00:00Well, it's hard to believe that we're wrapping up the month of February and about ready to move into the
00:04month of March and start the spring season. What are three things to know about this transition period out of
00:09February into March? Well, the good thing is for California, after all the rain and mountain snow you've seen in
00:14the last couple of weeks, you're going to be drying out during this period. It's going to be generally warm
00:18and dry from Texas to Florida, but there's a lot of cold air that's on the playing field that's going
00:22to be lurking in Canada, and that's going to play a role into our forecast going forward as we make
00:28the transition into the month of February.
00:30All right, here's the big picture. The jet stream will retreat a little bit. That trough that's been off the
00:34west coast that's been allowing system after system to come in and bring heavy rain and mountain snows to the
00:39west. That's finally going to lift, and most of the action will be confined to the northwest and maybe into
00:44parts of northern California, but even there it should dry up, but there's still plenty of cold air here, especially
00:49in the northwest part of Canada. So any front that comes through is going to drag some of that cold
00:54air south and east. The question is how far south and east will it get? I don't think it can
00:58make it down to Texas and down to Florida.
01:00It looks like generally warm and dry weather as we go into the first days of March. However, I think
01:05there's going to be a system that's going to come out of the Rockies probably around the 1st of March
01:09and work its way east, northeastward. With this cold air in play, somebody's going to have to deal with some
01:15snow and wittery precipitation. Does it make it as far south as Sandois? Probably not. It's not out of the
01:20question. Chicago may be a bit more in place, certainly from Minneapolis eastward toward Boston. You're going to have to
01:25worry about this, and it may be not the last one of its kind.
01:28areas to the south, you should be nice and safe, although you're going to have a chilly period behind the
01:32storm system at the end of this weekend and early next week. But again, generally warm and dry weather from
01:37Texas to Florida. I hate to say it, but the groundhog, I think, got it right. There's still a few
01:42more weeks, a winter left to go before we reach spring.
