00:00let's take a look at what we were talking about last week at this time roll the tape all right
00:06and there's going to be another little feature in here that we're going to have to keep our eyes on
00:10it may quell the warmth that's going to be pervasive across the midwest the ohio valley
00:15and much of the south but that also could mean some onshore flow some more recurrent risks at
00:20the beaches and a threat for some rain but outside of that warmth is going to dominate
00:25most of the country next week all right uh two things show number one the warmth and the expanding
00:31drought but i know you feel pretty strongly that that low pressure system could have been characterized
00:37as a subtropical storm oh absolutely i mean it had all the characteristics it was an area of low
00:43pressure closed circulation over warm water and it had sustained winds of 34 knots or higher so that
00:49to me says that should have been classified as a subtropical storm but be that as it may
00:53it really pounded portions of north carolina and southeast virginia that's gone right now and now
00:58we've got a lot of warmth in the east and there's no tropical threats that's one of our things to know
01:02about next week no tropical threats for the u.s most of the country again going to be above the
01:08historical averages for the first week of autumn however some beneficial wet weather for the mid-south
01:15and the ohio valley take a look at the percentage of historical average rainfall over the last 30 days
01:20notice these areas here from kansas city st louis through the ohio valley into the northeast
01:26most places less than 40 places like i was looking at canton akron five percent of normal since
01:32the first of august in contrast we've had a lot of wet weather in the plain states if you look at the
01:37most recent u.s drought monitor again you'll just notice how bad it is in these areas again from the
01:43ozarks missouri illinois all the way up into the northeast but there is some change in the way
01:48compare this what you see here with what we had what three months ago at the beginning of june
01:54notice how most of the eastern half of the country had little drought except for these areas here in
01:58southwest michigan and the northern portions of illinois but now look at how widespread it is
02:03in the eastern half of the country save for florida where we've seen great improvements over the past few
02:07weeks all right joe as we get in the next week though a little flip in the weather pattern oh indeed i
02:15mean the main jet stream is still going to go like this bernie so you're going to get one system that
02:18will come through the northeast probably tuesday to the night into wednesday but that's it this
02:22upper level low in here is the big picture most of the country will still be warm but underneath
02:27this upper level low you're going to be seeing a lot of moisture coming up from the gulf of america
02:31dew points will get into the 60s and low 70s and you'll see repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorm
02:36activity this is good news you're going to see at least a little return of diminishing of the
02:43drought areas in these places next week
