08 October - National Afternoon Forecast presented by Alex Burkill
Transcript
00:00We have a bit of a three-way split as we go through the rest of today.
00:04There is some fine weather around, especially across central parts of the country,
00:08but that's very much sandwiched in between cloudier, wetter weather towards the north
00:12and also some cloudy, drizzly, damp weather towards the far south
00:16because of a front that's gradually edging away here.
00:19So across southern parts, yes, a bit grey, a bit damp at the moment,
00:23but it is going to turn a bit drier as we go through the afternoon.
00:26Meanwhile, across parts of Scotland, particularly the north and west,
00:29it's actually turning wetter and windier as we go through the day,
00:32those winds picking up, perhaps touching gales later on around exposed coasts.
00:36In between, though, and quite cloudy for Northern Ireland,
00:39but across the rest of England and Wales, actually some decent fine
00:42and at times sunny weather and in that sunshine with temperatures peaking in the mid to high teens,
00:47they just about scrape to the low 20s, probably not, probably staying in the high teens.
00:51It's going to feel pretty warm with generally light winds for most
00:55away from the blustery northwest of the UK.
00:57Obviously, where you get the cloud, where you get the stronger winds and the rain,
01:01it is going to feel markedly fresher.
01:03As we go through this evening, the wind's strengthening perhaps a little bit more
01:05across parts of northwest Scotland,
01:07and the rain edging a bit further south across more central and southern parts
01:11as we go through the night.
01:12Some damp weather also feeding into parts of Northern Ireland,
01:15and the cloud may come in across parts of northwest England,
01:19perhaps parts of Wales as well,
01:20and that could bring a few spots of rain too.
01:22But elsewhere, most places actually largely dry,
01:26staying dry across southern and eastern parts of England and Wales,
01:29and also turning dry across northern parts of Scotland.
01:32And where we get the dry, clear weather,
01:34particularly where the winds are light towards the south,
01:37well, temperatures are going to take a bit of a drop,
01:39so even towns and cities falling into single digits.
01:41Some rural spots a few degrees lower than this,
01:44and with that then,
01:46a reasonable chance that we will see some fog patches developing
01:48as we head towards dawn, particularly towards the southwest.
01:53These, though, should clear relatively quickly
01:55as we go through tomorrow morning,
01:57and then actually across the southern half of the UK,
02:00it's actually looking like a largely fine day,
02:02some decent sunshine on offer for most of us.
02:05Cloudier, though, across parts of northern England,
02:07particularly northwest England,
02:08some parts of southwest Scotland,
02:10and also across much of Northern Ireland,
02:12and there'll be a few spots of rain continuing here.
02:14Largely dry, though, across Northern Ireland.
02:16Still some blustery winds across northern parts,
02:19but these will be easing down just a little bit
02:21through the daytime itself.
02:23Temperatures for many on Thursday
02:24will be a little bit higher than today,
02:27particularly towards the south,
02:28with less cloud around, brighter skies.
02:31It's going to feel a bit warmer as well,
02:32especially because the winds are generally staying light
02:35for most of us as well.
02:37As we go later on on Thursday,
02:38there is going to be a bit of damp weather
02:40pushing into western, northwestern parts of Scotland.
02:42It doesn't look especially heavy,
02:44but, again, we are going to see some rain arriving here.
02:46Meanwhile, other places staying largely dry,
02:49and, again, where we get clear skies overnight
02:51into Thursday, Thursday into Friday,
02:54we could see some fog patches developing.
02:56Otherwise, as we go into the weekend,
02:57high pressure is going to be firmly in control.
02:59So, whilst it won't be totally dry,
03:01it is going to be often fine, often calm, often settled,
03:05albeit towards the far north of the UK,
03:07it's going to stay a bit breezy.
03:09With that settled weather,
03:11it's a case of chasing the cloud,
03:13and so where we get some sunny breaks developing,
03:16it's going to feel relatively warm during the weekend,
03:18but overnight, it does mean that it could turn a little chilly
03:21and we could see some fog patches developing.
03:24Always worth bearing in mind, fog's a difficult one,
03:26and so we may need some warnings to cover for the fact
03:29that there could be some impacts,
03:31particularly on the roads,
03:32but they might be issued at quite short notice,
03:34so we're staying up to date with the forecast.
03:36Bye-bye.
