Transcript
00:00Hello, it's Martin Dempsey, the Scotsman Golf Correspondent here, coming to you from the
00:08Belfry, one of European golf's iconic venues at the end of the Betfred British Masters,
00:16hosted by Sir Nick Faldo. Once again, a fantastic tournament here at the Sutton Cokefield venue,
00:26and at the end of four intriguing days, the winner was Swede Alex Norton, who landed the title
00:35for a second time, having also come out on top at the Grove in 2016. New Zealander Kazuma
00:45Kabore, he finished birdie, birdie, eagle, birdie, to set the clubhouse target, 15 under par.
00:52Norton picked up three birdies, the 15th, 16th and 17th, to stand on the 18th tee with a
01:01two-shot lead, didn't hit a great tee shot, then left himself with an awkward up and down
01:08and a six, seven-footer for a bogey. However, he's a cool customer, former Scottish Open champion
01:17of course, and Norton rolled in the bogey putt to finish on 16 under, winning by a shot from
01:26the aforementioned Kabore and also Dane Nikolai Hojard. Earlier, Hojard's twin brother, Rasmus,
01:36he achieved his goal of finishing in a tie for 29th or better, to jump above Shane Lowry
01:46in the final points table for Europe's team for next month's Ryder Cup in New York. Hojard
01:56joined Rory McIlroy, Bob McIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose and Terrell Hatton in tying up
02:04a guaranteed spot, leaving Luke Donald with six captains pick to make and he'll announce
02:12them next Monday. Norton played on a winning team in France in 2018 and certainly showed
02:22he's still a top player with his victory here. However, having missed a chunk of the season
02:29due to a tendon injury, he doesn't think he's in the frame for that match and even though
02:38Matt Fitzpatrick would be disappointed that he didn't turn an overnight lead into a victory
02:44here, it definitely now looks as though Fitzpatrick, Sepp Stracker, Ludwig Eberg, Victor Hovland and
02:57John Ram would be the players likely to get the nod from Donald for that intriguing Ryder Cup
03:10in New York next month. To keep up to date with everything in the golf world, walk onto scotchman.com
