00:00Thinking about Jackson Dart as I try to go to bed last night, it's what I do, 24-7 about you and about the show.
00:06And they made the announcement that he's the starting quarterback of the New York Giants for the rest of the season.
00:12Yeah.
00:13Now, I don't want to get involved in the semantics of that, but it's interesting to me.
00:19A lot of times when you appoint a successor to the veteran starter, which you only was going to come at some point, that's the way football works.
00:27You know, eventually the new high-level first-round draft pick is going to become the guy, right?
00:32But normally they just say, we're replacing A with B.
00:35They went out of their way to say, essentially, now putting my words into it, no matter what happens outside of injury, no matter how bad some of his performances might be, he's the quarterback the rest of the way.
00:50We're not going to bench him based on malfeasance, based on poor play, which is a bad message to send, I think, to the other 52 guys in the locker room because that means we're not going to hold our quarterback accountable for growing pains and bad play, meaning we're willing to go down on the Titanic with him should he be a totally incompetent, in-over-his-head kid.
01:14And that's the one thing we just don't know yet.
01:16Like, we never know about rookie quarterbacks or first-year quarterbacks.
01:20When the bullets are flying for real and guys are trying to hurt you with bad intentions and the game's flying by your face, crazy, crazy, crazy, you know, not everyone's ready for that year one.
01:31It's the biggest thing in sports that the most dramatic leap from not a talent standpoint, but an ability to commandeer an offense competently standpoint is year one to year two, because every quarterback I've ever spoken to always tells me the game slows down in year two.
01:49You now understand all those things that are flying past you.
01:52But they made a point of saying yesterday, for the rest of the season, and it dawned on me that that might not be the best idea, and I still don't believe it's the best idea to have made the quarterback switch from a team perspective this week.
02:08I would have brought him in next week when you play a quote-unquote easier opponent in the New Orleans Saints.
02:14But I want to walk Giants fans through what's about to happen, and I don't think it's going to be ultimately a fair testament to whether or not Jackson Dart is going to be a really good quarterback or a bust.
02:28But let's just go one, two, three, five games, okay?
02:32So allow this.
02:33So they play the Chargers this week.
02:37Tyrone, do the Chargers have a good defense?
02:39They do.
02:40Do they have a really good defense?
02:42It's really good.
02:43Are they undefeated?
02:44They are.
02:45Okay, so the first game that he has to play against is an undefeated Charger team that, by the way, has a chance this week to take a three-and-a-half game lead in the division over the Kansas City Chiefs, who play the Ravens.
02:59We'll get to that game in just a second, okay?
03:02Then you play the Saints.
03:03We all agree, winnable game for the Giants.
03:05Giants' defense is decent, and if there's a soft landing spot, it's playing against the Saints.
03:10Fair enough?
03:11Very fair.
03:11Okay, but the next three games for Jackson Dart, an unproven rookie quarterback, on a team with only one real offensive weapon, who's now hurt Malik Neighbors, and an average at best running game.
03:24Now the Taylor's out with the dislocated shoulder.
03:26He's run for a few weeks.
03:27Yep, and your best running back.
03:29I know everyone loves Cam Scadabo.
03:31I love him, too.
03:32The dude's a fullback disguised as a running back.
03:34Love him on third and one.
03:36Love him on third and one.
03:38Love him goal line, but that dude just doesn't have the wheels, and I know he led the team in carries last week against the Chiefs, and I know he led them in yards, and he had the one touchdown, and he did the backflip.
03:48And we're like, ah, white guy did a backflip.
03:50Oh, we're so happy.
03:51He's a fan favorite on Ray.
03:52Yeah.
03:52He is.
03:53He's a fan favorite because he's an old-school, dirty, you know, rough and tumble, three yards on a cloud of just running back.
03:58But he is not a premier, high-level, you know, Ferrari like most top running backs are.
04:07Fair enough.
04:07He ain't Jameer Gibbs.
04:08No.
04:09Fair enough?
04:09That's fair.
04:10Okay.
04:11Right.
04:11So run the same page on that.
04:14Saquon.
04:14So after he's got the charges in the Saints, he goes Eagles.
04:19On a short week.
04:20Thursday.
04:20Eagles have a pretty good defense.
04:21Yeah.
04:22Right?
04:22Great defensive line.
04:24We know that.
04:24Yeah.
04:24They get to the quarterback as good as anybody.
04:27Right.
04:27That's going to be tough.
04:28Then they're on the road against the Denver Broncos.
04:32And while the Broncos have had some tough luck losses this year to start off one and two, what do the Broncos have?
04:39They have a pass rush.
04:40They got a pass rush and a badass defense.
04:42Yeah.
04:42And one of, if not the best quarterbacks in football in Patrick Sertain, right?
04:46Yeah.
04:47He's excellent.
04:48Let's say you survive somehow and win or lose, you're at least competent.
04:53Yeah.
04:53Then you get Philly again.
04:55On the road this time.
04:56On the road.
04:57Dude.
04:57So to me, we're going to judge Jack.
05:00I know we're going to do it.
05:01We're going to judge him somewhat unfairly.
05:04We're going to look at him five weeks into his tenure as what I think was going to be a beaten Bruce quarterback.
05:09Who's like, why did I sign up for this crap?
05:13You know, put Russ back in.
05:14And we're then going to have to go back to Joe Shane, the GM, and Brian Dable, the head coach, and go, you told us for the rest of the season.
05:22Are we sticking to it?
05:24Are we sticking to it?
