Two talks by Tony Pearce on Jesus as Son of God, Son of Man.
Part 1 - Son of God
If Jesus is uniquely God made man, you would expect Him to have a unique entrance into the world, to have unique powers to do things which only God could do (miracles) while on earth, to give uniquely inspired teaching from God. And if He were to be put to death, He would not remain dead. All this applies uniquely to Jesus. Find out how
Part 2 - Son of Man
Title most used by Jesus of Himself. Jesus is fully human. Son of Man = human being. Title of humility. He humbled Himself and took on human flesh in order to redeem us. Son of Man = Title of deity. Son of Man more than a man. The ideal Man – Immanuel God with us. Son of Man = fulfilment of prophecy of Daniel 7 / Matthew 24 = equal with God.
When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
Matthew 16:13-18

00:30In the time of sharing the word of God to you, in Jesus' name, Amen.
00:34There are some seats at the front here.
00:38Okay, if you were here last week, I looked at the question of who is Jesus?
00:43Son of God, Son of Man.
00:46Most important question you can ask.
00:50Get the right answer.
00:52You have forgiveness with God, you have peace with God, you have eternal life.
00:56You have a hope for eternity in heaven.
01:00Get the wrong answer.
01:01You got none of that.
01:03You got eternal separation from God.
01:06So it's pretty important you get the question right.
01:08You get the answer to the question right.
01:09One of the things I said last week was that when they were working in the Bank of England looking at genuine banknotes, they didn't spend their time studying the false ones.
01:24They spent their time studying the true ones.
01:27So once they got to know the true ones, then they could understand and know if something was not right.
01:34So, we can spend a lot of time looking at all the anti-Christ forces which are going on in the world today.
01:41And boy, there are some, aren't there?
01:45They're about this guy, Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated last week.
01:49I've never heard of him, actually, but apparently he's pretty big in America.
01:54He is a Christian.
01:56I'm not sure I agree with everything he says, but he is actually going out there speaking to people on values, on family values, things which are right.
02:03And they called him a fascist and a racist, and so they shot him.
02:08And there are people who are glorifying him, saying, oh, it's great that he's been killed because he's some kind of right-wing nut fascist, because he doesn't agree with them.
02:16And I have to say that those people who killed him definitely are of the spirit of anti-Christ.
02:21And that spirit is working in our society to try and take people away from God, put on us all kinds of fake values and all kinds of woke nonsense which is completely anti-God and anti-Christian.
02:33And they're not very tolerant.
02:34They talk about people being fascists.
02:36I mean, fascists are people who impose their views upon you, and you don't have any answer.
02:40These guys really do impose their views upon you, and they don't like you answering them.
02:45They don't like you saying, well, actually, debate it.
02:47And this guy, Charlie Kirk, was going to debate it.
02:49He was going to talk to them about it and say, you know, you give your point, I'll give my point.
02:54And they shut him down.
02:57It's very dangerous, and it's part of this really dangerous thing we have at this present time.
03:02And we have really strong forces of anti-Christ which are rising up in our society and which you've got to resist.
03:11Now, I'm going to say I'm not going to spend all the time looking at the negative, but we need to look at the positive.
03:17And the only way we can defend ourselves against the negative is by looking at what is true, what is the positive, what does God say?
03:24And who is Jesus the Messiah?
03:26Because he's our only defense.
03:27He's the only one who can give us the answer.
03:29So, if you were here last week, we looked at the question of who is Jesus Christ, and we looked particularly at the concept of what it means to be the Son of God.
03:38We looked at one or two scriptures, we'll read one now, from Matthew chapter 16.
03:43When Jesus came to the region of Caesar Philippi, this is verse 13 of Matthew 16.
03:50When Jesus came into the region of Caesar Philippi, he asked the disciples, saying, Who do men say that I am, that I, the Son of Man, am?
03:58So they said, Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, others Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.
04:05He said to them, But who do you say that I am?
04:08Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
04:12Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
04:19And I say to you, You are Peter, on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades, or the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
04:29Okay, just a word about Peter and the rock.
04:32The rock is not on Peter the man, it's on what Peter has just said.
04:36You are the Messiah, the Christ, the Son of the living God.
04:39That's what the church is built on.
04:41Our church is not built on Peter the man.
04:43Peter was a great apostle, he spoke the word.
04:46But our church is built on the faith that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the living God.
04:52If you notice in this passage, the question Jesus asks is, Who do men say that I, the Son of man, am?
04:59And Peter says, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
05:02So you've got two phrases there, Son of man, Son of God.
05:06And Jesus actually uses this phrase, the Son of man, of himself, much more often than he uses the phrase, Son of God.
05:13So we're going to look at that, why he says that, and what it means in our faith.
05:19And the scripture, of course, affirms both, that Jesus is the Son of man, he's also the Son of God.
05:25We looked last week at a passage in 1 John, chapter 2.
05:291 John, chapter 2, where actually the spirit of Antichrist denies the relationship between the Father and the Son.
05:35So it denies that Jesus is related to the Father in the sense of being one with him, that he is the Son of God.
05:43And 1 John, chapter 4, denies that Jesus, the spirit of Antichrist, denies that Jesus has come in the flesh.
05:50In other words, that he is fully man, he's become a man.
05:53So actually the spirit of Antichrist is always going to attack those two things, Jesus is Son of God and Son of man.
05:58That's why we need to understand them.
06:02Son of God, one most basic level means he has the nature of God.
06:07Son of man means he has the nature of a man.
06:10As we'll see, it means actually more than he's just the nature of a man.
06:14But it does mean that.
06:16And a son of God, that means also that he is eternal.
06:20He's pre-existent.
06:22It means he's always been there.
06:23He wasn't created as you and I were created.
06:25He's always existed.
06:26We can't understand that concept, but that is what the Bible tells us about God.
06:31That God has always been there.
06:33We have difficulty understanding that because we think in terms of time and space.
06:38But God has always been there.
06:39He's eternal.
06:40He always is there.
06:41He's there now.
06:42He always will be there.
06:43God is eternal.
06:45And Jesus, being God, is also pre-existent.
06:49He's eternal.
06:50He is there now and he always will be there.
06:51It means that we believe that God is a tri-unity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
06:58Another subject on its own, which we'll look at another time.
07:02But those things we have to grasp.
07:04That is what the implication of Son of God is.
07:06That Jesus is God.
07:07He's equal with the Father.
07:08He's always been there.
07:10He always will be there.
07:11He is the eternal one who became man to dwell amongst us.
07:14He said last week, Josh McDowell made a statement that if God were to appear as a man, you'd expect him to have, one, a unique entrance into the world, two, to have unique powers to do things which only God could do, and three, to give uniquely inspired teaching about God.
07:33And four, if he were put to death, he would not remain dead.
07:36All of those things apply to Jesus.
07:39That when the angel appears to Miriam, to Mary, says, the one who's been born in you will be called the Son of God.
07:46It'll be a supernatural act whereby the Holy Spirit comes into the womb of the virgin Miriam, and she conceives the child in her womb in this unique way, so that Jesus can be both Son of God and Son of Man.
08:00And Jesus is Son of God from the very moment of conception, doesn't become the Messiah.
08:07He doesn't, the Spirit of Messiah doesn't come upon him at some point.
08:10He is Messiah.
08:10He is God from that moment of conception, becoming man right through to the moment of his death and his resurrection.
08:18And he's always God.
08:20He doesn't change.
08:21Have a unique entrance into the world.
08:23He'll have unique powers to do things which only God can do.
08:25As we saw last week, look at some of the miracles, specifically the one of Jesus walking on the water and stilling the storm.
08:32And the disciples' response was to say, truly, you are the Son of God.
08:36Because only God can walk on the water.
08:38Only God can still the storm.
08:39Only God can do the miracles which Jesus did.
08:42So they're a sign that Jesus is Son of God.
08:46Also give uniquely inspired teaching.
08:49Look at the Sermon on the Mount.
08:51The response of the people was that he spoke with authority, not as the scribes.
08:55He spoke with the authority of God because he was God, giving us his word, his teaching on how we should live.
09:01And if he were to be put to death, he would not remain dead.
09:04Interestingly, the centurion who was crucifying Jesus' response of seeing all the things which happened when Jesus was on the cross was to say, truly, this was the Son of God.
09:12And if he was to be put to death, which he was in the physical sense, the Spirit would leave the body.
09:22He says, Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.
09:25The body would be taken down, lifeless, put into a tomb.
09:28And on the third day, the Spirit would come back into the body and Jesus would rise from the dead and appear to the disciples.
09:34Because you can't put God to death.
09:37So Jesus is alive today.
09:39All those things are evidence that Jesus is the Son of God.
09:44Okay, we looked at that last week.
09:45So now we're going to look at the title of Son of Man.
09:49If you read through the Gospels, you'll find that Jesus preferred to use this title for himself.
09:5585 times it's used of Jesus in the New Testament.
09:58And specifically it says the Son of Man.
10:01Not just Son of Man, the Son of Man.
10:03That's important.
10:04We're going to tell you why in a moment.
10:06And there are certain implications of the title Son of Man.
10:10Jesus is fully human.
10:12It means he is a real human being.
10:15He can experience the things which you and I experience.
10:18He is able to experience tiredness, hunger, all of those things, pain.
10:24He can experience those things because he is a real human being.
10:28It's also a title of humility.
10:30Because it means that he humbled himself.
10:32He took upon human flesh in order to redeem us.
10:36He left the glories of heaven to become man to all amongst us.
10:40It is also the title of deity.
10:42And we're going to show that when Jesus uses the phrase the Son of Man,
10:46he is actually using it to affirm the fact that he is also Son of God.
10:52That he is God himself.
10:54And in one particular prophecy which is very important,
10:57which we'll look at in the book of Daniel,
11:01the coming of the Son of Man is a fulfillment of prophecy
11:04which is going to be fulfilled at the second coming of Jesus
11:06and which also points to his deity.
11:08Okay, so let's look at the Son of Man title.
11:13It said on the basic level it is a focus on his humanity.
11:18It's a phrase which is used in the Old Testament as well,
11:21particularly in the book of Ezekiel.
11:23Son of Man, then Adam.
11:26Adam means man in the sense of human being.
11:29So that obviously includes women as well.
11:31So when you hear the word Adam, meaning man in the Bible,
11:36we're not being discriminated against the ladies.
11:38We're just saying that that is a title used in the Bible for humanity.
11:43Adam as the first man, then Adam.
11:47Interestingly, we look in the book of Ezekiel.
11:49Ezekiel in the first chapter has a vision of God.
11:52And he sees this amazing vision.
11:54He sees also a man above the firmament.
12:00And it includes in verse 28 of Ezekiel 1,
12:03it says,
12:04Like the appearance of a rainbow in a cloud in a rainy day,
12:07so is the appearing of the brightness all around it.
12:09This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord.
12:12So when I saw it, I fell on my face,
12:14and I heard a voice of one speaking,
12:16and he said to me,
12:17Son of Man, stand on your feet, and I will speak to you.
12:21So in that sense,
12:22Son of Man is in contrast
12:24to what he's just seen,
12:25which is the glory of God.
12:27So he's seen the glory of God,
12:28he's seen the power of God,
12:29he's seen,
12:30actually has seen a man
12:32raised up in this vision of glory.
12:35Doesn't define who that man is,
12:37but he sees him in some kind of human form.
12:39And then the voice speaks to him as Son of Man.
12:42So he's speaking to him as a human being.
12:44He's in contrast to the great God,
12:47which he's just seen.
12:49So on the most basic level,
12:50you could say that Son of Man
12:51is a title speaking to a human being,
12:55someone in human form.
12:57Now people in error,
12:58and there are many of them,
13:00say, well that means that Jesus was just a man.
13:03I remember before I became a Christian,
13:04actually there was a film which came on the telly
13:06which had the title Son of Man.
13:09And I watched it,
13:09and it showed this person who was supposed to be Jesus,
13:12and he was kind of a conflicted man
13:13who had all sorts of doubts and fears,
13:14and he was kind of not the Jesus,
13:18which you read in the Bible,
13:19it really was just a man.
13:22And although I wasn't a Christian,
13:23I said, this film is wrong.
13:25There's something wrong with this film.
13:26I don't think this is the right Jesus.
13:29I was a bit perplexed when the vicar
13:30whom my parents went to church,
13:32went to,
13:32and he said he thought it was a good film.
13:34I thought, hang about it.
13:36That vicar was later when I became a real Christian,
13:38was to actually sort of try and put me down
13:40and say I was in the wrong position.
13:42So he was the right modernist,
13:43if you like, liberal.
13:44And you get a lot of that in the Christian church today,
13:47just putting Jesus down as a man.
13:50That's what we've got in Islam.
13:51They just say that Jesus was a prophet,
13:53but not Son of God.
13:55It's totally wrong.
13:57And the fact that he was Son of Man
13:58doesn't mean he was not all those other things.
14:01But it does mean he was literally a man.
14:04And as we read in John 1, verse 4, 14,
14:07So John has already defined who the Word is.
14:18He said the Word was with God,
14:19the Word was God,
14:20all things were made through him.
14:22When he speaks about the Word,
14:23he's speaking about God who was there in creation.
14:25He's saying here that the Word became flesh,
14:27the Word became a man,
14:28and we saw him,
14:29he beheld his glory,
14:31and he dwelt amongst us.
14:33So when we saw Jesus,
14:34we saw a man,
14:35but we also saw a man who embodied the glory of God.
14:41And as in 1 John, verse 4,
14:44it says,
14:45Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ
14:47has come in the flesh is of God.
14:49Every spirit that does not confess
14:50that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God.
14:53This is the spirit of the Antichrist,
14:55which you heard is coming,
14:57and is now already in the world.
15:00So a sign of the Spirit of God
15:02is it's going to confess that Jesus has come in the flesh,
15:04that he is literally a man,
15:05but he is also Son of God with us.
15:09If you don't confess that,
15:10you're not of God.
15:12And he says that the spirit of Antichrist
15:14is already in the world,
15:16and it's been manifested in many ways
15:18in the times to come.
15:20If you know anything about history,
15:21you know that there was a group of people
15:23who emerged in the first century
15:24after the beginning of Christianity
15:26called the Gnostics.
15:28They wrote various Gospels,
15:30which were discovered not so long ago,
15:33and they gave their philosophy.
15:35When you looked into their philosophy,
15:36it was heretical.
15:37It wasn't true.
15:38It was the kind of thing
15:39one John was actually warning you against.
15:41One of the things they said
15:42was that when Jesus appeared as a man,
15:45sometimes you could touch him
15:46and you felt him really there.
15:48Other times your hand went straight through him
15:50as though he was not really there.
15:52One of the other Gospels says
15:53that Jesus didn't die on the cross,
15:55literally,
15:56but somebody who was like him
15:58was put on the cross,
15:59and the real Jesus was in the spirit
16:00laughing at the one dying on the cross.
16:04Totally heretical,
16:05totally wrong teaching.
16:07And what it's denying
16:07is that Jesus Christ came in the flesh.
16:10Do you have any other group of people
16:11who took on that idea?
16:13The Muslims.
16:14It goes straight into the Koran,
16:16which tells me one of the origins of Islam
16:18actually is not from Muhammad
16:20going into a cave
16:21and getting a message from God.
16:22It's actually a combination
16:23of all kinds of false teachings
16:25which were put together
16:26much later than Muhammad
16:27and is basically
16:30of the spirit of Antichrist.
16:32We also have it in New Age ideas.
16:34The New Age idea is that
16:35the spirit of Jesus,
16:37the spirit of Christ,
16:38the Christ spirit,
16:40came upon a man called Jesus
16:41at his baptism,
16:43anointed him for his ministry,
16:44and then when he died on the cross
16:46it left him.
16:47And it could come on other people
16:49at other times.
16:50So you have the Hindu idea
16:51of avatars,
16:52which is that you can have
16:53a Messiah for your time
16:55and a Messiah for other times.
16:57And some of the New Ages
16:58are looking for a Messiah
16:59to come to our time
17:00that the spirit of Christ
17:01will come upon him
17:01and he'll be the Christ
17:02who will be the one
17:04who will bring the world to rights.
17:07Again, that's false teaching.
17:08It's false Christ,
17:09false prophets
17:09which Jesus warned about.
17:11The spirit of Christ,
17:13the spirit of Messiah,
17:14was upon Jesus
17:15from the moment of his conception
17:17right through to his death
17:18on the cross
17:19when he surrendered his spirit
17:20to the Father
17:22and then the spirit
17:24came back into the body
17:25on the third day
17:26and he rose again from the dead.
17:29It's false teaching
17:30to say that
17:30things which I've just told you
17:32from the New Age.
17:35So we have to understand
17:36first of all
17:36that Jesus was fully man
17:37and God came,
17:40he was God from the beginning
17:41but he was literally a man,
17:44a man who appeared
17:45in that form
17:46and who lived amongst us.
17:48He also,
17:52the Son of Man
17:53is a title of humility.
17:55So the second person
17:56of the Trinity,
17:57that's God,
17:58the Son,
17:59Jesus,
18:00Yeshua,
18:01the Messiah,
18:02who is eternal in nature.
18:04He left heaven's glory
18:06and took on human flesh
18:07becoming the Son of Man.
18:10To be born in the way
18:11that we know he was born
18:12and to be despised
18:14and rejected
18:14by mankind.
18:16Have the prophecy
18:17of Isaiah chapter 53
18:18which prophesies
18:19the life,
18:21death,
18:22resurrection of Jesus
18:23some 700 years
18:24before it happened
18:25in the Old Testament.
18:27Isaiah 53 verse 2
18:28it says,
18:29for he shall grow up
18:29before him
18:30as a tender plant
18:31out of a root
18:32out of dry ground.
18:34He has no formal comeliness
18:35when we see him
18:37there is no beauty
18:37that we should desire him.
18:39He is despised
18:40and rejected by men
18:41a man of sorrows
18:42and acquainted with grief
18:43and we hid
18:44as it were
18:44our faces from him.
18:46He was despised
18:47and we did not esteem him.
18:49When he speaks about him
18:50growing up
18:51as a tender plant
18:52as a root
18:53out of dry ground
18:53that means he came
18:55in some human form.
18:57He had no formal comeliness
18:59when we see him
18:59there is no beauty
19:00that we should desire him.
19:02It doesn't mean
19:03that Jesus was ugly
19:03it just means
19:04that there was nothing special
19:05about his appearance
19:06when he appeared
19:07in human form.
19:09When he walked around
19:10Nazareth
19:11growing up as a baby
19:12and as a child
19:14he looked like
19:14any other child.
19:16When he was doing
19:16his ministry
19:17in Nazareth
19:18in Galilee
19:19in Jerusalem
19:19he looked like
19:20any other child
19:22any other person.
19:23He looked like
19:24a normal human being.
19:25There was nothing special
19:26about him
19:26that would make you
19:27desire him
19:28from his appearance.
19:30You'd think if God
19:30would appear to his man
19:31he would appear
19:32as something spectacular
19:33and glorious.
19:35Well he did on one occasion
19:36at the bound
19:37of transfiguration.
19:39But he did appear
19:39with his glory
19:40shining forth.
19:41But imagine
19:42if he'd been
19:42walking around
19:43Nazareth
19:43walking around
19:44Jerusalem
19:45looking like that.
19:46It would have been
19:47a bit hard
19:47for people to
19:48despise and reject him.
19:50They'd have been
19:50a bit in fear of him.
19:52So he took on
19:53human form
19:53for a specific purpose
19:54in order that he might be
19:56the suffering servant
19:57of Isaiah
19:57then to lay down
19:59his life as a sacrifice
20:00for our sins
20:00and to rise again
20:02from the dead.
20:04And we see examples
20:05of his humility
20:06in the Gospels.
20:07Luke chapter 9
20:08it says
20:08the Son of Man
20:09has no place
20:10to lay his head.
20:11Foxes have
20:13their holes
20:13birds of the air
20:15have nests
20:16but the Son of Man
20:16has nowhere
20:17to lay his head.
20:20Otherwise he didn't
20:20have a house
20:21didn't have a room.
20:23Anybody here
20:24not got a house
20:24or a room?
20:25We've all got
20:27somewhere to live
20:27haven't we?
20:28You give thanks for that.
20:29Well Jesus didn't have
20:29any property
20:30to live in.
20:31Think of that.
20:32He had an itinerant ministry
20:33people looked after him
20:35but he didn't have
20:36a place of his own
20:38and yet he owned
20:40the whole world.
20:43That was temporary
20:43it was part of his
20:44sacrifice for us.
20:46And
20:46also we read
20:49that he ate
20:49and drink
20:49with sinners.
20:51Matthew chapter 11
20:53verse 16
20:56speaks to
21:05about John the Baptist.
21:08He says
21:08John came neither
21:09eating nor drinking
21:09and they say
21:10he has a demon.
21:12The Son of Man
21:13came eating and drinking
21:14and they say
21:14look
21:15a glutton
21:16a winebibber
21:17a friend of
21:18tax collectors
21:18and sinners
21:19but wisdom
21:20is justified
21:21by her children.
21:24Jesus ate
21:25and drank
21:25with sinners.
21:27People found
21:27fault with him.
21:28Previous verses
21:29they said
21:29he's either too
21:30gloomy
21:32like John the Baptist
21:33or he's too cheerful.
21:35They played the flute
21:35and you wouldn't dance
21:36or he's too gloomy
21:38they mourn for you
21:39and you didn't lament.
21:41People often
21:41find fault
21:42with preachers
21:42that are either
21:43too boring
21:44or too long
21:45or too short
21:45or they're too
21:46excitable
21:47or they're not
21:48excitable enough.
21:49Well you can find
21:50fault with me
21:51but I'm trying
21:51to tell you
21:52the word of God
21:52so please
21:53bear with me.
21:55But Jesus
21:55and John
21:56also had their
21:57critics
21:58and they said
22:00of Jesus
22:00he's a winebibber
22:01a friend of tax collectors
22:02and sinners
22:03in other words
22:03he's mixing
22:04with the wrong
22:05kind of people
22:05and
22:07Jesus did do that.
22:10He did go to
22:11dinner with people
22:12he met with
22:13sinners
22:14and prostitutes
22:16and tax collectors
22:17people
22:18who were outcasts
22:19and
22:21that was the purpose
22:23which he came for
22:23I'm going to say
22:25later on
22:25those who have well
22:26have no need of a physician
22:27but those who are sick
22:29otherwise I haven't come
22:30to minister to the sick
22:31I've come to minister
22:31to the healthy
22:33I've come to minister
22:33to the sick.
22:36He's also going to imply
22:36that everybody's sick
22:37so we all need Jesus
22:38but he came
22:40and he was a friend
22:41of sinners and outcasts
22:42came and talked
22:43with ordinary people
22:44because he wanted
22:45to get alongside them
22:46and he wanted to get
22:47alongside you and me
22:48because he loves you and me
22:49and he sees value
22:50in every human being
22:51on the face of the earth
22:52so of course
22:54he mixed with sinners
22:55and holy people
22:56thought that was
22:57not the right thing
22:58to do
22:58and yet
23:00that was the purpose
23:01which he came to
23:02in order to save
23:03the lost
23:04and he also came
23:08knowing that this
23:08would bring him opposition
23:09and it would bring him
23:11ultimately death
23:12spoke about the son of man
23:19suffering
23:19being about to suffer
23:20at their hands
23:21Jesus knew that because
23:25of human opposition
23:26and because of demonic opposition
23:28he would face opposition
23:31while he was in the earth
23:32and that opposition
23:33would lead to his death
23:34agonizing death
23:36on the cross
23:37someone said
23:39if God came and lived
23:40on the earth
23:40they'd throw stones
23:41through his windows
23:42and I guess
23:44that's what it is
23:45because the world
23:45is against God
23:46and when Jesus comes
23:48as God
23:48he's going to place
23:49this opposition
23:49so part of his
23:50coming to the earth
23:52his humility
23:53his coming from
23:54the realms of glory
23:54to this earth
23:56of course
23:56that he would
23:57face the opposition
23:58that he did face
24:00on the earth
24:01and because of this
24:04Jesus knew
24:04what was in human beings
24:05sometimes he's
24:08disappointed with
24:10the disciples
24:10one point he said
24:11to the most faithless
24:12and perverse generation
24:13how long shall I be with you
24:15how long shall I bear with you
24:17think what it was like
24:19for Jesus
24:19who'd come from
24:20the realms of glory
24:20to live on this
24:21sin-cursed earth
24:22to live with people
24:24who were sinners
24:25and failed him
24:26opposed him
24:28John 2
24:30he said
24:30Jesus did not
24:31commit himself
24:32to men
24:33because he knew
24:34what was in them
24:34he had no need
24:35that anyone
24:36should testify
24:36of man
24:37because he knew
24:37what was in man
24:38and as Jesus
24:40walked about the earth
24:41he knew that he was
24:41in enemy territory
24:43if you like
24:43he knew that he
24:44couldn't trust
24:45the people
24:45even sometimes
24:47his own disciples
24:48to do what was right
24:48and that was
24:51part of the cost
24:52for Jesus
24:52coming from the
24:53glories of heaven
24:54where everything
24:55was praising God
24:56where everyone
24:56was on his side
24:58where everyone
24:59was one
25:00in worship
25:01coming to the earth
25:02where he would face
25:03sinful human beings
25:05even people like
25:06you and me
25:07and I guess we
25:08disappoint Jesus
25:09as well don't we
25:10and there are times
25:11when he looks at us
25:12and he says
25:12oh how can I
25:14let my people
25:15be doing those things
25:15and he's calling us
25:17to repent
25:18and put it right
25:19but his love
25:21and his patience
25:21means that he bears
25:22with us
25:22and he continues
25:23with us
25:23and he's willing
25:24to make that great sacrifice
25:25to come
25:26and to dwell amongst us
25:28and Paul gives us
25:29some idea of this
25:30in Philippians chapter 2
25:31the great passage
25:32which speaks about
25:33the humility of Jesus
25:34and what it cost him
25:35to come from the glories
25:35of heaven
25:36to the earth
25:37Philippians 2 verse 6
25:40where it says
25:41let this mind be in you
25:42which is also in Christ Jesus
25:43who being in the form of God
25:44did not consider it robbery
25:46to be equal with God
25:47but made himself
25:48of no reputation
25:49taking the form
25:50of a bond servant
25:51and coming in the likeness
25:52of men
25:53and being found
25:54in appearance
25:54as a man
25:55he humbled himself
25:56and became obedient
25:57to the point of death
25:59even the death
25:59of the cross
26:00therefore God
26:01has highly exalted him
26:02and given him the name
26:03which is above every name
26:04that at the name of Jesus
26:06every knee
26:07should bow
26:07and of those in heaven
26:10and of those on earth
26:11and of those under the earth
26:12and that every tongue
26:13should confess
26:14that Jesus Christ
26:15is Lord
26:15to the glory of God
26:16the Father
26:18if you understand
26:20this passage
26:21it clearly means
26:22that Jesus and God
26:23are equal
26:23he came in the form
26:25of God
26:26the Greek word
26:27which is used
26:28for in the form
26:29there is morphe
26:29which means
26:31the essential form
26:32which never changes
26:33so he's not going to change
26:36in that nature
26:36of being in the form
26:38of God
26:38that's going to be there
26:39from the beginning
26:40from the moment
26:41of conception
26:41right through
26:42to the moment
26:43of his departure
26:44and ascension
26:45into heaven
26:46he will be
26:47in the form of God
26:48a central form
26:50which never changes
26:51because of that
26:52he didn't consider it
26:53robbery to be equal
26:54with God
26:54otherwise he wasn't
26:56committing some kind
26:57of offence
26:57when he said
26:57I'm equal with God
26:58he was not blaspheming
27:01or claiming something
27:01he didn't have any right
27:03to say
27:04which was what
27:05the opposition
27:06actually said to him
27:07you know
27:07you can't say
27:08you're equal with God
27:09it's blasphemy
27:10but Jesus could say
27:12it because it was the truth
27:13and if he didn't say it
27:14he'd be actually
27:15saying a lie
27:15because he is equal
27:17with God
27:17he is God
27:18if you look at this passage
27:20in Philippians
27:21he also says
27:22he comes in the form
27:23of man
27:24that's another word
27:26in Greek
27:26which is schema
27:27and the word schema
27:29actually implies
27:30an outward form
27:31which does change
27:32from time to time
27:33according to circumstances
27:34so Jesus
27:37is the form of God
27:38doesn't change
27:38but Jesus
27:39in the form of man
27:40can change
27:41and his appearance
27:43does change
27:43as I said
27:45as he travelled
27:45around Galilee
27:46and Jerusalem
27:47he looks like
27:49any other man
27:49he has no beauty
27:52that we should desire
27:53he doesn't look different
27:54from any other human being
27:55but that appearance
27:57did change
27:58at the time
27:59of the transfiguration
28:01he appeared
28:02with his face
28:04shining like the sun
28:04and his clothes
28:05dazzling white
28:06and now he appears
28:09in heaven
28:09in glory
28:10read that
28:11in John chapter 1
28:12so that's his
28:14eternal form
28:15but his human form
28:17can change
28:18and it's interesting
28:20that you read
28:20the resurrection accounts
28:21when Jesus appeared
28:22in his resurrected body
28:23people on the road
28:25to Emmaus
28:26didn't recognise him
28:27Mary Magdalene
28:28didn't recognise him
28:29at first
28:29until he spoke to her
28:30so there was something
28:32slightly different
28:32in the form
28:33in which he appeared
28:34after the resurrection
28:36so that scheme
28:38that form
28:39coming in the form
28:40of a man
28:40can change
28:41and did change
28:42coming in the form
28:43of God
28:44doesn't change
28:45you get that point
28:46ok let's move on
28:50so those are the
28:50titles of
28:51his humility
28:52third point
28:54is that
28:54the son of man
28:55title
28:55enforces Jesus
28:57status
28:58as a divine person
28:59going back
29:01to that passage
29:02I read to you
29:02from Ezekiel
29:03Ezekiel may have been
29:05a son of man
29:06but Jesus
29:08is the son of man
29:09and you read
29:10when you look
29:11in the New Testament
29:12you find that
29:12it's always
29:13the son of man
29:14he's not
29:14a son of man
29:15he finds himself
29:17as the son of man
29:18and as such
29:19the son of man
29:20means that he is
29:21the supreme example
29:22of all that God
29:23intended humanity
29:25to be
29:25the embodiment
29:27of truth and grace
29:28what human beings
29:29should have been
29:30before the fall
29:31in communication
29:33with God
29:34in total
29:36obedience
29:37and
29:37submission
29:39to God
29:40while he
29:42here on the earth
29:43and that was
29:44what Jesus was
29:45he was totally
29:46in obedience
29:46and submission
29:47to God
29:47he was totally
29:48in communication
29:49with God
29:50all the time
29:50that he was here
29:51on the earth
29:52and he was
29:54the supreme example
29:55of all that
29:56God intended
29:57the human race
29:58to be
29:58he was the
29:59embodiment
30:00of God's truth
30:00God's truth
30:01and a couple
30:03of scriptures
30:04will tell you
30:04about this
30:05one we've already
30:05read
30:06the word became
30:06flesh
30:07John chapter 1
30:08the word became
30:09flesh and dwelt
30:10amongst us
30:10we beheld his glory
30:11the glory as of
30:12the only begotten
30:12of the father
30:13full of grace
30:14and truth
30:15Colossians chapter 2
30:19in him dwells
30:19all the fullness
30:20of the Godhead
30:21in bodily form
30:22that's
30:24an absolutely
30:24clear statement
30:25it means that
30:26when Jesus
30:26appeared in bodily
30:27form
30:27all the fullness
30:28of God
30:29was in him
30:30he was fully
30:32God
30:32all the time
30:33that he was
30:33appearing
30:33in human
30:34form
30:35we looked
30:37last week
30:37at the
30:38passage in
30:39Mark's gospel
30:39where it says
30:40the son of man
30:40has power
30:41on earth
30:41to forgive
30:42sins
30:42remember that
30:44story where
30:45they bring
30:46a paralytic
30:46into Jesus
30:48and he says
30:49to the
30:50paralytic
30:50man
30:51son your
30:52sins
30:53are forgiven
30:54and the
30:55scribes
30:56who were
30:56sitting there
30:57said in their
30:58hearts
30:58why does this
30:58man speak
30:59blasphemies
30:59who can
31:00forgive
31:00sins
31:01but God
31:01alone
31:01they're
31:03correcting
31:03that
31:03who can
31:04forgive
31:04sins
31:04but God
31:05alone
31:05only God
31:06can forgive
31:07sins
31:07so Jesus
31:07says your
31:08sins have
31:08forgiven you
31:09either he's
31:12telling the
31:12truth or he's
31:13ascribing to
31:14himself something
31:14which is
31:15untrue
31:16so Jesus
31:19perceived in his
31:19spirit their
31:20reason thus within
31:20themselves and he
31:21said to them why do
31:22you reason about
31:22these things in
31:23your hearts
31:23which is easier to
31:25say to the
31:25paralytic your
31:26sins have forgiven
31:27you or to
31:28say arise and take
31:29up your bed and
31:29walk
31:30so which is the
31:32easier thing to
31:32say to say not
31:34to do to say
31:35which one's the
31:36easier thing to
31:36say
31:37the easier thing to
31:39say is your sins
31:40have forgiven you
31:40because if your sins
31:42are not forgiven you
31:43you don't know any
31:43of the difference do
31:44you the harder
31:46thing to say is to
31:47the paralytic rise up
31:48and walk if he
31:50doesn't rise up and
31:51walk then you know
31:52that the other one
31:53is not true either
31:54okay so Jesus says
31:57the harder thing to
31:58the paralytic says
31:58rise up and walk
31:59so he says that
32:01you may know that
32:02the son of man has
32:02power on earth to
32:03forgive sins he
32:04said to the
32:04paralytic I say to
32:06you take up your
32:06bed go to your
32:07house immediately he
32:09rose took up his
32:10bed and went out in
32:11the presence of
32:11them all so that
32:12all were amazed and
32:13glorified God saying
32:14we never saw anything
32:15like this so you
32:18see the second thing
32:19there the harder
32:20thing to say rise up
32:21and walk confirms the
32:22first thing your sins
32:24are forgiven you if
32:25your sins are not
32:26forgiven you then the
32:27paralytic is going to
32:28lie there on the
32:29ground so Jesus
32:31demonstrates clearly
32:32that he is has the
32:34power of God to
32:36forgive sins notice
32:38he says the son of
32:39man has the power of
32:40God to forgive sins
32:41so he's using there
32:43the son of man title
32:44but he's using it in
32:45a way which affirms
32:46his divinity and if
32:48you look through many
32:49of the use of the
32:50word son of man by
32:52the Lord Jesus is
32:52actually somehow
32:53affirming his
32:54divinity says he's the
32:56Lord of the Sabbath
32:56according to Judaism
32:59God gave the Sabbath
33:00so if he's the Lord
33:00of the Sabbath he's
33:01God who gave the
33:02Sabbath he came to
33:04save lives not to
33:06destroy them so that
33:07a man did not come
33:08to destroy men's
33:08lives but to save
33:09them how can he
33:11save them only if
33:12he has the power of
33:13God to save them
33:14and in John chapter
33:195 verse 27 we
33:23read I say to you
33:25the hour is now
33:25coming now is when
33:27the dead will hear
33:28the voice of the
33:28son of God those
33:30who hear will live
33:31the father has life
33:33in himself so he
33:37has granted the
33:38son to have life in
33:39himself he's given
33:41him authority to
33:42execute judgment
33:43because he is the
33:44son of man do not
33:46marvel at this for
33:47the hour is coming
33:47in which all who are
33:48in the graves will
33:49hear his voice come
33:50forth those who've
33:51done good to the
33:52resurrection of life
33:53those who've done
33:54evil to the
33:54resurrection of
33:55damnation can you
33:57see in that
33:58scripture it uses the
33:59two phrases the son
34:00of God and the son
34:01of man first of all
34:02the dead are going to
34:03hear the voice of the
34:04son of God and those
34:05who hear will live
34:06the words are going
34:07to be a general
34:08resurrection and
34:09there will be a
34:10general resurrection of
34:11both the wicked and
34:12the saved the wicked
34:14will go to the wrong
34:14place the hell the
34:16righteous will go to
34:17the right place but
34:19there will be a
34:19general resurrection and
34:20they will hear the
34:21voice of the son of
34:22God so everyone's
34:23going to hear the
34:23voice of the son of
34:24God and live that
34:26point there'll be no
34:27more atheists but he
34:31says that he has the
34:33father has given the
34:34son the right to
34:35execute judgment because
34:37he is the son of man
34:38okay so you've got the
34:40two phrases there son of
34:41God son of man and he
34:42executed judgment which
34:44only God can do in his
34:45role as the son of man
34:47so why has he got the
34:49right to do that he's
34:51got the right to do
34:51that because he has
34:52lived as a man on the
34:53earth he's faced all the
34:55temptations all the
34:56difficulties which we
34:57faced and overcome them
34:58and he has laid down his
34:59life as a sacrifice for
35:01the sin of the world and
35:01risen from the dead
35:02therefore he has the
35:04right now to judge
35:04people on the basis of
35:07truth of the word of
35:09God and to cause those
35:11who are saved to go to
35:13the right place those who
35:15are not saved to go to
35:15the wrong place that's
35:17why we have to believe on
35:18the Lord Jesus Christ and
35:19he's the only one who
35:20can open up the door of
35:20heaven to us so this
35:23this scripture particularly
35:24this one in John is the
35:26absolute proof that the
35:28son of man title is equal
35:30to the son of God it's not
35:32saying he's lesser he's
35:33just some kind of glorified
35:35human being it's saying
35:36that the son of man is
35:38also the same person as
35:40the son of God other
35:41words Jesus is both son of
35:42man and son of God and
35:44they're both divine titles
35:45the son of man one just
35:48emphasizes his humanity
35:49but it doesn't take away
35:51from his divinity
35:52okay the final one let's
35:55have a look at this one
35:56the son of man is actually
35:57the fulfillment of prophecy
36:00specifically the fulfillment
36:02of the prophecy of Daniel
36:03chapter 9 verse 13 to 14
36:06very interesting scripture
36:09someday perhaps we'll do a
36:10longer study on this
36:12particular passage and its
36:13application in the New
36:15Testament but in the
36:17context of the scripture
36:19I'm just going to read to
36:20you Daniel has been given
36:21a vision a revelation of
36:23coming world empires
36:25has given empires as
36:27beasts rising up out of
36:29the sea interpreted as
36:31coming empires from the
36:32time of Daniel Babylon
36:34Greece Persia and Rome
36:36all these empires are going
36:38to rise and oppress Israel
36:40and then he sees a vision of
36:41the Lord seated in heaven
36:43then he sees the final one
36:47the beast or the
36:47antichrist being thrown
36:48into the lake of fire
36:49then we have the son of
36:52man prophecy and in the
36:54case of it's set against
36:56this speaking about human
36:58kingdoms human empires
37:01which are going to rise
37:02and fall away now he's
37:04talking about an empire
37:04which is going to rise and
37:06not fall away which will be
37:08an eternal empire the
37:09empire or the kingdom of our
37:12God so let's read then
37:14Daniel chapter 9 chapter 7
37:15verse 13 Daniel 7 I was
37:19watching in the night
37:19visions and behold one
37:20like the son of man coming
37:22with the clouds of heaven he
37:23came to the ancient of
37:24days and they brought him
37:25near before him then to him
37:27was given dominion and
37:28glory and the kingdom that
37:30all peoples nations and
37:31kingdoms should serve him
37:32his dominion is an
37:34everlasting dominion which
37:35will not pass away his
37:36kingdom the one which
37:38will not be destroyed so he
37:40sees one like the son of
37:42man the son of man again
37:44the glorified man
37:46interesting that passage in
37:49Ezekiel if you read a few
37:50verses before it you see
37:52that Ezekiel also sees a man
37:54in heaven a glorified man in
37:55heaven
37:56the same one I would say as
38:01Daniel sees here the son of
38:02man coming with the clouds of
38:03heaven
38:04says he's coming with the
38:06clouds of heaven
38:07clouds of heaven can be
38:11interpreted on two different
38:12levels one is the shekinah
38:13the glory of God the glory of
38:15God which is filled the
38:17temple in the dedication of
38:19the temple in Solomon's time
38:20which symbol which is the sign
38:23that the glory of God is
38:24present where this one is
38:26was there so the shekinah only
38:28is a sign of the dwelling of
38:30God in when it appears on
38:32earth it's the dwelling of God
38:34on earth with humans so the
38:36shekinah the glory of God
38:38when Jesus comes he's coming
38:39with the glory of God with all
38:41the power of God at his
38:41disposal the cloud can also be
38:44the cloud of witnesses which
38:45is the angelic hosts and also
38:48those who've been redeemed and
38:50are coming back with Jesus in
38:53glorified bodies redeemed of
38:55ages coming with the Lord Jesus
38:56he comes before the ancient of
38:59days that's God so he is God but
39:02he comes bringing all this
39:04before God as he comes to the
39:06earth for the second time and
39:09then he's given dominion that
39:11all nations should serve him he
39:13says here is a dominion which
39:14will not pass away the kingdoms
39:18which Daniel has been looking
39:19at in the previous verses are all
39:20kingdoms which have passed away
39:22there's no more Babylonian
39:24empire no more Greek empire no
39:26more Roman empire come and
39:28they've gone this kingdom is
39:30going to last forever and only a
39:33kingdom which is built by God
39:34can last forever all human
39:36kingdoms are going to pass away
39:37British Empire has passed away
39:40European Union will pass away
39:42the kingdoms of this world will
39:44pass away and become the kingdom
39:45of our God and our first Christ
39:46his Messiah and he shall reign
39:48forever and ever only the kingdom
39:51of God can last forever so only one
39:53who is head of the kingdom of God
39:55who is the son of man can be an
39:58eternal person other words be God
40:00only God can have such a kingdom
40:02and clearly the one who appears in
40:06this form is not a man in the human
40:10sense he is the son of man he's
40:13also the divine person who is
40:15Yeshua Jesus the Messiah who came to
40:17earth and brought amongst us
40:18crucified risen from the dead
40:21ascended to heaven and is coming
40:22again in power and glory and
40:25significantly Jesus quotes this
40:27particular verse from Daniel on two
40:29occasions in the New Testament in
40:33Matthew 24 verse 20 when it says
40:37the sign of the son of man will
40:38appear in heaven then all the tribes
40:40of the earth will mourn and they
40:41will see the son of man coming on the
40:43clouds of heaven with power and great
40:45glory in the context of Matthew 24
40:48this comes at the end of the
40:49tribulation period and it's the final
40:52thing which happens when Jesus
40:53returns in power and great glory
40:55son of man coming in power and
40:59coming on the clouds of heaven
41:00fulfilling the prophecy of Daniel
41:02chapter 7 verse 13 and Jesus
41:08applies this particular prophecy to
41:10himself and says I'm going to be the
41:11one who's going to do this and you're
41:13going to see this happen not you
41:15disciples now because you're going to
41:16be dead long before this happens but
41:18you will be coming back with me
41:19because I'm coming with the saints but
41:22you will see this happen sometime in
41:24the future at the time of my second
41:25coming it's going to happen Jesus is
41:28going to come again we do believe that
41:30in this church we believe that there
41:32will be a second coming of Jesus which
41:33will happen literally as the first
41:35coming happened and it will happen at
41:38sometime in the future I believe not in
41:41the two not too distant future because
41:43we see all the signs of the second
41:44coming happening now but we see that
41:47Jesus is going to appear and he's going
41:50to come on the clouds of heaven with
41:52power and great glory second time he
41:55says this is interesting you go to
41:57Matthew chapter 26 verse 65 in the
42:01context of the trial before the San
42:03Hedron when the high priest is trying
42:06to find some detail by which he can have
42:09Jesus put to death he has various false
42:12witnesses come before him and they give
42:14all kinds of contradictory things which
42:16Jesus doesn't even bother to answer and
42:19Jesus is just standing there silent not
42:21answering the false charges because
42:23they're not even worth considering and
42:26the high priest then puts him under oath
42:28and he says I adjure you I put you under
42:31oath by the living God and he says those
42:33words he has to answer he's saying I'm
42:36now putting you in a position where you
42:37must answer this question you can't just
42:40avoid it I put you under oath by the
42:45living God tell us if you are the Christ
42:46the Messiah the Son of God and he uses
42:50the phrase there the Son of God Jesus
42:53said to him it is as you said nevertheless
42:55I say to you hereafter you will see the
42:57Son of Man sitting at the right hand of
42:59power coming on the clouds of heaven then
43:03the high priest tore his clothes saying he
43:05has spoken blasphemy what further need do
43:07we have of witnesses look now you've heard
43:09his blasphemy he is deserving of death
43:11can you see there you've got the two
43:14phrases Son of God and Son of Man
43:16high priest says are you the Son of God
43:18are you the Messiah Jesus says you will
43:22see the Son of Man sitting at the right
43:24hand of Father so he's not saying the
43:27Son of Man is a different person from
43:28the Son of God he's saying yeah I am the
43:30Son of God actually but I'm giving you
43:32the title now which Daniel gave me the
43:34Son of Man and you're going to see me
43:36sitting at the right hand of the Father
43:38of the power coming on the clouds of
43:41heaven so at some point in the future
43:44this is going to place place again those
43:47people weren't going to see it because
43:48they were long dead whether they see it
43:51in the Spirit after they've died and have
43:53a think oh no we got that wrong I don't
43:55know but he's saying here that this is
43:57going to happen it's going to happen
43:58literally you're going to see me coming
44:01on the clouds of heaven sitting at the
44:04right hand of power and the high priest
44:08send tears his clothes he understands
44:09exactly what he's saying Jesus is
44:12saying I'm the one who Daniel spoke
44:13about I'm the Son of Man now you see
44:17me in humility you see me standing
44:18before you your victim if you like you're
44:21actually just about to put me on the
44:23cross I'm going to suffer the most
44:24horrendous things but I'm all this time
44:27I'm still the Son of God I'm the Son of
44:29Man from heaven so watch out what you're
44:33doing I didn't of course but you're
44:37going to see this happen and the high
44:39priest says he's spoken blasphemy we
44:41don't need any more witnesses he's
44:43condemned himself he's tried this
44:45prophecy of Daniel to himself this
44:48prophecy of Daniel is clearly speaking
44:49about one who is equal with God and it
44:54can't be this man standing before us so
44:57it's blasphemy so he's deserving of death
44:58he gets the point Jesus is not only
45:01claiming to be the Messiah but also the
45:03Son of Man who is clearly not an ordinary
45:06man but God in some human some visible
45:10human form so he handed him over to
45:13Pontius Pilate they actually didn't have
45:16the right to put him to death so he had
45:17to put up another trial with another
45:19incident before Pontius Pilate so he was
45:21inspiring against Rome and all that
45:23stuff because only the Romans could put
45:26him to death and the Romans had to put
45:28him to death because they had to use the
45:30form of execution which is crucifixion
45:32which would fulfill another prophecy in
45:34the book of Psalms chapter 22 which
45:36would describe exactly a crucifixion
45:39taking place with someone having the
45:40hand his hands and his feet pierced has
45:44happened with crucifixion has happened to
45:46the Lord Jesus so Jesus is going to
45:48fulfill all these prophecies prophecy of
45:50Isaiah 53 and the rejection of Jesus
45:55which was painful which was also in one
46:00sense the devil rejecting God but also
46:03was God actually overruling it in order
46:06that his word should be fulfilled and
46:07that Jesus should be the sacrifice for
46:09the sin of the world try and work that
46:11one out for yourselves it's difficult but
46:14it is true it is also the victory
46:20because by going to the cross by taking
46:23the price of our sins he was going to
46:25defeat sin and death and live forever
46:27that we might also live forever and be
46:31saved through faith in Jesus the
46:33Messiah as I said last week if he the
46:37Messiah if God was going to be put to
46:38death in the person of Jesus the
46:39Messiah he would have to rise from the
46:41dead the last words of Jesus on the
46:45cross according to Luke's gospel was
46:47father into your hands I commend my
46:48spirit then he gave up the ghost and
46:51died other words his spirit left his
46:54body the body was dead the spirit was
46:58alive a little bit of debate where the
47:02spirit went but for three days the body
47:06lay in the grave and on the third day
47:08the spirit came back into the body of
47:10Jesus and he rose from the dead and
47:13appeared in bodily form to the disciples
47:16to many people Paul says actually to over
47:19500 people at once at one point so Jesus
47:22appeared in bodily form after his
47:24resurrection he rose from the dead and
47:27as it says in Corinthians Messiah died
47:31for our sins was buried and rose again on
47:33the third day fulfillment of Bible prophecy
47:36in order that we might be redeemed and
47:39because of this we can be saved so if you
47:42look forward this through this verse from
47:44Daniel actually is crucial in
47:46understanding why Jesus went to the cross
47:49and also why he rose from the dead and
47:51why he will come again the second time
47:53and above all why son of man title is
47:57also a title for son of God Jesus is
48:00fully God he's fully man he's as son of
48:04God son of man he's deserving of both
48:07titles son of man does highlight his
48:10humanity also his humility reminds us of
48:15what he's left behind in order to become
48:16man in order to redeem us which tells us
48:19something about his love for you and
48:20me God's love for you and me and what
48:24you and I matter to God because if we
48:28didn't matter then he'd just leave us in
48:31the hands of the devil and be lost for
48:34eternity but because we do matter because
48:37God so loved the world he gave his only
48:39begotten son that whoever believes in him
48:41should not perish but have eternal life
48:43so I hope you've all received him as
48:45saviour if not now is the day of
48:48salvation now is the day to be reconciled
48:51to God because Jesus is the only one who
48:54can do that he is the sinless one humanity
48:57perfected the one who came from God to
48:59reconcile God and man to bring us into a
49:02relationship with the living God and
49:05finally he says to us Matthew 11 verse 28
49:08come to me all you who labor and heavy
49:11laden and I will give you rest take my
49:14yoke upon you and learn from me for I'm
49:16gentle and lowly in heart and you will
49:19find rest for your souls for my yoke is
49:22easy and my burden is light in his great
49:26love for us he left the glories of heaven
49:28to become man to suffer in our place the
49:31wrath of God against sin to rise again from
49:34the dead to ascend to heaven and send us
49:37the Holy Spirit that he might dwell
49:40within us while we're in this body and
49:43prepare us for a life to be with him
49:44forever in glory and he's coming again
49:47empowering great glory to prepare a place
49:49for us in his eternal kingdom praise the
49:52Lord let's just have a moment to be quiet
49:54maybe just one or two like to even
49:57reflect on what I've said and just give
49:59thanks to the Lord for what he's done
