00:00President Trump is turning up the pressure on Senate Republicans, calling on them to abolish
00:07the filibuster as the government shutdown drags on through another week. Hopes for a deal now
00:13seem more uncertain after Tuesday's election results. Democrats swept those elections,
00:18gains they say validate their decision to hold the line until expired health care subsidies are
00:23addressed. Connecticut Democratic Senator Chris Murphy saying it would be very strange if on
00:29the heels of the American people rewarding Democrats for standing up and fighting, we
00:33surrendered without getting anything. He says Democrats are in an enormously strong position
00:38right now. Still, some moderate Democrats are quietly working with Republicans on a way out,
00:44insisting the election hasn't changed their approach. Meanwhile, President Trump, frustrated
00:49by the impasse, is pushing harder for Senate Republicans to act, calling the shutdown a major
00:55factor behind Republican losses on Tuesday. I don't think it was good for Republicans. I don't
01:00think it was good. I'm not sure it was good for anybody. But we had an interesting evening and we
01:05learned a lot. If you read the pollsters, the shutdown was a big factor, negative for the
01:11Republicans. The president has refused to meet with Democrats until the government reopens and is urging
01:16the Senate to end the filibuster, which requires 60 votes to pass any bill. But Majority Leader John
01:22Thune says that's not happening. He's promising Democrats a vote on health care as part of any
01:27deal, one that would still fall under filibuster rules.
