Israel says it prepares for first phase of Trump plan after striking Gaza overnight

00:01After two years of death and devastation, there is a slither of hope the war could end.

00:07But much is uncertain.

00:10Following an explicit order from the U.S. president to stop the bombing,

00:14the Israeli Prime Minister's office announced Saturday that it is preparing to end its aggressive activities.

00:20In light of Hamas' response, Israel is preparing to immediately implement the first phase of Trump's plan

00:26for the immediate release of all hostages.

00:28Hamas on Friday partially agreed to the plan put forward by Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu last week.

00:36Pivotally, they have said they will hand over the remaining 48 hostages,

00:40some 20 of whom are believed to be alive.

00:43They are to be exchanged with 250 life-sentenced Palestinian prisoners,

00:48plus 1,700 people from Gaza who have been detained by Israel since October 7th.

00:54However, the group says details need to be worked out.

00:58First of all, the procedures of the exchange of prisoners in terms of the numbers,

01:04the preparation of the appropriate environment for the release of the bodies,

01:08the stopping of the aggression in order for us to be able to withdraw the Israelis from the areas,

01:13the return of the people of Palestine, and to allow aid to enter.

01:19Hamas has said it will surrender its governing power in the Gaza Strip,

01:22but did not confirm what role it hopes to play.

01:26Israel and its allies, however, are adamant that they will not be part of any future administration.

01:31The militant group has also not agreed to disarm,

01:35but when pushed by Al Jazeera,

01:37a spokesperson said they would hand over their weapons to whoever rules the territory.

01:41The concessions will likely prove highly contentious at Israel's next Cabinet meeting,

01:47slated for Sunday.
