00:00Your mom read this book and I know that you kind of gave her a heads up about a certain moment in
00:04this book as well with you at camp. And it was interesting that you said that this is something
00:09that you didn't even kind of come to terms with only a couple of years ago, right? Oh yeah. Yeah.
00:14Yeah. I think, you know, as a mom, I feel like you don't want to feel like you failed your kids.
00:20You just want the best for them. And there are so many things that are out of her control and
00:25you can only protect your kids so much. And then, um, so for me, I really, oh God, it like killed me
00:33to, to hear her like, so, so heard about some of the things that had happened to us. But, um,
00:40I mean, she was amazing. She took over as a father and a mother. Like she is a badass. Um, and, uh,
00:49yeah, I think there was nothing that she could have done to protect me, you know, like,
00:55the whole world is a crazy, scary place and you can only, uh, protect your kids so much.
01:00She seems like a great mom. She's such a good mom.
01:02Like we were talking before, like about like you snuggling up, watching rock of love together,
01:07like just like, you know, just binging trashy TV, which I totally love.
01:12She introduced me to trash TV, Jerry Springer, uh, rock of love, really informative childhood TV.
01:21If I was a mom in that stage too, I would have done the same thing. No, it seems like the two of
01:26you have a really wonderful relationship. Yeah, we do. Yeah. That's so, that's so wonderful.
01:29I'm so lucky to have such a good mom. You really are. Do you have a relationship with your dad now?
01:34My dad and I's relationship is so fractured and complicated and messy. And, you know, uh,
01:41I'll always love him as my father, as a person, I won't understand some of his choices. Um,
01:49but it's like something that I've talked about the book too, with, with, you know, even like my mom's
01:54shortcomings, it's like the mom and the dad, they're, they're, they're the child too. They're
01:59just like big, they're, they're in a grownup body, but there's still those little kids like that make
02:04mistakes and don't make the best choices. There's no tool book or a, um, you know, guide to how to be
02:12a perfect parent. Yeah. And, um, you know, I, I can't even imagine, I, I don't know how I would
02:20do as a parent. I'm sure I would make a ton of mistakes too. So, you know, I think even in this
02:25book, as much pain and as much, uh, angst as I had for my dad in earlier years, I could humanize
02:32him and, and see him as a, as a, just a flawed person who made some mistakes and, uh, yeah,
02:38it's a, it's a relationship that will forever be, um, you know, we'll, we'll be working on.
