00:00Let's get started with last night's game which was one of the few duds on the board. How about
00:04that? The Kansas City Chiefs finally get themselves a win. It required them going to
00:09East Rutherford in the Meadowlands to get the victory in New Jersey 22-9. Seventh game that
00:16the Giants by the way have scored fewer than 10 points since the start of last season. They just
00:21keep on struggling offensively. That's the most in the NFL and four more than any other team. Maybe
00:27they should have kept their starting quarterback who's 3-0. Here's Patrick Mahomes on the great
00:31defensive performance for the Chiefs and also Brian Dable on what is next. We just executed better.
00:38I mean I think the first few drives I mean we drove the ball really well down the football field. We
00:41just had mistakes and penalties and I mean alignment stuff stuff that we're going to clean up for sure
00:48but I feel like we were moving the ball the right way. It kind of struggled there at the end of that
00:52second quarter but was able to get points at the end but it was just finishing the drives and I
00:57think that's something that's important in this league is getting touchdowns not field goals and
01:00when you score touchdowns it looks a lot better than when you're kicking long field goals.
01:03So I thought we battled defensively. Had a good plan. They made a couple nice plays there in the
01:10second half but there's a lot of things improved defensively. Gave us a chance. Thought we did a
01:16good job in a kicking game and fell short offensively. You know we ran the ball much better.
01:22Our passing game was was not good enough particularly on third down. So we were like
01:28one of ten on third down. That's hard to sustain drives and and put points on the board. So
01:33you know but I thought defensively we did some good things and in the kicking game we did as well.
01:39One of the games of the day in the NFL came right down to the wire. The Eagles blocked two field goals
01:44to complete their comeback against the Rams 33 to 26 and that's how the Eagles ended up covering that
01:50three and a half point spread and a blocked field goal all the way down the field for the
01:55touchdown. Really tough beat if you had the Rams yesterday. Good thing I did not. Here's Nick
01:59Sirianni on just closing out the Rams which of course was a bit of a surprise considering how the first
02:05half went. That's what you know the week that's what the process is for and I know our guys respect
02:11the process. I know our guys are hungry. I know our guys know that we're going to get people's best
02:15shots which will only make us better. That's a really good football team with really good
02:21players. Can't tell you like all the way around they've done a great job building that football
02:26team and they got phenomenal football coaches. They had us on the ropes and our guys found a way to
02:32keep getting up and finding found a way. I'm proud of this football team. I'm excited about the response.
02:38This is week three. We got a lot of growth that we still can have. Came out took control of the
02:43football game ultimately you know not being able to finish in the red area. We weren't good enough
02:47on third downs. Some uncharacteristic you know things that we could execute on and then credit
02:52to them. They ended up making some plays. They got back in it. You know we came out here to win the
02:57football game. Those were our expectations. It's a disappointed locker room but it's a locker room
03:01that's going to respond and so it's week three and there's a lot of things that took part in that
03:06game. We lost that game as a team. We took the lead as a team and we're going to you know these are
03:12the chances to be able to lean in and see what you're really about and so that's a tough one
03:16today. I love this group and I'm excited about growing and whether we found a way to make that
03:20kick or whether we ended up having that result right there. We got to be able to keep it moving
03:24got a lot of football left. The Indianapolis Colts are three and oh they defeat the Titans
03:30yesterday 41 to 20. Jonathan Taylor had three touchdowns in this game yesterday. Daniel Jones has
03:37led the way and Indy's one of the best teams in the NFL through three games. Here's Jones's success.
03:44Yeah I don't know. I think obviously we're running it well. JT you know had another big time day. I
03:51think huge credit to him and how he's been playing and then the guys up front you know and they're
03:56blocking and the run game's been big and then guys are getting open making plays in the pass game
04:01with you know some explosive plays and stuff down the field. So I think a lot of credit to the guys up
04:06front. I think it starts there in the run game and the pass game and then you know playing off of
04:11that. Yeah I think we certainly expect to play at a high level. I think every time we we step out
04:17there every time we get the ball you know we expect to execute and go down the field and and
04:22and score. So no I don't think the expectation changes at any point whether we're playing you know
04:30regardless of how it's going. So yeah I think that stays that way and and we'll see. There's still
04:36things we got to clean up and work on. I think still you know some missed opportunities things
04:40that weren't as sharp as they should have been and we'll go back look at that and clean it up.
04:45A lot of turnovers yesterday for the New England Patriots. That led to their demise as the Steelers
04:50win and cover the one and a half. 21 to 14 the final. Aaron Rodgers threw two touchdown passes but
04:56really it was New England giving the ball away in the red zone and at the goal line. Here's Aaron
05:01Rodgers on the win. Just our defense honestly. I mean there was urgency. I think you know it was one
05:08of those weird disjointed games. We had three possessions in the first half. We had a chance
05:13on the third possession to keep it going. We just Pat and I weren't on the same page on the scramble drill
05:17and we sat on the bench for what seemed to be 20 or 30 minutes. So we just couldn't get to a rhythm
05:23at all. And then we came out second half. I made a terrible throw. Defense just kind of stood on
05:29their head all day. But you know I thought the first two drives are really good rhythm wise and we
05:33just couldn't find that rhythm in the second half.
05:36Aaron, you did it at the end. What does that say about the offense resiliency and stick to the next one?
05:41I mean it's what we're supposed to do. You know we got to make those plays. So we're not in those
05:45positions. You know 14 nothing. We're feeling pretty damn good about ourselves. You know we haven't been
05:49ahead by two scores yet and two drives two touchdowns starting fast for a third straight
05:54week. But you know I just didn't didn't play great. And we kind of lost our rhythm. Had too
06:00many penalties and negative yards plays and didn't make them pay when we had opportunities.
06:06Biggest upset of the weekend in Cleveland. The Browns defeat the Packers. Green Bay seven and a
06:11half point road favorites. Matt LaFleur not too keen on taking the L.
06:16Well that was extremely disappointing. Obviously to be in a position to win the game at the end of
06:24the game and to have the total the script totally flip on you with a block and then them getting
06:29into field goal range. It's tough. It's tough to deal with. But you better learn from each and every
06:37opportunity that you go out there in the wins and in the losses and you got to move on. So you know
06:44I thought there were a lot of things a lot of positives in regards to how our defense competed
06:50and played through through four quarters. But one thing that we have to get corrected is I mean when
06:58you have 14 penalties in a game it's going to be tough to overcome that. So we got to do a much better
07:04job of coaching the fundamentals the details and then we got to lock in at a higher level in regards to
07:11some of the controllable penalties whether it's false starts or offsides or whatever you have.
07:17But ultimately you know this is a total team sport. I thought we played well enough defensively to win
07:22the game and didn't do a good enough job on offense and on special teams. All right let's close out the
07:29segment with the rest of the National Football League results. We've got the Chargers defeating the
07:33Broncos 23 to 20. They're 3-0 on the season. The Jets blocked a field goal late in the game.
07:39We're in it all the way back for a touchdown. They end up covering but not winning 29 to 27 against
07:43Tampa Bay. 49ers squeak back squeak by the Arizona Cardinals 16 to 15 to fight despite giving up a
07:51safety late in the game there. And Caleb Williams tied a career high with four touchdown passes
07:55as the Bears could not be stopped against Dallas 31 to 14. Welcome back to Newswire here on Sports
08:01Grid. I'm Craig Misch. We'll dive into the latest in the National Football League coming up.
08:06A lot of injury notes to get to and of course at the top of the hour we'll have updates on
08:10everything going on in the National Football League. Some major ones yesterday especially
08:14affecting fantasy football too. All right but first let's dive into some college football here in
08:19case you missed it over the weekend. Some big shifts in the AP poll. The top 25 is the biggest win
08:26probably goes to the University of Miami Hurricanes. They defeated my Florida Gators. Man that was
08:32tough to watch as you see the Hurricanes have moved all the way up in the AP top 25 poll now amongst the
08:39top teams in the country and we'll see if that is maintained. Ohio State still number one. Miami up to
08:44two. Oklahoma moves up to seven. Very exciting finish they had against Auburn and then Indiana all the way
08:50up to number 11 after their win against Illinois. So that's the landscape right now of college football.
08:55Also BYU re-enters the top 25 as well. As far as the Gators, my Gators are concerned. My gosh it feels
09:03like a long season is headed here. It was hard to watch that Saturday night. The defense though was
09:08really the story for the Hurricanes as they beat Florida 26 to 7. That was the final score there.
09:14Pretty mediocre game for Carson Beck and the Hurricanes offense but you know the Gators just
09:20basically have shown nothing on offense back-to-back weeks. D.J. Lagway throwing for under 100 yards
09:26and Miami deservedly moves up to number two. Painful for me to say. 24 to 17 was the final.
09:32A very late safety. Speaking of crazy covers this weekend in college football. Oklahoma six and a
09:37half point favorites. They get a safety against Auburn at the end of the game and four and oh John
09:42Mateer and company. Although Mateer didn't play that well either I thought for Oklahoma but they are
09:46four and oh on the season. How about Fernando Mendoza? Five touchdown passes. Indiana just
09:53crushed Illinois. It was one of the biggest largest margins of victory for two teams that are playing
09:58in the top 25. You usually don't see that. The final was 63 to 10 in that one and also Clemson.
10:05That was a big story this weekend too is Dabo Swinney last week kind of going in on everyone saying
10:10hey what are you worried about us losing so much? We've had a lot of success in the past. Not going to be
10:14able to continue that. They were 17 and a half point home favorites and they end up losing this
10:21game to Syracuse by a final score of 34 to 21 with college football. A lot of great matchups coming up
10:27this weekend. I think this is going to be a better week of college football if I'm not mistaken.
10:30All right Major League Baseball's pennant races continue and it looks like the National League is
10:36going to come down to the final game of the season. That's the way that this is headed and that's
10:40thanks to the New York Mets absolute debacle of a series against the Washington Nationals. They end up
10:47losing yesterday by a run and they lose two out of three to the Nats in the series. They fall out of
10:54the playoff spot for the first time since April the 5th. Yeah that goes all the way back to the first week
10:59of the season and the reason why that happened is because the Reds they finish off a four game sweep
11:05of the Cubs and now they are tied with the Mets for the final wild card spot. Also the Detroit Tigers
11:11are scuffling. They get swept by the Braves and the Guardians win three out of four from the Twins
11:17so Cleveland is now just one game back of the Central and if this continues for Detroit this
11:22week they could find themselves out completely. We'll see and also Mariners Cal Raleigh hit his 58th
11:28home run yesterday. That of course is the most in Major League Baseball as Seattle will try to get
11:34into the postseason and see how far they can go. Houston also is on the outside looking in as well.
11:39Well in the National Football League last night in case you missed it 22-9 was the final as the Chiefs
11:44defeated the Giants. The Chiefs had lost three straight games going back to the Super Bowl last year
11:49but they ended up getting it together and really shutting down the Giants. We'll see if they end up
11:54making a move again. 22-9 was the final there. Patrick Mahomes found a new weapon in Taequann Thornton
12:00so maybe that's a big part of their offense going forward. We will see but credit to the defense of
12:05the Chiefs as Patrick Mahomes discussed. There's no doubt that they're headed now on the right track.
12:11We just executed better. I mean I think the first few drives I mean we drove the ball really well down
12:15the football field. We just had mistakes and penalties and I mean alignment stuff stuff that we're
12:21not the cleanup for sure but I feel like we were moving the ball the right way. Kind of struggled
12:26there at the end of that second quarter but was able to get points at the end but it was just
12:30finishing the drives and I think that's something that's important in this league is getting
12:33touchdowns not field goals and when you score touchdowns it looks a lot better than when you're
12:37kicking long field goals. So I thought we battled defensively. Had a good plan. They made a couple
12:44nice plays there in the second half but there's a lot of things improved defensively. Gave us a chance.
12:50Thought we did a good job in a kicking game and fell short offensively. You know we ran the ball
12:56much better. Our passing game was was not good enough particularly on third down. So we were like
13:03one of ten on third down. That's hard to sustain drives and and put points on the board. So you know
13:10but I thought defensively we did some good things and in a kicking game we did as well.
13:14Special teams was a big factor in all of the games in the NFL yesterday.
13:18No more than the Eagles and Rams where the Rams missed two field goals at the end of the game
13:23had field goals blocked that led to the Eagles winning. It also led to the Eagles covering the
13:28three and a half point spread and sometimes these are just how games are won. Here's Nick Sirianni on
13:34the very bizarre outcome that led to his team getting yet another win. That's what you know the week that's
13:41what the process is for and I know our guys respect the process. I know our guys are hungry. I know our
13:48guys know that we're going to get people's best shots which will only make us better. That's a
13:53really good football team with really good players. Can't tell you like the all the way around they've
13:59done a great job building that football team and they got phenomenal football coaches. They had us on
14:04the ropes and our guys find a way to keep getting up and finding find a way. I'm proud of this football
14:10team. I'm excited about the response. This is week three. We got a lot of growth that we still can have
14:16came out took control the football game. Ultimately you know not being able to finish in the red area.
14:20We weren't good enough on third downs some uncharacteristic you know things that we could
14:25execute on and then credit to them. They ended up making some plays. They got back in it.
14:29You know we came out here to win the football game. Those were our expectations. It's a
14:33disappointed locker room but it's a locker room that's going to respond and so it's week three
14:38and there's a lot of things that took part in that game. We lost that game as a team. We took the lead
14:43as a team and we're going to you know these are these are the chances to be able to lean in and see
14:48what you're really about and so that's a tough one today. I love this group and I'm excited about
14:53growing and whether we found a way to make that kick or whether we ended up having that result
14:57right there. We got to be able to keep it moving. We got a lot of football left.
