00:33Now, it is pertinent to note that this is the first time the U.S. government,
00:38this is the first U.S. government shut down in the last seven years.
00:47So the deadlock over healthcare and spending in U.S.,
00:52the U.S. government is now forced to shut down.
00:55This is the first time in seven years that the U.S. government is forced to shut down
01:00and the Senate Democrats have voted down a key bill on the spendings
01:06and the White House says that the agencies that are affected by this can shut down.
01:12So that's the breaking news that's coming in from the United States
01:19where there's a deadlock over healthcare and spending
01:21and the U.S. government is inching towards shutdown.
01:25The Senate Democrats have voted down a key bill on the spending
01:29and the White House has said that the agencies that are affected can shut down.
01:39And the U.S. government, this is the first time that the U.S. government
01:43is inching towards a shutdown in seven years.
01:47India Today's Geeta Mohan is now joining us with more details on this.
01:51Geeta, there's a deadlock over healthcare and spending in the U.S.
01:54after which the U.S. government is inching towards shutdown.
01:57Give us more details on this.
02:00Well, there is an executive department and agencies memorandum
02:06that has been put out by the president's office
02:09which clearly says pinning the blame on Democrats
02:15saying that they did not clear the passage of the bill
02:20and blocking it would mean that there is going to be a complete shutdown from 12 a.m.
02:29which starts right now.
02:31What the document says is that the policy demands of the Democrats are insane
02:38which include $1 trillion in new spending.
02:42So now the president's office has said that while they continue to support the 5371 bill for funding
02:50it has not gone through.
02:52So there will be a government shutdown.
02:54It is unprecedented in many ways than one
02:58and the document asks affected agencies
03:02which is primarily healthcare agencies
03:04that they execute their plans for an orderly shutdown.
03:10And it also goes on to say that it is unclear how long Democrats will maintain
03:15their untenable posture
03:17making the duration of the shutdown difficult to predict.
03:21So now the shutdown has begun
03:23and the government does not have a time frame in mind
03:28as to how long the shutdown will continue
03:30which means it could lead to furloughs and layoffs
03:33in the healthcare sector in the United States of America.
03:37This is federal funding which has been blocked
03:41the passage of which has been blocked by Democrats
03:44and another memorandum indicating that government functions
03:49should resume once the president has signed a bill providing for appropriation
03:54which means in the meanwhile
03:56the U.S. president is looking at how to get the funding in place
04:02so that this untimely government shutdown
04:07does not continue for a very long time.
04:10So again we'll have to wait and see how this really pans out.
04:13It's only 12 a.m.
04:14Tomorrow is when the morning in America
04:19is when the effects of the shutdown
04:21will start being visible and evident.
04:24For now the government is trying to see
04:26what it can do to ensure that the shutdown
04:29does not last long for now
04:30but there is no clarity on how long the shutdown will last.
04:34All right.
