00:00So it's love your school time. We're here at the wonderful Western Lullingfields School.
00:05I've said that right, haven't I, Miss? Yes, you have. Yes, you have.
00:07So you're the boss here. Yes. What's your name, Madam?
00:09My name is Kate Scott. I'm a head teacher here at Western Lullingfields Primary School.
00:14So how long have you been here then, Miss?
00:16So I've been here about four years now and I was here as a teacher here
00:21and I've been a head teacher here for a year and, no, coming up two years.
00:28So we've done a few pictures with the Shropshire Star here with you.
00:32One memorable one for me was a student arriving in his dad's tank, which was crazy.
00:38A few years ago, that's right, yes.
00:40And then what was the recent inspection, Siam's inspection?
00:43So, yeah, recently we had our church inspection in June
00:46where the Church of England inspector comes in to have a look at our school ethos,
00:53our school vision, and to see how we are living out our Christian values.
00:58And we're exceptionally proud of how well the children spoke about all the things that they've been learning
01:04and how supportive our parents are in our whole school community.
01:10So tell us a little bit about your school then and some of the things we're going to see.
01:14I understand we're going to see some pumpkins that are growing and some interesting artwork.
01:17Yes, we've been donated a couple of huge pumpkins from one of our parents.
01:23The children have been amazed by them.
01:26They've been inspiring some amazing work.
01:29But here at Western Lanningfields, we are a very small rural primary school.
01:34We benefit from being out here in this beautiful Shropshire countryside,
01:39North Shropshire countryside.
01:40We've got a beautiful school field, a forest school area.
01:44It's incredibly quiet here.
01:46So the children thrive in our beautiful surroundings.
01:50We are a mainstream school, but we offer something different here.
01:55Some of our pupils are here on a flexi-school arrangement,
02:00which means we are a halfway house between homeschooling and full-time schooling.
02:06So some of our children spend some time at home with their parents doing homeschool activities
02:11and sometimes they're here with us in school.
02:13Wow, that's kind of a new way of working, really.
02:16In Western Lanningfields, we've been doing it here for a very long time.
02:20So it's a very well-established policy here.
02:23And if they opt for that way of working,
02:26is it kind of like a minimum amount of days they need to be in school for?
02:30We recommend that it's three days in school and two days at home.
02:34And we're very flexible on our approach.
02:37And lots of our families begin here on a flexi-school arrangement
02:41and then they become full-time.
02:44But some of our children maintain a flexi-school arrangement
02:46all the way through being with us here right through until year six.
02:51So it depends on the family and it depends on the personal circumstances.
02:54Yeah.
02:55And what's this interesting art project where they've been using recycled materials?
02:59Yes, one of our art projects in Key Stage 2 has been looking at recycled art.
03:06So the children have been collecting all sorts of materials to create some artwork.
03:11And we've got a visiting artist coming in in a couple of weeks
03:15who makes beautiful sculptures out of old pianos.
03:19Oh, wow.
03:20So we're really excited to welcome her into school.
03:22Yeah, yeah.
03:23I wouldn't mind coming in and seeing that.
03:25Wouldn't it be interesting, that?
03:26Yeah.
03:27Well, thank you, miss.
03:27We'll take a little peep round your wonderful school.
03:31We're here with some pupils on their fantastic gym equipment.
03:34And who've we got?
03:35Just give us your first names, guys.
03:37Piper.
03:38Maya.
03:39Soren.
03:40Soren.
03:41Soren.
03:42That's a great name.
03:43What's your name?
03:44Elvie.
03:44Elvie.
03:45Cool.
03:45And I'm going to ask you, what do you like about your school?
03:49I might come to you first, boss.
03:50Tell me something nice that you like about your school.
03:53I really like how we try to do creative, creative, create just advocacy.
04:01Yeah.
04:01And like we have lots of worships in it and it's really fun learning about it.
04:06And we do lots of things to try and have the alignment.
04:09And we learn about how things about how like the rivers are dirty.
04:13That's what we're learning about at the moment in the water.
04:15All right.
04:16And we've learned about things like litter being in lots of places and pollution and lots of things like that.
04:21So it's learning about what you can do to make a difference, make things better.
04:26Good.
04:26Very good.
04:26And what about you?
04:29I really like the area that we're in.
04:32Yeah.
04:33And yesterday we went on a walk around our area.
04:39Yeah.
04:39And we were like seeing the different things and different like land use there is.
04:45Yeah.
04:46It's in a beautiful setting, isn't it?
04:48And then let's come around for you guys.
04:50What about you, Gladi?
04:51I was going to say about the art because I love art because of how creative you can be.
04:55And then I also love how small the school is because you can make lots of friends easily.
05:01And how including it is as well.
05:03That's a good comment.
05:04And what about you, boss?
05:05I just love French.
05:06French?
05:07Yeah.
05:08Have you been to France?
05:09Actually, I'm going really soon.
05:11Oh, are you?
05:12Yeah.
05:12Oh, what a perfect opportunity.
05:13Passport and I'm going in the October half term.
05:16So what is your favourite French word to say and pronounce?
05:21Je m'appelle.
05:22Je m'appelle.
05:22And that means?
05:23I am.
05:24Ah, well done.
05:25Cool.
05:25Well, thank you for spending some time with us guys and loving your gym equipment and carry
05:31on keeping fit and working hard.
