00:00Time to lock in boys, heart rate's up, revs up, gates down.
00:18Shed Lawrence, another good start, there's Aaron Plessinger, and guess who's with him?
00:23Hunter Lawrence right there, it's a 1-2 for the Hondas again.
00:26No surprise, and I thought Chase Sexton was a little bit farther up, but the problem is, just like they do at home, these boys, they get out front, and man, they bend deadly when they do that, a tandem.
00:39Prado, I believe, fourth, fifth hole shot of the year for the 18. There is Prado in that fourth-place spot.
00:48Now they put a little bit of water down to keep some of this dust, and because this track is hard.
00:52Oh, no! Jet goes down very similar to last moto at Red Bud.
00:57As I was just saying, the guy's going to have to be very careful, and really, towards Chase Sexton, it's going to be hard to be able to push up, but a huge mistake by Jet Lawrence.
01:06Actually, simple mistake, but costly.
01:09The last time he was here, he was in this position last weekend, so he should have felt pretty confident, but this is a whole different day,
01:14and because the track is drier, fast, it's not that hot, these guys got to be very intense in the first part of his race.
01:21That's Bryce Shelley in 14th place, so Jet is 15th, first to 15th, just like that.
01:32Right about where he was a week ago, he was able to still win that moto.
01:35Yeah, you can see they put that water down, and it's going to be slippery, and I was just mentioning that.
01:42Then he loses the front end, so Jet's got to be careful as well.
01:45I mean, the track's still going to be slippery.
01:46He's going to have to take a couple laps, and it's an easy mistake to happen, but costly one,
01:52and one that we usually don't see by the 18, especially when he's out front.
01:55Honestly, it was very similar to last week.
01:57The difference was last week was a left-hander.
02:00This one was a right.
02:02There's Eli Tomac.
02:04Again, the Yamahas are white this week in the 70th anniversary colors, right behind Prado.
02:09So not only did Sexton get a reprieve here, several others that would like to upset Jet Lawrence.
02:17Tomac, Prado, Hunter Lawrence, Plessinger, pretty much all the fast guys, Hampshire are up front.
02:23Yeah, you can see Jorge losing their rear end right there, and it just showed you how slippery this racetrack is,
02:28and especially coming into this section where we saw Seth Hamaker go down in that 250 class.
02:32But the only difference between now this year and last year, last weekend for Jet,
02:37all the guys were still behind him once he got back up.
02:40Eli had a bad start.
02:42This time they are in front of him.
02:43But, yeah, you can see him going through these sand rollers.
02:45Looks like he decides to go on the outside right here.
02:47It goes in between those jumps, and he just loses the front end right there.
02:51Simple fall, but...
02:53Crossy one, and this is Tony Corolli getting caught up.
02:56This is what happens when you don't get a good start.
02:58Gets bunched up.
02:59Looks like he's got a little help there, and, yeah, everybody's trying to funnel for that one line.
03:06You hate to see that.
03:07Corolli getting the Ducati on the track in Pro Motocross for the first time,
03:11the nine-time MXGP champion JT.
03:14You see Marshall Welton there turn around.
03:17Somebody was stuck underneath their motorcycle there.
03:19Marshall Welton actually did a U-turn, went back to try to lift the motorcycle off of somebody.
03:23So you love to see that type of sportsmanship amongst these guys in the middle of the race.
03:26Yeah, it's good.
03:27Yeah, go ahead, Jake.
03:28Yeah, I believe that was Tony right there that was stuck under the bike.
03:31So I was wondering, did something happen?
03:33Because he was down there a long time.
03:34So, yes, good sportsmanship.
03:36But now, Eli Tomac, seeing that Jet Lawrence going down, I don't know if he was able to get around Chase Sexton,
03:44but Eli's starting to move forward.
03:46And this is what we want to see.
03:47We know how this guy is.
03:48He gets that motivation and the excitement.
03:51Man, you see him running these outside.
03:53It's good to see that happens.
03:55In front of number three, JT.
03:56Yeah, Eli Tomac looks fantastic here.
04:00And you just want to see that intensity that's been missing the last couple of rounds.
04:04He gets around Jorge Prado here.
04:06He needs to get to the rear of Hunter Lawrence.
04:08You don't want anything to disrupt the forward movement that we have not seen the last couple of rounds.
04:13Yeah, in those last couple of rounds, JT, a lot of that has to do with that engine,
04:16the conversation that we were having at Red Bud last week, what was going on with it.
04:19I talked to the team, and they said, actually, the engine just got hot.
04:23They went through a lot of fuel.
04:24They changed the engine for all three of those Yamahas on that last weekend just to make sure to safeguard everything.
04:30But you guys know this.
04:31Eli has been known to get the bike really high.
04:34He uses the clutch a lot.
04:35And so that was something that the team was keeping an eye on, especially under these really hot conditions.
04:41Thank you, Katie.
04:42Now the number one of Sexton putting the press on Prado.
04:46Yeah, Chase wanted to go up the inside and talking to Chase this weekend.
04:50He said his thing, Chris, goal is not to get ahead of himself.
04:53So what we're seeing is exactly what he told me.
04:57He's not going to try to push it.
04:58He doesn't want to go down.
04:59He knows he's out of the championship.
05:01He wants to build, and he can't beat Jett if he's on the ground.
05:04But that being said, it's going to take him a little bit longer to get going.
05:08And right now, he's starting to lose that time to Eli Tomac, and Jett Lawrence is catching him up as well.
05:13So Sexton almost went down, but still is going to try to make the pass on the downhill.
05:19Not enough.
05:20Yeah, and what you can't see on the camera angle, that actually corner goes back where he almost went down.
05:25They actually start going back towards the start.
05:27So it looked like Chase could just drop down straight, but they're turning still.
05:30So that's why he wasn't able to get it.
05:32And Lawrence has made up a ton of ground.
05:35Now, bottom box, you can see Sexton, Halfshire, Prado are right in front of him.
05:40Yeah, I mean, I understand what Chase is doing.
05:44You know, it's smart, especially when you're not in a title.
05:47But you're making it difficult because you see Eli Tomac, he knows that sense of urgency.
05:52He doesn't want to see that 18.
05:54Now Chase makes the pass, but the damage is done.
05:56He's got to run down Eli Tomac.
05:58Hunter Lawrence is ahead of him, six seconds.
06:00And Jett Lawrence is only two seconds behind him, a few seconds.
06:03And Prado gave Sexton all he could handle, trying to get him back, couldn't get it done.
06:07There's Halfshire.
06:08There is Jett Lawrence.
06:10And Halfshire shoots by.
06:12It's frustrating for Jorge.
06:14You know, these guys are starting to go.
06:16Good start.
06:17Things are happening really quick.
06:18Now, I believe if I'm Jett Lawrence and knowing how good Chase Sexton is, I'm worried about my brother, of course, being out front.
06:25And, of course, with Eli Tomac, we know how he is.
06:27But I think the real person that I'd be worried about is Chase Sexton.
06:31So to be able to close in and see him in front of me, I still feel pretty calm at what this race is.
06:35If I can get him, then I know I can continue moving forward.
06:38But I don't want to see that number one out front.
06:41He's going to make short worker Jorge right here.
06:43And he does.
06:47Lawrence looks over, makes the pass.
06:49So Lawrence is now up to seventh.
06:53Katie.
06:54At the number 18, I was talking to the team about it, Christian Ducharme, his mechanic.
06:58And I was asking about when he goes down, how different of a rider is he?
07:02And Christian was saying they have seen such a difference in him as a rider within these last two years.
07:06In former years, when Jett would go down and had to play catch-up, he'd go more into, like, the panic mode style.
07:12Now his head's on a lot straighter.
07:14He's been working on his mental strength.
07:16And you can see that in his riding.
07:17He's more cool, calm, and collected.
07:19And he's riding his own race.
07:22You talked about that last week, James, not turning one mistake into two.
07:26Yeah, and it comes with age.
07:28I mean, even the year, the last year of the 250 class, we saw that same thing happen, the Jett.
07:33And it was one of those situations where kind of what we saw with Hayden Deegan last week.
07:37We were shocked because he normally doesn't do that.
07:39But, you know, I think when you just win everything, you know eventually, if it keeps happening, you're eventually going to get up there.
07:46So you've got to be up, JT.
07:48Yeah, and I think it just comes down to just trusting the map.
07:51You know if you can turn in your best laps, you know what you're capable of.
07:54And you have, what, I don't know, 13, 14 laps to work with if you're crashing the first lap, just do the math.
08:00If you're, you know, 20 seconds down, it's doable when Jett's flat out.
08:05And he was only down maybe 12.
08:06So he's got a long way to go to catch his brother.
08:09He's only made up a second or two big picture.
08:11But I think for Jett, staying calm is just learning to trust what he's truly capable of.
08:16Yeah, and JT, that's a great point.
08:18And I know when I was racing, when I was in this position, and you'll see Jett do this.
08:22And so a lot of the guys, when they're moving forward, they'll look up.
08:25You know, they'll hit the jump.
08:26They'll just look ahead.
08:27And he's not looking at Chase Sexton or RJ.
08:30He's looking at where Hunter is.
08:32And that allows him to trust that map, you know, that eventually he'll get here.
08:36Because I believe if he was losing time to Hunter, then, yeah, he might be in more of a desperation.
08:40But just checking the map, seeing where Hunter is.
08:42If he's not losing that time, then just trust the process.
08:45You'll get there.
08:47Tomac now closing on Plessinger.
08:49Tomac is still the only rider this year to have won a moto besides Jett Lawrence.
08:54As for Plessinger, how that illness last week, he was catching Hunter and Jett.
08:59And then he told me he put in two good laps, he got to them.
09:02And then all of a sudden, his energy was just gone.
09:04He was actually running a fever.
09:06Couldn't even race moto two.
09:07He said he thinks he will be better today.
09:11But hard to really know until you're pushing it in the motos.
09:13Yeah, but I can look at Aaron's body position right there.
09:16You can tell him when he went down that hill, something's not right.
09:19I mean, even when he was hitting those bumps, I saw his body collapsing.
09:21So I don't know if he's tight or maybe that illness is not there.
09:25But that's not the Aaron Plessinger that we normally see.
09:27He's holding on at the moment.
09:29Uh-oh.
09:30So Tomac is by.
09:32Here comes Sexton.
09:33And Jett Lawrence is on Sexton's rear fender.
09:36Yeah, Chase Sexton is going to get around Aaron if he doesn't figure it out.
09:45We're hearing it's, uh, Jett made up a second just in the whoops alone last time around.
09:51Sexton's got traffic on both sides.
09:53Yeah, it's a good position to be where Jett, because you're closing in on the number one.
09:57Chase is letting his race come to him.
09:59Aaron's.
09:59Look at this.
10:00He's two for one.
10:01Bogo special.
10:02Jett Lawrence around both KTNs.
10:06Yeah, that was a, that's tough for Chase, because where Aaron was, Aaron was kind of fading back, like I was saying.
10:12And he popped out of that run and pushed his teammate out.
10:14Jett snuck around.
10:15But that's just heads up rotting.
10:17He just knows what was going to happen before it happened.
10:20And he was able to go.
10:20Now you're going to watch him try to pull away.
10:22And I think he's going to do the same thing to Eli and try to go after his brother.
10:29Nine seconds.
10:30He'll have to make up to get to the lead.
10:31And here's the double pass.
10:33Now what's happening?
10:33He's scrubbed right here.
10:34Now Chase is in a weird spot.
10:36He goes on the outside.
10:37Now watch what happened to Aaron.
10:38Aaron's just going to fade out.
10:40Makes a little mistake.
10:41Chase should have went towards the inside.
10:42He should have known better.
10:43But that's Bogo lightning spell.
10:45It was prime day.
10:47Well, it's still prime day for Jett Lawrence, because you find it all the specials getting
10:50around this guy.
10:50And if Fismo don't catch up, he's going to happen to him as well.
10:55Sexton trying to hang with it.
10:57And here's the attack from Lawrence on towback.
11:00Now we saw this same scenario happen last weekend when Jett Lawrence went around Chase.
11:07Kind of the same faction really blew around him.
11:09Chase picked up the pace.
11:11I'm sure he probably realized that I don't want to have to deal with this.
11:14And he was able to stay with Jett.
11:15Look at this.
11:16Oh, Lawrence had so much speed.
11:17He almost went down.
11:19Yeah, that was the respect out of Eli.
11:22He wanted to go in, and he wasn't really sure if Eli saw him.
11:25And he kind of backed up and almost went down himself.
11:27But he still makes the pass.
11:30It's unbelievable.
11:34And you want to know how good a pace Hunter Lawrence is running.
11:36Jett Lawrence is catching and passing all these guys.
11:39And even though he's not losing time, he's not gaining on his brother out front.
11:42And it's still about nine seconds.
11:43Well, thanks, Jett.
11:44Just cut that to an eight now.
11:46Yeah, yeah.
11:47And Sexton now attacking Tomek for second and third.
11:50There's the leader.
11:52Hunter Lawrence hasn't won a moto since Bud's Creek last year.
11:57Now where Hunter is, it's a tough spot to be at because you know Jett is coming.
12:01And he has that pace.
12:03And it's going to be hard for Hunter to really pick up the pace because Jett's found the flow.
12:07So either Hunter's pace is good enough or he's going to be having a hard time trying to pick it up
12:12when you have no one to chase and you know the 18 is coming.
12:15Tomek and Sexton, third and fourth.
12:21What can you say about his charge, two motos in a row from Jett, but still a long way to go.
12:30Still has nearly 10 seconds to make up on Hunter.
12:33Hunter riding very well out front.
12:34And you've got to wonder how Eli feels about this because unlike Chase at this moment, Eli was fighting for this title.
12:43It's got to be demoralizing, especially after that.
12:45You can kind of see it in his body language, what he saw, how he was when he passed Aaron.
12:49This is not what you'd expect from Eli Tomek.
12:52He is backed up way down and Sexton goes by with ease.
12:55Yeah, you've got to believe that's all just mentally.
12:58It is hard for him to be in this spot because it's still too early to have any issues.
13:02I think this is a combination of what happened over the last few weeks, JT.
13:06I agree with you 100%, James.
13:07I echo that wholeheartedly.
13:09You think about both of these guys.
13:11You know, Sexton's dealing with a little bit better.
13:12He makes the pass, but for both of them, they felt like they were moving forward.
13:15They felt like they were trying to go chase down Hunter Lawrence, who's gotten away.
13:18And then Jett Lawrence comes out of nowhere and is absolutely checked out on this pack.
13:24They surely saw him on the ground in that first lap.
13:26To see somebody you saw on the ground 10 minutes before, blow past you and check out,
13:30is really hard to wrap your head around.
13:33Yeah, it is.
13:34And like you said, they saw him go down, and they saw what he did last weekend.
13:39So it is really frustrating.
13:41I think the only thing for Chase Sexton, like his whole mindset, again, as I mentioned earlier,
13:45he's trying to just let things come to him and not rushing it.
13:49So in his mind, he's probably trying to keep himself from chasing Jett in order of maybe making a mistake.
13:56I know it's going to be hard, but it's a little bit different where Eli Tomac.
13:59You saw when Jett went down, how aggressive Eli was.
14:02This is a whole different router right now.
14:04It's just frustrating for him.
14:05If he doesn't watch out, the number 24 is going to get around him as well.
14:09RJ Hampshire really putting it together piece by piece, week by week on this 450.
14:15in his first summer on this bike.
14:18And he got the podium in the first moto last week going after Tomac right now.
14:22There's an update on the riders wearing the Oakleys at Sexton 3rd, Tomac 4th, Hampshire Fitz's battle right now.
14:29And then just behind them, you also have Plessinger and Cooper, 6th and 7th.
14:33Justin Cooper again at that big crash in practice.
14:36And by the way, Cooper Webb, not here today, tore his meniscus.
14:42I know he's back home watching.
14:43And if Justin Cooper can finish in this 7th place spot, looking at a near tie for the point lead in the SMX standings.
14:51That's combining motocross and supercross together.
14:55Cooper Webb the leader right now, but out.
14:57Justin Cooper is right second.
14:58Yeah, if RJ can get up a little bit closer to Eli, I don't think Eli would fight him.
15:05You know, Eli's still a champion and he's still fast.
15:08So RJ is making a few mistakes as his track, as all these guys are.
15:12But I don't think if he gets to him, he'll be able to get around him because Eli's not happy right now.
15:16He's not out here to ride around in fourth place.
15:19He's trying to win.
15:20So I don't think he would fight RJ as much as RJ wants that position.
15:23Eli doesn't really care about that if he can't win the race.
15:27All right, past the 15-minute mark, halfway through.
15:30Reminder, Monster Energy available at Quick Trip.
15:34As Hebshar trying to keep Tomek in sight, look for passing room.
15:40And again, up front, Hunter Lawrence matching the pace of his brother.
15:46Chet still nine seconds down.
15:49Yeah, and then the last, the fastest rider on the track was Chase Sexton.
15:52You know, just only a few hundredths of a second over Jett Lawrence.
15:56They both was in the 57s and Hunter was in the last lap 57 as well.
16:00But Chase has figured out that pace.
16:04Katie?
16:05Yeah, we know that Hunter is looking for that illustrious overall win in the 450 class.
16:09They made some shock changes in between practices today and actually made another shock change here before Moto 1.
16:15They said they definitely swung a little too hard in the first go-around.
16:18So they're trying to level the bike back out and make him more comfortable.
16:21It obviously looks like it's paying off for him.
16:23You know, this is one of those times that Hunter Lawrence, his tenacity mixed with his calm, cool, collected self,
16:31the guy that kind of everybody looks up to, this is where it's paying off.
16:34And there's a lot of people out here crossing fingers.
16:36He finally is going to take home that first overall.
16:38Yeah.
16:39Thanks, Katie.
16:39As you watch Hampshire attacking Tomek again.
16:42Oh, Hampshire's up the inside.
16:44Not quite enough.
16:45I was going to mention last week when Jett went down, Hunter was asked about that, and Hampshire just made the pass again.
16:52Yeah, as I was just saying, I don't think Eli would fight him once he got up there.
16:56But you can tell how difficult this track is getting, especially entering the sand rollers.
17:02I like the 100 line just being a little bit slower going to the inside.
17:05Not that it was faster, but it was safer.
17:07And you can see RJ made a mistake that last lap, and all these guys are because the base is so hard.
17:11They're sliding into it.
17:13Good ride by RJ.
17:14Yeah, I thought he had the pass, and he didn't.
17:17I didn't think he'd get it right back, but he did.
17:20So Hampshire really becoming a player now after that moto podium last week.
17:25Starts have improved.
17:27Said he had a bad habit.
17:28He had developed with the start map of the bike where he was gassing it.
17:30The bike with the start map, you can explain what that is, doesn't want you to do that.
17:35It's said to be a perfect RPM.
17:37He was trying to override that, and it was messing up his starts.
17:40Clearly, he's gotten that fixed.
17:41He's been better the last two weeks, and now you're seeing the result.
17:45Yeah, no, I know exactly.
17:47Because when I was racing, I had the same thing, and I actually wouldn't run it
17:50because I like to be able to adjust the way the bike sounds and more RPM
17:54depending on the track sole and all that.
17:57So, yeah, if you're not used to riding it, it can affect you,
18:00and it's set up to do one thing, and that's what that bike's going to do.
18:04So if you don't allow it, it can mess your starts up.
18:06Yep.
18:07We've got Cody Schock back here on the 37.
18:09The Muckoff Club of X FXR Yamaha Schock's been right around that top ten
18:16with a couple of hole shots this year.
18:17We asked him about his goals back half of the season.
18:21Yes, absolutely.
18:23For me, I'd like to try to score more top tens, just keep adding that to my career
18:29and just keep climbing the ladder.
18:32And as long as I'm having fun throwing whips and just being Cody, I don't see why that would be an issue.
18:38So we just got to, you know, finish the races.
18:40That's pretty crucial.
18:42As we can see, last weekend at Red Bud, it was a lot on a lot of the teams.
18:48And unfortunately, we were one of them for the second moto.
18:52So scoring no points, second moto definitely hurt a little bit.
18:55But that's why we do this thing called racing.
18:58We've got to accept the lows and accept the highs and just keep moving forward.
19:03Well, he's doing that, James.
19:04He's caught Plessinger.
19:05He's dropped way off the pace.
19:07And then ahead of them is this battle.
19:08That's your boy, Malcolm Stewart.
19:12Barsha and then Prado.
19:13Yeah, well, you need to get that fishing pole and throw a hook.
19:16Hook around them.
19:17You know, they rod together.
19:19So you know how difficult Justin is.
19:22Oh, he's not easy to pass.
19:24Yeah.
19:25Out of all the people.
19:27Left to right, right to left.
19:29Well, you don't want to wake up the beast out here.
19:31There are certain people you ain't about that life.
19:33And Justin, he ain't about that life for my brother.
19:37He's too big for that.
19:38No, they've had their run-ins for sure.
19:40Right now they've been cool.
19:41Now they're riding and training together.
19:42Malcolm makes the pass on the Rockstar Husqvarna.
19:45It's the Rockstar Gaskos for Barsha.
19:48And I was talking to Barsha this morning.
19:49I say, hey, coming back from a knee injury,
19:51I feel like you're doing really well.
19:53And he had to tell himself that.
19:55He said he put too much pressure on himself
19:57at Southwick in the comeback.
20:00And he's had to step back and remind himself
20:02to just build every week.
20:04He knows where he wants to be.
20:05He's got goals.
20:06Trying to let it come to him here on the 51.
20:09Yeah, I mean, anytime you go to a place
20:10where you have success,
20:11no matter if you're coming off an injury,
20:13you want to get out there and have it.
20:15So, yeah, Justin had to tell himself that.
20:17You can see my brother losing the rear end.
20:19You know, talking to him.
20:20I know they've been working on the bike a lot this year.
20:24So this was another week of that.
20:26So they're still trying to figure it out.
20:28And hopefully they continue to do it.
20:29And that was a nice scrub right there.
20:31But that scrub right there was more of a frustration scrub.
20:34I can tell you that.
20:34Or trying to go to speed.
20:36Because, like, sometimes you get so mad at what's going on
20:39you just scrub that thing.
20:40But look good on TV, bro.
20:43You're the only one qualified to give us judgment on scrubs
20:46and the interpretation of the scrubs.
20:48Hey, we mentioned SMX playing.
21:06They're near the podium at those SMX rounds.
21:08Wow, Jorge Prado.
21:10They're catching him in a hurry.
21:11And now Plessinger is out.
21:12I've got to imagine that's the illness right there.
21:15Yeah, that's the illness.
21:16And we saw that happen early in the race.
21:18It said the way his body was, his position was.
21:20But you get my brother a shout out.
21:22He has the best line entering that whoop section than anyone.
21:25And that's why he was able to catch on Jorge Prado.
21:28What he's doing is just going outside, banking off that corner
21:31and is shooting across that hard pack.
21:34So Malcolm's really got those rollers figured out.
21:38And that has drawn him up to Prado, who is in seventh.
21:41As for Plessinger, let's go back to Katie.
21:43Yeah, you guys can tell he's really hurting.
21:45And when he actually lined up before this moto,
21:47I had asked him how he was feeling.
21:49He's like, I'm here.
21:50I'm on the bike.
21:50We'll see how this goes.
21:51So they knew that he was on an uphill battle.
21:54Talking to Ann Harris, the team manager over there,
21:57he said, you've got to imagine this.
21:58He's one of the only guys in the top of the class
22:01with Justin Cooper that have really been out
22:03for almost every single race,
22:06even through supercross here and outdoors.
22:08He's been putting work week after week body
22:10through a whole lot of different things.
22:12and that stew has to take a toll
22:15on the big picture of the body.
22:16There's not many of them who have successfully been out
22:19almost every single one of these race weekends
22:20in the last year or two.
22:22No, absolutely not.
22:24I mean, we hear every weekend,
22:26you know, God's getting sick
22:27and Aaron has been out here.
22:29And the hard part is there's no time to recover.
22:32So it's like you're being sick,
22:33but you're working just as hard.
22:34The body's going to eventually break down.
22:36So I know Aaron,
22:38I know if he could,
22:39he would be out there.
22:40He's really struggling right now.
22:42So he's got to do the right thing
22:43and try to get healthy.
22:46And he's headed back to the pits
22:48and Malcolm Stewart is headed around Jorge Prado.
22:51Malcolm getting the Jorge Prado experience.
22:54He is tough to pass.
22:56I'll just put it that way.
22:57Malcolm able to finally clear him.
22:59Yeah, well, he was going to clear him either way.
23:02You can have it.
23:05It looked like me and Trey Canard back in 2013.
23:08Sometimes you just got to realize,
23:09look, man, if you want it that bad,
23:11it's all you and my brother did.
23:13So looking good.
23:15But you can see how much time he was able to make up on Jorge
23:17the internet, that whoop section.
23:19And as quickly as he's there, he's gone.
23:23Yeah, he's driving well.
23:24Yeah, yeah, and all that.
23:26So he's figuring out these lines.
23:27So really good.
23:29JT?
23:30Well, Malcolm does look good,
23:31but you can just see how frustrated Jorge Prado is.
23:34As soon as Malcolm went by, he completely let up.
23:37You can just see his body language.
23:39I would not be shocked if Justin Barsha
23:40passes him in the next corner or two.
23:42It has completely come apart here for Prado.
23:46Yeah, there's Barsha challenging him.
23:47It's kind of an alarming trend.
23:49Remember Prado led quite a bit of the previous moto
23:51in his championship last week at Redwood.
23:54But then he faded back.
23:56And kind of the same thing happening now
23:58as Barsha revs it to let him know he's there.
24:01This will be a fun little tangle.
24:03Let's see what happens here.
24:04But yeah, just a little bit.
24:06Jorge's dealing the same thing as Eli.
24:10What?
24:11I told you it would be fun to watch.
24:13He relapsed.
24:14He's going out.
24:15But no, that's Barsha making a Barsha pass.
24:18Clean pass.
24:19He wanted to just make sure Jorge
24:20wasn't going to be able to cut back underneath.
24:22And that's all that was.
24:23One of the tougher riders to pass
24:27versus one of the more aggressive passers.
24:29And that's what you get.
24:30Prado and Barsha.
24:34Oh, it's Cornelius Pondel.
24:35Going to check in with him.
24:36He is getting a little bit of help from Honda.
24:39Rider out of Norway visiting.
24:40And also the Swiss native Valentin Guillo.
24:44Great to see him.
24:45He's really been fun to have in America
24:47full time for the first time this summer.
24:49Hangs around the pits pretty late after the race.
24:51It's just taking it all in.
24:53So Tondo and Guillo certainly probably know each other
24:57from a lot of racing over in Europe
24:59and having fun here in America this summer.
25:01Yeah, and you know that just like Jorge and Tony Corolli
25:05when he's here, there's those inner battles,
25:07kind of like a teammate battle.
25:09You just don't want to get beat by the guy.
25:10And these guys, they want to beat each other.
25:12So really cool to watch.
25:13And there's always something to race for.
25:15That's what I love about this new playoff system.
25:17There's always points to race
25:18because they know how important that is.
25:20Once you get down to Vegas,
25:21if you can make it there and get those points,
25:23how big a life-changing it could be.
25:26So always incentives.
25:27Yeah, Guillo has said if he qualifies for SMX,
25:30he will race it.
25:31And you can pile up a lot of points doing what he's doing.
25:34He's always around that 10 to 15 spot every moto.
25:37And starting to move up the ranks.
25:41A little bit of help.
25:42Rock River, Yavaha team carrying his bike around.
25:45And look at how many riders
25:46and how many countries are represented in the field today.
25:49That's wild.
25:51Yeah, look how much time he was able to gain
25:53as well once he made that path.
25:57So good stuff for these guys.
25:59And, you know, looking at the lead right now,
26:01is looking at Jet Lawrence kind of cheating,
26:03looking at the times.
26:04And there was a point in this race
26:06where he was starting to close in on Hunter.
26:08And just what we talked about,
26:09Joe Shimoda and Hayden Deegan,
26:11Hunter picked up that pace.
26:13And Jet eventually just said,
26:14you know what, I'm just going to take second.
26:16And it was all within a couple laps.
26:18Because if Hunter would have not,
26:19Jet would have been in this race.
26:21So how quickly things can change on here
26:24and how quickly, like, these lap times, they matter.
26:26Hunter Lawrence has been running really good.
26:28And it made it Jet Lawrence decide to take second.
26:31JT.
26:31Yeah, I'm just going to go ahead and say
26:33this is the best I've ever seen Hunter Lawrence ride.
26:36He withstood the charge that Jet Lawrence is putting in,
26:39as Jane mentioned.
26:40He got the lead down to six seconds.
26:42And Hunter picked the pace back up,
26:44got back into the 158s.
26:46And think about this.
26:47He's put almost 19 seconds in the section.
26:50He's put over 40 seconds in the toe map.
26:54He's obviously not having a good moto.
26:55But regardless of what he's done to Jet,
26:57he has absolutely decimated the rest of this field.
27:00Thanks, JT.
27:01I'm going to go back to the story I was going to tell earlier.
27:03Katie mentioned that calm demeanor that he has.
27:06So he's still waiting to get that first-ever overall win on a 450.
27:10Last week, Jet goes down early.
27:12You think that opens the door.
27:14Hunter was asked in the press conference,
27:15what was your reaction when he saw Jet in the ground?
27:17And he's like, nothing.
27:19I just thought, oh, Jet's down.
27:21He didn't at least elude to being overly excited.
27:24This is my chance.
27:26He has eradicated all that.
27:28It is just full focus on myself and my riding and my motorcycle
27:32and not the circumstances all the time.
27:35At least that's what he portrays outwardly.
27:37And that's the way he is, being a little bit older.
27:40He's the older brother, having these injuries.
27:43It gives you a different perspective in life.
27:44But, you know, I think a little bit what he had, that moto,
27:47the same thing I used to have with Ricky.
27:49And I see him go down in the opening, especially the opening laps.
27:52You're like, oh, all right, well, I'm not going to get excited
27:55because this dude is eventually going to come back.
27:56He knows how good Jet is.
27:58It's too early in the race to get excited.
28:00And if you go back a couple weeks before that,
28:02I mean, he was literally a lightning strike away
28:04from getting his first overall victory.
28:06So, you know, when those things open up, opportunities,
28:10these guys know if they can hold on and how early the race is.
28:14And Hunter knows how good his brother is
28:16because he rounds with him every day.
28:18And remember, he'll have to tangle with him again
28:20because even though he looks to be handing a defeat to Jet,
28:24they'll be back for Moto2.
28:26And a 2-1 beats a 1-2.
28:27So he'll have to do it again
28:28to get that overall win so close so many times last year,
28:33second the last couple of weeks this year.
28:37Yeah, and with the track being a little bit hard pack
28:39and how slippery it is,
28:40we see how easy it is to make mistakes.
28:42Because Hunter was smart and got that gap and pulled on up,
28:46it's hard for Jet to make that time up
28:49because there's not a lot of traction out here.
28:51So this gap that he has is a lot bigger on this racetrack
28:54compared to maybe last weekend where the track was softer.
28:57You can really push and make time up.
28:59Here, Jet was going to hit the ground if he tried doing it.
29:03And that's just smart racing about Hunter.
29:05He knew how important those opening laps were.
29:06So he's riding really good,
29:08but he's also a smart racer and knows when to attack.
29:11And anytime you hold that 18 off and make him say no mas,
29:15he can hold on another three laps.
29:17He's just very impressive by the 8.96.
29:20Now in the 450 class,
29:22only one time has Hunter got the moto win with Jet second.
29:25That was at Thunder Valley last year.
29:27Jet is coming back from that big crash at Hangtown.
29:30Now, to be fair, though,
29:31they haven't raced each other much.
29:32450 moto crossing was Hunter's rookie year last year,
29:35and then Jet missed a lot of the races with injury.
29:39But, man, this guy just keeps getting better and better.
29:4430 seconds before the two laps to go.
29:46Signs should be three to go here.
29:48Back to Katie.
29:49Now, the pit boards over here for Hunter Lawrence
29:51are a whole lot of numbers.
29:52It's time.
29:53It's letting him know where he's sitting
29:55versus any kind of words encouragement.
29:57In talking to Lars Lindstrom yesterday about Hunter Lawrence,
29:59he said that he really does need to capitalize
30:02when moments like Jet going down happen.
30:05And he did that today, right?
30:06Lars continued to say one thing that's really unusually great
30:10about Hunter as a person
30:11is his emotional intelligence is so strong.
30:14So he has the ability to adapt both in his mind,
30:17on the bike, off the bike,
30:19and it's something that is being shown as a skill set
30:22that is different than a lot of other guys.
30:25Yeah, and like you said, that's his personality,
30:27and that's his riding as well.
30:29You know, he kind of lets things come to him,
30:31and when he's comfortable,
30:32he can beat anybody in the world, including his brother.
30:35But, you know, being older and really seeing where Jet,
30:39every day, seeing how good he is and all that,
30:42you learn.
30:43You know, no matter how old you are,
30:44you always learn something,
30:45and it's really cool to watch Hunter come out here
30:46and have the success that he has.
30:48And I can tell you what, man,
30:49if I was getting beat by my younger brother like that,
30:51there would be some family violence on here.
30:53So it's impressive for him not to just walk up to his brother
30:56and just sock him in the mouth.
30:58He can do that.
31:00He can do it with anything.
31:02It is actually impressive.
31:03When you think they're starting to square off,
31:05they're 1-2 in the series.
31:07They're battling each other for wins.
31:08But it has had zero effect on the relationship.
31:12In fact, I heard Jet was on the Justin Breakdown
31:15on the CNSR alone podcast this week,
31:17and he said, they said, you know,
31:19when you win so much,
31:19how do you keep your career going?
31:21And he's like, as long as Hunter is there,
31:23I'm going to have fun at the races.
31:24That's what makes it fun for him, having his brother there.
31:27They are not rivals that you think they would be,
31:32considering they're 1-2 a lot of weeks.
31:34Yeah, no, and I can't attest to it on this level,
31:37but I had the chance to ride with my brother,
31:40you know, doing the outdoors there, the pro motocross,
31:42and there was a feeling that it was a different one racing him.
31:47I was so happy for him when he got his podium.
31:50I wanted to be second.
31:51And if he got third, I wanted to beat him.
31:52But there is a different level to it
31:54and an excitement and a care for each other,
31:57you know, having your brother out there.
31:59And I can only imagine being at this level how cool it is.
32:03But, yeah, at the end of the day,
32:04I think that's where their dad, Darren,
32:06and their whole family, mom,
32:08and really preaching family first no matter what.
32:11And I've had a chance to spend time with both these boys out here.
32:14That's really how they are.
32:16And the only time that I've seen Jet really frustrated
32:18if something happens to Hunter,
32:19then he attacks the rest of the field out there.
32:22But these two love each other.
32:23And I'm sure the happiest person on this racetrack
32:26is going to be Jet Lawrence if his brother holds on and wins this race
32:29because he's happy for his brother anytime he has success.
32:33Yeah, their dad has said many times,
32:35look, boys, you're going to be not racers
32:37for a much longer period of life than you're going to be racers.
32:39Maybe the professional fear is a dozen years or so.
32:42Don't burn the relationship, you know, in that heat.
32:48And then have trouble for the rest of your life.
32:50So they're keeping a family first, like you said.
32:52If you go over to the Honda truck,
32:53they come to the race together, they leave the race together,
32:56they're eating lunch together.
32:57Last week, heck, they even switched bikes on Prede
33:00to try some different settings,
33:02which is another huge advantage to have teammates that get along
33:06that well.
33:07There's usually a little something between teammates,
33:09but there is no heat like that between these two Honda riders.
33:14Yeah, well, Darren's telling them to keep family first.
33:17Well, they've taken it to a whole different level
33:19because they are family first.
33:21Both of them are runner one and two.
33:22Yeah, yeah, first and second.
33:23Yeah, first and second.
33:24So family is truly first out here for these two boys.
33:28Okay, so Jet not able to replicate last week's run.
33:30I got to ask a question.
33:33He got the second.
33:33We saw that eight to nine second gap.
33:35He looked over.
33:36Is there part of him that said,
33:37I gave it a run, we'll wait for Moto2?
33:41Yeah, I mean, I think he obviously made that decision,
33:44and you see Chase Sexton 10 seconds behind him.
33:48I think the decision was made because of how good Hunter was riding.
33:51You know, I don't know if it was a decision rather than,
33:54I can't catch him.
33:55I'm not going to get it.
33:55Yeah, I'm not going to be able to get him.
33:56So I'm 10 seconds ahead of Chase.
33:58I can get this overall victory, which is ultimately what I want.
34:02I'm happy to have my brother win, but he also knows first is good as,
34:06second is just as good as the first in these first motos, especially outdoors.
34:09So he'll let him have one.
34:12We'll see about that relationship in this next moto.
34:14Last lap for Hunter Lawrence, looking for his first moto win of 20-25.
34:22Yeah, that was a respectful way of describing it.
34:24Is Jet hustling all the way down to the checker flag?
34:26No.
34:27But it was partially because Hunter was riding so well.
34:29He didn't give it to him.
34:31He couldn't get him.
34:32And we saw that graphic where that gap got down to six seconds,
34:36and that's where JT was talking about.
34:38Like, I saw Jet making that run, so he wanted to get there,
34:41but Hunter picked that pace up.
34:43And again, Jet knew, I'm probably going to hit the ground,
34:48given the way how difficult this racetrack is.
34:50It only gives you so much.
34:52He's already on the line.
34:53He decided to take second.
34:54Hey, remember, beginning of the show,
35:00we mentioned the $2,000 that Rocky Mountain 18 DMC
35:03got to give to Lorenzo LaCurcio.
35:04We'll update him.
35:05He just actually passed Jorge Prado, who is now back to 12th.
35:09This is Lorenzo LaCurcio on that Wildcat Gas Gas.
35:13So he is up to 11th.
35:15Good run for him.
35:15Guillaume is 10th.
35:18Shot 9th.
35:18Barsha 8th.
35:20Malcolm Stewart 7th.
35:21White flag now for LaCurcio.
35:26Yeah, a good route by Malcolm.
35:28Like he said, figuring some stuff out.
35:29Best moto of the year, 7th.
35:31And closing in on Eli.
35:33He's going to run out of time,
35:34but nobody's better than this guy, this moto.
35:37And a couple fans pointed out to me last week,
35:39we do have the Marquez brothers running 1-2 in MotoGP,
35:44so we do have some brothers doing this in other forms,
35:46but I don't know.
35:48This might be the highest level of all.
35:49Another one, two.
35:51First moto at Millville goes to Hunter Lawrence.
35:57Yeah, absolutely.
35:58What they're doing is just as impressive.
36:02And look for the rematch of Moto2,
36:05the overall win streak on the line for Jet to take second.
36:09That is the fourth career 450 moto win for Hunter.
36:14And Chase Sexton looking to bring it across
36:16on the Red Bull KTM in third.
36:18See, with my personality, I will go up to 100, but like, dude, good job.
36:22But you know you only won because I crashed, right?
36:24Just wanted to point that out.
