00:01Hello, it's Martin Dempster, the Scotsman Golf Correspondent here, coming to you from Carnoustie Golf Links

00:07at the end of the opening round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

00:12Fairly benign conditions here on the East Coast today before Storm Amy sweeps in on Friday

00:18and that's set to cause some problems on Saturday as well with some high winds.

00:24One of the best rounds of the day at the three courses came here.

00:29Former world number one, Dustin Johnson, who's now a live golf player.

00:34He opened with an eight under par, 64, reminding us that he's a top player.

00:41Won all five of his matches for the Americans in the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits

00:48where the home team ran out 19-9 winners.

00:51He's not played in the last two of the Ryder Cups due to the live golf situation.

00:58He's not performed well enough in the majors to secure a spot on the American team.

01:04But on the evidence of his play today and how he's played recently in live golf events,

01:10he's certainly going to be knocking on the door to be back on the American team at Adair Manor in two years' time.

01:17Bob McIntyre, he opened here with a six under par, 66, described that as a good day's work.

01:25Played some smart golf, he said, and that was certainly a good effort given the exertions from him in last week's Ryder Cup.

01:34Playing in the match behind, two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray on his debut was pleased with his performance.

01:43He's certainly got a pretty strong golf game.

01:46He'd shot a 70 in a practice round at Kings Barns on Wednesday.

01:53He was really chuffed about one shot today that was through trees,

01:58described that as probably the best shot of his career.

02:01And he's certainly heading to Kings Barns for tomorrow's second round with a spring in his step.
