Politicians have demanded that Homes England take urgent action to end the long-running stalemate over Farnham’s Woolmead site.
The Farnham Herald this month launched its ‘We Mead Action: Sort Out Woolmead’ campaign, urging decisive steps to address the eyesore on East Street.
This week, both the local Conservative MP and Liberal Democrat campaigners agreed that Homes England must act to deliver homes or a community amenity on the land.
Lib-Dem campaigner Theresa Meredith-Hardy said: "What we need is to start thinking a little bit more creatively, even if it’s just to sort out this issue in the short term.”

00:00I'm outside the Woolmeath site in Farnham, in the heart of our beautiful town, and it is an absolute eyesore.
00:08I have long been against this site being left derelict, along with my fellow councillors and activists at the Lib Dems.
00:14I've even protested outside it.
00:17However, Lib Dem councillors at Farnham, Waverley or Surrey, or any councillors really, have no real powers to intervene and change it.
00:27However, Homes England, who owns this site at the moment, is actually owned by us, the taxpayers.
00:33So why do they think that putting this site up for sale again, when it's already been up for sale and hasn't sold, is going to result in a different outcome?
00:43What we need is to start thinking a little bit more creatively, even if it's just to sort out this issue in the short term.
00:52I myself was at the UCA Freshers' Fair, where I was speaking to students who were travelling in from Yeovil to come here.
01:01The UCA is desperate for student accommodation, and it would really revive this part of the town.
01:06So why isn't something happening somewhere in the system to make what we really need, be it student accommodation or even affordable housing, to make it a reality?
