00:00Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the U.S. to expand sanctions on Russian oil from two
00:06companies to the whole sector as he visited London to meet with officials. The comments came as
00:13Zelensky spoke with two dozen leaders of the Coalition of the Willing, hosted by U.K. Prime
00:18Minister Keir Starmer, to discuss ways to force Russia to end its invasion of Ukraine.
00:23Zelensky also appealed to Washington to provide long-range missiles, which he saw in his meeting
00:29with Trump last week to enable his embattled country to strike deep into Russia.
00:34We really don't have something which can destroy ballistic. That's why Americans helped us,
00:42but also Europeans, because firstly, Europe delivered patriot systems, but they did it
00:51together because the United States gave licenses for this. Yes. But I hope that we will, in
00:59any way, we will find a way how to produce our own systems. We have to do it.
01:04In a private meeting with Starmer, Zelensky accused Putin of not being serious about ending the war
01:09as Russian strikes continued to pummel Ukrainian cities on Friday. The Ukrainian president also
01:16met with King Charles during his visit, where he was received with a Guard of Honor welcome
01:20to display London's support for Kyiv.
01:27The United States has confirmed it is sending its most powerful aircraft carrier to the waters of
01:33Venezuela in what is seen as the latest military escalation in the region.
01:38The USS Gerald R. Ford, capable of carrying up to 90 aircraft, will be deployed to, quote,
01:46detect, monitor and disrupt illicit actors and activities that pose a threat to the U.S.,
01:52says the Pentagon. Hours before the announcement, the U.S. said it had conducted its 10th strike on a
01:58suspected drug-running boat, leaving six people dead. Venezuela's president, Nicolás Maduro, has
02:05accused the U.S. of, quote, fabricating a new war, and there are fears that the U.S. military buildup
02:12is aimed at removing him from power. Trump has accused Maduro of being the leader of a drug
02:18trafficking organization, and the U.S. does not currently recognize him as Venezuela's legitimate leader.
02:24In an outline of China's blueprint for the next five years, Chinese officials have vowed to reduce
02:34reliance on foreign advanced technology and boost domestic production amid heightened trade tensions
02:40with the U.S. The news came after officials in the ruling Chinese Communist Party concluded
02:46four days of high-level talks in Beijing and released plans for the next five years.
02:51The 5,000-word communique was released on Thursday just days ahead of planned talks
02:56between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump. The new plans
03:01feature no major policy shifts for Beijing, despite ongoing global trade instabilities.
03:07The country instead looks to remain a global manufacturing powerhouse and continue to sustain
03:12economic growth. Five-year plans are a Soviet-style central planning method, which China still relies on
03:18heavily to map out priorities and sort funding. These plenum meetings are also used as a way to rally
03:24the party's top members around President Xi's leadership.
03:27In a historic ruling, a Paris court sentenced 27-year-old Dabia Benqueret this Friday to life in a prison
03:39without the possibility of parole for the rape, the torture and the murder of 12-year-old Lola Davier in 2022.
03:48The first time such a sentence has ever been handed down to a woman in France. The case horrified the nation
03:58for its brutality and ignited a fierce political debate after it was revealed that Benqueret, born in
04:05Algeria, was undocumented and had been asked to leave the country just two months before the crime.
04:13Throughout the trial, Dabia Benqueret showed no emotion, just as the verdict was read, a chilling
04:21contrast to the grief of Lola's family. Lola's mother and brother broke down in tears while the memory of
04:29Lola's father, who died last year after relapsing back into alcoholism, lingered over the courtroom.
04:37Benqueret has now 10 days to appeal this decision.
