00:00US President Donald Trump warned Europe illegal migration was destroying European heritage
00:06in a long-ranging speech delivered at the UN General Assembly.
00:10Super Typhoon Ragasa, as one of the strongest in years, has halted life on the southern
00:14Chinese coast after leaving a trail of deadly destruction in Taiwan and the Philippines.
00:20US President Donald Trump warned Europe migration was destroying their countries, said he solved
00:26seven wars worldwide and suggests that he win a Nobel Peace Prize in a long-winding speech
00:32delivered at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
00:36We've collected some of the highlights here.
00:39I'm the President of the United States but I worry about Europe, I love Europe, I love
00:43the people of Europe and I hate to see it being devastated by energy and immigration.
00:52This double-tailed monster destroys everything in its wake and they cannot let that happen
00:57any longer.
00:58You're doing it because you want to be nice, you want to be politically correct and you're
01:03destroying your heritage.
01:07Trump also claimed he solved seven long-time wars across the globe.
01:11Likewise, in a period of just seven months, I have ended seven unendable wars.
01:20They said they were unendable, you're never going to get them solved.
01:24Some were going for 31 years, two of them, 31, think of it, 31 years, one was 36 years,
01:31one was 28 years.
01:34I ended seven wars.
01:36I'm not mentioning names, I see it and I can call...
01:39Elsewhere, he suggested he should win the Nobel Peace Prize.
01:46Everyone says that I should get the Nobel Peace Prize for each one of these achievements.
01:52But for me, the real prize will be the sons and daughters who live to grow up with their
01:57mothers and fathers because millions of people are no longer being killed in endless and unglorious
02:04wars.
02:05But he saved some of his harshest criticism for the United Nations itself.
02:12As we do now, and to limit the...
02:15Not only is the UN not solving the problems it should too often, it's actually creating
02:21new problems for us to solve.
02:23The best example is the number one political issue of our time, the crisis of uncontrolled
02:28migration.
02:29It's uncontrolled.
02:31Your countries are being ruined.
02:34The United Nations is funding an assault on Western countries and their borders.
02:40This was a humanitarian act for all involved because...
02:46US President Donald Trump praised Ukraine's fight against Russians here in New York during
02:51the UN General Assembly.
02:53He said that Ukraine should restore its pre-war border with the help of the US and NATO.
02:58He also said that sanctions on Russia remain an option.
03:01In a press conference with Zelensky, Trump said that NATO countries should shoot down Russian
03:06aircraft if they enter NATO space.
03:08Zelensky will address the UN on Wednesday.
03:11Eleonora Vasquez, Aero News, New York.
03:16As world leaders gathered in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, Qatar's
03:21Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamid al-Thani urged the end to the Israel-Palestine conflict and vowed
03:26to continue facilitating the peace process.
03:28During his address, the Emir said Israel's goal is to destroy Gaza, make it unlivable and
03:34displace the Palestinians.
03:36On the sidelines of the General Assembly, Sheikh Tamim and other Arab leaders met with US
03:41President Donald Trump to discuss Gaza's future, including post-war governance and reconstruction.
03:47The only reason we're here is to stop the war and bring the hostages back.
03:51And we count on you and your leadership as well to end this war and to help the people
03:57of Gaza.
03:58The situation is very, very, very bad.
04:00In a lighter moment that went viral on social media, French President Emmanuel Macron joked
04:05with President Trump that he was blocked by his motorcade.
04:08Before making a serious request, a trilateral meeting with the Qatari leader this weekend
04:12to discuss Gaza.
04:13We'll continue to follow this developing story.
04:15Abdul Halim, Euronews, Doha.
04:18Super Typhoon Ragasa, as one of the strongest in years, has halted life on the southern Chinese
04:27coast after leaving a trail of deadly destruction in Taiwan and the Philippines.
04:3114 people died in a flooded township in Taiwan and four deaths were reported in the Philippines.
04:42Early on Wednesday, the storm whipped waves taller than lampposts onto Hong Kong's walkways.
04:48Fierce winds of around 195 kilometers per hour knocked down hundreds of trees, damaged buildings,
04:56and left over 30 people injured.
05:00In the nearby casino hub of Macao, streets turned into streams, forcing shops and schools
05:05to close and power to be cut in flooded areas.
05:10The powerful typhoon skirted about 100 kilometers south of Hong Kong with hundreds of people
05:15in both cities seeking refuge in temporary centers.
05:19The European Commission is calling for a drone defense wall along the EU's eastern flank
05:42after several drones shuttered Copenhagen airport for several hours.
05:49But still, for those who still doubted the need to have a drone wall in the European Union,
05:55well, here we get another example of how important it is.
05:58The latest attacks in Romania, in Poland, in Estonia, now in Denmark, four member states have been targeted.
06:06And this is precisely why we will be working on this drone wall.
06:09As mentioned by Anita, Commissioner Kubilius will meet with the seven frontline member states.
06:13I named them yesterday, here we go again, Estonia, Latvia, Finland, Lithuania,
06:19Poland, Romania, Bulgaria.
06:21And I can now add to that list also Denmark, of course, on top of Ukraine.
06:26Many thanks, Karl.
06:28Danish leader Meta Fredriksen called the drone incident the most serious attack yet on the country's critical infrastructure
06:37and said Russian involvement could not yet be ruled out.
06:41The commission says the drone defense project, first outlined by Ursula von der Leyen,
06:47will unite eight countries, including Denmark, Poland, Romania and the Baltic states,
06:52to detect and respond to aerial incursions.
06:55Recent months have seen Russian assets violate the airspace of Poland, Romania and Estonia.
07:01EU officials say the incidents show Moscow is testing the boundaries of European borders
07:08and prove the bloc cannot hesitate to act in the face of Russian aggression.
07:13The European Parliament's Committee on Legal Affairs has voted to protect the immunity of Peter Magyar,
07:29Clara Dobrev and Hilaria Salis, all sought by Hungary's judiciary on different charges.
07:36Hungarian authorities had submitted three separate requests to lift the immunity of Magyar,
07:41who is also the leader of Hungary's opposition party Tisha,
07:45and the main political opponent of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
07:49But the committee disagreed.
07:51By contrast, the same Committee on Legal Affairs has voted to lift the immunity of Polish MEPs
07:58Mikhail Dvorczyk and Daniel Obaitek.
08:01The final decision on all five MEPs will be taken at the next plenary session in Strasbourg
08:07at the beginning of October.
08:09Vincenzo Genovese, Euronews, Brussels.
08:15Jimmy Kimmel returned to his late-night show on Tuesday after a six-day suspension
08:20over comments about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirby.
08:24And that is, you understand that it was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man.
08:32I don't think there's anything funny about it.
08:39Nor was it my intention to blame any specific group for the actions of what, it was obviously a deeply disturbed individual.
08:46Last week, ABC suspended the show after a group of affiliated stations said they would not air it, calling the remarks offensive and insensitive.
08:57Kimi also defended free speech, saying the government cannot be allowed to control what we do and do not say on television, calling it un-Americans.
09:04And family members on the other side.
09:06However, President Donald Trump criticized the host's return, while the head of the FCC had threatened action against ABC's parent company, Disney, just last week.
09:15Anyone, this was a sick person who believed violence was a solution.
09:25Jens Escalant, President of the EU Chamber of Commerce in China, warned of a sharp rise in Chinese exports to Europe following Washington's announcement of sweeping import tariffs in April.
09:37Sifting trade from the US to Europe could have a significant impact on European industries, especially if imports from other countries are offered at low prices.
09:48We have seen in the first half how exports from China to North America have been declining.
09:53So I think you could perhaps term it a trade diversion.
09:58But I don't think it's the whole story.
10:00I think there are more elements to this sort of continued growth of Chinese exports to Europe.
10:05One is, of course, that you have a number of Chinese companies that are just very good at what they are doing.
10:10One reason for the jump, China's weak currency, the country's economy, is battling stagnant consumer demand and falling property prices, headwinds that are also squeezing European businesses in China.
10:23The latest survey by the EU Chamber of Commerce in China saw 73% say doing business there is getting harder year after year, with confidence at rock bottom.
10:34The pessimism that you see right now is primarily due to the state of the Chinese economy.
10:39We have seen that in many sectors there is very intense competition.
10:45You have over capacity in some sectors.
10:48So we really think the Chinese government right now needs to focus on how do we get back to a situation where demand and supply is in better alignment than is the case today.
11:00Talking to Euronews, the EU business leader warned that if the current trend of trading balance continues, tensions with China are almost certain to rise, urging both sides to keep talking to reduce the risk for their economies.
11:14We want to have a clean light of sight, predictability, reliability are things really that we appreciate as businesses as we do our plans, we make investments and so on.
11:29And I think in this present environment where you sort of have sky high tariffs and then they decrease and then one policy announcement is being made and then there is a reaction.
11:39All this volatility right now is something that affects business behaviors.
11:43Blizziness behaviors.
