00:03I'm Makshita Nanda Gopala with the next one.

00:09We begin by giving you a glimpse of what to expect on this edition of Super 6.
00:14We'll be, of course, focusing on what's played out at the Tamil Nadu Assembly
00:18where you had on the issue of FCRA and NEET,
00:21resolutions passed by the TVK government that got backing from the DMK.
00:25Along expected lines because you see again that there's not much of an ideological difference
00:29between the two parties.
00:32Even as a nationwide FCRA fight is playing out,
00:35we'll talk about really what's happening on that front.
00:37What's the delay in parliament about?
00:39Also coming up on the show, a horrifying crime that's been reported
00:43from a five-star hotel in the city of Bengaluru.
00:47A father strangling his two daughters to death in a hotel room,
00:51attempting to also take his own life.
00:54We'll get you all the details of the shocking incident of a parent
00:57killing his own children.
00:59With that, much more coming your way in this edition of Super 6.
01:02I'm Akshra Tananda Gopal.
01:03Here are the headlines.
01:09Sunset showdown intensifies amid deadlock.
01:12Government says ready for Chandachori debate as well in parliament,
01:16but only after Home Minister Amit Shah's statement on CJP protests.
01:26NDA and opposition MPs come face-to-face at the parliament complex.
01:30Rahul Sharam Karo-Chan said NDA march in parliament.
01:33Opposition MPs demand Home Minister and Prime Minister's apology.
01:44Opposition divided over FCRA bill.
01:46Congress and TMC demand withdrawal of the bill.
01:49DMK and NCPSP want bill to be referred to a JPC.
01:57ABVP protests in Ranchi turns ugly amid BJP's banth call.
02:02Cops crack down on protesters during ABVP march to Gerao Vidan Sabha.
02:06Multiple protesters faint amid clash.
02:12And Bengaluru Hotel double murder shocker.
02:15Father kills his two daughters at Bengaluru Five Star Hotel.
02:18Killer father Imran attempts suicide after murder.
02:21Note found on spot claims wife's illicit affair.
02:42And let's begin with breaking news coming in.
02:44A lot of questions about what really will happen with the FCRA bill in parliament.
02:49Will it be introduced by the government or not?
02:51Now there's speculation that in all likelihood the bill could be sent to a JPC,
02:56to a joint parliamentary committee to figure out exactly what are the sticking points
03:01to look into several aspects of the amendment to the FCRA that's being proposed by the government.
03:07But here's where it's interesting.
03:09You've got two sides essentially on this.
03:12The DMK and the NCPSP want the bill to be sent to the JPC.
03:17And reportedly the government is open to that.
03:20A decision is expected very soon on that.
03:22The BJD is also for JPC.
03:25The Congress, however, as is the TMC,
03:27they're demanding the withdrawal of this particular bill.
03:31And so at this point, there's clearly a split really in the opposition ranks
03:35of which way they want to see this bill being moved.
03:38The Congress and TMC saying nothing to them.
03:40We want this to be withdrawn.
03:42Several other parties seem to suggest that they're okay with a JPC.
03:46The government hopes, therefore, that the opposition will soften its stand on delimitation
03:50on women's reservation if they give in to this demand of a JPC.
03:54One of those parties really that's in the spotlight over this is the DMK,
03:59which has made it very clear that they're against this FCRA amendment bill.
04:02But if it's sent to the JPC as they're demanding, you never know.
04:05Maybe they'll come on board for delimitation because that's what the NDA is pushing for.
04:10Let me bring in Aishwarya Paliwal for more details on this.
04:13Aishwarya, good evening.
04:14What are you hearing from your sources?
04:16Is the government to open, Aishwarya, to sending the FCRA bill to the JPC?
04:22Well, Lakshita, you know, at the moment it definitely seems like so
04:25because the opposition is a divided house.
04:27Most of the opposition parties, however, are tilting in favor of sending this bill to the JPC.
04:33But two main opposition parties, the TNC and the Congress party,
04:37they believe that this is a bill which should be completely withdrawn.
04:40This is something that the government is not willing to do at the moment.
04:43JPC, that's an idea that the government at the moment is mulling.
04:46For the government, it's the FCRA.
04:48For FCRA, you do not need two-third majority.
04:51You just need simple majority, something that the government already has.
04:54But for the delimitation, you do need many more opposition parties to be on your side.
05:00You do want them to vote in your favor.
05:03That's the reason why at the moment, from what I understand,
05:05the government is considering sending the FCRA to the JPC
05:09because that is something that most of the opposition parties at the moment want.
05:12They believe that there are certain sections which need to be very thoroughly looked at
05:17and they also believe that they need to go back and speak with people in their states
05:21and once they get clarity, they will be able to put forth all those points in the JPC.
05:27And the support, as Aishwarya points out, of the DMK of the NCPSP is crucial
05:31for the NDA to ensure the passage of delimitation.
05:34So it's essentially almost as if that is being prioritized over the FCRA bill.
05:38They don't want to burn bridges just to ensure the FCRA bill's passage,
05:42which is easy technically because that just needs a simple majority.
05:45But it's about messaging.
05:47This is a catch-22 situation that we spoke of here on India Today.
05:50We've given you details of this, that the BJP, the NDA believes that the moment they push through the FCRA
05:55bill,
05:56all the parties who bid on the fence, who they've been attempting to convince to get on board for the
06:00delimitation bill,
06:01will then immediately back off and not provide support.
06:05And so they're putting the focus on delimitation and prioritizing the delimitation bill and women's reservations.
06:11So we'll see if that gamble plays off.
06:12For the moment, we are hearing that in all likelihood,
06:15the FCRA bill will not be brought up in Parliament over the next two days,
06:18the remainder of the monsoon session, essentially, it'll move to a JPC.
06:24Okay, let's move on and also talk about how we've been seeing a war of words over FCRA in Tamil
06:30Nadu.
06:30Today, a resolution was passed at the Tamil Nadu Assembly opposing FCRA,
06:35essentially urging the Modi government to withdraw this bill.
06:38So that's the stand of the TVK at a time when the DMK says we're okay with a JPC as
06:43well.
06:44This by itself has led to a political war of words.
06:46Why? Because while you had the DMK and TVK backing this resolution as they have on NEET,
06:51another one that was brought in in the Assembly today, the BJP is objected.
06:55They claim that the TVK has become a pro-Christian voice.
06:59And this at a time when there have also been multiple other issues, controversies,
07:04that the BJP is building on to level this accusation against the TVK.
07:08Let's get you all the details first of what transpired.
07:12The Vijay government's big Christian symbolism is now in focus.
07:18Joseph Vijay government facing questions over remarks and actions backing Christianity.
07:24It has moved a resolution in the Tamil Nadu Assembly opposing the Foreign Contribution Regulation Amendment Bill 2026,
07:32stating that the bill could impact the autonomy of charitable organisations,
07:37particularly minority-run educational and social welfare institutions.
08:02Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Murray Wilson made a controversial comparison between Tamil and Christianity,
08:08saying that Christianity teaches the language of love, peace and compassion, which Tamil does not.
08:34But the controversy does not end there.
08:36This comes days after Wilson entered the Assembly carrying a rosary
08:40and made the sign of the cross before presenting the state's revised budget,
08:45triggering criticism over religious symbolism inside the House.
08:49Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker and TVK leader J.C.D. Prabhakar
08:53joined an anti-abortion rally in Chennai,
08:56organised by the Catholic Christian community,
08:58backing the right to life of the unborn.
09:20The Christian pro-life position generally holds that unborn life deserves protection,
09:25but some women's rights advocates argue for bodily autonomy and reproductive choice,
09:31putting two competing rights at the heart of the debate.
09:35Participates in such a rally and he talks favouring the very same.
09:38Now we defend the rights of the fathers and the priests
09:43who took part in the particular rally to democratically put across their views.
09:49We defend the rights.
09:50But then again, if it's a Hindu, the question is absolutely different.
09:54You get taunted, you get tarnished.
09:57Now the BJP is turning up the heat, calling TVK a Christian party,
10:02alleging a hidden agenda and questioning Chief Minister Vijay's silence.
10:06This is nothing but selective outrage.
10:08The outrage is only against Hindus, the Hindu religion and the people who believe in the faith.
10:13So these people are not non-believers in God.
10:16They are non-believers in the Hindu culture and they are against Hinduism.
10:19And TVK is only aligned with such forces, the IUML, the Congress, the VCK, the Communists.
10:24And TVK is, I'm telling you again, TVK is just a Christian party.
10:27It is only for the Christians.
10:30One party, multiple Christian references, one growing political storm.
10:35Is TVK being unfairly targeted or is the BJP exposing Vijay government's political strategy?
10:42With Apoorva and Anagha Keshav in Chennai, Bureau Report, India Today.
10:49Okay, let me open this.
10:51Joining us on this broadcast over all that we've seen in the last few hours,
10:56we've got Ashwatama, State Secretary of the Tamil Nadu BJP, Mr. Satya Kumar,
11:00TVK National Spokesperson and Mr. Shekhar Iyer, Senior Journalist.
11:04Mr. Ashwatama and Mr. Satya Kumar joined me just about an hour ago on our Tamil broadcast.
11:08So, I hope it doesn't get as heated as that.
11:11But Mr. Shekhar Iyer, that's why I let you have the first word before I hand it over to the
11:15politicians.
11:16What do you make of really the stand that's come in on the FCRA bill, sir?
11:20And the fact that now you've got the DMK saying, send it across to a JPC,
11:24the TVK saying, withdraw this bill.
11:26And the allegation, therefore, that the TVK is pro-Christian.
11:30Well, as far as the FCRA bill is concerned, the position of most of the southern parties,
11:39including the DMK, because they have been approached by various minority institutions
11:44and religious institutions seeking their intervention.
11:48Because they say that already the existing law was itself very tough on them
11:53in terms of maintaining their accounts and getting registration, renewing registration.
11:59Now, this particular bill has stoked even more greater concern
12:04because it reduces the percentage of money that they receive that can be shown as administrative costs.
12:11That's a big thing because earlier it allowed 50% of contributions to be shown as administrative costs.
12:17Second thing is, now it has got reduced to not more than, I think, 30%.
12:23That's one.
12:24The second thing is, I think that's a clause which has seen opposition to the bill all over the country,
12:30particularly from these institutions, that is relating to the asset takeover
12:34in case of registration being cancelled or not being renewed.
12:38Now, that's a thing which the government has already signaled to these parties
12:42that this matter can be further debated.
12:45And the Home Minister himself has engaged some church leaders.
12:49So, that is one thing.
12:50But coming to Vijay, Vijay's TVK cannot take a position that is different from what the support base feels.
12:58So, the TVK's victory was largely because the minority vote and the Dalit vote
13:04and probably sections of OBC vote shifted en masse from the DMK to TVK.
13:10So, you're suggesting it's a political compulsion here.
13:12Yes, absolutely.
13:14Because any dilly-dally and the fact that TVK doesn't have a representation in parliament,
13:19it let go an opportunity even to have a single member of parliament for the simple reason.
13:25It didn't want to get into a controversy when Vijay is very keen.
13:29He is focused in Tamil Nadu and Tamil Nadu is developing.
13:32So, what we are seeing is not surprising.
13:35At the same time, even on the NEET, see, even the NEET is going to undergo a lot of change.
13:39But Vijay wants to put it on record that his government is never on a back foot in all these
13:44issues.
13:45Sure.
13:45That's grandstanding, very clearly.
13:47Mr. Satyakumar, your response to the opposition party suggesting that, you know,
13:53you're representing and you're pro one particular religion.
13:59Akshita, never Akshita.
14:01If you look at our party ideology, secular social justice, it's unfairly been targeted by forces
14:08which wanted to kind of put a... who have a color.
14:14We are fairly and we are here for secular social justice.
14:20That's our ideology and everywhere we reflect it.
14:24Whether it is a scheme that we bring in, whether it is respecting Tamil sentiment or bringing out the Tamil
14:30pride,
14:30we are first to do that.
14:32Since you're speaking of Tamil pride, sir, you know, the controversy is over what Minister Murray Wilson has said in
14:38the assembly
14:39where essentially there's, you know, a reference to Christianity, there's a reference to the Tamil language
14:44and which really taught him love.
14:47See, Akshita, the constitution of India always provides rights for any legislator even to derive his faith.
14:56And there are some legislatures who don't have faith.
14:58100%.
14:59There's no question about that.
15:00And accordingly, what did he say in state assembly is very simple.
15:02It is his personal belief that he is talking about.
15:05He is trying to say belief in God or belief in a religion has no connection with the language.
15:11No connection with the language.
15:13In a sense, through language, you understand a religion.
15:16By understanding the religion, you realize.
15:19What he's trying to essentially say, he's able to realize the values of his religion,
15:25not just because he knows some language, but because he has understood it and he's able to realize it and
15:31internalize it.
15:33That's what he's trying to say in the assembly.
15:35I 100% Mr. Satya Kumar, you know, when you speak of religion, Mr. Wilson,
15:39and we remember having this conversation on India today when he had a rosary that he carried in before presenting
15:45the budget,
15:46it's his call.
15:48That's the religion he follows.
15:49He's free to practice.
15:50He's free to follow it.
15:51He's free to go ahead and speak of it.
15:53But the reference to Tamil is what's led to a controversy here.
15:57Mr. Ashwatthama, do you buy the TVK's defense?
16:00One second, Akisha.
16:00Okay, go ahead.
16:01Can I just improve it?
16:02Complete.
16:02If you can provide, with the permission of Ashwatthama.
16:04See, the issue here is, what he's trying to say is important.
16:08See, on what context?
16:10People were criticizing on his language proficiency.
16:16And he said, whatever is convenient to him, in that way he will communicate.
16:22And then later he goes on to say, he has learned good qualities from a religion,
16:27what he believes in, which is fundamentally allowed by the Constitution of India to speak in legislative assembly.
16:32That's where he says, for realization, language is not a problem.
16:36For being a good human being, language is not a problem.
16:38Since I'm getting clarifications from you, Mr. Satya Kumar,
16:41let's also refer to the other elephant in the room.
16:43What I'm showing on my screen right now, of the Tamil Nadu speaker attending an anti-abortion rally.
16:52Mr. Satya Kumar?
16:54Yeah.
16:55See, with respect to attending the program, again, the program is not conducted by the state, as for Article 12.
17:02The program is his personal program, where he is sitting with the priest of a respective churches,
17:09where they believe in the values for which they are propaganding.
17:13Accordingly, it is the wish of any individual, just because they become minister,
17:19that does not mean they need to conceal their fight.
17:21Neither Honorable Prime Minister of India need to conceal his faith.
17:25Neither Mr. J.C.D. Prabhakar, who is Speaker of the Assembly, need to conceal his faith.
17:30That there is no rule, there is no article under the Constitution of India to say,
17:34you have become a minister, you are occupying a constitutional position,
17:38don't believe on anything what you believe individually.
17:41It is his personal belief.
17:42Nowhere, if you see in the program, there is no Tamil Nadu government logo.
17:46It is not a government program.
17:47Okay, that's an important clarification.
17:49That's an important clarification, that it's not a government event.
17:53But there will be an argument, sir, that someone who is a representative,
17:56when he speaks against abortion, is very strict, with strong messaging there.
18:01But I'll bring in Mr. Ashwatam, who's been waiting very patiently.
18:04Mr. Ashwatam, go ahead.
18:06I incline to ask my friend Satya Kumar again.
18:11Everybody has the right to follow the religion, no doubt at all.
18:15But you don't have a right to reproach our own language in the Assembly.
18:20This is very disturbing to all Tamilian.
18:23Your minister, your finance minister said,
18:26Today, I obtained love and mercy while reading Bible.
18:32You guys are not able to get those mercy and love by reading Tamil literatures.
18:39Whatever you read from Tamil, you will not get it.
18:43It is against Tamil.
18:46We are the Tamil.
18:48We are the Tamil.
18:48Teach the world.
18:50Thought the world even before the birth of Jesus Christ.
18:53Even 2,000 years, 3,000 years before the birth of Jesus.
18:58We thought to the world,
19:00Love is God.
19:01Anbe Shiva.
19:02Anbe Rukumundu Adekum Thal.
19:05That word is very condemnable used by the finance minister in the Assembly.
19:11And as well as another incident.
19:14Yesterday, you passed a J.O.
19:16That Tamil Thayu Althu should be seen.
19:19At the threshold, in every function, every education institution, you passed a J.O.
19:26But another minister from TVK government participated in the Christian school function.
19:32Even before the Tamil Thayu Althu, Christianity's song allowed to be played.
19:38So, Tamil Thayu Althu after Vandey Madharam is a problem to TVK.
19:45Tamil Thayu Althu after Christian songs, it is not a problem.
19:50So, is it a government of Tamil Nadu or driven by missionary government?
19:58That is a very important question now.
20:00The BJP is calling this a missionary government now.
20:03See, Akshita, this is a program conducted by a religious organization.
20:08So, fundamentally...
20:10No, no, no.
20:10No, no.
20:10Sorry, my friend.
20:11It is a conducted program at an educational institution.
20:14You are J.O.
20:15Let me come back.
20:16Let me come back.
20:17That's what I'm trying to explain.
20:18No, no.
20:19You are J.O.
20:20For a minute, I'll explain and then you can give your counter.
20:22For a minute, I'll explain.
20:23Definitely, you're trying to explain to an extent where we're raising this controversy.
20:26Mr. Satya Kumar.
20:27See, it's a minority institution.
20:29There are some special privileges for a minority institutions where they can play.
20:34What I'm speaking is law.
20:36What I'm speaking is constitution.
20:38They have a special privileges to play the prayer songs,
20:41subsequently followed by the state pride, that is Tamil Thayu Althu,
20:45and then subsequently for a national song.
20:47Coming back to the arguments that Mr. Ashwat Thaman is trying to place here
20:52is with respect to the state programs.
20:54The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India Guidelines,
20:59The J.O. is very clear.
21:01Do read your J.O.
21:02Do read your own government J.O.
21:04The J.O. is very clear.
21:06All the education institutions should be followed this threshold of the function.
21:12You should think Tamil Thayu Althu.
21:13See, all education institutions should mandatorily play...
21:16There is no exception.
21:18There is no exception.
21:19No, sir.
21:20You also said...
21:21So, Satya Kumar, the minority education institutions have an exception.
21:24With regard to the funding, it means that while filing the application,
21:30you have to reserve a fund.
21:32There are exceptions for the minority institution.
21:34But in this J.O., there is explicit exception not given to the education institution,
21:42which are our minority, our machinery, whatever it may be.
21:45Without giving those exceptions, if you give such kind of exceptions to the minority institution,
21:51missionary institutions, it is against equality.
21:55Fair point.
21:56Do you want to come in on that?
21:57History equality.
21:57Mr. Satya Kumar.
21:58Ashita, Ashita.
21:58Yeah.
21:59In ideologically run schools, like Rashtia, Swamyam, Sevak schools,
22:03fundamentally, the prayers are given importance.
22:06And then subsequently, Tamil pride is given importance.
22:09And certain times, they first give importance to national song and then Tamil pride.
22:12You can check in schools which are run in Tamil Nadu.
22:15It is respected.
22:17It is what is the theme that they follow.
22:19Coming back to the Christian institution, which is a minority-run institution,
22:22where the mandate of the J.O. is to play Tamil Nadu before national song.
22:31It does not mandate Tamil Nadu before prayer of a particular religious institution.
22:36Accordingly, what a Christian institution...
22:37And this is only for minority institutions, you are telling me?
22:40This is only for minority institutions?
22:42The J.O. says you have to play Tamil Nadu before national song.
22:47The J.O. doesn't say you have to play Tamil Nadu before prayer of song.
22:50The J.O. clearly says that Tamil Nadu, Tamil Nadu should be played at the threshold of every function,
22:57every program, organized...
22:59At the beginning of February, at the start of February.
23:01The function itself begins...
23:02And as well as, and as well as, my friend Sathya agreed my earlier point that
23:07their problem is Tamil Nadu after Christian song is not a problem to them.
23:19No, no, no. Say, Ashwat Amman...
23:20No, you agreed now.
23:22No, no, no.
23:22No, no. You agreed now, man.
23:25See, in case of RSS, Rastriya Swayam Seva...
23:28Vande Madalam is the problem.
23:29No, no, no.
23:29Let me complete Ashwat Amman.
23:31No, no, no. RSS is cool.
23:32Let me complete Ashwat Amman.
23:33One at a time.
23:34Let me complete it.
23:35For a minute, Ashwat Amman.
23:36For a minute.
23:36I am an RSS Swayam Seva.
23:37I am clarifying.
23:38I know, Ashwat Amman.
23:40That's what, I am not criticizing, I am not saying anything.
23:43I am only trying to put up as a point.
23:44No, no, no.
23:44Everything is respected.
23:46No, no. It should not be.
23:46Every ideology is respected.
23:47In a program conducted by RSS...
23:50Akshita.
23:51Even in a program conducted by RSS, Tamish Taivari is there.
23:56In RSS run institutions where...
23:59In institutions also.
24:01I don't know.
24:03Fundamentally, RSS prayers are first sung and then subsequently Tamir Taivari comes.
24:09And at the end of it or in the middle of it, they also play Vandey Mataram.
24:14So, it won't a place to an RSS institution.
24:16It should not be an exception for a Christian institution.
24:18That's what I am trying to say.
24:19No, no, no.
24:20What you are saying, Mr. Satyakumar...
24:21You are speaking about the Tamil Nadu BJP protocol.
24:23It is not a RSS protocol.
24:24No, RSS schools.
24:25My friend is speaking about the Tamil Nadu BJP protocol.
24:30We are used to sing a Tamir Taivari in the beginning of the program.
24:34At the end of the program, you are used to sing Vandey Mataram.
24:37But I am speaking about the G.O.
24:39Satya clarified the earlier portion of the G.O.
24:42I am asking you, after the G.O., you permitted missionary institution to sing the song.
24:46Their Christianity prayer song, even before the Tamil Nadu.
24:50You will not allow Hindu institutions to do so.
24:55Everybody knows that.
24:56My friend Nath had answered the question that your finance minister stands that I will not get love and mercy
25:03while reading the Tamil literature.
25:05What is your...
25:06No, no, no.
25:06He didn't say that.
25:07Ultimately, Mr. Satyakumar, this is the charge.
25:09The charge is that this power government, the TVK government is pro one particular religion.
25:14And this is what I started off with.
25:16You hear it here from the BJP constantly, where they are citing references, instances to back this.
25:23Fundamentally, Akshita, I am not defending even as a TVK or even as a party man or I am not
25:28even defending the government.
25:29I am trying to say what he has tried to say.
25:32It is his personal belief what he is trying to say is, he has realized the values of his religion
25:37that he believes.
25:38Not through the language, any language for that matter.
25:41It is in his own way that he has realized.
25:44Language is not the barrier, it is the positive connotation.
25:46What Ashwad Tamar is trying to say, he is trying to say that he is against Tamil.
25:52That is not the intent.
25:53That is not the intent at all.
25:55He has also said whatever language he is speaking, he speaks in his own capacity.
25:59That is all he can do.
26:00One small question.
26:01Nobody need to correct that.
26:02Quickly, sir.
26:02Quickly.
26:03Mr. Murray Wilson said.
26:05Did he use the word any language or did he use the word Tamil language?
26:10He said Tamil.
26:11He said Tamil.
26:13In assembly, people speak Tamil.
26:14The question is, Mr. Satyakubar is saying, sir, essentially that there is no other language spoken.
26:20It is not like Hindi is spoken in the Tamil Nadu assembly.
26:23Pardon me?
26:24There is no other language spoken in the assembly, sir.
26:27Exactly.
26:28No, no, no, no.
26:28It is not like Hindi is spoken.
26:29No, no, no.
26:30The question before the finance minister was, you are not well-wesed in reading and writing Tamil.
26:36Yeah.
26:36That was the question.
26:37It is the problem of Tamil Nadu.
26:40You can get a degree without literacy here.
26:44Okay, quickly, Mr. Satyakubar.
26:45I see the hand up so quickly, please.
26:47I don't have time.
26:47I spoke to the finance minister.
26:48Achita, I will clarify.
26:49No, no, no.
26:50I am inclined to put this.
26:52I spoke to the finance minister about this.
26:53Okay, sir.
26:54Okay, sir.
26:54There are seconds to each.
26:55Mr. Ashweta Marfarski.
26:56I spoke to the finance minister, Mr. Vani Wilson.
26:59I asked him what is the interpretation of it.
27:02He clarified to me, saying that what he meant was, language is not the barrier to realize
27:07any religion.
27:09Even religion can be realized through meditation.
27:11Okay.
27:12As simple as that.
27:13It did not require any language.
27:15We'll leave it...
27:18What would be the useful purpose to rope your religion in the...
27:21Sir, I've run out of time.
27:22Mr. Shekhar Iyer, quickly, last word to you, sir.
27:24Because you waited very patiently.
27:26Do you buy the TVK's defense, sir?
27:28In respect to what the finance minister said.
27:30No, I think it is very difficult to defend Wilson's remark.
27:34Because, ironically, the first Bible version in any Indian language was published in Tamil
27:41in 1714 to 1715 by a German theologian.
27:45So, you know, I think he probably mixed up or that's one.
27:50Number two, speaker initially started the assembly session from reading out from the Bible.
27:56That was also objected to because the earlier practice was to read from what is considered
28:00a secular text, that is Tirukkural.
28:02So, I think there is a growing perception in Tamil Nadu that whether it comes to important
28:09appointments, when it comes to...
28:10There is a tendency to point people belong to a particular domination.
28:17That is what is fueling both the objections from the DMK as well as the BJP.
28:22That's an interesting thing that's happening in Tamil Nadu today.
28:25Okay.
28:25Mr. Shekhar Iyer, thank you for joining us.
28:27Mr. Saty Kumar and Mr. Ashwat Amand, thank you for your time.
28:31The other highlight from the Tamil Nadu assembly is that we saw a resolution passed on NEET.
28:35Tamil Nadu has made it stand clear.
28:37It's been one of the biggest political contentions really in Tamil Nadu.
28:41And as expected here too, you have the TVK and the DMK on the same page versus the BJP,
28:45the lone BJP MLA in the Tamil Nadu assembly staged a walkout when this resolution was passed.
28:55After the Tamil Nadu assembly unanimously passed a resolution on the Tamil anthem,
29:00the Vijay government has got resolutions on NEET and the FCRA passed in the assembly.
29:09The NEET resolution seeks to scrap the medical entrance exam and bring medical admissions back under the state government.
29:49The
29:53All parties backed the resolution, except the BJP, which staged a walkout in protest.
30:01If the TVK government really wants to ban it, the place they need to be fighting this
30:05out is in the Supreme Court, which passed the law.
30:07It is not in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
30:09This is just political theatrics and does not make any sense and does not affect or
30:14does not influence the outcome of these students.
30:17The DMK, which backed the resolution, sought to take credit for the move.
30:36While the resolution to scrap NEET has been passed, the real test will come next year.
30:42Will the Vijay government challenge the centre over NEET?
30:47With Apoorva Jai Chandran, Anika Keshav and Pramod Madhav, Bureau Report, India Today.
31:06Okay, let's cut across to more breaking news that's coming in right now.
31:09This is with regards to that horrifying incident of the Air India AI-2379 turbulence case in
31:16which there was a suspicion that the pilot in command had consumed some psychotropic substance
31:21because in the first test, first dope test, the test of positive information we have is
31:27that in the second test to the pilot has tested positive.
31:30The information that's coming in, trickling in, in this particular case is that the screening
31:35test of the pilot in command had indicated a result which required confirmatory testing.
31:41Samples were sent to the designated lab and in that confirmatory analysis, the result has emerged positive.
31:50Extremely worrying this because what it confirms is that there were lapses and the pilot who was
31:56in fact flying that plane was on some psychotropic substance.
32:02What?
32:02We don't know.
32:02But he's tested positive in the first test of, in the first dope test.
32:07Now, in the second also reportedly has tested positive.
32:10Amit Bharatwaj is joining us with more details on this.
32:12Amit, extremely concerning this.
32:14What are you picking up from your sources?
32:17Absolutely right, Ashita.
32:18Concerning you because, you know, we, from the day one, there was a lot of concern about
32:25sudden dip of 300 feet mid-air Air India AI-2379 flight, took it Delhi flight.
32:33And now, when they had landed, we had gotten to know through our sources that both of the
32:37pilots had gone through this test, which in, you know, common man's language can be said
32:44that both tests and the result of pilots in command, which becomes even more crucial for
32:50that particular aircraft.
32:52So, the CIC test result had shown or indicated certain elements which required confirmatory
32:58tests, which means that it was indicating towards positive results and hence the confirmatory
33:04tests were conducted.
33:06And now sources, top sources within the ministry have confirmed us that the second test that
33:12was conducted has come out to be positive.
33:15So, this is the pilot in command of AI-2379, who has come positive for the DOPE test, the
33:23second test confirmatory test that was conducted.
33:26These sources have also informed us that, you know, both the pilots had gone through this,
33:33underwent the test when the flight had landed in the national capital.
33:37And because it was the PIC, whose test results were showing or requiring a confirmation on
33:45this particular aspect and that is why it was sent to a prescribed lab.
33:49Now, we do not know as to what exactly, what exact substance is this, but the DOPE test result
33:56has come out to be positive now.
33:58The Air India CEO was called to the ministry today and there was a meeting that was conducted
34:05by the top officials of the Ministry of Civilization and AAID, which is probing the entire incident.
34:11Right.
34:11So, there is now an investigation, even as along that we have seen this particular
34:17second DOPE test being conducted on the pilot, extremely concerning that now reportedly
34:22he has tested positive in that too.
34:25And so, there will be a question of whether additional screening of these pilots is the
34:29need of the hour.
34:30There is a breathalyzer that happens, of course, for every time the pilot is going to go ahead
34:35and board a flight.
34:36Now, there will be questions.
34:37What do you do?
34:37How do you control what substance they have consumed before a flight?
34:41We are going to track very closely the investigation into that particular incident.
34:51Let's get your breaking news coming in from Karnataka, where guess what?
34:54There has been no announcement just yet on the portfolios allocated to the ministers in
34:59the DKS Sarkar.
35:00It's been nine days since the cabinet expansion, which by itself took a lifetime, took two months
35:06for any sort of clarity on who would be a part of the cabinet.
35:09And now that that decision has been taken, the 19 ministers who have been brought in to
35:15the government, their portfolios haven't been allocated just yet.
35:19Every single day, we've got Chief Minister D.K.
35:21Shiv Kumar saying today it will happen.
35:22Yesterday, we reported exactly at this time with Super 6 that D.K.
35:27Shiv Kumar says tonight it will happen.
35:28Didn't happen.
35:29Today, we're reporting on the same thing.
35:31And today, again, you've got D.K.
35:32Shiv Kumar saying today the allocation of portfolios will happen.
35:36August 3rd is when these 19 Karnataka ministers took oath.
35:41Now, it's still a question mark.
35:43Nine days on, where the portfolios, who will get what, the high command has to decide.
35:49This is a government in Karnataka that's being run from Delhi by the high command.
35:54And the decisions are taking time.
36:09Sagaraj is joining us live with more details on this.
36:12Sagaraj, we had the exact same conversation yesterday.
36:14I'm going to ask you the same question.
36:16What's with the delay?
36:21So far, what we get to learn through our sources is that no communication from Delhi.
36:27The Chief Minister's office is eagerly waiting for a communication from Delhi.
36:31And what we also get to learn is probably end of the day, probably by tonight,
36:35they might allocate the ministries to all the cabinet ministers.
36:39And remember that the Chief Minister has also called for the minister's meeting tomorrow.
36:44And this will be a meeting of how to tackle the assembly session, which is going to commence from 13.
36:51So, ahead of assembly session in Karnataka,
36:54DK Shukumar has called the minister.
36:56And much before that, all the ministers will be allocated their portfolio.
37:01Okay, let's see if it happens.
37:03You are suggesting that it's going to happen tonight, but we never really know,
37:08because ultimately this is a decision, Sagaraj, that's not being taken in Bengaluru.
37:12It's a decision that's being taken in Delhi.
37:15And while, yes, one aspect of this is portfolio allocation,
37:18the other is about the inclusion of a woman in the cabinet.
37:22Hasn't happened yet.
37:23There's only one position left.
37:24And so, we'll have to see whether that is finally filled up,
37:28whether a woman leader is announced or not.
37:31There has been quite a bit of infighting over this as well.
37:34But let me...
37:40Amid the Bidadi controversy,
37:41the Karnataka Chief Minister, DK Shukumar, has met with the farmers.
37:44Remember that in Bidadi, there's a planned AI tech city
37:48that was proposed by the Karnataka Chief Minister.
37:51It's led to protests, it's led to a showdown.
37:53And since then, for the first time, DK Shukumar has visited Bidadi
37:56and has met with some of the protesters, met with farmers,
38:01saying very clearly that all of their concerns will be addressed.
38:05DK Shukumar saying that compensation will be provided to these farmers
38:09and all necessary steps will be taken.
38:11Also slamming the politics over it,
38:14saying the BJP and JDS were for this project.
38:16What's changed?
38:32And let's now get your details of a shocking double murder
38:37that's been reported in Bengaluru.
38:39A 40-year-old man has been accused of strangling his two young daughters.
38:44And this happened inside the room of a five-star hotel,
38:47very close to the Bengaluru airport before attempting suicide himself.
38:51Now, these pictures are distressing,
38:54so we will advise viewer discretion.
38:57But essentially, the suggestion is that it was
39:00courtesy of a marital dispute over an alleged affair
39:03that was the trigger.
39:05The father has survived after attempting suicide.
39:08His two daughters, unfortunately, are no more.
39:17A father, two little girls, and a five-star hotel room turned into a scene of unimaginable horror.
39:26Bengaluru has been drugged by twin murders.
39:29A 40-year-old man strangled his own daughters, aged five and ten.
39:36The accused, identified as S.G. Imran, allegedly carried out the killings following a bitter marital dispute.
39:44Police recovered a note in which he claimed to suspect his wife of an extra marital affair,
39:50alleging he had evidence to prove it.
39:54After the killings, Imran reportedly tried to end his own life by slitting his throat.
39:59His screams alerted hotel security staff,
40:02who rushed to the room and swiftly informed the police.
40:06Imran is currently undergoing treatment and is said to be out of danger.
40:10DCP of Bengaluru's northeast has confirmed the sequence of events,
40:15calling it a case rooted in domestic discord that escalated into unthinkable violence.
40:21We have recovered a note also, which says that he and his wife had some marital dispute.
40:28And preliminary investigation says that that was one of the motives.
40:34We are still investigating the case and we have to find out if there are any angles remaining in this
40:41particular case.
40:43The incident has sent shockwaves through the city.
40:46Once again, turning the spotlight on the devastating human cost of unresolved domestic conflict.
40:54Bureau Report, India Today.
40:59So this was an incident that took place two days ago.
41:02Like I said, it's very close to the Bengaluru airport in one of, in fact,
41:07the hotels there in that stretch is where this incident happened.
41:11Here's what we know.
41:12The accused identified as Imran, 40 years old.
41:15He checked into this hotel at about 7pm with his two daughters.
41:19Now, in fact, these daughters are young pre-teens.
41:24He, in fact, informed the staff that he's also expecting a guest after midnight.
41:30Right after that, accused Imran failed to check out on August 10th.
41:36So he was checked in for one day.
41:38When he failed to check out at the time, the staff decided to check what's happening.
41:43They knocked on the room door, didn't get a response for the longest time.
41:47Finally, at 4.30pm is when the staff decided to do something about it.
41:51They knocked on the door once again.
41:53There was no answer.
41:54The manager was called in.
41:56The manager opened the door with a duplicate key.
41:58And what did they find?
42:00The two children found dead on the bed.
42:02They were strangled to death by their father.
42:06The accused himself, Imran, was found lying in the washroom.
42:09He'd slit his throat.
42:11He was found in a critical condition, still alive.
42:13He is now in a hospital.
42:15He claims that this is because his wife was having an illicit affair.
42:19And here's what he has told the police.
42:21That he'd rather have his daughters dead than find out about what their mother was up to.
42:27This is what he said.
42:34Now, the news break coming in is with regards to the Air India turbulence case.
42:39Remember those images?
42:40The scary ones are off a flight facing unprecedented turbulence from Phuket to Delhi,
42:45leaving several of the passengers injured.
42:47Well, the pilot doped test, the second doped test that's come in.
42:51Once again, the pilot in command has tested positive.
42:53And now more details coming in of the substance that he consumed.
42:58The test, in fact, has come positive for marijuana.
43:02So, the substance has also been confirmed in the second test.
43:06It is reportedly marijuana is what we're hearing.
43:10The Air India pilot in command has tested positive in the second doped test.
43:15So, they conducted the second test as a confirmatory analysis considering in the first one he tested positive.
43:21The second one has also thrown up more details suggesting that the pilot had consumed marijuana just before getting on
43:28the flight.
43:29And so, that's why in the test that's been conducted,
43:32we're now getting in details really of what kind of illegal substance he was on.
43:38And we'll have to see what details emerge really about the pilot here when he consumed these drugs
43:45and what kind of steps are being taken now by Air India against this pilot.
43:51Let's bring in Amit Bharatwaj for more details on this.
43:53Amit, so now we've also got that confirmation that the pilot had consumed marijuana just before this flight.
44:02Yes, Akshita, you know, just a moment back we were speaking about as to how the second doped test
44:08or the confirmatory test of the pilot in command, that is the PIT of AI2C79, had come positive
44:16and now sources have also confirmed that the substance that has come positive.
44:22So, as to the sources, the pilot PIT had consumed marijuana and that is exactly what the samples were indicating
44:32towards.
44:33So, after the first test, the PIT sample was sent for the second test, the confirmatory test
44:39and the result has come positive for that as well and the sources have confirmed that the substance that has
44:46come positive is marijuana.
44:48We'll have to see as to what is the response of Air India into this regard.
44:52Because Air India has maintained that they have not been shared with the results of the test that was conducted
45:00by the authorities, regulators out here in India
45:03and they were awaiting the final result of the samples that were taken.
45:09This is, you know, this is extremely scary, essentially, because these pilots, of course, as part of protocol, as part
45:15of process,
45:16do undergo a breathalyzer test.
45:18But now, if there's also a need to conduct a DOPE test, really, where do you have to, where do
45:25you stop?
45:25How much of regulation can you actually ensure to ensure that these pilots are in a fit condition to fly
45:31the aircraft?
45:32There will be questions of whether, as a result of that, the turbulence had played out on that flight from
45:38Phuket to Delhi,
45:38where the plane essentially dropped about 300 feet.
45:41We're going to continue tracking all the latest that comes in on that investigation.
45:45Thanks, Samik, for joining us with those details.
