00:00The EU has imposed a series of sanctions against Russia, but Moscow has managed to adapt and

00:09Much of this is shipped using what's called a shadow fleet, which operates outside the
00:13western maritime industry.
00:16Sanctions this Thursday on Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine are being imposed
00:20on 41 more.
00:22This follows similar EU sanctions on Monday.
00:25Russia's shadow fleet remains its cash lifeline and we are cutting it.
00:30To get off Russia's cash flow faster, we will now also sanction shadow fleet vessels on a
00:37rolling basis with decisions every month.
00:40A summit on Tuesday in Helsinki, attended by several EU states on the bloc's eastern border,
00:47addressed the issue of Russian shadow fleet ships sailing into the Baltic Sea each day.

01:01A European Parliamentary Research Service briefing a year ago said that Russian shadow fleet vessels
01:08operate across the globe.
01:09However, in the first half of last year, almost 42% of total Russian seaborne oil was exported
01:15from Baltic and Black Sea ports by shadow tankers.
01:20The EU's moves come as the UK this Thursday imposed sanctions on more Russian oil companies
01:25and traders making millions off illicit Russian oil.
01:28The goal is to pressure the Kremlin.
