes sir
15:01yep
15:07hello
15:08hi are you richie
15:09yes ma'am
15:10hi richie my name is detective christopher mcice
15:12this is sergeant detective dave goodman
15:14um
15:15i'm not sure what patrol told you or the officers told you when they came up to the house
15:19to give time
15:20i needed to come down and answer your question
15:22did they tell you what about
15:23well i had some got some messages that they text and then i saw on facebook that something happened
15:29i don't know
15:30i know my uh wife when she drove my school today
15:33she saw some car cars out there
15:35when we said out there you're talking about
15:37um excellent health angel's health
15:40angel's health
15:41okay
15:42what happened to your face did you get a scratch in your face yeah this is from my kidney
15:47the first thing everybody noticed was he had a small scratch under one of his eyes which appeared to be pretty fresh which kind of hyped up everybody's senses right away
15:56somebody who was stabbed in a violent encounter more than likely struggled wouldn't be unrealistic to think that you know they might have scratched their assailant
16:04and how did that happen
16:05what happened we play wrestle slash play fight and sometimes he clawed me up he had long figured out sometimes when did that happen
16:13that happened yesterday
16:14and tell me about the scenario of what you guys were doing when that happened oh just in the living room i usually get on my knees and we kind of play around the thing i don't want to hear is usually
16:25tell me exactly what happened oh i could see his brain working when i asked him about the scratch
16:32you can tell that he's uncomfortable explaining this and he keeps falling back on a memory i believe of him wrestling with his son and that was a huge red flag for us
16:44okay um did you work last night from sunday and you were at trinity that whole time yes sir we can't leave the hospital without permission
16:55where'd you go after you left work straight home can anybody tell us what time you got home
17:01cindy can okay did you ever leave to go anywhere in the middle of the night
17:06have you ever been inside her house no sir
17:10whoever made statements to angela about taking the kids away from her
17:14what did that cost between the two of you then
17:16you consider yourself a smart man richie
17:21hang on what it is
17:23you can certainly put two and two together right
17:26yes
17:26so what is the two and two that you've put together in this situation
17:29well somebody passed away i know that i just don't know
17:33but we're doing an investigation here and and obviously this is serious we have you down
17:39yes and and i'll tell you angela's dead
17:43so what do you know about that
18:01oh about what about angela being dead
18:04i think it's what you said
18:06i'll tell you what what there's a lot of fingers pointing right at you
18:10well yeah
18:11because i'm her ex-husband right
18:13well you're her ex-husband and you guys have a volatile relationship
18:18did you hurt her no
18:24did you kill her no
18:26no no
18:27i don't know anything about it
18:30your dna is not going to show up anywhere on her
18:35going to show up under her fingernails
18:37your dna is not going to show up in her house
18:42no
18:42i've never been to her house
18:44and if i did i would tell you
18:47if anybody ever accused me of something i didn't do
18:51i'd be angry
18:52but he was very calm and non-caring
18:57just sits there quiet
18:59it just didn't make much sense
19:01you know i try and think of people that
19:04that would benefit from this
19:09and again it brings me back to you
19:13but it also brings me to cindy
19:14i mean it could be something maybe that cindy's just
19:17tired of dealing with
19:19all this pain in the ass custody
19:21do you think she killed angela
19:25not cindy
19:30how confident are you on that
19:32100%
19:33would you take a polygraph exam
19:36i mean yeah if i need to
19:38i got in a hive
19:40i want to get to the bottom of it
19:42because i want to clear my name
19:43okay
19:44let's start with the polygraph
19:48you'll be here at 8 o'clock tonight
19:51yeah
19:51okay
19:52um i'm going to grab a camera
19:55and just take some pictures of your
19:57your scratch on your face
19:59and we'd like to look through your phone
20:02and your vehicle
20:03and your wife's vehicle
20:06put your hands straight up
20:13can you lift your shirt up for me
20:17are you
20:18t-shirt
20:19ritchie was high on our person of interest list at that point
20:35it was obvious that we had rattled his cage and that he was uncomfortable
20:41i wanted him to understand that we're not going to go away
20:46i wanted him to go home with that thought in his mind that he's in trouble
20:50she confirmed that you know ritchie came right home from work she claimed that she woke up in the middle of the night he was still in bed beside her he was there all night
21:05we suspected that she might have been covering for ritchie but she didn't seem all that concerned angelo was dead and that she'd been murdered it was just strange
21:42one of the crime scene officers located a small dot on the passenger door
21:49it was dark brown in color and smaller than a pencil eraser
21:54it came back as human blood
21:55it came back as human blood
21:56so we just have the blood in for dna testing
21:59at that point it becomes a waiting game
22:03it just kind of all added up to just more and more suspicious
22:23shouldn't take that much effort to say yeah i'll do this if you're not involved
22:27we're pretty well in agreement that this is our prime suspect
22:31every little piece we had was pointing right towards ritchie wilder
22:57ritchie worked in a local hospital and they found out rather quickly that ritchie was a very popular with some of the female co-workers
23:08ritchie was having affairs with different women throughout the hospital
23:13he really wasn't the greatest guy when it came to how he would treat women
23:17but that doesn't help us build our case against him as a murderer
23:22we just have to keep following up on everything we can think of
23:26about a month after the murder
23:42we did receive a call from the north dakota state crime lab
23:46they told us that the swab taken from the honda pilot
23:51was angela wilder's luck
23:54finding angela wilder's blood in cynthia wilder's honda pilot was a huge break for us
24:17it was a very emotional moment
24:19angela's dna should not have been in that vehicle
24:23ultimately we got the dna back from the fingernail scrapings of angela that showed ritchie's dna underneath there
24:30that was the breaking moment in this case
24:34took him to the police department and ritchie lawyered up and he wasn't going to talk to us anymore
24:56at this point we highly suspected that she had information about the homicide
25:16she lied during the first interview when she said that he didn't leave anywhere during the night
25:21we knew that she was going to stick to her story so we had to say something shocking that would change the course of that
25:29we have ritchie down here
25:32we have ritchie down there do you know why we have ritchie down here
25:35we've arrested ritchie for the murder of angela wilder
25:40you tell me
25:43we want you to be honest with us this time
25:50i have nothing to say
25:51cindy we have a lot that we want to share with you too
25:55stuff that i would think that that you would want to know
25:58i don't mean any disrespect by saying this cindy
26:02i'm a little bit confused about your relationship with ritchie
26:07i know he's your husband but i'll tell you what
26:10you don't fit the criteria of the other women that he's sleeping with
26:14not at all
26:16do not accuse him of that
26:18we don't have to accuse him we have proof
26:20this is jennifer and jennifer told us
26:25about the sexual relationship she's tied with ritchie
26:28since the beginning of the year
26:30that's awesome
26:32we're not trying to offend you or piss you off with that information
26:38because i know it's not true
26:39we can play the recordings
26:41know who this is
26:44no
26:45that's another one
26:47he's got relationships with all three of these women
26:51well i want to see proof of that
26:52do you have it on video
26:54we have joanne on video saying it
26:55i don't want to see a video of them saying
26:58i want to see a video of them having sex with my husband
27:02that's what i want
27:03i don't believe you until i see that
27:05let me tell you something
27:07she's steven in his phone
27:09well he is busy
27:10he's very busy
27:12i don't give two
27:13i feel it for you
27:16and it's absolute bull
27:18that he had this whole other life
27:21what i got feeling right now
27:23cindy is that this isn't fair to you
27:26ritchie did something
27:29horrible
27:30and you know
27:33but it's time to be honest with us
27:36and tell us the truth
27:39why did he do it
27:42because he hates her
27:44because of money
27:48because of the children
27:51why
27:53she was definitely playing the loyal wife
28:01but i thought there was more to it
28:03and i felt like she had information on how and when
28:06and what happened to clothing that might have had blood on it
28:10and i wanted her to break
28:12did you know that angela was pregnant
28:14she was
28:17she was pregnant when ritchie killed her
28:20don't say that
28:21it's true
28:22that's the evidence that we've gathered
28:24what evidence
28:25it's scientific evidence
28:26we have dna evidence that we took from the honda
28:28that we took
28:29of course there would be
28:30ritchie's dna in my honda
28:33of course dna shouldn't be in the honda
28:34whose blood should not be in the honda
28:41nobody's blood has ever been in the honda
28:44whose blood do you think is in the honda
28:46i don't know
28:47well i'll tell you angela's blood
28:48there's blood on the passenger door of that vehicle
28:51that belongs to angela
28:53how did that get there
28:54well i don't know why
28:58blood would be on our door
29:00if she supposedly died in her house
29:02because who killed her was in your car
29:05that's all
29:11we want you to tell us what you know
29:19that's why we're sharing these things
29:24because we know you know more
29:26were you with him when he did this
29:30did he stay at the house at all that night
29:33yes he went after work
29:36okay what time did he leave the house
29:38he didn't leave the house
29:39yes he did
29:40he didn't leave the house that night
29:42no he didn't
29:42i was up several times with the kids
29:44and he was out cold
29:45that's not true
29:48that's not true
29:48my goal here
29:52is just for you to be honest with us
29:55and tell us what you know
29:56are you looking
30:00are you going to tell us
30:01i don't have anything to tell
30:04if you don't want to talk now
30:07i'm begging you to please reconsider
30:11and
30:13call us
30:15we highly suspected that cynthia was involved
30:20in more ways than one
30:21but we didn't have evidence against her at that point
30:25i never got a good feeling about cynthia
30:29but there's nothing we can charge her with at that time
30:32and she was free to leave
30:34ritchie wanted to give this information because he was looking for some sort of deal
30:47so that's when we set up the interview to take place in the sheriff's office in their conference room
31:05all right
31:09all right the video recorders
31:10record
31:11start whenever you're open
31:15start
31:19well we understand that
31:22that you have some information that you want to share with us
31:26it's my understanding that you want to share your involvement
31:31in this crime
31:32so
31:33um
31:35so
31:36chris said he kind of came up with an idea
31:39to
31:40like
31:41or i could get full custody of my kids and he could get full custody of his
31:45i guess they were you know having some issues
31:47and i was like okay what do you
31:49like what do you want
31:50and he said he thought that angelo was cheating on him
31:52and he said when he goes to work that he thought somebody was coming over
31:56he's like
31:58you know we'll catch him in bed
31:59and then you can testify for me in court against her
32:01that she's cheating on me
32:02and then we both get full custody
32:04so
32:05i was like yeah sure you know
32:07you're gonna help me i'm gonna help you
32:09that sounds good to me
32:10but he called me that night
32:12he said why don't you come down and get me
32:14and then you know we'll head up and catch him in the act
32:17so i got in the car
32:19um
32:20drove to walmart
32:21picked him up
32:22drove back to his house
32:24we uh
32:25and got out of the car
32:26went he unlocked the door
32:27where we went in
32:28tell me exactly what you saw when you went in
32:30oh okay
32:31uh...
32:32we went up some stairs
32:33and then we went through a room
32:35that was like their bedroom
32:36and uh...
32:37it looked like there was two people in the bed
32:39you know
32:40and uh...
32:41so as he pulled back to cover the first thing i noticed there wasn't a person
32:45that was a body pillow
32:47but he grabbed her and he just started like
32:49you know like making a motion and
32:53and uh... i'm sorry
32:55he just got stabbing her
32:57and i ran over there
32:59she like leaned up
33:00and like scratched the mess out of my face
33:03she was just like i love you
33:05i was so
33:06and then he just started stabbing her more
33:08and i was like what the f*** are you doing
33:12it was just the most far-fetched
33:14fantasy i think i mean there's no other way to put it
33:17at this point he'd had several months of
33:19sitting in the jail to try to concoct a story
33:22and when i heard it i'm like this is the best he could do
33:24is
33:25chris did it
33:26what did he say
33:27he just said he's like i'm serious
33:28he's like if you tell me about it
33:30he's like i'm gonna kill your wife and i'm gonna kill your little one
33:32he never said their name
33:33he just kept saying your wife and your little one
33:36i know from your admission that you were there
33:41but i
33:43it doesn't fit
33:45because i know
33:46that chris
33:48did not leave walmart
33:50during the hours that you say that he did
33:53he did though
33:54i know he didn't because i watched him
33:56on video i watched him at work
34:00i didn't kill anybody
34:02i think you killed angela
34:04yeah i told you chris did
34:09you can stop anytime you want
34:13stop
34:17i appreciate you talking to us
34:21we were preparing with the idea that richie wilder was going to
34:24lie to us
34:25our plan was to let him tell his story and just let those lies bury him
34:30there was so much that he locked himself into
34:33describing the inside of the house
34:35describing how angela's body was
34:38we won this little battle in this entire war of a case
34:43this afternoon the jury convicted richie wilder of murdering his ex-wife angela in her northwest minot home last november
35:06richie's current wife cynthia remained resolute in her husband's innocence
35:11i stand
35:11by him
35:14i can't ask for a better sentence than life without pearl so we were happy with that
35:25it's almost like we know she did something but we just can't prove it
35:36cynthia went about her life at that point
35:40so that's the frustrating part because you know that there's more
35:44the minot police department received a call in march of 2017
35:58the minot police department received a call in march of 2017 from a matt walters
36:14he said that he has possible information about the murder of angela wilder
36:20we called him just to see if this was really true
36:24good afternoon is this matt
36:26it is
36:27matt detective matthias calling from the minot police department
36:30some information was passed along to me i wanted to follow up with you
36:34so it's kind of torn for a while on whether i can call you guys
36:39do you know cindy
36:40cindy in relation to what
36:44um so her husband is the uh the guy that uh he's the one that stabbed uh that
36:52woman a couple years back and he's in jail right now for it
36:54they just tried him
36:56are you talking about richie wilder
36:57yes richie wilder
36:59over the last three to four months she just keeps saying stuff that
37:03was very unnerving
37:07like hinting that she had something to do with it
37:14she heavily uh insinuated through facebook messages that she
37:28was involved in the murder um that her husband committed
37:33would you be able to send me all those messages
37:36yeah i can uh screenshot them and send them to you
37:39immediately after that she says it wasn't supposed to be a knife
37:52and you're the only person i have said anything to
37:54that one really raised the hair on the back of my neck
37:59mr walters had a good conscience and said that this just wasn't sitting well
38:05with him and he wanted to sign up as a confidential informant
38:09we're very excited we knew that this was our chance to
38:12hold her responsible for the role that she played
38:24we basically wanted to get it in her words instead of
38:36in typed messages that she could have argued somebody else was typing
38:41he went to cindy's house
38:45they sat outside in a parked car for a good couple of hours
38:49and they talked and a lot of it was just small talk
38:53we knew that mr walters was trying to get her just comfortable talking to him again
38:57i had a really good time
39:00i mean it's good we're talking connecting
39:03it's nice to get out of the house and laugh and then haven't laughed
39:07yeah
39:08in a long time
39:09i've just become this negative
39:12cynical
39:13yeah that hateful like i don't know i'm just mad all the time and i don't know why
39:20about what
39:21i don't know that's the problem
39:23are you mad at your husband
39:24no like i'm i'm proud of him i'm just pissed that he got caught and then he got
39:30sloppy and impatient and and i thought we were like in the clear
39:36and it all kind of started as like a joke like i asked him like i've ever killed anybody just
39:43like
39:44and she needs to die like
39:45because we like had this thing like planned for like two years and we're just waiting on
39:51seriously
39:52yeah seriously
39:54like i helped him like i would leave like when he worked nights i would leave the house at like
40:02midnight and like sit outside her house in my vehicle seeing who came into the house
40:07yeah we had this planned out
40:11and he it up
40:13i mean how but like
40:15because he didn't clean the car good enough one spot of blood in my car
40:20he just has like so much anger towards her that's why
40:23he couldn't just do one jab to the jugular and get out
40:28no he like went psycho on her
40:30i don't know a knife is a stupid way to kill somebody
40:34yeah
40:35so once you realized it was real then what like
40:40then i just had to stick with he was home with me all night
40:45to be honest i thought you were full of you told me before that
40:49he was home with you all night
40:50yeah i could go to jail for a very long time because i helped him
40:54i think cynthia wilder was proud of her involvement in this
40:59i never felt that cindy had any remorse at all for what happened to angela
41:04so when we heard her make those damning statements we reach back and high five because we knew that
41:13that we had her at that point
41:14there's been another arrest in connection with the 2015 minot murder the wife of convicted
41:25murderer richie wilder was arrested today and charged with conspiracy in the murder of wilder's ex-wife
41:32it was ultimate justice it's kind of karma coming back and biting her
41:37she was 100% involved in this murder and she unfortunately spilled it all to the wrong person
41:44the minot woman who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder
42:03will spend the rest of her life in jail
42:06cynthia wilder was sentenced today in a hearing where the judge went well beyond the recommendations
42:11of both the defense and prosecution you were the one person who could have intervened you were the
42:17one person who could have spared angela wilder's life you chose not to do so the life in prison
42:25sentence with no parole is the exact same sentence that her husband richie wilder is now serving
42:30for killing angela wilder it was an awesome feeling
