00:40Denmark is on alert due to an unauthorized drone activity over four of its airports on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
00:48Alborg Airport, a major hub for both commercial and military flights, was closed for about three hours as a result.
00:55Police could not yet comment on the purpose of the drones or who was behind them.
01:00The incident follows similar drone sightings that raised security concerns at Copenhagen Airport on Tuesday at Oslo Airport on Monday.
01:10Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called it the most serious attack yet on Denmark's infrastructure.
01:17The Danish defense minister stated that the attack appears professional.
01:20It is also known that commercial drones are not equipped with the necessary software to take off in no-fly zones.
01:28The Kremlin has called suspicions of Russian involvement unfounded.
01:31The events come as Europe is on high alert after NATO members like Poland, Estonia and Romania reported Russian airspace violations.
01:40They are reckless actions in at least three member states.
01:45On Tuesday, NATO condemned Russia's actions and warned it would use all necessary tools to defend itself.
01:51We will make sure that we can always defend and deter when necessary.
01:56Spain says a military jet carrying defense minister Margarita Robles suffered a GPS disturbance whilst flying over Russia's Kalingrad enclave.
02:10Her Airbus A330 was en route to Lithuania as part of a NATO policing mission.
02:17Relatives of Spanish troops and journalists were also on board.
02:20Robles later said such incidents would not weaken Spain's commitment to NATO.
02:28Russia has to know that we are not going to leave Ukraine alone, that we are going to continue with Ukraine all the time and that we reivindicate the right of all countries to live and to move freely without accepting the threats of Putin.
02:43This year, dozens of cases of GPS jamming in the Baltic states have been blamed on Russia.
02:48European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen faced a similar incident whilst flying over Bulgaria in what the Commission said was a suspected Russian operation.
02:58Both planes were ultimately able to land safely.
03:01Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told world leaders that the world is in the most destructive arms race in history, driven by artificial intelligence and drone warfare.
03:21It used to be that only the strongest countries could use drones because they were expensive and complex.
03:28Now, even simple drones can fly thousands of kilometers.
03:33World tech doesn't care about geography anymore.
03:37It's now reshaping it.
03:39Zelensky also slammed the United Nations as ineffective for nations experiencing war, stating that these nations have to heavily rely on weapons and having, quote, powerful friends.
03:52The word is one of the most destructive arms race in human history.
03:58This was one of the sharpest lines from Zelensky during his address at the UN General Assembly here in New York.
04:05He also criticized the international community, including the UN, for not having stop words.
04:10For example, in Ukraine, in Gaza, in Sudan or elsewhere, he said that survival depends on weapons and not on international law.
04:19He also warned that Putin is trying to expand his war in Europe.
04:24On Thursday, new addresses are expected to come, including from Palestine and the European Union.
04:31Eleonora Vasquez, Euronews, New York.
04:33Following Italy, Spain has now also announced it will deploy a Navy ship to assist and protect the flotilla heading to Gaza.
04:45The aid flotilla is a civilian fleet of over 50 small vessels from 44 countries, aimed at breaking Israel's blockade of Gaza and delivering crucial aid to the Strip.
04:56Activists on board the convoy, including climate activist Greta Thunberg,
05:00have reported several attacks on their ships since departing from Spain at the start of September.
05:06The activists emphasize that the attacks would not intimidate them from backing down from their humanitarian mission,
05:13which they say abides by international law.
05:16Israel has repeatedly said it would not allow the flotilla to reach the Strip,
05:21claiming without evidence that the convoy is, quote, organized by Hamas.
05:25MEPs are calling for continued support for Iranian civil society,
05:33three years after the death in custody of Masa Amini,
05:37arrested by Tehran's morality police for failing to comply with the mandatory dress code.
05:43Last month, Iran announced that it had arrested more than 21,000 people,
05:48accusing them of spying for Israel during June's 12-day conflict.
05:52Human rights advocates say that repression is only getting worse.
05:59The persecution of activists continues, discrimination against the women continues.
06:06Several women, as you know, are actually on death row.
06:11Many of them are imprisoned, are in this prison called Karachak Prison.
06:16It has a horrible situation.
06:18The situation is like just one bathroom for 60 people or 70 people.
06:25With UN sanctions on Iran set to return,
06:28one German MEP is calling for tougher measures on the regime,
06:32while still supporting rights defenders.
06:34It is quite important that we increase the pressure on this brutal regime
06:38that represses its own people, that also brings terror to the region,
06:42and with transnational repression even to Europe.
06:45But at the same time, we need to make sure that sanctions are very targeted,
06:49that they are against the regime, that they make their lives difficult,
06:52but that we also strengthen those inside Iran who fight for democracy,
06:57who fight for freedom, civil society activists and others.
07:01Talks on Iran's nuclear program remain stalled.
07:05At the end of August, the European troika, France, Germany and the UK,
07:10triggered the snapback mechanism to reimpose sanctions within 30 days.
07:15The UN Security Council has given the green lights for the move,
07:19although last-minute negotiations stand to still change the outcome.
07:24If no deal is reached, sanctions are due to be reinstated on September 28.
07:29China says it will no longer claim developing country status
07:39under the World Trade Organization agreements,
07:42a change long demanded by the United States.
07:46The developing country status gave Beijing softer market opening requirements,
07:51longer transition periods and exemptions from contributing to a climate change fund.
07:56In this regard, China announced that in the present and future negotiations,
08:06we don't need new, special and different conditions.
08:10We will gradually highlight the Chinese in the real action
08:14that the international government supports the international government and a big role.
08:20Commerce industry officials said the step was an attempt to boost the global trading system
08:25at a time when it's under threat from tariff disputes and protectionist policies.
08:29The WTO's head praised China's decision and called it key to reform,
08:34but the European Commission urged Beijing to go further.
08:36I'll answer this with my trade hat on.
08:39We welcome China's decision to no longer avail itself of developing country status in future trade agreements,
08:45but I would also recall that we firmly believe China should stop availing itself of developing country status
08:51under also existing agreements.
08:53China is currently a middle-income country,
08:57although has increasingly provided loans and technical assistance in infrastructure projects around the world.
09:05Two detainees are dead and another critically injured after a shooting
09:09at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Dallas.
09:15Police say the gunman opened fire from a nearby building early Wednesday morning,
09:20killing one victim at the scene and injuring two others.
09:23One later died in hospital.
09:26The suspect was found dead on the roof of an adjacent building from a self-inflicted gunshot.
09:32Dallas police said the FBI was investigating the attack as targeted violence,
09:38with ammunition at the scene reportedly holding anti-ICE messaging.
09:42U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance condemned what he called an obsessive attack on law enforcement.
09:49Texas Governor Greg Abbott also framed the incident as an attack on ICE.
09:56Homeland Security officials stressed that no ICE agents were injured in the attack.
10:01For the fifth year in a row, Thessaloniki has hosted the EU Rice Festival,
10:10highlighting the sustainability, quality and safety of European rice.
10:16Local producers use the event to discuss the challenges facing rice cultivation and exports.
10:23Greece is the third largest rice producer in the whole of Europe.
10:27The problem of the time has been affected by the weather.
10:29The problem of the time has been affected by the weather.
10:32The most important thing is that the weather has increased the rates of rice in the EU.
10:40in the European Union, with the result that Greece, since it is an agricultural country
10:46in the European Union, is to lose the agorize, that is to lose the Eastern Europe,
10:49because the Eastern countries raise wheat in very low prices,
10:55but not with the same quality and safety that the European European wheat has.
11:02Rice-grower Evgenio Yannineta showcased a variety of rice he has developed
11:07to withstand extreme climate change and long drought periods.
11:12We present in this festival here new rice varieties that are very resistant to diseases,
11:18very productive and that are adapted to the Greek environment.
11:22Our final result would be to give a greater benefit to the farmers
11:26and a hope for the future for the cultivation of rice.
11:31The festival also featured award-winning restaurants which set up live kitchens
11:36and invited the public to taste dishes made with Greek rice at their centre.
