00:14Potentially every non-emergency federal government institution can get shut down.
00:19Previous shutdowns have affected food programs for low-income families,
00:23federally funded preschools and trash collection.
00:26National parks and museums could shut and immigration decisions could grind to a halt.
00:32President Trump has suggested vast numbers of people could be laid off.
00:37Cutting vast numbers of people out.
00:39But federal law enforcers, CIA, border control, hospital workers,
00:44air traffic control and the military all keep working.
00:49And ICE operations are likely to be deemed essential by the president,
00:53given his ongoing crackdown on illegal immigration.
00:56The last government shutdown took place under the first Trump administration back in 2019.
01:02That shutdown, the longest ever, was brought to an end after long lines at airports
01:08caused by unpaid security and air traffic controllers missing shifts
01:12became symbolic of a country brought to its knees.
01:16Similar pressure this time could force President Trump to make a deal with Congress.
