00:00Well, after a stormy night last night, weather will be quiet this week and warm as we close out September.
00:15So we had several reports of hail last night.
00:18Two-inch-sized hail, almost golf-ball-sized hail in Minnetonka, Deep Haven.
00:22Several hail reports in the southeast metro, too, around Oakdale, Woodbury, and also southwestern Minnesota.
00:27And even a brief funnel cloud reported around Laverne in the southwestern part of the state.
00:31And it came with some pretty heavy rainfall, localized heavy rainfall.
00:35Southeast metro, Oakdale, Woodbury, Hastings, over two inches of rain and also a swath of two inches of rain in southeastern Minnesota.
00:42But today, fall begins.
00:441.19 p.m., the autumnal equinox, when the direct rays of the sun, those rays that are perpendicular,
00:50reach the equator, and then cross into the southern hemisphere after today,
00:54where they stay until March, until the spring equinox.
00:57So this sets the stage for the northern hemisphere winter.
01:01And today, as well, the sun will set on the North Pole, not to rise again until the vernal equinox.
01:06And all of the Arctic plunges itself here over the next couple of months into total darkness.
01:12And that's why cold air expands exponentially.
01:15Now, we could see some fog again tonight.
01:16We saw that early this morning, still some leftover moisture.
01:19The dark areas show those reduced visibilities.
01:21And then probably early Wednesday, too.
01:22So still some of this lingering moisture, along with light winds and overnight clear skies.
01:27But should see highs in the low 70s today, southern Minnesota, 60s to the north.
01:31And that's all dependent upon how much sun we see through the afternoon hours as we burn off some of this low cloud cover.
01:37We are going to see storms redevelop here in southeastern Minnesota,
01:40the southeastern corner of the state, into northeastern Iowa, southern Wisconsin.
01:44That's where that frontal boundary now sits.
01:46That upper level low, though, exiting.
01:48So everything will improve as far as the weather goes here over the next 24 hours or so.
01:52But even a marginal risk, again, from Rochester and south, level one out of five of some severe weather.
01:58And we saw yesterday a marginal risk did produce some severe weather.
02:01Sometimes even that low risk can produce some storms.
02:04And we do see some stronger cells that potentially develop.
02:06This is the updraft tracks from the high-resolution rapid refresh model denotes where some of those more intense storms could develop.
02:14Dew points today still in the low 60s, still a little sticky.
02:16But we are going to see some drier air start to move in here over the next 24 hours.
02:19Dew points in the 50s the next couple days.
02:21So not quite that dry fall air where we see dew points in the 40s or 30s,
02:25but a little less humid here over the next couple of days.
02:28But the jet stream overall riding high to our north across Canada.
02:31That means most storm systems staying away from us and also any cool air.
02:35So we're going to stay above normal here.
02:37In fact, the seven-day forecast for rainfall all stays south of Minnesota pretty much.
02:42The only rain for southern Minnesota is that activity later today that redevelops.
02:46And these are five-day average temperature anomalies from the European model.
02:50And you can see pretty much most of the continent, but especially our area of concern, Minnesota, well above normal temperatures.
02:57And it looks as though we're going to close out December with all above normal temperatures through the rest of the month.
03:01And that means we're going to guarantee another warm September compared to average.
03:06In fact, by Friday, we could be back near 80 degrees again.
03:09So even warmer.
03:1071 today.
03:11This might be the coolest day of the week thanks to some of those clouds and fog.
03:15But 59 overnight tonight.
03:17Again, temperatures falling right towards those dew points.
03:20And with light winds and clear skies, that means we probably will see some areas of fog again.
03:2574, though, for a high tomorrow.
03:26Midday and afternoon sun.
03:28A little more patchy fog early Wednesday.
03:30I do think that drier air will get rid of the chances of fog here as we head into the latter part of the week.
03:35But by the latter part of the week, warmer.
03:3778 Thursday.
03:3880 here by Friday.
03:39Lots of sun for the weekend.
03:41A beautiful last weekend of September with highs in the upper 70s.
03:44Lots of sunshine and scant chances of any rainfall here over the next seven days.
03:49Stuff友s.
04:03.
04:03.
