00:22Vamos ver como ele está,
00:23ele está chegando com a frente.
00:25E Plessiger e Jett Loris
00:27atacando 26 eastião,
00:29Plessiger wants to go to the lead here
00:32Yeah, he knows what's up
00:33That was a nice move by him
00:35Because he knows once Jet got around him
00:36He's got to try to close that inside off
00:38Yeah, little mistake
00:39Open the door
00:40Hunter on the 96 gets him back
00:42Tomac looking in for it
00:44Yeah, this was that change I was talking about
00:46How they used to come down
00:47Up on top of that hill
00:48Then it dropped down
00:49Now he switched it up
00:49So, already these guys are going for it
00:53Tomac tucking in now
00:54Getting into that battle
00:55With Hunter
00:56And Plessiger
00:57Listen to this crowd
00:58Another move from the first
00:59.
01:01.
01:03.
01:05.
01:07.
01:09.
01:11.
01:13.
01:15.
01:17.
01:19.
01:21.
01:23.
01:27.
01:28.
01:34.
01:38.
01:40.
01:42.
01:44.
01:46.
01:46.
01:48.
01:50.
01:56.
01:58Tomac and Justin Cooper next, James.
01:59Yeah, you can see all the lines from the track conditions.
02:02You can also see where they worked on it.
02:04So as this track breaks in, some parts are going to be super loose
02:07and a lot of it is going to have some difficult soil for these guys.
02:12It's just different how they hooked back on to the start.
02:14That's the way they did it when this track jumped back into the national program back in 2005.
02:18And then it's been about 15 years when they changed that section.
02:23Now it's back to the old way.
02:25Yeah, I used to love that section because it was the only time I could get my tongue
02:28out of my chain.
02:28I was so tired.
02:29I could breathe right there.
02:31So I like that it's back.
02:33Yeah, used to have to hit those rollers and whoops behind the starting gate.
02:36No rest there.
02:38Oh, look at the three of Tomac and four starting to lurk.
02:43Yeah, you can start to see that 18.
02:44It's nice to be able to see these guys keep closing.
02:46I like the inside that Aaron has where he was able to get around Hunter.
02:50So Eli knows he needs to go up to the front and at least try to get in front of Jet Lawrence
02:55and he's then slowed the race down.
02:56So I've got to bring this thing back to you.
03:00And send it to Will Christian.
03:01We've got more on Tomac.
03:04Thanks, Jason.
03:04I think this is what the Monster and Yamaha star racing team wanted out of Tomac.
03:09They said to me, Rich Simons, the team manager, specifically said,
03:12top five star.
03:13He's like, if he's top five, he'll start getting aggressive moving forwards.
03:17And he also noted that his start sequence, how he does this with the uphill being at altitude
03:22starting in first, as you guys referenced at the beginning of the race, that's his norm.
03:26Cortez, Colorado, where he lives and trains, is around the same elevation even a little bit more.
03:31So this is what he's used to.
03:32So this start and this charge is what the team are looking for.
03:35What do you see here so far, James?
03:37Is this pace or is this riders sorting out lines and where they are right now?
03:42Well, a little bit of both.
03:43I mean, I think the pace is going good.
03:45It seemed like they were able to close in on Jet on some of the slower parts of the corner.
03:48But, yeah, I mean, I think the difficult part for Eli, you can see all these ruts in here,
03:53just what we saw with Jet.
03:55Once he gets that gap, then you're going to have to push.
03:57Even if you're just as fast or a little bit faster, how much you're going to have to push because of that time.
04:01So I think it's a key part of the race for him to get forward and try to move up.
04:06And good to see RJ up in here, top five.
04:08And then you got Justin Cooper, our fastest qualifier, actually got passed by RJ.
04:12So good move.
04:13RJ's moving forward.
04:14Yeah.
04:14First season on a 450 for the 24, the Rockstar Husqvarna.
04:18And, yeah, for the fast qualifier, though, Cooper getting chucked back to sixth.
04:23Not what you'd expect.
04:26Critical juncture here.
04:28Plessinger trying to keep one Lawrence in sight and trying to hold off the other.
04:32Yeah, and this is the difficult part because as I believe Jet's actually figuring this racetrack out, trying to get his lines.
04:40Like I saw him jumping a few of these bumps and stuff.
04:42So he's starting to work into his form.
04:44So it's important, again, for Aaron to keep him on him, keep him uncomfortable because that two-second gap will turn into five-second real quick with these couple laps as this kid gets more comfortable with Jet Lawrence.
04:55And Tomac closing back to Hunter Lawrence now for third.
05:01You know, one of the things we haven't talked about here is Bruce.
05:06Bruce hurts really bad.
05:07So maybe that's some of the back and forth, as you can see.
05:10Let's see if Eli can make this outside work.
05:12No good there.
05:16He's going to try again.
05:19Yeah, I think eventually that outside is going to come into play.
05:22The inside continue to get deeper.
05:26Bit of a call before the storm here.
05:28Will this heat up with this top four?
05:34Now, when I watch Eli ride, I feel like he's an emotional rider.
05:38And what I mean by it is, like, when he makes passes, I think it just wakes him up.
05:41So if he's able to get around Hunter Lawrence and then maybe get around Aaron Flessinger, then he'll pull up on Jet Lawrence.
05:47So if he gets stuck behind these guys, then I think it could go the other way.
05:51So let's see what happens.
05:52JT.
05:53Yeah, I couldn't agree with you more, James.
05:54I think ideally you'd want to make some quick passes on AP and Hunter.
05:58I'm sure that's harder than it sounds.
06:00But think about what happened at the opening round at Fox Raceway.
06:03Eli sat on Jet's rear wheel for the better part of 35 minutes and wasn't able to make a decisive pass.
06:08So you think about what did he learn from that scenario?
06:11He needs to get to his rear wheel, start figuring out Jet's line, and he's got to attack this time.
06:17Jet's not a rider where you can wait for a mistake and he's going to hand it to you.
06:20He's going to have to force the issue.
06:23Yeah, I completely agree.
06:24And the way this track is, and because it's not so hot and there's slower parts,
06:29I don't think these guys are going to have to worry about conditioning.
06:30So I don't think Eli can play the game of, okay, he's going to come back to me because he's going to start getting tired.
06:35I don't think the way this track setup is going to allow those guys to have that conditioning issue that it had last weekend.
06:42Even with the elevation, the breathing?
06:43No, I just think there's a lot of resting parts in these corners.
06:47Like, specifically, once they get up on top of this hill, you start dropping back down.
06:51You can relax in these corners, get your breathing back up, and that just helps a lot when you're riding at this level.
06:57So for these guys, they're recovering, although they're out there racing.
07:01It's definitely close now.
07:03Tomac taking another shot at Hunter Lawrence at Hampshire.
07:06He's still in this fight also.
07:09Big runner on the outside for the three.
07:12Yeah, let's see if Eli can make that outside.
07:13All he needs to do is get next to Hunter and keep him somewhat close.
07:19He's going to try to do it.
07:20If he can get this corner right, this outshot should try to play.
07:24You see that?
07:25Nice move by Hunter.
07:26He jumped out of that corner because he sensed it.
07:28Now Eli can maybe switch it back up, get back to the inside of him right here.
07:32Here it is.
07:33Oh, he ran it in as hard as he could.
07:36Not enough.
07:36Yeah, he's trying.
07:42I love the way Eli's bike.
07:44It looks under acceleration just even compared to Hunter's.
07:48It just seems like he has more traction.
07:49It's not as busy for him on the rear end.
07:52It's not bouncing around as much.
07:53I like that.
07:54But you can see Chet Lawrence and also Plessinger beginning to pull away from this battle.
08:01Now about a two-second lead for the 18th.
08:04Yeah, I know this is frustrating for Eli and even for Hunter Lawrence because he can't race forward.
08:09He's got to block out like how he hopped out of the inside to get to the outside.
08:12He's slowing down trying to get, you know, make sure he plays defense on Eli and it's just allowing those guys to get away.
08:18So Tomac going to have to take another shot at Hunter as Chet Lawrence begins to pull away now.
08:28He's in the bottom screen.
08:32Another lap lead.
08:35Seems like we say that a lot.
08:36Oh, yeah.
08:37Another lap lead.
08:38But look, there's really only one 450 race outdoors we can really think of where he didn't have the good start.
08:43That was last week at Hangtown Moto 1.
08:45He finished third.
08:47You've been saying over and over how that track position is maybe more valuable than people even realize.
08:51And the way he manages races.
08:53And these Hondas just keep pulling starts, Will.
08:55Yeah, and the team just keep improving those Hondas, Jason.
09:00They've sort of talked about it very openly about the struggles that they've had just getting this bike ready for outdoors.
09:06I think we're seeing that now in Hunter Lawrence and him being able to keep up Eli Tomac right now.
09:10They were testing in California all week.
09:13And I was told by the team that this was the biggest week as far as kind of achievement and gains went.
09:19They said they're hoping that when they come out of Thunder Valley here, they'll have a base that they can work with for the rest of the year.
09:24So a lot of positivity coming out from the camp there.
09:27And they're going to need it right now because Will Tomac's taking another crack at Hunter.
09:34All right, let's see if he can maneuver.
09:37I think he lost a little bit too much ground.
09:38Hunter is a smart racer.
09:40He's blocking it just right.
09:42As you can see, he goes inside where Eli almost got him in the lap before.
09:45So that's heads up riding by him.
09:47Hunter Lawrence, that is.
09:48Now to the far side of the track, JT.
09:55Yeah, watching Hunter here, you know, there's no doubt about who's behind him.
09:59The Yamahas have a very unique sound.
10:01And also, he rides at such a high RPM.
10:03Hunter would be very easy for him to deduce who's behind him.
10:06And then every time Eli tries these maneuvers, he's trying the same lines to pass lap after lap.
10:11Hunter's learning from that.
10:12So he's learning.
10:13And, you know, James, you've spent so much time in the series talking about where you need to defend, where you really need to push, and where passes are possible.
10:19Hunter is riding those down mentally every single lap.
10:22And he's like, okay, right here he's going to try a pass.
10:24I have to really step up my game.
10:26Yeah, absolutely.
10:28And through here.
10:29Yeah, Eli, maybe you can get Hunter to make a mistake.
10:31But, again, as JT mentioned, once you get that rider beside you, you know you just got to beat him to that next apex of the corner.
10:38So then you start relaxing, and Hunter's doing that.
10:41And these guys are so good.
10:42You only get a few opportunities to show your cars.
10:45Otherwise, they know where you're going.
10:47Hunter's doing a fantastic job at blocking Eli.
10:49It's starting to frustrate him, you can tell.
10:51Now, the second half of that lap, Tomac was a little bit closer than he had been because he was almost making the pass on the front half.
10:59Let's see.
10:59He's a little closer now than he was last time.
11:02Yeah, Eli knows he needs to be closed up in this section because Hunter can't block the whole racetrack.
11:08There's parts where JT was mentioning where it opens up, and you can't block it.
11:11You're going to have to raise, and I do believe that's where Eli really starts to push.
11:15As right here, he gets really aggressive, but he's lost a little bit of time to Hunter.
11:20Let's see if he pushes going down this hill to just get back up close to him.
11:23Yeah, this is a new corner here, this right, to get back up before they just stayed up top by that Thunder Valley sign the whole time.
11:30Tomac's going to try to use this new corner to his advantage.
11:35Dropping back down.
11:36Yeah, these runs makes it so difficult.
11:40You almost, if you're Eli, see Hunter goes on that outside because he knows it's better now.
11:45It's completely different.
11:47They took each other's lines.
11:48Yeah, that's just because Hunter knew that outside was working.
11:51He couldn't fit Eli off too much.
11:53Now they're switching it up.
11:55But I do have some news, though, on Tomac.
11:57He actually was the fastest rider on the track the last time around.
12:00They've closed the gap to the leaders.
12:02And now Tomac looking to make the pass on Hunter Lawrence.
12:05Ah, you better close him off.
12:07Game of chicken right here.
12:09Here we go.
12:10This ain't over yet.
12:12Watch, Hunter's going to hit this tabletop.
12:14There you go, and he's going to keep it smooth.
12:16Ah, you saw that in the previous laps, jumping that downhill.
12:19Yeah, that little bit of time, that's what his brother does.
12:22And, man, Eli, he had him.
12:24And, look, they closed up on Aaron Klessinger.
12:25So, yeah, as you just mentioned, Eli has been fast,
12:27and he's starting to push the 96 up towards those guys.
12:30And Jett Lawrence is still right there.
12:32So, oh, yeah, he's still in sight for sure.
12:35And, yeah, because Hunter's trying to fend off Tomac,
12:37he has gotten back to the rear fender of Klessinger.
12:41Yeah, as I mentioned earlier with Eli, he's an emotional rider.
12:44The good thing for him is that Jett Lawrence isn't getting away.
12:47Otherwise, it's going to be really frustrating
12:48as Hunter Lawrence tries to go up the inside.
12:51How about this?
12:52JT.
12:53Well, yeah, that's a great example here
12:56of Tomac's pace pushing Hunter forward into AP.
12:59Really, Hunter's urgency level just got raised.
13:01You see him make the move there.
13:03That was all force from Eli Tomac pushing Hunter Lawrence forward.
13:06And I was just thinking about Tomac, how angry he has to be.
13:09James, you know that emoji where you have the head exploding?
13:12That's probably Eli Tomac back there
13:14because he wants to go chase down that 18,
13:16and he simply cannot get in the second place to do it.
13:18Yeah, his head is definitely exploding,
13:21and it would have probably been blown off by now,
13:23but the 18 is still right there.
13:25So as quickly as Hunter Lawrence was,
13:26Eli was all over Hunter Lawrence.
13:28Hunter Lawrence is closing in on his brother,
13:30so that gives Eli at least keep his head on his shoulder at the moment.
13:34Bottom box there, James.
13:35That is Cooper Webb and Jorge Prado battling it out seventh and eighth,
13:39similar to where they were battling a week ago.
13:41Totally different track conditions and everything,
13:43and they've just resumed some of these fights.
13:46They've been close in a lot of the motos this year.
13:48That's the bottom.
13:49Up top, Plessinger and Tomac trying to hang with the Lawrences.
13:54Yeah, actually, Jorge was able to get around Cooper Webb,
13:56so he made a position.
13:58So a nice start by him.
13:59A little surprised looking at the lap times that Justin Cooper lost so much time.
14:04Him and RJ, they're 11 and 12 seconds upon Jet Lawrence,
14:06so being your fastest qualifier as much as how fast he was,
14:10a little surprising.
14:11Yeah, we thought maybe a moto wing could be in the cards.
14:13for Jake Coop today, but he is now a distant sixth.
14:17And the more things change, the more they stay the same,
14:19it's back to the Lawrences.
14:21One, two, and look at the gap that Hunter now has,
14:24and he's closing on Jet.
14:27Yeah, he's closing on Jet, and Eli definitely has lost that toe,
14:31so you have to regroup.
14:36Look at the times the last two laps around.
14:39It was really the last two that were much better for Hunter,
14:42and you can see the difference now.
14:44He's right there.
14:45Yeah, and you've got to remember, Hunter got his first win here last year as well,
14:48so he got a moto win in there,
14:50so it might be a lot of motivation to get a little brother-on-brother crime
14:54if need be, JT.
14:56Yeah, James, just watching Hunter's increased pace here,
14:59do you think he was able to lower his lap times here
15:01simply because he learned where Eli was going behind him?
15:05Like, is there something to it, or do you think he raised the intensity
15:07because of Eli's pace?
15:09Yeah, I think a little bit of both.
15:11I think Aaron made a mistake because, as you can see, Aaron's dropped off.
15:14I think Hunter, obviously, with Eli pushing him,
15:16just pushed him up on the back of Aaron Plessinger,
15:18but as quickly as Hunter got there, he lost the toe with his brother,
15:21so I almost felt like Jett was in that relaxed mode.
15:25He was thinking Aaron was behind him and allowed all these guys to go,
15:27so I'm going to be curious to see if Hunter can continue that pace
15:30to give him a little bit of confidence,
15:33but I do believe that Eli was pushing the pace, as you mentioned earlier.
15:36Now halfway through this 30-minute and two-lap moto.
15:39A reminder, Monster Energy available now at Maverick.
15:43Tomac thinks third place might be available now.
15:47He's right there at Plessinger.
15:51Just showed you how important a start is because, I mean,
15:57Eli started top five, and he's in fourth place, you know,
16:00so he can't get around these guys.
16:03And is Eli telling himself,
16:04if I had been able to close the door on Hunter,
16:06I'd be right there where he is right now?
16:08I think, I don't know what Eli's telling himself.
16:11He's probably yelling at himself, but at the same time,
16:15Jet Lawrence is only five seconds up in front of him,
16:17so as much as things have been maybe going not according to plan,
16:21if you Eli Tomac, we still know Beast Mode is in there.
16:24This race ain't over yet.
16:26Yeah, through all this battling and even some passes,
16:29the gap from first to fourth has stayed about identical the whole way.
16:32It's either been five to five and a half seconds.
16:35Right now it's 5.4.
16:38Ken Tomac rally.
16:39Yeah, looking at this race track,
16:43it almost feels like when you catch a guy,
16:45you drop back, almost get him to relax,
16:48and then you blitz him,
16:49meaning like in these certain parts where we saw Eli,
16:52once you get close to him, you got to pass him instantly,
16:54but otherwise you kind of just let him be,
16:57make sure you just stay close and be patient until you're able to pass,
16:59and I think maybe that's what we're about to start to see with Eli,
17:01because clearly he's faster.
17:05I do believe he's faster than a lot of these guys,
17:07maybe outside of jet.
17:10Not quite able to make it happen at the moment.
17:16Hey folks, Super Motocross playoffs coming in September,
17:19two full days of fun.
17:21You want to be there Friday and Saturday
17:22when history gets made in Concord, St. Louis,
17:26and especially the World Championship finale in Las Vegas.
17:29Let's go to SuperMotocross.com.
17:32And here it comes, second half of the race.
17:35Ked, the Colorado native, start to close.
17:39And up front, speaking of closing,
17:41I believe Hunter is right on the rear wheel of jet.
17:44You see the pylon left side of the screen, only .8.
17:48Look how close it is now.
17:49Yeah, and believe it or not,
17:51that actually gives some motivation,
17:53if you're Eli Tomac, to be able to see that.
17:55So you know you're all over Hunter,
17:57so hopefully maybe you can just regroup
17:59and maybe pull these guys back up, JT.
18:02Like, you know, we're kind of in the middle of the moto here, James,
18:05and it's really important for the riders to kind of stay engaged,
18:08and they rely on the mechanics to give them some messaging,
18:11whether it's lap times, sometimes it's motivation,
18:13sometimes it's reminders of breathing
18:15when we're at elevation like this.
18:17That time around, Jet Lawrence's mechanic, Christian Ducharme,
18:19told him to hit his marks.
18:21And that's a road racing term,
18:22but how it relates to moto is just walk into what you're doing,
18:25and pick the good lines and just execute your game plan.
18:29Eli Tomac's side, a lot of intensity,
18:32trying to get him fired up to make a charge.
18:34It's just interesting.
18:35They're all within five seconds of each other,
18:37but the messaging couldn't be much more different.
18:40But, James, would you say that Jet Lawrence is hitting his marks right now,
18:43a couple of mistakes that we just saw?
18:45No, absolutely not.
18:45I was just going to say that.
18:47What Christian's talking about is what we saw with Jet Lawrence in that corner,
18:50how he slammed into it, he's not that smooth, patient,
18:54and we looked at each other off camera like, man,
18:56he's starting to make some mistakes, and he's got to see that.
18:58So, as I said, as Hunter Lawrence brings this battle back in there,
19:02I think that's going to motivate Eli to come up,
19:04and that's where Eli's mechanics hit.
19:06Like, intensity, this race isn't done yet,
19:08because it'll be really easy for Eli to start going the other way emotionally
19:12because you're frustrated,
19:13and then Jet Lawrence's mechanic is like,
19:15look, you better hit your marks because you're bringing the whole field back in this.
19:18because you don't want that door open, champ.
19:21Now, last year, the brothers split the motos,
19:24a 1-2 for Hunter, a 2-1 for Jet,
19:26but Jet was coming off the back of a huge crash the previous week in Hangtown
19:31and was really gutting it out.
19:32Now both are healthy, and they're putting on quite a battle.
19:36Yeah, and what you're witnessing here,
19:38I think when Jet's able to get her away,
19:40it's what Christian has said.
19:42He hit his marks.
19:43He didn't make a mistake in the corner, in some of these corners,
19:46and it's really easy to do at this racetrack,
19:47so if you're uncomfortable, if you have any bike set-ups,
19:51if it's too stiff or you maybe have arm pump,
19:53this track's going to exacerbate that a lot
19:55because it's going to bring it out.
19:56It's going to be difficult for these guys,
19:58and got 10 minutes left to ride this thing out.
20:01And this continuation of the Prado and Webb battle continues.
20:06Prado, the two-time MXGP World Motocross champion moving to America,
20:10and the new champion of Monster Energy Supercross,
20:13they're back in seventh and eighth.
20:14It's the bottom box, and just an example of how deep that field is
20:18in the 450 division this season.
20:21JT, what are you thinking on the 70 of Prado?
20:24Well, I'm thinking I don't really know what I'm seeing here
20:27because, honestly, Prado, I've been watching him for years,
20:30and it's just been excellence across the board.
20:32Winning is really all he's ever done.
20:34He's been in the fight every single time.
20:36And, guys, we're 20 minutes in,
20:38and he sits 44 seconds down almost to the leaders.
20:41Like, I just keep waiting for the arrival of Jorge Prado,
20:46and we're just not seeing it.
20:47I'm sure he's frustrated.
20:48I'm sure the team is trying to alleviate that concern for him.
20:51But, man, it has to be a little disappointing, I think, at this point so far.
20:56And, JT, no doubt you mentioned the team there.
20:58They're working.
20:59They're all working, and they're trying to give Jorge what he needs.
21:02And I was chatting to him earlier on this morning,
21:04and he said, honestly, I feel like I'm cruising out there right now.
21:07He's like, I know I'm not able to push.
21:09I'm not in that position yet.
21:10And I asked him, what do you want to work on with yourself?
21:12Let's take the bike aside.
21:13He said, honestly, I can't get there yet.
21:15Because until I've got the motorcycle a little bit more where I need it,
21:18I don't know where the gaps are.
21:20So they're just kind of in this process, as you put it right now,
21:23and, you know, making small gains.
21:25So, yes, he's not where he wants him right now.
21:27But as we said at the top of the show there,
21:29there's kind of hope that this would just be moving in the right direction.
21:33Yeah, and further on Will's point,
21:35I mean, that's what he's going to have to do.
21:37Because at this point, you know, you're in no man's land.
21:40I mean, for him, top ten, you'd be like, okay, how the season started.
21:44This is a great ride.
21:44But when you start looking at lap times, the top sixes are, you know,
21:48six guys are running two 14s.
21:50Jorge's running two 18s and even slower than that.
21:53So no matter if he finishes second, he's going to go back and look at the gap,
21:57and that's almost going to make it even harder for him
21:59because he's like, I'm so far off from these guys.
22:03How can I make that time up?
22:04But if anybody can do it, it's this guy.
22:06He's got the talent.
22:07He's got the team.
22:08They just got to stick with it, and, you know, he'll get there.
22:12Give it up there to the running order of the Monster Energy Riders out there.
22:16You've got Tomac fourth, Justin Cooper sixth, Prado,
22:18who you're watching right now, seventh.
22:20Webb right behind him in eighth.
22:22Jason Anderson, that's Prado's Monster Kawasaki teammate, 12th.
22:26Yeah, I talked to Dan Fahey, the team manager for Kawasaki this morning,
22:31and he said they are making forward progress.
22:33Maybe not as much as they want, but at least they know they're gaining
22:37and not taking steps backwards as they experiment.
22:41But the overall result here looks just like what we have seen
22:46in the previous couple of rounds, battling it out with Webb in seventh.
22:51We talked to Prado yesterday about trying to make some gains this season.
22:56and overall, like, my feeling with the bike, so suspension-wise and stuff like that.
23:02So it was needed, and after round one and round two,
23:06we already got a direction to where to work on,
23:09and I think we are following those indications very good.
23:12And, yeah, I think this week we did a lot of steps.
23:15So, yeah, we are just building.
23:19Yeah, and he's going to have to,
23:20and I think he's been put in a really difficult position
23:24because not only is he switching new teams,
23:26he switched countries for going back to the battle for the lead,
23:30you know, there's a lot of changes that's happening for him,
23:33and also he was hurt.
23:35So he hasn't been having that race pace,
23:36but one guy who has the race pace is the 96,
23:39and he's brought Aaron Plessinger,
23:41and you look, there's Eli Tomac still in that last one.
23:44Eli was the fastest guy on the racetrack that last lap.
23:46These guys are here.
23:47Yeah, 213.6 for Tomac, 213.7 for Jet Lawrence,
23:52214s for Hunter,
23:55and 214 for Plessinger.
23:58So that is the one thing.
23:59Tomac has managed to stay at least somewhat within viewing distance.
24:03five minutes and two laps to go.
24:06Yeah, and when you start thinking about this race,
24:10Jet Lawrence really could have broke this thing
24:12and almost put this race away if he was able to get away,
24:15but he hasn't.
24:15So, JT.
24:17Well, just, you know,
24:18thinking about Hunter and the way this racetrack is shaped up,
24:20Hunter's not a rider that likes to take a lot of chances.
24:23He's the ultimate tactician,
24:24the ultimate strategist,
24:25and he's like a velociraptor.
24:27You look at him,
24:27and he's kind of trying to figure you out all the time.
24:30That's just how he approaches life.
24:31That's how he's approaching this moto.
24:33So you think about the way this racetrack is so slow.
24:36You have to be super methodical and pick your way around it.
24:38It really seems like it's setting up for Hunter,
24:40even though he's making a run right here.
24:42Yeah, the Cowboys just getting loose here,
24:43and he's about to reclaim second place.
24:46Red Bull KTM moving up a spot,
24:48breaking up the Honda party.
24:49Yeah, I mean, as I was just saying,
24:52Jet really had the opportunity a couple laps ago
24:54to really break this race
24:56because I think Eli was on the brink of kind of letting it go
24:59as we were watching my brother having a tough one.
25:01He looked like he just got up.
25:02Maybe somebody else is down as well.
25:04What is going on with Plessinger, James?
25:06He's right there with Jet Lawrence,
25:08and he wants the lead.
25:10Yeah, Jet's laboring a little bit.
25:11I think he's either struggling with arm pump,
25:13and I was going to mention when Hunter was behind him,
25:15if anybody knows what's going on,
25:17it's him because he's riding with his brother all day long,
25:19so he knows something's not right by Jet
25:21with his body language.
25:22And the number seven's here to play.
25:24He wants some action.
25:25Eli who?
25:26It's about number seven.
25:27Oh, he's popular everywhere we go.
25:29Listen to this.
25:33Eight times he has finished second in Emoto
25:36in the 450 class.
25:37Has not won yet.
25:39Is this the time?
25:42Yeah, they're going to have to switch their lines up.
25:44You saw Hunter Lawrence and Jet Lawrence hit that tail top,
25:46and what it's allowed them to do
25:47is just really just be smooth,
25:49and you can see that gap.
25:50But everywhere else it seems like Aaron
25:51and these guys are able to close back on Jet Lawrence.
25:54I think Jet's really starting to struggle,
25:57and there's going to be some parts of this racetrack
25:59that he's going to have to push,
26:00and let's see if he can.
26:01Otherwise, Aaron Flesinger is going to get around
26:03like he just did Hunter Lawrence.
26:04Now, this is, if you look at the left side of the screen,
26:06a dubious honor for Flesinger.
26:08Of all the riders who have won the 250 motocross title,
26:11he has the most 450 starts without a moto win,
26:15but he could be a few minutes away from leaving that list
26:20if he can make this pass.
26:25He's getting so much confidence from all these guys
26:27who's been able to stay there.
26:29And again, you think about early in the race,
26:32if Eli could have got around Hunter Lawrence,
26:33how different it would have been for him.
26:35But he's still in this race.
26:36But I will say this.
26:39How many times,
26:39even especially dating back to his 250 days,
26:42have we seen riders get to the rear fender of Jet Lawrence?
26:45It looks like it's going to happen,
26:47and it doesn't happen.
26:49Yeah, but I think the difference is
26:50the riders that are doing it now,
26:52these guys haven't been there that close to them,
26:54and let alone this lake.
26:56You call the James,
26:57and now he's got the pass and the lead.
27:01I knew it.
27:02I could tell.
27:02There are certain parts of the racetrack
27:04that Jet's just kind of cruising around,
27:05almost like he's surviving,
27:07and he wouldn't be able to block that.
27:08Just what we saw last week,
27:10the last lap with Hunter Lawrence
27:12and Aaron Pleasanton getting around.
27:13But what a move.
27:14And let's see how much energy.
27:16It's going to tell you a lot
27:17on how Jet Lawrence is feeling.
27:18If he's able to get back around Aaron Pleasanton,
27:21he's in this race.
27:22Otherwise, he might just be trying to hold on.
27:27Oh, Jet trying to respond now.
27:31Yeah, Aaron's going to have to block this line right here.
27:33And he's going to have to be careful
27:35because Jet is jumping his little tabletop,
27:37and he'll go around the outside of him
27:38if Aaron doesn't block it.
27:40Yep, you've got to watch this downhill jump coming up.
27:44Aaron switched lines.
27:45What a move.
27:46And he jumped it.
27:47Yeah.
27:49Was he jumping that the whole motor,
27:50or did he just figure that out?
27:51No, I think what he was doing
27:53was going in that line
27:54to block Jet Lawrence from jumping in.
27:56He was like,
27:57I'm here now.
27:58I might as well jump it myself.
27:59And Jet moving back up.
28:01Side by side.
28:06Pletsinger's got to run the outside
28:07as fast as he can.
28:08Got to lean on him, son.
28:10No!
28:10Jet able to get him back.
28:14Almost had the door shut.
28:17Lawrence able to reclaim it.
28:18Oh, look at those runs.
28:19Look how deep it is.
28:21But he's holding it on.
28:22Feet off the pegs.
28:24Held it wide.
28:24And then meanwhile, Hunter Lawrence
28:27and Tomek going on it.
28:28See it in the bottom box.
28:30Yeah, this is super impressive
28:31by Jet Lawrence.
28:32Because, I mean, one,
28:33he hasn't had this kind of pressure
28:34towards the end of this race.
28:35To be passed.
28:36Nobody ever passes a kid.
28:38But to be able to respond
28:39should tell you enough
28:40on why this guy is a champion
28:41and why this guy is leading the point.
28:44But his lines right here,
28:45that outside is pretty slow,
28:47which is allowing Aaron Plesser
28:48to get back up on him.
28:50Let's see if Aaron can blitz it.
28:51Going down this hill
28:52and make that pass again.
28:53Or Jet's going to switch it up
28:54for himself.
28:55And Plessinger,
28:56the son of AMA Hall of Famer
28:58Scott Plessinger,
28:59an off-road racer,
29:00great in the mud,
29:00always says he loves the ruts.
29:02He loves the slower,
29:04more difficult tracks.
29:05He's got those conditions.
29:07This is where he made the move before.
29:08Not quite close enough.
29:09No, Jet changed his line.
29:11And as these guys,
29:13you're showing them a car,
29:14so they're going to change it up.
29:16And that was a heads-up move
29:17by Jet Lawrence to switch it up, JT.
29:20It was.
29:20And you ever wonder
29:21if these guys are just
29:22turning their brain off
29:23and holding a wide open wall?
29:24I think that was proof
29:25that there's so much thinking going on.
29:27And they really have to stay aware
29:29of the changing lines
29:30because had Jet gone to that outside again,
29:32AP will pass him right back.
29:33And the same thing holds true.
29:35AP switched lines
29:36in that tabletop section.
29:37So they're really trying to game each other out
29:39and figure out where they go.
29:40Now, watch Jet here.
29:41He's trying to make a break, James.
29:43He's trying to respond
29:44and make a break and end it right here.
29:45Yeah, yeah, he is.
29:46And he had an opportunity
29:47to do this early in the race,
29:48but he wasn't able to.
29:49So I just think it's impressive
29:51for him to regroup
29:53and get back around these guys.
29:55And JT, that's an excellent point.
29:57These guys are racing for it,
29:58but they're also racing the guy
29:59and line selection behind them.
30:01Really cool to watch these guys go at it.
30:06Going to be two to go next time around.
30:09Yeah, Aaron cannot let this gap
30:14stretch out anymore,
30:16especially with these lap routers.
30:17If Jet passes one,
30:18you got to get around them.
30:20This is your opportunity.
30:21Jet's going to be stuck behind these guys.
30:22There's two of them,
30:23so they're probably not going to follow each other.
30:25They don't split it up.
30:26So Jet's going to be in the spot.
30:27There you go.
30:28Yeah, these riders are battling each other.
30:31Last time around,
30:32they dropped it back into the 212s.
30:34Jet's on the outside.
30:35Woo, that bike was kicking.
30:36Oh, yeah.
30:37And they cleared him.
30:39Derek Kelly, they got around him.
30:40But he's going to be stuck again behind these guys.
30:42You hear Jet revving up that motorcycle.
30:44And when you got two of them
30:45with all these ruts,
30:46these guys want to get out of the way,
30:47but they can't,
30:48which allowed Aaron Flesinger
30:49to run back up in this thing.
30:52Oh, it's wheel-to-wheel uphill.
30:54Now, let's see if Jet goes inside right here.
30:56He's been going outside.
30:58Goes back inside.
31:00I mean, outside now allows him.
31:01And I like the Aaron's line.
31:03He had to switch it up on his time.
31:05Oh, he was beautiful.
31:05On the inside.
31:07And now outside.
31:08And now side-by-side.
31:11All right.
31:11Now, if Aaron just stays on his normal line
31:13and Jet doesn't switch,
31:14he usually ends up faster.
31:16Because Jet's going to have to slow down right here.
31:17Aaron should be able to get around him.
31:19Oh, I like it.
31:21Now, Aaron changes it up.
31:22He's on the outside.
31:24That's because Jet got on the gas
31:26and cross-rutted him to block that.
31:29That was a heads-up ride.
31:30Love it.
31:31And Hunter Lawrence still in this fight as well.
31:33A lot, but a half to go.
31:36A fantastic first moto here in Colorado.
31:41Yeah, you start to wonder,
31:42did Aaron show his line?
31:44Does he have another opportunity to pass another place?
31:47I do believe he does,
31:48but he's got to be close to him.
31:51Jet got more traffic.
31:52Yeah.
31:55That's Mitchell Harrison there, 19th place.
31:57Jet gets him.
32:06White flag coming up.
32:09Oh, I see Jet's got his lines back.
32:11Now watch, see if he pulls that gap.
32:16And as a rider, you know,
32:18like, if I'm Jet Lawrence,
32:19I'm like, look, let me execute this next half a lap.
32:22If I can do that,
32:23then I can be calm on this last lap.
32:25But I just got to execute it.
32:27So you're probably going to see Jet
32:28try to be mistake-free,
32:29get around these guys,
32:31maybe try to put this race away
32:32and just survive that last lap.
32:34And now they're lapping well
32:35into the riders in the points.
32:38So these guys are in their own battles,
32:40and they matter.
32:41Let's go around.
32:46Tomek still lurking in fourth.
32:50But you see the red fender,
32:51Hunter Lawrence,
32:52not out of the picture yet from third.
32:54Yeah, I mean, good ride by all these guys.
32:56They dropped it down to 212, 214s,
32:59and it seems like they have that tug of war.
33:02But as I mentioned,
33:03Jet was able to execute
33:05that last quarter part of the track
33:06and look at the gap
33:07because he knows he's not as fast as Aaron
33:09in this other section,
33:10but because he was able to execute that part,
33:13now he has a gap.
33:14Just needs to manage this thing.
33:16And Plessinger took a look back
33:18to measure his gap to Hunter Lawrence.
33:21Then Jet had feet off the pegs in that corner.
33:24Both able to recover.
33:26Last lap now.
33:28Yeah, I think that look back
33:30was a sign from Aaron
33:31because of Jet was able to execute
33:32that last quarter part.
33:34Now he's still worried about Hunter Lawrence.
33:36And so all that was dictated by the 18.
33:39Get back around these guys.
33:40All the confidence
33:41that Aaron Plessinger had,
33:42Eli Tomac,
33:43they were able to get around him.
33:45And this kid was still able
33:46to find a way to get back in front.
33:48And if he's able to hold on to this race,
33:50man, this is going to be huge
33:51for Jet Lawrence moving forward.
33:54And the lap traffic really hurting Tomac,
33:56who is now eight seconds back.
33:57He was lurking about 3.3 off
33:59from most of the second half of this one.
34:02A little bit different way
34:04for Jet Lawrence to do it.
34:06We've seen him get the start.
34:06We've seen him lead all the laps.
34:08Rarely does someone get him.
34:11This time Plessinger did.
34:12No, and it was.
34:13They all had him.
34:14I mean, his brother almost had him
34:15at the point.
34:16Eli at some point was there
34:17if he was able to get around him.
34:18But no matter what,
34:19they can keep trying.
34:20But this guy answers the bell.
34:22And it's just a different way
34:23than we've seen him be able to do it.
34:25And when you can win
34:26multiple different ways.
34:26Oh, no!
34:27Hunter has gone down
34:28to the last lap from third.
34:30He's messing with his throttle.
34:33Might have broke his throttle
34:34by the way he went down
34:35or he's trying to fix it.
34:36Looks like at that section
34:37where me and Eli
34:38went down together
34:39different years.
34:42Wow!
34:42Well, let's see where he ends up.
34:44They had a big gap
34:45over Justin Cooper
34:46who was fifth.
34:47So I think he might
34:47still hold on for fourth.
34:51Well, just like we said
34:52at the top of the show,
34:53the scoreboard continues
