00:00I want to start with the best team in baseball who clinched a postseason berth in the Milwaukee Brewers.
00:05Milwaukee is in.
00:07As we talk right now on Monday of this week, they are 91-59.
00:12In terms of the wildcard standings, it doesn't even matter.
00:17They're fine.
00:18They're going to get a first-round buy.
00:20But in terms of the division, they're 5.5 up on the Chicago Cubs.
00:24It seems like a foregone conclusion that the Milwaukee Brewers are winning the National League Central.
00:29And they are the team of destiny.
00:32Before we get into the nitty-gritty on-field stuff and how they have gotten to this point,
00:36I do want to highlight Pat Murphy reading the note that Bob Euchre left in the clubhouse with champagne in his hand.
00:44Because before I even listened to the note that Euchre left for them, I got goosebumps.
00:50Just knowing that he said, okay, you know what?
00:53Before I pass, I'm going to sit down and pen a letter to the team that is supposed to be open.
00:58And the next time that they clinch a postseason berth.
01:01He left that for Mark Adonacio, the owner of the Milwaukee Brewers.
01:05And it was hilarious.
01:07It was thoughtful.
01:08It was Bob Euchre.
01:10And Pat Murphy reading it to that clubhouse was just poetic.
01:13This team has something incredibly special going on.
01:17And I really feel like it's no coincidence that they're doing this for Euchre in a sense this year.
01:22Well, let's talk about the special magic that's on the field.
01:26The Brewers, on Saturday, their 11th walk-off win.
01:3211 in a season.
01:34And that win in particular was so strong and it made me think,
01:38all right, I'm running out of excuses to say why the Brewers won't win the World Series.
01:44I'm going to talk about an American League betting future later,
01:47but the Brewers have just been so incredible all season long.
01:50And I thought Saturday was a perfect example.
01:53You find out that you clinch.
01:55How often do we see teams, once they clinch a playoff berth, come out flat?
02:01We talked about it in the roundup.
02:03Happens all the time.
02:04It's very natural, right?
02:05A team celebrates.
02:06They come out.
02:07The games don't really matter as much.
02:09And they lay down and they lose that game.
02:11And for most of it, it looked like that.
02:13The Cardinals got out to a 6-1 lead.
02:17What happens to most teams at a 6-1 lead after clinching?
02:21You're done.
02:23But the Brewers fight, fight, fight, tied it, then tied it again in the 9th
02:30once the Cardinals got another run, a three-run comeback in the bottom of the 9th.
02:34Then the Cardinals scored again in extra innings.
02:37So many opportunities to lay down.
02:39And the Brewers didn't.
02:40And they won 9-8, winning that series against a division rival.
02:44They pitch.
02:46They have this incredible trio of Freddy Peralta, who's been one of the best pitchers in baseball,
02:50period.
02:51Brandon Woodruff, since he came back from injury, has been pitching like an ace.
02:55And Quinn Priester, ever since he went to Milwaukee, is one of the great ground ball artists.
03:00They're going to get back Trevor McGill in the bullpen, one of the best closers in baseball, an all-star.
03:06But even with injuries, they've been totally fine.
03:09Jackson Chorio hasn't been healthy for a lot of the first half.
03:12What has he done in the second half?
03:14A 174 WRC+.
03:16Meaning he's 74% better than a league average hitter.
03:19Find me the hole.
03:21Arm and I were talking again on Monday's episode.
03:23The hole is Joey Ortiz's bat.
03:25Because Caleb Durbin has developed a third base.
03:28Joey Ortiz already plays good defense, but that's the one hole.
03:32Your nine-hitter's bat isn't great.
03:34They're so good top to bottom, and they have a special magic about them.
03:38It's an incredible team.
