00:00have kind of concerns.
00:01But then next up in the news,
00:02if you keep blocking my hostile takeover efforts,
00:05I'm gonna hostile takeover even harder.
00:07That is essentially what Trump is saying
00:09in response to judges and officials
00:10holding up his efforts to deploy troops into US cities.
00:13Because you know, we talked a bit yesterday
00:14about the situation in Portland
00:16with small protests in the city being characterized
00:18as just much worse in reality
00:20to justify deploying troops there.
00:21You've got Trump describing Portland as war ravaged
00:24and saying that ICE facilities were under attack
00:26by Antifa and other domestic terrorists.
00:28And then you seem to have federal agents
00:30doing everything they could
00:31to make reality match that characterization.
00:33Which is then when a judge stepped in,
00:35temporarily blocking the administration
00:36from sending in the National Guard.
00:37With the judge pointing to, quote,
00:39substantial evidence that the protests
00:40at the Portland ICE facility
00:41were not significantly violent or disruptive
00:44in the days or even weeks
00:45leading up to the president's directive.
00:47Then we saw Illinois and Chicago
00:48filing similar lawsuits yesterday,
00:50gunning for a ruling just like the one in Portland
00:51after the announcement
00:52that the troops would be heading to Chicago next.
00:54But Trump, though more likely Stephen Miller,
00:56but Trump isn't about to let something trivial
00:58like a judge's ruling stop him.
01:00Which is why he's floating using the 1807 Insurrection Act
01:03if judges keep blocking his efforts like this.
01:04And if you don't know,
01:05the Insurrection Act is a federal law
01:07that allows the president
01:07to nationally deploy the U.S. military
01:09or federalize state National Guard troops
01:11to stomp out what the president considers
01:13an insurrection against the U.S.
01:15We're talking about a law
01:15that hasn't been used in decades,
01:16with the last time being back in 1992
01:18when George H.W. Bush was president.
01:20And in that case,
01:21it was actually requested
01:22by then-California Governor Pete Wilson,
01:24who asked for help addressing riots in Los Angeles.
01:26But also, we have seen it used
01:27against the wishes of local governors,
01:29both Dwight Eisenhower and JFK.
01:31They did this in order to facilitate school integration
01:33after the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court ruling.
01:35But now we're looking at a wildly different situation,
01:38and Trump's been very open
01:39about his fascination with the Insurrection Act.
01:41I mean, part of the reason people even became aware
01:42that this was a law back from the 1800s
01:44was on the campaign trail,
01:46he was promising to use it to suppress unrest.
01:48And then, earlier this year,
01:49he came close to actually using it in L.A.
01:51during the protests against ICE.
01:52And then all of that bringing us to yesterday
01:54when he once again told reporters,
01:55We have an Insurrection Act for a reason.
01:58If I had to enact it, I'd do that.
02:00If people were being killed
02:01and courts were holding us up
02:04or governors or mayors were holding us up,
02:07sure, I'd do that.
02:08And we've seen Trump's underlings
02:09laying the groundwork to justify the Insurrection Act
02:11should he decide to use it.
02:12With White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller,
02:14for example, saying that
02:15the administration is facing a legal insurrection
02:18and that these rulings against them
02:19amount to, quote,
02:20an insurrection against the laws and constitution
02:22of the United States.
02:23And adding, we need to have district courts
02:25in this country that see themselves
02:26as being under the laws and constitution
02:28and not being able to take for themselves
02:30powers that are reserved solely for the president.
02:32And also with this, I'll say,
02:33it's not just the courts pushing back.
02:35We've also got local officials and representatives
02:36taking serious issue with these deployments.
02:38And one of the things we saw there
02:39was Senator Dick Durbin from Illinois
02:41grilling Pam Bondi today
02:42about the deployments in his state
02:43during a Senate hearing.
02:44Why do you want to keep this secret to American people?
02:46Don't know the rationale behind the deployment
02:49of National Guard troops in my state.
02:51Yeah, Chairman, as you shut down the government,
02:53you voted to shut down the government,
02:55and you're sitting here,
02:56our law enforcement officers aren't being paid.
02:58They're out there working to protect you.
03:00I wish you loved Chicago
03:02as much as you hate President Trump.
03:03And currently, the National Guard
03:05are on the way to Chicago.
03:07If you're not going to protect your citizens,
03:09President Trump will.
03:12I've been on this committee for more than 20 years.
03:13That's the kind of testimony you expect
03:15from this administration.
03:17A simple question as to whether or not
03:19that a legal rationale for deploying National Guard troops
03:21becomes grounds for a personal attack.
03:23And then in addition to that,
03:24you had Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson
03:26taking a stand against the deployments
03:27by signing an executive order
03:29banning federal immigration officials
03:30from using city property in their operations.
03:32Right, and specifically,
03:33the order prevents ICE agents
03:34from using city-owned, vacant,
03:36or designated parking lots
03:37for anything related to their operations,
03:39including staging and processing.
03:40With Johnson saying,
03:41we will not tolerate ICE agents
03:43violating our residents' constitutional rights,
03:45nor will we allow the federal government
03:47to disregard our local authority.
03:49And that, as you'd expect,
03:50was not taken well by Team Trump.
03:52Or with Tricia McLaughlin, for example,
03:54Assistant Secretary
03:54at the Department of Homeland Security,
03:56slamming Johnson in a statement,
03:57saying,
03:58his reckless policies not only endanger our law enforcement,
04:01but public safety.
04:02And claiming,
04:02while he continues to release pedophiles,
04:04rapists,
04:04gang members,
04:05and murderers onto Chicago's streets,
04:07our brave law enforcement
04:08will continue to risk their lives without pay
04:10to arrest these heinous criminals
04:12and make Chicago safe again.
04:13Right, and that is,
04:14the White House calling Johnson's order,
04:15quote,
04:15a disgusting betrayal
04:16of every law-abiding citizen,
04:18and adding,
04:19shielding the most depraved,
04:20violent, criminal,
04:21illegal aliens from justice
04:22is not only an insult
04:23to every Chicagoan,
04:24it's also a dangerous intensification
04:26of Democrats' lunatic sanctuary agenda
04:28where criminal illegals
04:29come before American citizens.
04:31Which has long been
04:32Team Trump's narrative
04:33in their crusade
04:33against sanctuary cities,
04:34that they harbor dangerous criminals
04:36and must be stopped
04:37at all costs, et cetera.
04:38And I mean,
04:38since taking office,
04:39he's sued 14 jurisdictions,
04:41threatened criminal charges
04:42against local officials
04:43who don't comply
04:43with federal demands
04:44and conducted large-scale
04:45immigration operations
04:46on top of deploying
04:47the National Guard troops.
04:48But those attacks
04:49have led to some serious pushback,
04:50including from
04:51the San Francisco city attorney
04:52who said in an interview,
04:53the Trump administration
04:54is trying to use
04:55its enforcement authority
04:56in ways they know
04:56are not legal or constitutional
04:58to get their way,
04:59and we've been forced
05:00to defend our rights.
05:01And that defense,
05:02along with pushback
05:02against Trump and Chicago
05:03and Portland,
05:04has served as evidence for some
05:05that Democrats are finally
05:06willing to fight back.
05:07But ultimately,
05:08that's where we are right now.
05:09We're gonna have to wait
05:10to see how things
05:11continue to play out.
05:11And I mean that both
05:12regarding Chicago and Portland,
05:13as well as, you know,
05:14the impact
