00:00All right, this is Nate here. We are backstage at Riff Fest, and I have another band here we're interviewing. It's Miss May I. What's up? How are you guys doing? They actually rocked the festival stage just, I mean, a couple hours ago? It wasn't too long ago, but you guys did amazing out there, promoting your new music. You guys are from Ohio, right? Yes. Yes? Okay. Where at in Ohio?
00:19So we're technically from a small town called Troy, Ohio. That's where the band originated, but we always say that we're from Dayton. It's the biggest little city around us. I know how that is. But now in the later years, we're all spread out. Okay. Okay. I want to know a little bit about your guys'. You've been at it for a while now. So like your origins. I don't know if you want to say how you guys all came together, how you had the idea to start a band, music creation, everything. How did it start?
00:44Yeah, yeah. Well, we were high school buddies and just started the band in high school. Okay. And just, we didn't really start it to play shows and it sort of just morphed into hanging out, then playing music, then writing music, playing local shows. It like just kept leading to the next thing. And next thing you know, the shows got bigger and MySpace was huge and Miss May I happened. So yeah, it was cool. Yeah.
01:06So what is, what's your guys' favorite thing about working together? I should say. Like what, what kind of stuff you find entertaining? Or is it people, you guys, you find each other entertaining?
01:17Uh, we, uh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm struggling. I'm struggling. I'm struggling. I'm struggling. I'm like, shit.
01:25We've been, we've been friends for so long that it's just a very, it's a very easy, fun time anytime we get to do anything. And he's the newest one. It's the same way. It's just a very easy time every time we're together.
01:40That's not necessarily true. There's a lot of stuff that can go wrong, but as far as like the four of us and how much fun we have together, it's, this is easy.
01:50Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Hanging out is the easy part. Yeah. Yeah. I could feel that. Well, I mean, I think people often forget that even if it's music, you know, it's bands, all that kind of stuff like that, it is still work.
02:01So, I mean, if you guys are butting heads, like collaborating or figuring out stuff, like there's going to be conflict. I mean, that's how it goes, right?
02:07Yeah. Right. Uh, I think one thing that really keeps us going and everything like that is just the fact that we all are still having a blast doing it.
02:14Yeah. Even after all the years, like it hasn't really become like a job for us. It's still fun. And we actually all have side gigs at home just to make this more fun out here and to pull less stress out of it.
02:25Sure. You know what I mean? So that way we don't have to come out here and say, Hey, how many shirts do we sell?
02:30Well, hopefully we can make ends meet. It was like, we just come out here now to have a great time. You know, as we get older, you know, we're all family men now.
02:38That's how it goes. That's awesome. Um, I did want to ask about some of your new music. So you guys dropped a song called Pray for Silence, right?
02:46Yes. Now I personally, big fan of that song. And I know you guys played it. The fans out of the festival stage loved it. Um, one thing I wanted to ask specifically about it though, is I found that the song was extremely heavy, both lyrically and like instrumentally.
02:59Okay. Um, I want to know if that was intentional or if there's like, what's behind that song? I really want to ask you guys.
03:03Yeah. Yeah. I think, um, especially, I think a lot of people can relate, especially when we were in the studio, just, I guess the state of really everything going on all the time and everyone's home lives and everything, just trying to make tour and this work and shows work and studio time.
03:17I'm like, there's just so much. And I feel like everyone always has those moments where you're just like, please, can I just, can I turn my phone off or can I have like a break?
03:24And that's really what the song's about is like getting to that point to where you're just like, you're almost finding yourself just hoping for just quietness, you know?
03:32Yeah. Yeah.
03:32I don't know if anybody can get like, it's the turn off the radio and a long drive kind of sort of song, which is sort of oxymoron because it's like a heavy song, but yeah, it's like that vibe.
03:41I gotcha. I gotcha.
03:42Heavy but not heavy.
03:43Right, right, right. Yeah. Yeah. So, I mean, that's, that's, what's really cool about music, right? The, how people, different people can interpret it.
03:48I think that can be interpreted in so many different ways for your fans out there.
03:51Yeah.
03:52I think all of them are good though, honestly, the way the song presents itself.
03:55So, um, really dig the song. Uh, I want to know what's next for you guys. You know, what's, what's going on next? You guys back in the studios, like continuing the tour. What's up?
04:03Yeah. So we're, uh, wrapping up the rest of the writing process for this record. And, um, I don't know if I'm allowed to say when that's supposed to come out, but it'll be on the horizon.
04:14Yeah. We can't say when it's going to be out cause we can't even figure out when we're going to finish the thing.
04:20Half is good.
04:22If it goes the way it's supposed to, it'll, we will finish our part in November, but we'll see.
04:28Okay.
04:28We probably, we said that last November too.
04:32We're fine. We're fine.
04:35We're just making sure it's good.
04:36Right. Okay.
04:37Quality control.
04:38Exactly. Quality control.
04:39Okay. Cool.
04:40Well, I mean, is there anything else you guys want to add to like for the fans out there listening, all that kind of stuff like that?
04:45Like what do you want to let them know?
04:46Yes. Thank you. Yes. Today rocked. Riff Fest is awesome. Thank you guys for hanging out with us. Hopefully you get invited again.
04:51If you haven't heard the new music, check out Pray for Silence. And if you've been jamming us all these years, thank you for supporting us.
04:57More to come.
04:58More to come.
04:59You heard it. Miss May I.
