The United States is facing the possibility of its first government shutdown in over six years as funding is set to expire at midnight. President Donald Trump warned that a shutdown is “probably likely” after last-minute White House talks with Senate Democrats, led by Chuck Schumer, failed to yield a deal. The standoff comes amid deep divisions over funding and healthcare, with no agreement in sight. Federal employees and essential workers may face furloughs or unpaid work if the government shuts down, and national services could be disrupted. Stay tuned for live updates, analysis, and breaking news on this developing crisis in Washington.

00:00Well, the Democrats want to shut it down, so when you shut it down, you have to do layoffs, so we'd be laying off a lot of people that are going to be very effective.
00:07We're doing well as a country, so the last thing we want to do is shut it down.
00:10They want open borders. They want men playing in women's sports.
00:14They want transgender for everybody. They never stop.
00:17They don't learn. We won an election in a landslide. They just don't learn.
00:20Trade schools are very important, and we've lost trade schools.
00:23We used to have a lot of trade schools in this country. We don't have them anymore.
00:27By opening up trade schools, because we're going to need employees. We're going to need people with skill.
00:32And I think I can say, Linda, you feel the same way. By opening up trade schools, this would be a giant...
00:37Mr. President, as we inch closer to a government shutdown this morning, you said you might do a lot of layoffs.
00:44If Doge is already reducing the federal workforce, why is it necessary to link more federal jobs cut to a shutdown?
00:52Well, the Democrats want to shut it down, so when you shut it down, you have to do layoffs.
00:56So we'd be laying off a lot of people that are going to be very affected, and the Democrats, they're going to be Democrats.
01:03As you know, we, this country, no country can afford to pay for illegal immigration, health care for everybody that comes into the country,
01:10and that's what they're insisting, and obviously have an obligation to not accept that.
01:15That would affect everybody.
01:16You know, when I see what we're doing with AI and all the plants that are opening up in the country, $17 trillion is coming in.
01:23If you compare that to Biden, Biden had, in four years, less than a trillion.
01:28We have $17 trillion, more than that.
01:30I think it's going to be much more than that, David, by the end of this year.
01:34I think it's going to be far over.
01:36That's a record.
01:36It's already a record in eight months.
01:39It's a record by a lot.
01:40And so we're doing well as a country, so the last thing we want to do is shut it down.
01:44But a lot of good can come down from shutdowns.
01:48We can get rid of a lot of things that we didn't want, and they'd be Democrat things, but they want open borders.
01:54They want men playing in women's sports.
01:56They want transgender for everybody.
01:58They never stop.
01:59They don't learn.
02:00We won an election in a landslide.
02:02They just don't learn.
02:03So we have no choice.
02:04I have to do that for the country.
02:06Yes?
02:06You mentioned a deal with Harvard, Mr. President.
02:09What is that deal?
02:10Will they be paying the administration?
02:12Well, we're in the process of getting very close, and Linda's finishing up the final details,
02:16and they'll be paying about $500 million, and they'll be operating trade schools.
02:22They're going to be teaching people how to do AI and lots of other things, engines, lots of things.
02:28You know, we need people in trade schools.
02:30I remember when I went to school, I had some people that weren't particularly good students,
02:33but they could take a motor or an engine apart, blindfolded, or put it back, blindfolded.
02:40But they weren't too good at other things, and many of them ended up doing better than the people that were.
02:47So trade schools are very important, and we've lost trade schools.
02:50We used to have a lot of trade schools in this country.
02:53We don't have them anymore.
02:54Well, we have tremendous plants opening, and we want to have people at top level for those plants,
02:59whether it's AI or whether it's automotive plants.
03:02You know, we have many automobile companies opening up plants in the United States.
03:07They're all coming back for two reasons.
03:09Tariffs, and I think they like November 5th.
03:12You know, they like the person that was chosen.
03:14And they're moving in from Canada.
03:16They're moving in from Mexico.
03:17They're coming in from all over the world.
03:20China is coming.
03:21They're all coming, and that way they avoid paying tariffs.
03:23So, you know, they're coming for that reason.
03:26So by opening up trade schools, because we're going to need employees.
03:29We're going to need people with skill.
03:31And I think I can say, Linda, you feel the same way.
03:33By opening up trade schools, this would be a giant trade school series of trade schools.
03:37It would be run by Harvard.
03:39Now, this is something that we're close to finalizing.
03:42We haven't done it yet.
03:44But they put up $500 million interest and everything else would go to that account.
03:49Meaning, go to the trade school.
03:53And, you know, it's a big investment in trade school.
03:55Done by very smart people.
03:57And then their sins are forgiven.
04:00So, we have a good chance of getting that close.
