00:00Polls have opened in what many consider as one of the most important parliamentary elections in Moldova's recent history.
00:10The Danish armed forces say unidentified drones were seen flying near one of the biggest military installations into the early hours of Saturday.
00:20The Global Sumud Flotilla says it will continue its sail towards Gaza on Saturday despite losing one of its vessels to engine failure.
00:31Polls have opened in what many consider as one of the most consequential elections in Moldova's recent history.
00:38Voters will elect on Sunday a new 101-seat parliament and are largely presented with a choice between inching closer to the European Union or Russia.
00:48The country's economic troubles, in rampant inflation, a worsening cost-of-living crisis, and high poverty rates are also at the forefront of this vote.
00:57The incumbent past party is looking to secure re-election and keep the country's hopes of EU membership alive.
01:05Other parties from the so-called patriotic electoral bloc are looking to derail this progress and seek friendlier ties with the Kremlin.
01:12Prime Minister Dorin Recyan has slammed Moscow for allegedly interfering with the election through disinformation and voter-buying campaigns.
01:22He also claims that Russia has spent hundreds of millions of euros in an attempt to regain control of the country.
01:28Police have carried out hundreds of raids leading up to Sunday and arrested scores of people they suspect plan to disrupt the vote.
01:37Unidentified drones were seen near one of Denmark's biggest military installations overnight into Saturday, according to the Danish Armed Forces.
01:50The army did not specify where the drones were observed, but officials speaking to local media say they were seen near the Karup airbase in western Denmark.
01:59It comes just a few days after the country reported a major breach in drone sightings, which prompted the closures of airports.
02:08The largest and busiest, Copenhagen Airport, was closed for hours after several drones were observed in its airspace.
02:16Close to a half-dozen other airports, both civilian and military, were also temporarily restricted in the days that followed due to similar breaches.
02:25Danish authorities have slammed the incidents as hybrid attacks.
02:28Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said on Thursday that Monday's attacks were, quote,
02:34the most serious on Danish critical infrastructure to date.
02:40The Global Sumud Flotilla says it will continue its journey towards Gaza despite recent difficulties which has seen one of the boats on the fleet sidelined.
02:50The family boat, one of the main vessels carrying Aden people on the flotilla, suffered an engine failure, forcing its docking and repair.
02:58A spokesperson for the group says the damage was done after multiple incendiary drone attacks, leading to what he called a catastrophic failure.
03:06People on board the boat, as well as the eight cargo, will be relocated and distributed across the remainder of the fleet, set to continue its sail on Saturday.
03:16Meanwhile, ten Italian citizens have decided to abandon the journey following pressure from the Italian government.
03:22President Sergio Mattarella asked the group to heed of Prime Minister Giorgia Maloney's advice and not put anyone in harm's way.
03:30Maloney had requested the initiation of an aid corridor to deliver the flotilla's supplies to Palestinians via Cyprus.
03:38The group says they're determined to break the Israeli siege on the enclave and called for more global support amid Israel's repeated aggression in international waters.
03:46Russian attacks in Zaporizha on Saturday left around 9,000 households without electricity, though by morning energy crews had managed to restore almost all power, Ukrainian authorities said.
04:05According to the Zaporizha Regional Military Administration, a store, ten retail outlets, two apartment buildings and several non-residential premises were damaged in the drone attacks.
04:18A site near the bus station, which had already been hit once before in August by guided bombs, was also affected.
04:27Saturday's attacks came as Ukraine's Zaporizha nuclear plant has been off-grid for four consecutive days, its longest blackout to date.
04:37Blackouts at the Zaporizha nuclear power station have been frequent since Russia seized the plant in 2022 due to its proximity to the front line.
04:46But experts are warning that the current blackout heightens the risk of a malfunction.
