00:00I want to spend a couple of minutes on Cooper Pratt, the Milwaukee Brewer prospect, who I believe is your
00:04number seven prospect in the Brewer system, apparently agreed to an eight-year, $50 million deal with a pair of
00:12club options.
00:13Cooper Pratt, an eight-year extension, this guy has played, what, three games in AAA, spent all of last year
00:20in AA Biloxi, had a 107 WRC plus.
00:24That's a 691 OPS in AA. I understand that the Southern League is a very hard league to hit in,
00:31but I think you have to OPS north of 700 to get $50 million before you debut. Is that fair?
00:38This one put my brain in a blender. I don't understand this one.
00:41It would put my brain in a blender, too, if I wasn't at camp and haven't been having these conversations
00:48with the Brewers for a couple of years now.
00:50Anyone you talk to in the Brewers organization, you can't escape the conversation without some Cooper Pratt love.
00:57This guy is one of their favorites and has been for a long time.
01:01It's not only the way he goes about his business and the projection, it's the defensive ability, the base running.
01:06But I'm with you. It's surprising because this guy is shown below average power at this point, and he's aggressive
01:13at the plate.
01:13But I think he's also been assigned very aggressively and challenged to multiple quick pushes, and as you mentioned, the
01:20Southern League.
01:21And the other aspect is I think the Brewers are betting on their development to unlock another gear from this
01:25kid.
01:26But I think they're looking at it and saying the floor of an above average to potentially plus defensive shortstop
01:30who can get you 30 bags,
01:32who's going to put that on ball at an above average clip.
01:34But it has a really good chance of at least being a two to three war guy for them.
01:39And if he's that, at that price tag, they're going to be picking up those options on the back end.
01:45Or if not, they'll be able to trade him if they wanted to.
01:47So I think they look at it and say, we feel really good about what his floor is,
01:51and we feel really good about what we can make his ceiling.
01:54And given what the Brewers have continued to show us that they can do, I'm not betting against them on
01:59this one.
01:59And this is a guy that they have been in love with since they drafted him.
02:03And even with the 691 OPS, every time you check in, it seems like they love him more.
02:09We've got about a minute left in this segment.
02:11If this doesn't work, why didn't it work for Milwaukee and Cooper Pratt?
02:16I think the power just stagnates there, right?
02:19It was like at 90th percentile exit velocity of like 100.5 miles per hour, which is well below average.
02:24So he's not slugging at all.
02:25And maybe the defense grades out as, you know, closer to average than plus.
02:28Then at that point, it's more one to two war.
02:31And you're probably, you know, kicking yourself a little bit.
02:34I just think that's unlikely given the projection he has and, you know,
02:37that what he's already been able to show that he can do and the organization that he's in.
02:41The craziest part and the leap of faith that it is, is that they're going to have to burn an
02:46option.
02:46And they're going to be, you know, fast tracking him on a big league deal right now in AAA for
02:50a year.
