00:00let's have a look at what the bible does say the divinity of the lord jesus
00:02if you look at the gospel of john in particular the divinity of jesus as son of god is one of the
00:08major themes of john's gospel and it comes up repeatedly in the book of john particularly in
00:15the first chapter first chapter of john is very clear what it means
00:21verse one in the beginning was the word the word was with god the word was god
00:28he was in the beginning with god all things were made through him without him nothing was made that
00:33was made in him was life and the life was the light of men and the light shines in the darkness
00:38and the darkness did not comprehend it john's saying here that in the beginning was the word
00:44logos in hebrew memra in logos in greek memra in hebrew and the memra according to some jewish
00:53scholars is the word through which god created the heavens and the earth look at the book of
00:59genesis it says and god said let there be light and there was light so god spoke his word and the
01:04word and what came into being came into being so that way you can see that all things were made
01:09through the word of god and the word of god was actually jesus who was the one who created the
01:14heavens and the earth he was there in the beginning he's always been there and through him
01:19the worlds were made and it says the word was god the word was with god and the word was god
01:26jesus witnesses have a bit of a problem with this so they translate it in their bible and say the word
01:31was a god you can't do that it says the word was god that's what it says in the greek that's what it
01:37says in the english that's what the bible says jesus was not a god he was the god manifested in the flesh
01:44and then in verse 14 he goes on to say the word became flesh and god amongst us we beheld his glory
01:51the glory as of the only begotten of the father full of grace and truth so this one who was defined as
01:57the word became flesh what has become flesh it means he became appeared in a human form we have flesh
02:06we also have spirit jesus came in the spirit but also in flesh as a real human being and we beheld his
02:16glory the disciples beheld his glory we didn't have that privilege but we can learn about it from them
02:21and he said we beheld his glory the glory as of the only begotten of the father full of grace and truth
02:27in other words this was the glory which came from god from eternity which was now manifesting itself
02:32in human form in the person of jesus christ one who exists from eternity to eternity through whom
02:39the world was made is here identified as the word of god he's here identified as the one who has become
02:46man and dwelled amongst us and we beheld him we saw him in his letter he said we handled him we touched
02:53him uh we saw him we we felt him we knew he was really there uh in the resurrection we see that he
03:00he had all the characteristics of a human being he could feel pain he could feel tired he could sleep
03:06he could eat he could do all the things which humans being to do he was really a man but all the time he
03:12was also god
